i really don't see what the attraction is.the best i can say is the staff was fast and friendly.my burger was with afried egg and ordered pink.what i got was well done and so greasy the potato roll fell apart when i picked it up. there was also an eighth in of oil floating on the  paper in the bottom of the basket.the french fries and onion rings were crispy but,too heavily salted for me (and i like salt).majority of the seating are stools with no back so kind of un comfortable. i think i'll pass on this establishment.
Review Source:Really guys...it's a bar. Â You're going to possibly get slow service if they're busy, but this is such a fun, cute, and friendly bar to go to in the area. Â In fact, it's my favorite bar in the area.
Let's start with the menu...it's HUGE for a bar. Â Wings, burgers, sliders, sides, hot dogs...they really give you a good variety of your classic bar food items...and then take it up a notch and deliver more quality in the food than you would normally get at other bars.
Not that over fried, nasty junk either. Â I'm a big fan of the boneless wings, and I usually order them "R" rated. Â They have a good kick to them. Â I've tried their other sauces, which are also good, but their homemade wing sauce is definitely my preferred wing sauce there.
The burgers are amazing...a-maze-ing. Â Best in the area hands down. Â There's like 15 different types of burgers to choose from, and if you want to sample, you can order sliders for almost all of the burgers too (Only $2.25 ps). Â That's what I usually do...and it's great! Â They use fresh and delicious potato rolls too...super yummy. Â And they offer beef, turkey, AND tuna...I haven't tried the tuna burgers yet but a couple of my friends rave about them and always order the tuna there.
They have a variety of appetizers...which I usually skip, but I have tried the tuna tower and the guac and both were good.
I've also had a couple of the hot dogs...I'm not the biggest hot dog fan, but when I'm craving one this is the place I'll go to for it.
Their fries are good, and if you like them crispy let them know...for my husband and I they serve them a little undercooked for our liking...but they will crisp them up on request and they are awesome. Â I'm not a big sweet potato fry fan, but they have them there and my friends love them...always say they are the best potato fries. Â Onion rings are good as well if you like that kind of thing.
Okay, aside from food they have a HUGE selection of booze, beer, and specialty beer as well. Â There really is something for everyone...from beer on tap, a huge array of hard alcohol (even buttered popcorn vodka), and they have specialty items like Lambic as well. Â The Jumpin' Jack Flash is one of my favorite cocktails from there.
Staff is awesome here. Â Yes, when it's busy you can possibly get the feeling that you're being ignored. Â You're not though...they are just busy. Â It's one bar with 2-3 staff members, and like 8-9 tables that they have to take care of. Â Just be patient, or flag them down. Â They definitely aren't ignoring you on purpose. Â They are all really nice there and I enjoy going there for that small town bar feel.
Other than that, they have tvs all over the place to watch sports, cool and cheesy decor (which makes the place cute), and an awesome juke box that you can play just about any song on...and you can even download the app and pick tunes right from your iPhone. Â They also have a Wii there if you're feeling like some Wii bowling or boxing.
They also do themed parties and fun incentives to go on Thurs/Fri/Sat...you just have to see what they have going on. Â They are on FB, and usually post their events on there.
Check this place out! Â It really doesn't deserve the crummy reviews it has!!! Â Yelp and help get their rating up!
Typical bar scene with plenty of TV's all tuned to football and enough fans to make it feel like you were at the game. A bit raucous for my taste.
The service was great, beers delicious but the best thing I ever had at a bar was their guacamole! Amazing, just like my homemade version with plenty of chunks of avocado, a huge portion and served with deep fried pita chips. This was a first for me and man was that good. Addictive really. I will return just for that!
I stopped in to have a beer with my girlfriend after having dinner up the street at Liv's. I was initially surprised by the amount of light; I like my bars a little darker and this place was lit up enough to read a book easily. The profusion of televisions was great and we were able to watch a couple of the NCAA basketball games simultaneously (I love March Madness, don't you?). Our bartender was attentive and delivered nicely chilled glasses of tap beer (a wheat for my GF and an IPA for me). My surprise was the cost: $13 for two. Â I think that a bit high for a draft beer. Â
Overall a nice experience and I would not stay away just because of the price of tap beer. But are the rents on Main Street Old Saybrook that high?
The Rabbit Hole is a typical bar not bad nor great. Â I stop in every few weeks for a dog and beer and here's a list of the pros and cons:
The Goods:
-A large selection of gourmet hotdogs and burgers(haven't had a burger yet)
*you can sub out the dogs/burgers for veggie etc
-Decent tap selection
-Decent bottle selection
-Friendly bartenders/locals
-Lots of TV's (always a game on)
-Monday football food/beer deals
The bad:
-Beers on tap are priced a little too high in my opinion
-The shuffleboard (from previous bar) is gone
-The wallpaper is quite tacky
-Too much neon lighting!
As you can tell it's not a bad place. I'm just a little disappointed by the way they decorated the bar ie the wallpaper and the baaad lights. Picky? Yes but by having a little more of an ambiance I'd probably spend more time here. Other than that I do enjoy the Hummel Dogs and Jack's friendliness and will continue to keep this a weekly to bi-weekly stop
