Nope. Not happening again. We were in the Cape for only a few days on vacation and stumbled upon Red Nun.
Red Nun Burger - Bad
Super soggy flavorless onions, a greasy bland cheddar cheese, floppy mushrooms from a can, translucent white lettuce shavings, and a bland over-medium patty piled a-high on an...English muffin (?). So bad. I douced the fries with malt vinegar and decided to just eat those instead.
Grilled Codfish Sandwich with Pesto and Cajun Seasoning - Bad
What we expected to be a light and spicy tasting filet actually arrived dripping in oil on a non-memorable bun with pesto mayo and some "Cajun" seasoning that completely missed the mark.
It pains me to heap all of this negativity, but I really think there are a ton of opportunities for improvement. Our server, Hannah, was very sweet and accommodating. Her helpfulness and great attitude was the highest point in our meal.
My girlfriend and I went to the Red Nun Bar & Grill based upon the generally positive reviews here on Yelp, and while it wasn't the most horrible dining experience that we've ever had, it certainly wasn't the best. We chose to eat outside on the patio but I wasn't the biggest fan of the cheap little plastic chairs we had to sit in. Not that the chairs are that big of a deal, but I'd normally expect something a little bit more comfortable. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and the fish taco's, while my girlfriend ordered the veggie burger. The clam chowder was pretty good so no complaints there, however, the fish taco left much to be desired. The fish itself was decent but the taco was assembled sloppily, with a tiny bit of cabbage on the bottom of the tasteless tortilla and some unappetizing shredded cheese thrown on top. What bothered me the most about the meal though were the nacho chips that came with the tacos. The chips were stale upon arrival and not tasty in the slightest. My girlfriend's food was fine tasting according to her but by the time we got back home she had developed a bit of a stomach ache. Overall, for the price we paid the food was sub-par on all levels.
The icing on the cake to my bad meal was when I told the waiter about my stale chips and "meh" taco's, she gave me one smart-a** remark after another. She could have easily been nice about it and just offered something else right off the bat, but instead she chose to throw me sarcasm. I'm not the kind of guy to really act like some kind of entitled jerk at restaurants, but I felt somewhat disrespected.
Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Red Nun Bar & Grill.
Didn't know what to expect from this place but my dad and I went for dinner and it was awesome! I heard about their fantastic burgers which is kind of why we went, but when we got there and heard their specials, neither of us got a burger!
I had the grilled pepperoni and onion pizza that was a special. It came with clam chowder, which our server told us comes from Captain Parkers. I'm not a huge fan of CP's chowder, but this was good, rich and creamy! The pizza was also delicious. My father got the swordfish which was a reasonable price and also said it was tasty. He got soup with his meal as well.
The server was friendly and even though she made some mistakes and had some shortcomings as a server (must have been new) she made up for them by being attentive and friendly. We sat on the outdoor patio and it was just the perfect summer night. The inside is a little stuffy and dive-like, but we will probably only go during the summer and sit outside because the patio was so lovely.
We will definitely be back.
