This is my favorite bar, I was born and raised here in town and I'm not a fan of SLO, that being said.. this small town bar filled with locals and awesome bartenders is the place to be for me. They are always friendly and fast when it comes time to get a drink. My only(minor) complaint is that they stopped using regular beer glasses and only have the skinny ones(like for long islands) now.
Review Source:R&D's has that country small town dive feel to it. But it really isn't country. It's just a good old dive bar with a homey atmosphere. The first time I went on a Tuesday night and it was near empty. I went on a Saturday and I actually made good conversation with decent locals. I plan on going back more often. Oh and yes the drinks are pretty stiff. Best bang for your buck around here.
Review Source:Looking to get in a fight? Check. Get served by a rude bartender? Check. Have lowlifes or some gang members doing drugs around you? Check. Karoke here is a joke too. Bad all around. I hate to say this, but Bill's Place across the street is 10 times better - and that place is just OK in my book. I won't be back here.
Review Source:Very rare - DOG FRIENDLY bar!
5 stars for that, only reason we've returned.
As for the rest... Seems to be the local 20 to 30 something meat market. Place is packed in the evenings. Bartenders cannot mix a drink, everything is STRONG and CHEAP. Don't order any gin drinks or anything with booze you can't take straight. Gin and tonic was 3/4 gin 1/4 tonic in a rocks glass. Whiskey and coke was all whiskey with just enough coke to darken the color slightly.
Did I say drinks were Cheap? You can buy a round for 4-5 with a 20 spot, tip generously, and still be shoving a handful of singles in your pocket.
It's a divey, messy, cheap, country place.
People feel free to karaoke "Proud to be an American" and get in fights (no seriously, the bartender left at one point to go outside and fight some dudes). Sometimes there are sketchy guys out back smoking weed.
Drinks are pretty cheap ($6 Maker's manhattans!!) and the bartenders, while not always the quickest to serve you, are friendly and pour 'em strong.
It's unpretentious and fun, and chances are you'll end up being sucked into a conversation with a town drunk. Apparently my true calling is architecture? Thanks, dude with 4 teeth and a glass full of well whiskey!
This bar is pretty cool. Â Especially when my favorite bartenders in all of SLO Â are working.. Jenna, Jason and Michelle are a force to be reckoned with! They are not just easy on the eyes, but some of the coolest people I have met, and they make you feel like your part of the family! Â They are really the only reason I go there, but they do have some other good things going on. Â Thursday is 1$ domestics from 4 - 8, and Jenna's there so double bonus! Â Also, during the summer they have live music and bbq in the back, which is a lot of fun. Â
The crowd is younger on Friday and Saturday nights, and that can be alot of fun, good people watching! I don't go out much, but when I do this is on my list!
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. smoky. karaoke blaring. bad singers. bartender didn't have much signs o' life(and that's not because he was old). hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. locals place. i mean my friends j and s came with me, and we just wanted a place for beers after working, so it's 930pm on a friday night, we're just gonna hang out. okay. it's kinda weird-i shoulda hated this place. all those things-smoke inside(isn't there a law against this?), loud-loud-karaoke and such, but there was a charm to it for some reason. i don't know what it is. i don't know if i have a soft spot for local dives, or if the local guy who likes to sing along w/the karaoke machine while sitting at the bar is just so niche, or if the super drunk college kids home for the holidays were annoying enough, or if the loud music-so loud you almost couldn't carry a conversation- was irritating, but i didn't hate it. i almost felt comfortable there, except when the bad college singers were screaming into the karaoke microphones-that actually hurt my eardrums. it has a pool table in the back room. clean bathrooms for the guys. not bad. can't really hate the place. too smoky to love though.
