Went here for a friend's birthday party.  It's not the type of place I normally go to but for my friends.

This place serves your typical Vietnamese bar food (Quan Nhau - restaurant to drink).  The staff is consists of mostly females.  Some are friendly and some are not.

We ordered several dishes.  But the only ones I remembered are: canh ga chien nuoc mam (fried chicken wings in (sweet and sour) fish sauce), com chien ca man (fried rice with salty fish).

It's a fairly popular place to go to because of the live music and the patrons can go up and sing karaoke style.

I don't go here on my own but my friends enjoy coming here.  Each time the experience is a little different, but the liveliness of the entertainers keep us coming back.

This Nhau spot is definitely my favorite. I love the food, music is cool (as long as they're not blasting Viet stuff) and the service is great also. Who says you can't get great service at a Vietnamese establishment? Lol :) The girls here are always attentive & friendly. Not sure if Phoebe's still working at Quan Gio but she's great fun and an awesome hostess!

My favorite dishes to order are: lotus salad w/pork & shrimp, mango salad, green mango w/sweet fish sauce, snails in coconut milk & basil, clams w/basil and shaken beef. The garlic noodles that come with Shaken Beef are pretty good as well, but order egg noodles instead of macaroni. Next time, I'll have to try the baked blood clams - they look super bomb from the other photos! Dishes here, on average are about $14/plate. They also serve beer, sake, soju and wine.

It's easy to get sucked in for hours, just drinking & snacking. I do each time!

Food and service was good.  Minus a star for karoke when they were playing some good music when i first arrived and also for allowing people to smoke inside. At least the food and service made up for some of it.  Nice selection of food and drinks.  They have blue moon. Yay!  Most of the other viet lounges only have bud, bud light, heiniken, and corona..... At least they have something that I like to drink on the menu.  They also have soju which I ordered straight with out them mixing it with juice, etc.   Almost tried the yogurt soju but it looked like they were kinda heavy on the yogurt so I decided to pass on it.  Not a fan of sugary drinks. Now onto the food.  We ordered grilled goat (little salty), coconut snails (yum), fried pork intestines (ok), and bloody clams (yum).  It was interesting to see that there were some tables with females there and there was actually one full table of women next to us.  Don't see that often at places like this.

This place is fun, loud, and filled with a new cultural experience for me. The public karaoke is not something I am used to. All the songs that were sang that night was Vietnamese tune which I enjoyed. Some were good and some were bearable but everyone had good time singing and listening. Waitresses were attentive and price for drinks were more than reasonable. I tried few dishes and everything was good. I thought the fish sauce wings were interesting and go well with the drinks. I shall come back for more.

Food was delicious but hostess was rude! He/she didn't let me sing! I think it's a gay/lesbian VN bar. Would only order food and get the heck out!

Besides the vietnamese karaoke that got annoying at times, this place is a hit. They had a really exotic menu that I'm gonna want to try next time I'm here. The beautiful ladies that worked there were really friendly as well. Cheap beer, exotic eats, makes this a fun hang out.

Just like any other quan nhau here in Little Saigon area, loud music popping, dim lights, pretty servers, lots amount of Heineken bottles everywhere.

Food is typical of a quan nhau place, you can't go wrong with these kind of light and drinking foods.  Overall a nice hang out place if you want to meet up with your friends and grab a few drinks and grab something to eat.

Nice and clean place to hang out, watch sports, have couple drinks with friends.  It has live music and good food. Beer price is also very good. $2.50/btl.

    Overall:
This may look like one of those shady looking Asian night bars with the security standing outside during the late hours, but don't let the exterior fool you. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you know someone or know Vietnamese because it can be intimidating when you first walk in and everyone is staring at you. I have brought a couple of my Caucasian friends so the place doesn't discriminate, but I don't think this is a place that they would go by themselves. I love how you can relax with sometimes good hiphop/techno music (other nights, they may have people come up and sing Vietnamese karaoke), but this is a nice lounge to hang out with some friends and eat some rare and odd food items.