Ok went to this place hearing that it was a good burger joint. Went once, got burgers...they were good....but service was slow. Friendly, but slow. Went back a second time and I won't be going again. ordered the nachos with chili (literally less than a 1/4 C chili over top of them and all the chips were broken pieces of chips) Rather small order for $12....should have been priced $6-8 for what was served. If it had been I'd not be complaining. Then I ordered the fish tacos....I will admit, I am a menu skimmer....totally guilty of that. I read the first line of the fish tacos saying they were "2 grilled soft shell tortilla"....evidently, they literally just meant they grilled the tortillas and the fish itself was fried. I felt as though they deliberately worded it that way for skimmers like myself. If you like and want fried food...the fish tacos were good and I'm glad i was at least splitting them with someone so I wan't too nauseated after. I just normally avoid ever eating fried food anymore, however I ate one on this day because it was already 2p and I'd worked the morning and didn't have time for breakfast, so I was hungry. And we were tight on time.  When I expressed my surprise to the waitress about them being fried....she didn't say anything or even offer to make a swap. Then when I ended up eating one, she made a point to comeback and ask if i liked it anyways even though it was fried....which kind of felt like it was in the spirit of "see you ate it, so what are you bitching about" .  That said, I'm never nasty & i'm capable of being courteous while expressing my discontent....however, not everyone takes feedback as an opportunity to grow & better themselves from. It was certainly not the waitress's or the restaurant's fault that I didn't read the description more accurately...however, when I said to the waitress "Oh, I thought they were grilled not fried" A better response would have been  "Actually this is what the menu said, but would you like to swap it out" rather than saying nothing....then coming back noting that I ate anyhow. And as for the restaurant....there's nothing wrong with specializing in "bar food"....but you can't price yourselves 35% more just because your in Chatham and expect people not to pay attention to value & quality. Especially now, are times tougher-yes, but thats all the more reason restaurants have to step it up. Honestly, I'm a cook myself.....and I  have cooked everything I ate here healthier and tastier. When I go out to eat, I want to leave feeling challenged to go home and try to do a better job myself.
Review Source:We went late afternoon and grabbed a seat at the bar. Â Bartender made a great margarita and this is a fun spot to have some beers.
But based on the nachos we ordered and the food I saw around us the atmosphere and cocktails may be the strong point, though I hear the burgers are good.
My friends and I had a horrible experience here this week. Â We called ahead of time to put in our order before the kitchen closed. Â After asking a quick question about a food option...the staff member told us "I'm hanging up in 3 seconds if you don't finish your order." Â Upon arrival we got a table, but we were told that we would have to order and pick up our own drinks from the bar because our server would not. Â What??? Â We ordered wings and our server told us that wings were not allowed to be wrapped up to be brought home. Â Odd rule but ok....As we went to pay our bill...the manager confronted our party because his wait staff stated that we were insulting them in our booth. Â We did NO SUCH THING...but found it very weird that they tried to eaves drop on our conversation. Â We come to Chatham every summer...but will never return to this rudely staffed establishment.
Review Source:Great burgers!! Nice little bar, if you're looking for outdoor seating you won't have a crazy wait here, although it isn't much of a "view" just a patio off the dining room, great for summer nights out in the fresh air. They have a specialty burger served on an English Muffin which is a nice change, and we found ourselves doing that at home from time to time. Friendly staff, owners have been present a few times when I have gone which always has a positive effect on the overall operation. Bar area is a bit small but decent food and a good crowd of fun people.
Review Source:Red Nun is a fun place to go if you're looking for a no-frills bar where you can just relax and watch a game or hang with friends. It is not a place to go if you're looking for a fine dining experience or a romantic atmosphere. The best time to go is during Red Sox games, and I really enjoyed their fried lobster special-- truly decadent.
Review Source:So my wife and I recently returned to this place and had waitress service for the first time there. We used to go all the time and it's still one of my top favorite burger spots on the cape but when we would go we'd always just sit at the bar and have a great time and a great meal. However, now that we have a baby we got a table instead, and unfortunately our experience with the waitress was sub-par. Oh she was nice enough but it was tough to get her to ask her for something. The big turnoff we had though was that my wife had specifically asked for her fish tacos to have the chipotle sauce on the side. Came out with the sauce in it. Also asked for a side garden salad with chicken on it. Came out with no chicken (the chicken was for our 10-month old and as it didn't come out we ended up picking apart our chicken nachos so he could eat those pieces instead).
Lastly when we got our meals (we had the salad and nachos first then the fish tacos and a burger). we asked the waitress if we could get a plain untoasted English muffin (which is what they use for the burger buns here) so that we could feed that to our son as well. She said there would be a charge we said no problem. She came out 10 minutes later to tell us to please be patient as it was being toasted. We then told her we specifically asked for it not to be toasted. Her reply "Oh well I'm going to have to check with the manager as there will be a charge for another one" and then she came right back with an untoasted one and said that we would be charged for it as well. WTF?!?!?!? SHE messed up why do *we* have to pay for it? And sure enough we got charged for it on the bill. We'd already been there quite a while at that time and our son was really acting up otherwise we would have contested it.
