Amazing. I made a reservation and spoke with the head Chef Joy. No pun intended, but her name says it all. She was a joy to speak with and really took care of me. I have some food allergies and she said that there would be no issues. When I walked into the quaint restaurant I was greeted almost immediately by Joy herself. She gave me some menu selections that were great. I went on to meet with a client and enjoy a perfect lunch. I can not wait to bring my wife here. Great atmosphere and spectacular food. This will be the first of many trips. :)
Review Source:This is my first yelp review, which means I really mean it. Â Ravenous rocked! I literally talked for an hour to my dining partner about how much I loved this place and how I was so pleased with my lunch that I would write my first Yelp review to profess my deep satisfaction. Here it is:
After walking around the square in Healdsburg trying to find a casual lunch spot, we found Ravenous, which truly hit the spot. Nailed it, in fact.
FRESH, FLAVORFUL, PREPARED WITH LOVE. The ingredients were super fresh and everything was delicious. Â I ordered the fish tacos, which came with a delicious and light salad. My boyfriend had the burger and roasted potatoes, which he couldn't finish. The roasted potatoes are quite substantial. Â
Also: strawberry belini, folks. Nuf' said.
This place was everything I wanted. Tiny, chef-owned, intriguing menu that didn't have generic steak, and wasn't a trendy restaurant like the rest of the places in town.
The wine list is a nice selection. Had the stuffed poblano pepper - pretty amazing. Falafel - best I've had.
This place easily beat all of the other restaurants that I hit on this trip - spoonbar, willi's, Albion river inn, and the house in San Francisco.
Love how this place just has a couple tables. Feels like 1960s California with the setting next to the 1960s theater.
Perhaps the best part was when the yuppy couple featuring a guy with pink shorts sat down, ate some bread, looked at the menu, and walked out. They probably needed to go find a Morton's Steakhouse, Chili's, or Willi's where they can be more comfortable. It's scary to venture away from the suburbs! Â Ravenous just isn't for monarchy from the suburbs.
Love your fish tacos, some of the best I've ever had, sooooo good! Â Great wine by the glass list, as well as bottles. Â Sweet, cozy, new location, just a block of the main plaza. Â My only complaint is I had to ask for a water refill, Â a little thing I know, just a suggestion for servers to pay attention to that. Â Everything else was perfect. Â The photo here is of their old location, not sure why a new photo hasn't been posted, I don't want anyone to miss this adorable place.
Review Source:Had a wonderful Sunday brunch here in their cozy new location on the Square. My omelette was perfectly delicate and absolutely delicious. Their attention to detail and commitment to using the freshest ingredients is obvious in the quality of the food. The intimate setting lends a personal touch missing with many restaurants. I look forward to returning soon for dinner!
Review Source:Very intimate space creates a great atmosphere for a dining experience. Â The food is excellent and the service always top notch. Â Highly recommend the crab cakes, short ribs, flat iron steak and ANY dessert. Â Since they have moved into the smaller space the food is consistently delicious.
The wine list is short but does have good variety. Â Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Healdsburg or for any locals looking for a great meal.
Finally had the opportunity to try Ravenous, stumbling in on a Sunday night without reservations. Â Definitely a cozy restaurant with a lot of potential.
We started off with chick pea cakes (falafel, basically) on a bed of mixed greens with some feta cheese and hummus. Â This was pretty tasty. Â The entrees ordered by our group were chicken cacciatore, linguine with prawns and grilled seabass with fennel and black grain rice. Â My friends seemed happy with their meals. Â However, I had the seabass which was a tad too citrus-y for my tastes. Â While it was moist, it needed some more seasoning and one portion of it was slightly cold...
I understand that it is a small location--but it's strange that it shares the restrooms within the performing arts center nextdoor. Â Clearly there is a connection between the two, but the atmosphere of each are so strikingly different that the lobby to the theater kills the ambience of Ravenous if you have to step out to use the restroom.
