Que Pasa gives you that almost-authentic Mexican food you almost long for.  It's pretty good and works great right before the movie.  Service is friendly, choices are plentiful and the food is good.  Not great, but good.

Sit in the bar or patio for a little more action in your life and get the tacos - fish is my flavor and i love em.

Que Pasa is decent Mexican food, especially for a chain restaurant.  There is nothing really authentic about it, but it's decent enough to come back.  I don't know what to say about the other entrees, but I had the three item combo (a taco, tamale, and enchilada) for $13.  I think it's a great deal, and the food is pretty good; the three items also come w/ rice and beans, which makes a decent sized meal.  How they serve the food here isn't quite authentically Mexican, so don't expect miracles, but what they have, they cook well.  When you come in, they give you free chips and salsa -- which is a delicious dish.  The only thing I don't like is that the waiter waited so long to come and take the order, and when he came by, he said, "Wow, you guys didn't take that long."  We were waiting for quite a while.  What???

I like Que Pasa.  No, it's not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it's quite decent.  However, it's location in the Marketplace means that the prices are a bit inflated.  Regardless, the food is good and the drinks are stiff.

I've never had a problem with service being bad.  The waiters I've had were always gracious and attentive.  Sometimes the food takes a bit longer to come out, but I've never cared. Why?

They have an awesome patio that overlooks the Marketplace fountain and Edward's Theater.  Sitting on the patio makes you feel like you're in the middle of a bustling crowd.  It doesn't even feel like Bakersfield on a nice, warm spring day, you know, before Bakersfield becomes a depraved hell-hole in the summer.

Que Pasa is the perfect place for a Sunday afternoon beer on the patio or a yummy dinner before you go see a movie.

I'd only go back for drinks if forced, but with the new Lengthwise that just opened up...the end is nigh me thinks.  I really don't care for the food much here, but it's palatable at least.  What gets me is the service.  It's not that they're rude or unfriendly, it's just that they're slow!  It may just be that management is making bad calls on staffing shifts, since when I see the servers, they all seem to be hustling.  Someone describing it as a Taco Bell with alcohol is pretty spot on.

Went here with the wife and in-laws for dinner and a movie afterwards, I ordered a Taco Salad and I would have to say they definitely exceeded my expectations. Probably the best taco salad I have ever ate and the pricing wasnt bad at all. Overall I would say this is a ok resteraunt the cleanliness and space is pretty good. This place is way better than el cabano or however you say it.

I have been here before and ordered great dishes, but on one of those nights where they have a DJ and dancing I came there for the first time and they charged like $5 per person to get in and the odor was terrible in there! Believe me when I say I can take gross smells, but this was like stinky feet mixed with Body Odor (B.O.) and dog shit! Not sure if it was a person next to me or just everyone dancing... I could't last for more than 45 minutes so we left. lol Great drinks too by the way...

Fajitas were great! The service was so-so, and the temperature was hot! The hostess believed that the AC went out but nobody suggested sit in the patio where there are fans. Horrible.. That's just too bad because for once the fajitas were great.

Pretty lousy place. Went here for taco tuesday and this is nothing compared to the great places we have down in Orange County and LA for Tuesday night. This place was crowded which gave us hope, but it turns out most of the people here don't seem to go for the food as much as the drinks. I applaud them for offering $3 beers like Modelo/XX/Corona. The service wasn't bad either.

But the star of Taco Tuesdays are...ahem. And they were lousy, in beef or chicken form. The hard tacos had stale shells and they were filled with what seemed like glorified air. I think if they offered soft tacos as well as crunchy, it would have improved things a bit.

Hmm, unless you come here to drink, don't bother with the food.

People watching is something that doesn't have a price right? Well you can get your fare share of people watching if you sit outside on the patio. Went with my friends after a movie and we had the most hilarious waiter Manuel. The food is alright which everyone else has commented on. Think this place kind of fits into a night's worth of events with friends not an event all alone. Cool lounge patio, and alright food.

Good food but not the best mexican food. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Depending on how busy it is sometimes the food takes awhile to come out. The ahi tuna tacos do not come with rice and beans even though it's under the taco section of the menu and it says cleary "all our tacos are served with pot beans and rice". I brought this to the attention of our server he said "yes your right" and told the manager on duty.  The manager said they were unable to serve the rice and beans.  Our server agreed the menu was wrong and that the menu would probably be changed because of me. On a recent visit it was not.  I enjoy Que Pasa and will return with hopes the menu reflects what it says.

