I have tried several Lengthwise beers and ales at various festivals and thought them good although my favorite is still the Jeremiah Red served at BJ's Brew House.  (The almond beer at the nut festival was pretty good.)  We were in the mood for a different place for dinner than we usually went to.  We thought of the Lengthwise at the Marketplace but later realized that the one on Schirra Court was closer to home.  I guess we will have to go there next time.

We liked the pub atmosphere right away.  My husband had the Porter and I had the Golden Ale.  Both were delicious.  Later on we split a glass of the Triple Hop Red Ale and also liked it.  We shared a side salad with an abundance of blue cheese for the dressing.  Yummy.  We both had the 3 piece Fish And Chips which was plenty as there were more fries than either of us could eat.  The fish was great.  We both love English style fish and chips and loaded up on the malt vinegar.

Service was counter only but unfortunately for our bartender there were a lot of people and he was extremely busy.  Despite that he did a great job so we can't fault him at all.  If anyone could be faulted it would be the relief bartender who was late or the manager that left them short staffed.  We were later told it was pretty busy for a Tuesday night.  Staffing is sometimes very hard to predict.

The place was clean so no complaints there.

    We will go back again.

Lengthwise at the Marketplace is everything you want in a neighborhood pub and more!  Its location across the street from CSUB makes it the perfect place for students to hang out, nosh on amazing appetizers, and drink great beer.  The establishment is bedecked in CSUB spirit from old team pictures to pennants.  It really gives it a great, young, vibrant vibe.

The large L-shaped patio provides a decent amount of seating and savor the last couple days of Bakersfield spring before the blazing summer sets in.

The service is always quick and friendly.  The food is even better.  For St. Patrick's day, Lengthwise did a special on slow-cooked corned beef and colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage), which was FABULOUS.  On a normal day, I go for the stinky fries, corn dog, and/or fish n' chips (because a girl can never have too much food).

Lengthwise, I am tickled-pink at your well-deserved success.  Two-and-a-half years ago, there was only one Lengthwise location--now there are three!  Three for you Lengthwise!  You go Lengthwise!

P.S.  I hope to see you guys at the Great American Beer Festival someday.

I honestly thought that the stinky fries at Lengthwise were some of the best fries I've ever had - topped only by the Greek Fries at Peter's Gourmade Grill in Tustin, CA.  Lengthwise's stinky fries are an entire pound of french fries tossed in garlic seasoning and then smothered in ooey-gooey gorgonzola cheese sauce.

Well, step aside stinky fries, you've been replaced by the Nasty Fries.  Nasty fries are basically stinky fries with screaming hot sauce or Fire Fries smothered in gorgonzola, depending on which way you choose to look at it.  Okay, my mouth is made of asbestos so I was in no danger from these things but they left me with a nice slow burn that was quite pleasant.  If you're not into spicy feel free to downgrade back the the stinky fries - they are pretty darn good, too.

I love the stinky burger, too, which is a basic 1/2 pound burger on  focaccia beer bread with gorgonzola cheese sauce.  Do you start to see a pattern here?  I also like their pulled pork sandwiches and tri-tip sandwiches.

Lengthwise has a number of craft beers from which you can choose.  Come on down and check it out!  It is an odd cross between a pub hangout and a family restaurant that just seems to magically work.