Although the waitress was very friendly, it took a while to get water and place our order. Â Given the stiff competition in Healdsburg, I'm not sure I would turn in the near future. Â Disappointing given the history that I understand the restaurant to have with the town.
Ravenous is hugely popular with locals, generally a reliable indicator. Unfortunately, they just don't deliver. Why? Walk through the restaurant and out on to the patio in back and do a quick mental table count. Then walk back and check out the size of the kitchen. Now superimpose a  waitstaff that, while friendly, can only be described as "glacial". You will wait forever, for EVERYTHING. When it comes, if it comes before you lose patience and walk out, it will all be haphazard and at radically different times. Then you'll wait some more. Eventually you will have eaten, and you'll wait for the check.
If you must go, do what the locals do: Sit at the bar and order only the burger, smoked salmon, and/or crab cakes. And never, not EVER, put one of their "fries" (greasy, flaccid wedges of potato) in your mouth - substitute a salad or throw them at people you don't like.
Starters: my boyfriend's pork was dry, my dish was missing scallops, and while my mom and her husband loved the chicken ... my boyfriend said after trying it that we make better chicken at home.
Now, a good thing was that the waiter was friendly and enthusiastic. The host actually kicked some people out to give us a seat as we had come at a busy time without a reservation. We got hungry well before our reservation at Scopa and thought we'd give this place a shot.
Well, we probably just should have held out for Scopa.
My mom said this place was THE rave 5 years ago.
I want to ask "What the hell happened?"
We waiting almost an hour for our table after being quoted 30 minutes. People were seated and then served and left between the time we ordered our 4 entrees. We really thought they had screwed something up and declined to tell us, just offering us bread every 15 minutes for about an hour.
With our complaints the water knocked off the corkage fee but somehow we left feeling really dissatisfied with our general experience. Can't say we'll ever be going back. Unless I'm desperate for a glass of wine and there is bar space. They don't seem to screw that up at least.
We stopped at Ravenous after a special day of wine tasting, and it could not have been any better.
We sat on the back patio, which was quaint and beautiful. The wait staff was amazing, professional and very attentive.
The cheese plate and wine was amazing; zin and malbec. For dinner we had the skirt steak and the short ribs, the latter being the best by far and the most delicious thing I've eaten in years.
All in all, it was a delightful experience and I can't wait to go back.
In cute house that has been converted to restaurant.
I recommend sitting on the back patio if possible.
Hamburger, fish cakes, and BLT have all treated me well. Â
Everything I've tasted just seems so fresh and full of flavor.
It is a great place to finish off an early morning of tasting!
It closes around 2:30.
Really really great. I thought about giving it 5 stars but that may come after my next visit. After a day of wine tasting in nearby Dry Creek Valley, a woman at Hop Kiln gave us this restaurant recommendation as we were in need of dinner (and a few more cocktails) before the long drive back to the city.
The restaurant is very cute and quaint, set in an old home I believe. The interior is very cozy and inviting and very 'small town' feel. My friend and I decided to eat at the bar, even though the restaurant was only half full. The whole place has a very casual and comfortable feel.
We ordered the crab cakes to start, which had a really nice subtle curry flavor. They were crispy and full of crab. I then had the roasted chicken which was juicy yet crisp. Yes, it was just chicken but really well done with yummy mashed potatoes.
While I'm normally not a dessert type, the banana 'something' - can't quite remember - was amazing. I believe it was a banana pudding in this chocolate covered crust shell.. we couldn't stop eating it whatever it was.
I will definitely be back during my next trip to Sonoma!
OMG, it's been almost 9 months and I am still raving about this place. Was recommended this this spot by a local but amazing food with a romantic ambience. We came on the earlier side on a Thurs. and got right in surprisingly. Asked for a seat outside and were led through this charming home-turned-restaurant out to the back patio and then into what used to be an adorable backyard. The tealights set up were the perfect accent to the vines, trees and birds.