    Food:
Food can be a bit pricey ranging in the $15 dollar range, but that is how bar food usually are. I LOVE the food here compared to most Vietnamese lounges I go to...
+ Duck fetus egg (Balut/Hot vit lon) - best I had at most places and usually fresh, which means they aren't really old or have aged dramatically
+ Coconut snails (Oc len xao dua) - love this!
+ Larger size snails with fish sauce dip - love this!
    + Clams - delicious!
+ Hot Pot - delicious, but expensive! I usually get the Lau Thai (Hot Pot Thai Flavor)
+ Cube steak (Bo luc lac), and even more!

    Drinks:
Cheap beer, which are $2-4 I believe and you can order a bucket, which comes with 10 beer of your choice i.e Corona, Heineken etc... Usually if you don't finish the beer and as long as you don't open it, they can calculate the total of what you drank and only charge you for that, but I'm not sure about this place.

    Service:
The service here is ok. You never really get spectacular service from Vietnamese places, but they do come to your table when you first arrive to take your order. After they bring out your food, they usually come around every so often to ask if you want anything else (usually beer).

    Environment:
As you enter, you noticed the girls are usually dressed provocatively (short skirt, revealing top etc) sometimes. Once they lead you to an open table, they usually hand you a menu, take your order and comes around once in a while to get you a new beer/drink. Some of the waitresses English aren't the best, so that's why it may be harder if people who didn't speak Vietnamese came, but then again you can always point!  The ambiance here is dark, and like I said before, a fun place to hang out with your friends late at night.

They do allow smoking here just fyi.

Came here on a Sunday night and it was packed.  Beers here are pretty freaking cheap and my friends and I left with a good buzz for not much money.  I would not recommend getting the yogurt soju here though since it is mostly yogurt and not much soju.  The karaoke stage was pretty much non-stop so its not very easy to hold a conversation over the loud music but nothing a little shouting can't solve.

We didn't get any food but the table next to us seemed to really enjoy it

If you want to eat disgusting food while inhaling cigarette smoke and listening to old drunk vietnamese fobs "sing" then this place is for you.

Pretty chill place...if you're drunk. Otherwise, if you're like me and you don't like cai luong, keep drinking. It's fobbie here but, my friends are good friends with the owner so we always drink here. They encourage the ladies to sing, it's a karaoke type of quan nhau. The bo luc lac is good however, can't say the same for the calamari...it's not your typical calamari. It's huge and greasy. Bunch of smokers in this quan nhau.
    I like it : )

Went here with some friends who really recommended this place, very trendy looking place with cool neon lights around the walls. I'm not exactly sure what was ordered as my friend chose her favorites, maybe you can tell by the photos. There were a plate chicken wings that were really good, some roasted tiny bird (maybe a sparrow?) which was very tasty but lacked meat, Mussels, Goat curry (tasty but very chewy) and also something in a conche shell. Then we had this big pan cooking infront of us which had a broth and various seafood around it like shrimp, mussels, codfish served with rice noodles. I'm a true foodie so all this interesting stuff was cool but I think alot of it is an acquired taste. Service is also very attentative.

Now the reason it doesnt get 5 stars despite the food being very good:
    1. They open more bottles of beer for you before you finish your last, I understand why but its not good if the person only wanted 1 to begin with.
    2. The waitresses clean up around you whilst you are eating, maybe I'm just not used to it but its kinda odd eating whilst they reach over and compile almost empty plates.
    3. Once it hit about 9pm the music turned up LOUD, could no longer converse.
    4. Little pricey - we paid $150 for 5 people.

    Venting over :)

This place is sooooooo good. Every time I head to SoCal I end up over indulging because we just don't get the same quality Vietnamese food in Portland. It's cheap and makes my belly happy!

We came here pretty late, I'm guessing like midnight or something and the kitchen was closing down. Thank goodness we made it in time. We had tom tai chanh (shrimp ceviche), bo luc lac (shaken beef), some baby clam thing, and dried squid. All great dishes. The calms could have been flavored a bit more though. To drink we got two bottles of soju (yogurt and lychee), both were good nothing special... We were really there for the food anyway :)

I came here on a Tuesday night with my friends and I really liked the vibe of this place with all the lights and the dimness. The place is pretty roomy with a lot of tables. If you are looking to get full, this isn't really the place for you. It's a "quan nhau" so it's great if you want to just snack around while drinking a few beers. There is entertainment provided by a lady who sings on the stage. You're also welcome to go on stage and sing as well!!! The girls here are pretty chill and they'll open your beers for you and all that jazz.