Now I'm not gonna lie, the food here is awesome and the burger is tied for first place with my other local fave, Brotherhood of Thieves of Nantucket, but the service last time here turned me off. Yeah we'll be back again but only if we get a chance to sit at the bar again and not deal with the waitstaff as the bartenders there are great and quick. Too bad because food-wise can't recommend this place enough and my last review had given it 5 stars but between the English muffin fiasco and the poor waitstaff service, I'd recommend a bar-top visit or order to go.
Two words: FRIED LOBSTER. Â It was amazing. Â I have passed by the Red Nun thousands of times and never went in until a few weeks ago - probably my new favorite spot in Chatham. Â I think I had Texas or Western burger (something along those lines) and it was definitely one of the best burgers on the Cape. Â Got a kick out of the drink menu too - I'm sure I'll be back soon.
Review Source:This place has some seriously good eats, and has become my top post-beach destination for a beer and laid back dinner.  I agree with other Yelpers that it has limited interior seating (expanded to ample outdoor seating in the warm weather), a small bar and looks a bit like a college pub.  Having driven by this restaurant for years on the way to town while almost not noticing it was a restaurant, we ordered a number of beachside classics that are easy to get wrong.  Well, Red Nun got them right and all were simply delicious!  We tried the fried native calamari (tender and flavorful), fried lobster (the light batter nicely accented - rather than covered up - the delicate sweet lobster flavor) and  stuffed quahogs (perfect balance of fresh quahog meat in the stuffing and only the slightest hint of bell pepper, which so easily can overpower the other flavors if overdone).  We would have ordered the fried soft shell crab, but they had sold out.  The place is known for its burgers, and these easily exceeded our expectations as well.  The kitchen certainly knows what it is doing and that shows.
Review Source:While walking down main street in Chatham Brit and I came across this little spot. Â Right up the street from the Chatham minor league ball park it looked inviting, but as we had another 2 miles to walk we decided to bypass it. Â
Once we got back to the house, we went over dining options and made the decision to head to Red Nun a bit later in our trip. Â
Boy was I glad we stopped in a few days later. Â A tiny dining room with an even tinier bar greeted us. Â Fresh popcorn was popping behind us as we came in. Â There was a nice buzz about the place. Â
Brit and I walked up to the bar and Brit ordered a Harpoon and I ordered a Green Monsta IPA.  It was then that the waitress grabbed us to show us to our table.  AS I sat down I sampled the IPA - good solid flavor, medium body nice hop aroma.  A solid ale.  Looking at the menu I knew I had to order a burger.  As the menu states "Our award winning burgers are a  1/2 lb Angus hand packed patty with a special blend of herbs and spices served on a sandwich-sized English muffin with french fries & a pickle." Â
I started off with the stuffed quahog. Â I have never had it before therefore I have nothing to compare it to. Â It reminded me of bread stuffing with bits of clam in it. Â It was a good starter, and I tossed some hot sauce on it to add a bit more flavor to the garlic and sage in the stuffing. Â
I ordered the Holy Moly Burger and HOLY MOLY was it good. Â They cooked it to the Med Rare I ordered. Â The burger had those little burned bits of meat that added some crunch to the juiciness of the center of the patty. Â Fresh lettuce, a slab of red onion and tomato added more flavor and texture to the burger while the hot sauce added a good amount of head. Â The crowning glory of the burger was the English muffin. Â It absorbed all the juices without getting soggy, it didn't need any smashing down to get the burger in my mouth and is definitely let the meat be the star. Â The fries were definitely second rate citizens behind the burger. Â Not much seasoning, and I wish they were hand cut and double fried, but that's just me. Â
Service was good, and the menu goes along with the nun theme. Â Drinks are spins on the Christian faith - with Father this and Sister that, or The God drink. Â All in all a stellar stop in our tour of the Cape. Â We'll be back again and again.
