"Metro Night"?? You've got to be kidding me. Just call it what it is... this is gay night. It's literally the only place in Tallahassee where the gays can go out and congregate every Friday night.
It doesn't start getting busy until after 11:30 p.m. and I made the mistake of showing up about an hour earlier. It did give me a chance to perch at the bar and people watch. Boys wearing make-up. Girls with really short hair. A small group of trannies (who, according to the tags on their van, drove from Missouri). Older guys with noticeable plastic surgery. Definitely not the group of cute FSU frat boys I had anticipated.
The DJ was awesome. Seriously. I was really impressed with his song choices and everything kept moving throughout the night. The drinks were pretty expensive (I don't even pay $8 for a Kettle One & tonic in Atlanta) and so was the cover charge.
Metro night on Friday was great! Â Just moving here and there being no gay bars in tally, Â we thought we would try rayn. Â I am glad we did!! Â The customers were nice looking and fun, the bar tender (also the web designer). was super friendly, without all the big city tude like Chicago. They just need more than one night of queer!!!
Review Source:Formerly Club Elements and for those who have been around even longer, formerly Club Deep, the newly re-managed/restructured/renamed spot, Club Rayn is taking a stab at trying to provide Tallahassee with an alternative location for fun to be had.
So, my first encounter with Club Rayn was last night, as I slid in VIP style with the Art of the Catwalk managing team and their entourage of "Kittens" auditionees. I was a judge of a group of about 2 dozen girls who were auditioning to be members of the Catwalk Kittens (think Pussycat Dolls). Â
The club is in a really great location, right in the lot with Publix on Tharpe and Monroe Street. So close to 3 dozen of us fabulously hot girls bombard the club for a night of final monitoring, social networking and dancing.
I hadn't been back in the club since it was Deep. The owner really knows his stuff! The club has an awesome little atmosphere. I love it when you feel like you've left Tallahassee.
The decor is funky and hip, ample seating, it really has a nice contemporary feel. There's a nice little dueling bar area, where the drinks are to die for! I must say, my drink was consistently potent (which is a good thing). Just enough kick to take a sip and call yourself drunk but not too much so that you're flat out after your 3rd (hey, I likes my martinis!). So they definitely get a star for the drinks.
So we're all in, some of us at the bar, some of us group together for some girl chatter. Saturday night is dedicated to being an 80's night so we were ready to start partying like it's 1985.
One martini down, the girls were still kinda just standing around mingling, so I decided to approach the DJ stand so we could get things poppin'. Another huge star for being able to read the crowd! The DJ quickly sped up the time machine and gave us all of our very favorite hits from feeling Glamorous to bringing our Sexy Back. Let the raunchy, sassy hits begin!!! We were hip rocking and booty shaking the night away! Â I guess all it took was seeing a boatload of half naked strip aerobics girls clawing their way to the dance floor and he knew how to move those turn tables. Girls on the dance floor, mission accomplished.
Fun was had for all as the hours faded by and we all circled around dancing and having a gay ole time. It's nice to know that "when the students leave", there are still some clubs out there who take on the challenge of keeping things in Tallahassee hopping.
My verdict...bring your crew and let it Rayn!