We've been customers since the first week this restaurant opened......they have delicious food and a great happy hour BUT we often need reservations for parties of 6-10 persons and they always say they don't take reservations. All information on the websites about this restaurant indicate otherwise. Que Pasa please correct this.....it's misleading and we are now going to La Cabana for our Mexican dinners where they GLADLY accept reservations and value our business.

First time here. We had a very nice dinner. The service was great the food was very good. I had a Rib Eye steak that was just perfectly cooked. My wife had the Fajitas and if the portions were a little smaller I would had sampled hers. My steak was to good to stop eating. Great Salsa.

I have been coming here for years and this place has always had really good mexican food.  This place looks very nice since they have remodeled and updated the furniture.

To start their chips and salsa are amazing! The hotness of the salsa is perfect, and it is very fresh.  The tortillas are also made fresh!  I would give them a rating of 4 star.

The environment here is very welcoming with outdoor and indoor seating, along with a bar. I would rate the environment a 3.5 star for a mexican restaurant.

The last visit I ordered the steak fajitas and they tasted very good.  They were served with fresh tasty veggies.

I can not believe that this place has so many negative reviews because I think this place is wonderful.  They have never disappointed with the quality of food for a great price.

I came here with some friends for some friend time.  We had a party of nine, they quoted us about 25 minutes at 6:45.  1 hour later, they had our table ready, it wasn't really a big deal as we sat outside by the fountain and caught up with each other.  We sat there for about 10 minutes with our menus, then they finally came out and asked us if we wanted something to drink.

After the 10 minutes it took them to fill 9 cups of water they brought us the chips and salsa.  By the time our water glasses were empty the waiter came out nonchalantly and asked to take our order.  The food took forever, which is expected with a group of 9, but seriously, it took forever.  I ordered the sampler platter, it was horrible.  I ate a few of my "deep fried" soggy flautas and called it quits.

This place is terrible, service, food, everything.  Don't come here it's not worth your time.  What happened Que Pasa, you used to be decent.

Stay clear from the chile relleno. It was disgusting! Then I asked for a cheese enchilada to replace it and they brought me out a chicken enchilada, which was also disgusting, (canned chicken). Bad choice and we won't be returning.  We also didn't get refills on our waters and had to ask for a refill on chips after waiting about 10 minutes. The food took about 30-40 minutes to come out on a slow weekday night. I don't recommend.

Came to Bakersfield from Hawaii for a business trip and found this little gem of a restaurant. Negra Modello on tap is all I gotta say.

If you are looking for good mexican food, then this is not the place to go. The food is very sub-par and the beans when I went were almost inedible. The location is pretty good in the Marketplace, right next to a movie theater which is probably how they draw a lot of business. The interior and exterior seating isnt bad either but nothing spectacular

We went during lunch and their lunch special menu was actually reasonably priced and looked good on paper but it just didnt translate into the food. Service was also really slow as we sat there for probably 10 minutes with 4 empty water glasses on the table before we finally flagged a guy down and made him refill them. The only good thing about the place was the chips and salsa which are pretty hard to screw up.

So basically, in a town full of other quality food options, even in the Marketplace, skip Que Pasa.

The location of this restaurant is great because it's near a movie theater. The outdoor seating is also nice for people-watching.
The interior of this restaurant has recently been updated. It's clean and inviting. Service was fast, but we did have to wait quite a bit of time for our check.
The food is very reasonable and good. I had the guacamole which was made fresh when I ordered it. Yummy! We also ordered the sampler appetizer which was really good and big enough to be an appetizer for 4.
I've never had a bad meal here and would return.

It's actually a challenge for me to settle with a rating for Que Pasa. It's no where near the best Mexican food I've had, but I do enjoy the chips and salsa and enchiladas (~$6 lunch specials) fairly enough. So ok, meh quality means 3 stars right?

However what should've dropped another star was my first Taco Tuesday experience here last night. It's usually fairly crowded, especially on the patio but probably the cold night deterred people away even though they turned on their heat lamps.

$1 taco + $2 beers + $3 margaritas = quite the deal, except when the tacos make you feel sick to your stomach from the awful deep-frying. We couldn't even finish our 3 tacos we ordered per each of us (just 3!!) it was that terrible. And it wasn't even just the deep frying, but the meats weren't cooked that well either. You get a choice between the chicken and beef. I guess I'm feeling fairly generous with 3 stars because this was just the one experience and it's only on Tuesday evenings, but this once is enough to drive my bum over to Padre Hotel for far far better $1 tacos on Tuesdays from now on. For Que Pasa, I'll stick with the cheap beer and strong margaritas.