Their menu seems to change everyday or so, at least that's what I gathered from their completely handwritten menu. I ordered the stuffed bell peppar and my honey ordered their rib eye. Everything came made to absolute perfection. The stuffed bell pepper had the most amazing fresh flavors, not too overdone and the perfect amount of spice. The rib eye was a beautiful cut, cooked to a perfect med-rare - sooo juicy. You know when food is just so fresh you can tell it's local? That's the taste of Ravenous.
The service was excellent, our waitress was friendly, prompt and knowledgable. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner at dusk soaking in the amazing wine country air.
Even if you don't have to use the restroom, you have to check it out. It reminds you that this place was just a house that has been turned into something even better than a home.
I love, love LOVE Ravenous. Can be a little hard to find (we walked in circles around it for about 20 mins. - a day of wine tasting will do that to ya) but I am so glad we finally found it.
Can you call it a cheeseburger if you can't pick it up in your hands? Â The bun which may well have been delicious on its own was totally overwhelmed by the meat, the jack cheese, a mound of grilled vegetables and blue cheese (if i had known it had blue cheese, i wouldn't have ordered jack). Â It was tasty and the oven fries kicked ass, just wasn't expecting it. Â Went immediately to knife and fork mode after one try at lifting the "burger".
Nice full bar-good conversation.-good wine-friendly local people.
The Ravenous is located in a super cute house just off the square in downtown Healdsburg. We arrived around 7:30 on a Thursday night and the first thing I noticed was how dark it was! From the street the restaurant didn't appear open but once we walked in we were led to our candle lite table.
I went with the seafood pasta as my entree and it was pretty great...the pasta was standard but the bowl was overflowing with mussels, shrimp and scallops. We also shared a bottle of Unti Petit Frere which was well priced and paired well with our meal.
While dinner at The Ravenous was nice I think next time I'd prefer to go during the day so I could enjoy the patio out back.
Last night's dinner at Ravenous was one of the better dining experiences I've had in a long time! Four of us girls, all foodies, thoroughly loved everything from the appetizers we had: Corn cakes topped w/ smoked salmon & caviar, crab cakes & a wonderful salad, to  the lamb that was perfectly done, the Devin sea food cappelini pasta, and the amazing desserts. We were wooing and ahing over every dish.
The place is simple but very pleasant and quite romantic. It was pretty full on a Sunday night, so I'm sure the place has earned it's reputation. The service was friendly and professional, and... we all said we can't wait to go back!
I didn't eat here, but my friends and I came here Halloween night for drinks and people watching. Â
The beer was ok. Â People watching was definitely interesting! Â
The inside is a little cramped but it is a house. Â I like the back yard where they had a band. Â It was sort of a honky tonk, overall wearing, banjo playing band from the Appalachians. Â But they were energetic. Â
I enjoyed watching the drunks stumble down the stairs every time they went outside. Â
There is a hidden area in the back towards the left with a wooden panel covering where many guys were going. Â I'm pretty sure they were all urinating back there.
The name pretty much sums it up - this place is sooo delicious. Â It is a house converted into a restaurant. Â I suggest you make reservations and request the back patio. Â They have tons of flowers and laterns that light it up...making it quite romantic I might add.
We had the crab cakes, which are great! Â The creme brulee was very dreamy as well. Â Their wine list is pretty diverse - remember to save a little for your server to taste!
This place is a must try!
We were up in the Russian River area this past weekend with a bunch of friends for the annual Barrel Tasting event. We have some friends that live in Healdsburg so Friday night we asked them about where we should go for dinner. He suggested Ravenous and made reservations for 6:30. We were staying in Guernville and running late so we thought that 6:30 might be tough so one of us called the restaurant again and asked if it was okay if we moved the reservation to 7:15.. no problem...