Although there are "No Smoking" signs, you are allowed to smoke in here. All in all, it's a chill place to come with your friends and kick back. The food is good, but definitely more expensive than in San Diego.

If you're looking for a classic Vietnamese bar to go to that'll remind you of the ones in the Bay Area, this is the closest one you'll get to it.

For the time that I was there, I enjoyed myself.  It reminded me of home.  I actually liked it better than the Vietnamese bars back in the Bay Area somewhat.  The environment of the place was very close-knit and more friendly than most places.  The ambiance was nice with all the colorful rainbow and strobe lights.  The waitresses are always walking around and taking care of you regardless of whether you're an old asian dude. The beer is cheap ~$2.50/beer I believe.  The fries weren't too bad either, but I'm not sure how much those were.

The time that I was there, which was a Thursday night, the girls weren't half naked or anything and they didn't have dancers like they would at the Vietnamese bars in San Jose, but it was still pretty great.  But who knows, maybe they do on Friday - Sunday, but I kind of doubt it.

They've got a lady MC trying to host the karaoke, which I like that it's pretty organized.  Of course, the vietnamese music gets pretty annoying after a while especially if you can't understand, but you can sing any song karaoke style through YouTube anyhow. The place is packed on weekends of course though, so if you go, make sure to go and get a table early.

Very cheap beers less than 3 bucks for a bottle. The food was always delicious all and every dishes I ordered. Good spot to hang out n drink some beer. Close early at 12 but it's CA laws I think. The music can be super loud in here, don't sit near the speakers! I hope they have hard liquor though. I;d come here every times I go to OC.

Wow, cool place to hang out after dark with friends! Cheap beer and good food, very friendly waitresses, if you know what I mean. Def a unique experience! Not for the faint of heart.

**You have to come here and see for yourself - I will warn this place is not for everyone **

Good place to hang out with friends and drink beer or soju. The soju is so sweet and strong. You can easily get drunk just drinking mango/peach soju. The food is good too. I really like the shaken beef and the grilled snails with butter and garlic. They are to die for.
Waitresses are pretty and friendly ( most of them). They do allow indoor smoking so you cant stand it, this is not a place to do. They also have karaoke so you are not afraid to sing, come and sing your heart away. If you can't sing and really hate life, come and sing and torture other people..lol

Cute waitresses. Great food, but a bit pricey. Come here on Thursdays and there's a transexual performer on stage. Not my thing, but it's definitely different experience.

This is my sister's "kick-it" spot when she wants to nhau.

I was just here on Friday and there were people as old as my dad and it was so damn boring.  The old folk music was a buzz-kill.

My first time meeting the he/she MC about 3 weeks ago was the best night I had at Gio !  She is not ashamed of herself, which I love and she's so open and comfortable to the crowd !  She only works on certain days of the week so I always hope shes working every time I come here.

This place is a great place to hang out with friends and share a few plates of food and drinks.  Nice chill out place which is casual.  Karaoke and nice music to set the tone of the place.

This place is always crowded with a lot of people and they seemed not to worry about the wait time.  Waitresses are nice and always so busy but seem to get what is needed done.  Waitress also are social and willing to take a few shots of Soju with you if you invite them.

Food here is good.  Had hot pot and a few of their fried foods.  Great to share within a big group.  If you are not use to the vietnamese cuisine this isn't the place for you, unless you are willing to try new things.

Hungry while waiting for the 2 1/2 wait for Boiling Crab, we came here to grab an appetizer. The doors were opened and tempted us to come in with their dark atmosphere, flashing multi-colored lights, and their floating water bubble statue in front.

The first thing I noticed when I actually went inside was that for a bar and grill, there was no bar and the place was pretty much filled with guys.

One of the waitresses came to our table and my friend ordered a beer, but they were out and so she chose another beer. Me and my other friend just got water. Along with that, we were deciding whether we should order the fried tofu or the egg rolls. We asked her how many egg rolls came in a plate and the waitress said she didn't know - there was too many to count. WTF? We decided on the egg rolls anyways.