Okay, so we only had the appetizers at this joint. But all in all, it was pretty greasy. We were stuck back in a dark corner of the room so I didn't see much besides about five people headed back and forth to the restroom...also located next to our table. I am guessing there are many other places to try before heading back to Que Pasa.

come on, this place is like a taco bell with alcohol.  no where near the best mexican place in bakersfield. El torrito beats que pasa and it's a crappy chain. if you hit up any taco truck in town you'll never eat here again, unless you are seeing a movie and just can't resist some re-heated pseudo mexican food.

it pisses me off seeing "bakersfield" in the reviews for this place at all, like it represents mexican fare here or something.  garbage garbage garbage.

There isn't better Mexican food in Bakersfield in my book. I know that everyone is partial to their own style, flavor and taste but I feel like Que Pasa makes something everyone will like. I love their salsa, the chips always come out hot, the service is always fast and the food is always delicious and never too greasy.

I generally rate a Mexican restaurant based upon its salsa and Que Pasa has one of my favorite salsas in town. Generally, I get the seafood enchiladas or chicken/cheese enchilada--both very good. Easily, my preferred mexican restaurant in town.

Location! Location! Location! That would be the only thing Qua Pasa has going for themselves. I could pretty much copy and paste my review of Mauricio's except I can say the food here is terrible, not acceptable. And the name?! Seriously, Que Pasa translated into English is "What's up". You wouldn't eat at a restaurant named "What's up" for the pure fact that the name is stupid. But because it's in Spanish, these fools get away with it. The best way to tell it sucks, you never see Mexicans in there chowing down on food!

    1. Bad Food
    2. High Prices
    3. Poor Alcohol
    4. Slow Service

But it does have a great location in the Market Place; which is apparently enough to keep people coming back.

I've been here the first week they opened, and probably have visited less than once a year since then.  It still hasn't gotten better.

Don't be fooled, this is just a good meeting spot for happy hour.  Don't come here for lunch unless you like being thirsty the rest of the day.  Don't come for dinner unless you want to feel bloated all night.

Just come for a few drinks, mingle, then go see a movie or have a hamburger next door.

The food is good..the margaritas even better. The only problem I had was the service. Every time we go there, the service is awful. It may just be this location. We either get ignored, or the waiter is just downright rude.

I usually order the steak fajita which is the only entree that is actually decent. Anything else will be ghastly overcooked (when pork resembles overcooked marinated tofu, that's saying something), under or over seasoned, or smothered with cheese. Service is usually okay, but there was this one time where I had gone in for lunch and left the restaurant 75 minutes later because the server was appallingly slow.

The only reason why I ever come back is because of the location, and it is probably the reason why this place manages to stay in business.

This place was pretty jumping, I guess because of the location. Lots of people with frosty beers and margaritas. But I came to eat!

I will eat almost anything, but my cheese enchiladas were too salty to swallow. It was like they had rolled the cheese in salt before putting it inside the tortillas. I ate my beans and rice (okay quality).

My parents were very happy about the beef and chicken in their fajitas ("so tender!"), and the chips were fresh and the salsa was not bad. They do give you a lot of food for the price.

I won't go back if I can help it, though.

I had such dreams. I wanted a bloody Mary, some chile verde, and pozole. Now I see the folly. I went in on my lunch break and ordered the above with the substitution of albogondigas instead of pozole. To put it bluntly, everything was horrible. To be fair the soup wasn't horrible.
However, the bloody Mary lacked the texture and flavor of a good bloody Mary. This tasted more like watered down tomato juice w/ vodka. The chile verde seemed rushed. the pork was tough and didn't flake apart at all.
I must say that it totally ruined my afternoon.

For Bako, Que Pasa is one of the better eats. But, that may be because I usually only order one thing on the menu: Shrimp tacos. Yummmm... They have this awesome tartar sauce that is to die for. I smother my shrimp in them. They offer some decent salads too, with not just the usual dressings. And, sometimes they make the guacamole at your table.

Lackluster Mexican food that only survives because of it's location in the Marketplace.  The food here tastes bland.  I had the chicken fajitas, carne asada and nachos here - and it felt and tasted like I was at El Torito.

The food didn't completely suck or anything - it just wasn't very memorable.  Thursday night karaoke here used to get crazy busy with a fight now and then.  I've heard things have calmed down lately though - with the rowdiness going elsewhere.