We had a little hard time finding the place at first. It seems like on Google there are two of them a block away from each other. In searching this women noticed what we were looking for and gave us the scoop.. The restaurant used to be on one street but then the couple got divorced and now its down the street... she talked really fast and all i remember was post office and get the burger..
Onto the review:
The place is super cute. It looks like a little house. The interior is very rustic. The one down side is there is like negative lighting. When it started to get dark outside it got super dark inside. I couldn't see my food anymore and reading the dessert menu was nearly impossible. I personally like to see what I'm eating.
The food:
Crab cakes: This were pretty good. Flaky and soft. Tasted amazing. It tasted good with/without the aioli it came with. It comes with two crab cakes and we ordered three orders for 9 of us. Everyone at least got half and some got more. It was prefect.
Braised Short Ribs: The best entree of the night. I tried a couple of other's but this one was by far the best. It just melted in your mouth. You could get a perfect bit with a piece or rib and some mash potatoes.. OMG, my mouth is starting to water thinking about it.
Sea bass: The water boy and waitress both recommended this dish. They said it was very good. I thought it was good.. Not as good as the short ribs, but good. It was kind of spicy though. My sister ordered this one and was super sweating while eating it.. haha.. I guess I had a little more light then everyone else b/c the candle light kept shooting off her glossy forehead.. haha
Seafood pasta: IT was really called capillini or something like that. This was okay too. The seafood was all cooked well and the sauce was tasty. The pasta is almost thinner then angel hair. It was very thin and wasn't good at soaking up the sauce. My bf ordered this one. He liked it but liked mine better!
I would prob. come back. I gotta try the burger!
Bambie likes the food and vibe here. Â I think that it's hideous. Â
It's a funky old house with bad plumbing and poor air conditioning that's been converted into a bistro / bar / music venue. Â It does not do any of those things well.
The entire interior is painted glossy tangerine. Yuck!
This is a locals hangout. Â The crowd is mostly 30's something singles & childless older couples. Â They're wine tasting room employees, restaurant workers, and various Sonoma county green leaning folks. Â Â
On live music nights, the action really gets going after 9:00pm. Â It can be busy until 2:00 am last call.
Not very glamorous spot . Â But everyone is sincere & friendly.
The by-the-glass wine list is good.
I has been a while since I'd been here. Â I used to come with a co-worker who liked their food, so it popped up in rotation more than it does now.
Came by today. Â They didn't have the Ahi or the Chickpea on the menu that I typically order, to decided to have the burger. Â Server was less than pleased with the fact that I didn't want an app. Â I didn't want wine and she was guessing I think, that I also didn't want dessert. Â (just because someone comes in an orders a simple meal for lunch with ice tea, doesn't make them a cheap tipper! HOWEVER treating them that way -- will make them less generous by a LONG shot)
Ordered my burger Med Rare, it was Med-well. Â *sigh* Â fine... Â I opted to just have greens on the side rather than fries, and you would have thought I'd asked the waitress to jog 10 miles in the rain to hand pick the greens. Â Â I wouldn't have even cared if there was an upcharge to it - just don't argue with me. Â I am the customer.
Sat and read my book and listened to a table of women, who also were less than pleased with their service. Â
If I thought before this place had fallen out of my rotation, it's now kicked to the curb.
My favorite little place to go for Mojito's and crabcakes. Â In the summer, their backyard is a beautiful and relaxing place to hang out. Â Friendly service, to die for crabcakes. Â and the Mojito's.....well I love when they mash that mint...hahaha.
I have had dinner there, but it has been a while. Â Very small dining area, so you would say "cozy". Â Food was good.
Wow, this place is waaaay overrated.
The food wasn't bad. Â But it wasn't worth the price we paid.
Crab cakes - this was awesome. Â if they are on the menu, get them, HIGHLY recommended, the saving grace of the evening.