The waitress came back and asked up if we ordered yet and then realized that she forgot our drinks. She came back with the beer and two bottles of costco water. I knew it wasn't free and I asked her how much the water was. She said she didn't know and went  to go check. Another waitress came and we asked her how much the water was and she said $2! $2 for a bottle of costco water?! We could have bought a whole case of water with the amount we would have spent on two bottles. Not to mention, I probably could have found some water in the car... so we took the water back.

Eventually, our food came and I have to admit, I don't know if I was hungry or what, but it looked and tasted pretty good. (BTW, there was 8 egg rolls...)

While we were eating, some lady who I think either worked there or was associated with the restaurant somehow.just started literally yelling something in viet really loudly in the middle of the restaurant. The waitress comes and tells us to not worry, she's just a crazy lady. uhhhkayyy...

We continue eating and soon the music goes down and the same lady steps up onto the little karaoke stage they have set up and starts singing really loudly and nicely put it, interestingly into the mike...

yeah... despite the good egg rolls, the beers are pretty cheap... if only i liked beer ($2.50 a bottle), flirty waitresses (which kinda explains all the guys), interesting karaoke to say the least and a pretty chill environment.... mixed feelings about this place, but I think we just came on a weird day...

Came by with friends this pass weekend, and the place is jammed packed.

It's a Karaoke restaurant/bar. It's a Vietnamese "quan nhau" place, where they served all types of beer drinking food, such as fried chicken wings, grilled clams, fried calamari, beef, dried squid (stinky), mango salad. They only have beer and wine, No hard liquor.

The DJ plays trance music and juggles with songs that the quests want to sing. Great services

VERY packed inside, the prices are great, only $2 a beer so it's awesome.  It's just way too crowded inside so comfort level is low.  The DJ also stops spinning around 8 pm and the karaoke starts, so the music kind of killed the fun atmosphere for me.  Food is pretty good, typical nhau food.....

Gio pronounced "yaw" meaning the wind/breeze. I'm feeling this place! What a change from the previous Huyen's restaurant!  I mean total face lift. I love the lighting, I love the music (well most of it) and I love the service!  Food was good.

The front of the restaurant is darkened off with a nice bouncer sitting in front chillaxin'. Cool guy.

-Canh Ga Nuoc Mam (Fish Sauce Chicken Wings) - I LOVE this dish in general. Can't go wrong, crispy fat wings.  I think the fish sauce could have been more stronger. Usually the wings I eat are fish sauce city, but this was a slight hint.  Not too overdone and slightly crisp on the outside.  Yum.

-Bo Luc Lac was a little too cooked for me (I like mine a little pink).  The meat to veggie ratio was definitely in favor of the carnivores but did end up wilting all the watercress

-Goi Xoai Kho Muc (Dried Squid with Mango Salad) - Julienned mango with strips of the dried squid. It was a little too much fish sauce topped off.  It was nice and spicy.

The dishes will run you around $10-$14.  The hot pots were $22 which is pretty good for the price. Beers are $2.50 a bottle and flavored soju $20. Beer and wine menu only of course.

Service is excellent. They have a lot of waitresses here. Most are pretty hot in their daisy dukes and tight snug logo wifebeaters.   They're all really friendly girls (warning: some of them aren't too skilled in English but can still get the job done.)  These chics work harder than most other girls working at competing restaurants.  Yeah, they'll push beers, but they're also cheery, and if you become a regular, will drink with you and will open your chopsticks for you and rub off any excess bamboo pieces.  They'll dance with each other in between songs and tease each other.  (What dudes don't like seeing that).

They have corner area with a singer and keyboard/tech guy.  You are welcome to come up and sing as well. Most people sing Vietnamese songs but I'm pretty sure they can find any song under the stars.  Sound system is pretty LOUD!

The owner was definitely a cool guy and greeted us.

Extra star for throwing in a great trance song - Armin Van Buuren feat Justine Suissa - Burned with Desire. Aww yah! But of course they played some fobby ass 1997 trance music too lol.  Oh well can't have it all.

It's a fun spot and the food is actually pretty good.  Good job Gio!