Flat Iron steak - I ordered medium rare, it came served to me almost well done. Â The vegis and side were nothing memorable. Â I'm not a chef, nor a great cook, but I could have definitely made this dish myself. Â I had read from other yelpers that they ordered steak that was overcooked. Â I gave Ravenous the benefit of the doubt and believed that their steaks were a fluke. Â Unless you like well done steaks, this isn't the place for you... and if you do like well done steaks... why are you eating steak?
Chicken and potatoes - my girlfriend ordered this. Â The dish as a whole was bland. Â and the mash potatoes tasted like they were made from instant potatoe flakes. Â The next day we ate at Chili's and we remarked how much better the mashed potatoes at the chain was far superior to Ravenous... that's sad.
But the service was great. Â We didn't have a bad time. Â The food wasn't horrible. Â but price of the food definitely wasn't worth the taste.
My love of Ravenous continues. Â Having eaten there "over the years", we were so happy to be back Saturday night before the jazz festival.
The combination of personable service, reasonable prices (17 for 2 beautiful chops from a rack of lamb and mushroom/spinach/potato hash for mains, a beautiful cold tomato soup drizzled with olive oil, wonderful not over rich cheesecake, rasonable wine and through the side door to the theatre to see Kenny Barron and Charlie Haden. Â The rest of our party of 6 was just as happy with their dishes...and we asked them to be out by 7:30 and we were. Â Enough said.
An outstanding place to wrap up a day of wine-tasting.
We ate at Ravenous in mid-December when we were in Healdsburg for a weekend of wine tastings. Â With my husband, sister-in-law and a couple of cousins along, we were a group of five and felt like the center of attention seated at the big table in the center of the main dining room.
Not surprisingly, our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and offered some excellent selections to compliment our meal. Â When he learned we were celebrating the birthdays of several members of our party, he made the occasion extra special with candles in their dessert (but thankfully no embarrassing song and dance). Â
The food was creative and well-prepared. Â From my salmon, caviar and creme fraiche appetizer, through my veal and mint-sauce entree and onto a melt-in-your-mouth dessert, every last bite was incredible.
The daily handwritten menu and casual-elegant atmosphere make Ravenous a unique and smart choice if you're staying in or near Healdsburg.
My only complaint is that the tables near the door were subject to a constant cool breeze and we were pretty chilly at various points during dinner.
Great place for a casual lunch in between wine-tasting stops. Cute and unassuming decor; a little smaller than I expected but didn't feel too crowded inside. They were very accomodating when I called to say we'd be late because our wine tour lasted longer than expected. I would recommend making reservations because it was packed during lunch.
I was specifically looking for a restaurant that wasn't too fancy since I was going to Cyrus that evening. Service was on the slow side since it was prime lunch time, but all the servers were very pleasant. Nice variety on the menu, all very good, from the fish cake salad to the pasta to the BLT w/ avocado. Large portions; prime location in downtown Healdsburg.
I was on a tour of tony restaurants and this one stood out. Â Extraordinary salad, and they matched my holy-shit duck with a perfect zin. Â The waiter was smart and relaxing. Â
META: Â
I was a kid in Healdsburg back when it was a farmer town that closed at 6, now they got taxis and these restaurants that are better than all of LA. Â Holy cow. Â It used to be FFA.
Outback, behind the house, is an unassuming makeshift bar that serves up some of the best atmosphere in all of Healdsburg which makes it the perfect setting to chat with the ridiculously knowledgeable bartender about what glass of wine you should order.
After the fantastic wine flight we headed to dinner elsewhere and since I didn't have the food here I can't comment on the degree as to which we missed out...but I know we missed out.
So we came back after dinner for dessert! This was some of the best berry crisp I have ever had (and I've sampled a lot of crisp, crumbles, and cobblers) paired up with...will you believe...a really good cappuccino???
I'm going back for dinner and finding that fifth star!
In a nutshell, pretty but disappointing.
My friends and i were excited to have lunch here, before jetting off to the wineries. If these reviews are anything to go by, we had many reasons to be excited! Man, we were sorely let down.
The staff was extremely inattentive. It was like serving us was an afterthought. The poor, overworked busboy was even more polite! Without any explanation, warning, or apology, our order took 45 minutes to arrive. Granted, my crab cakes were delicious, but I would've felt much better getting any sort of acknowledgment for waiting so long. (or even just a smile)
We're not ones to dine-and-dash, but DAYMN.... we were seriously contemplating it, because it would've been AGES before they noticed we were gone.
The wait was so bad, the table of 6 ladies next to us simply left after getting a beer and a few glasses of wine.
In order to get simple things like ketchup (for my friend's burger & fries) or to pay our check, we resorted to walking directly to the bar. Clearly, they had abandoned us to age like wine in an oak barrel. Again, no apologies or smiles from either our hostess or the waitress. (Customer service, anyone?)
Maybe their usual, awesome wait staff all went on vacation for Labor Day. Can't blame them.
I'm hesitant to write this place off, so be forewarned that the food is okay to good and the service is spotty. Consult your horoscope and pray that you're going on a good night.
Food is terrific, however some tables are really uncomfortable to sit in. Â Unfortunately I was seated at the booth close to the left of the door when you are entering the restaurant, that's a pretty bad seat. Â I had to get up several times because I felt my back was hurting. Â The food was wonderful however. Â
Smoked salmon appetizers, crab cakes were delicious. Â The quail was also awesome. Â At first I was a little afraid of ordering the quail because quails are little poultry like animals with lots of bones! Â Plus they are small, I hate eating small bony things. Â To my surprise, the quail is almost completely de-boned and stuffed with a whole bunch of wonderful fragrant rice, herbs and other stuffings. Â People who don't eat certain types of meats might want to check on the stuffing and ask if they can hold some meats from being stuffed.
I got some beer, what was I thinking??? I am in Healdsburg!!! Get WINE with your meal, that's if you're not 'WINED OUT' from all the tastings in the afternoon.
I so dig this place. Â I like that it is not right on the town square - makes it feel like a little bit of a secret place (although I have seen it crowded - not such a secret). Â I got to sit outside in the neat backyard area for lunch on my last visit to Healdsburg to meet up with a friend. Â
Their food is always inventive and delicious - although I expected a change to the items on the lunch menu since my last visit in January. With so much fresh local produce available, I thought that their menu would have a more season edge to it. Â (Not that it stopped me from ordering the BLT with avocado again!) Â The wine list has a nice variety of local and non-local wine - somehow, I keep order the French white - so tasty!
Definitely a great place to stop for lunch or dinner if you are in Healdsburg.
Awesome crabcake with aioli sauce, on top of Asian-flavored noodles. Â
Casual, friendly atmosphere. Â
It was a perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Â And that I was in good company made up for the slow service that came with a waiter who said "absolutely" to everything. Â Â
Can we have some water and bread? Â "Absolutely."
We'll have the pinot gris. Â "Absolutely."
We'll have the crabcake and the chicken pasta. Â "Absolutely."
Can we have more water? Â "Absolutely." Â
Check, please. Â "Absolutely."
Actually, our waiter was absolutely funny that we almost forgot how slow the service was.
The crabcake was so good that my friend ended up eating half of my meal, while skipping his bland pasta. Â Oh well, at least the portion was not too skimpy for sharing...
OK how cute is this place? Â it's like your in someone's house & you kinda are made to feel that way by the staff as well. Â until we were told we were being too loud & to keep it down, then we were reminded we were in a restaurant. I think they put it "we've had several complaints about you"....NO NO Â not me personally , though those of you that know me may not believe that.
The cappilini with an array of seafood is off the hook! Â a decent wine list & my gosh the price is right. I cant believe 15 of us at & drank & drank & DRANK for as inexpensive as the bill came out to be.