Bottleneck due to the small space but I like the vibe. They definitely arent the kind of place thats gonna change the way they do it . Lots of people waiting to get served. Definitely just a burger joint and not fancy. Good spot to watch a game. Â Thought pricey for the fried clams they were good. Not worth 20$ but maybe 12$. Wedge salad was good , a little overdrowned with dressing.
Review Source:We normally do eat out on the Cape on Saturday night, never mind on the 4th of July weekend. Â But we braved the crowds for burgers at the Red Nun Bar & Grill. Â The Cape Cod online guide claims that the Red Nun is the "hands-down winner among readers." Â A user comments, Â "The meat is seasoned in a zesty, but not overpowering, way;...and, finally, it's HUGE!" Â
The Red Nun, named after a type of buoy, is both a hole in the wall and a scene. Â The bar overflowed while tables were reserved for dinner guests. Â
The Red Nun serves a half dozen signature burgers.  I ordered the Western, which featured Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, bacon, Swiss cheese, and sautéed onions; I like my burgers sweet.  My girlfriend ordered the B&B burger, which featured Bacon and creamy blue cheese.  The burgers are all  1/2 lbs., served on a sandwich sized English muffin.
Because we disagree on the deliciousness of blue cheese, my girlfriend and I kept our burgers to ourselves. Â When they arrived, they didn't look huge but they were thick and clearly hand packed. Â That I finished it so quickly is I think a testament to its flavor since soon after finishing I wanted to lay on a couch, hold my stomach, and moan "I ate too much."
We agreed the meat was the most well-seasoned of the three, but Rebecca found hers a tad overcooked considering she ordered medium. Â Plus the fries were still a fail. Â These were very thin, very fast-food like fries.
Ahhh... there is nothing like a good dive bar. Going to the Red Nun with the intention of eventually watching the game; great wings (.25 ea), a great selection of beers and attentive bartenders were a much greater draw than the game. This tiny unpretentious bar is a great place to hang out after a day on the links or at the beach.
Review Source:Well our bachelor party convened here for last call after we had worn out our welcome at the Squire (story redacted). Â Â Fun spot!
I was standing by the juke, loading it up with straight up FLAVA and asked some kid if he wanted to hear some Megadeth. Â "Megadeth?" he said.
"You don't know what Megadeth is??!?!?!" Â I was flabberghasted. Â
So I tried to un-ghast my flabber and put on "Symphony Of Destruction" so he could get educated. Â What a clown!
Too small! We have been here several times but the last few times have just been lacking. The waitstaff is often rude and takes awhile to get to you, even when they aren't busy. The food is quite good. A lot of times people can be quite rude there, especially if you're not a local, and we are.
Review Source:This place blows....unless you are from Chatham. For a town that definitely benefits from tourism, I am amazed at how unfriendly so-called locals can be. I was surprised to be carded when we walked in as both my wife and I are rarely asked for ID back home (at least I never am). I realized it was so they could see where we were from. Once they saw we were from out of state, we got little to no attention from the bartender and left soon after our second beer. If you are a prick from Boston, you'll feel right at home here.
Review Source:This place is GREAT.....very small dining room (only seats 26 with 3 round high-tops, 3 tables that seat 4, and 2 that seat 6) and small bar (maybe 10 stools) it is GREAT FUN. Â
We arrived at 6 pm on the night of an "As" game, and waited about 5 minutes for a table. Â Sharleen was a FABULOUS waitress, and even though every inch in the place was packed, she was friendly and efficient....we did not wait for anything.
Warning - the portions are SMALL, but excellent. Â I told Hot Mamma that I liked the fact they did not serve King Sized portions....but we did have to order an extra chicken finger dinner for the girls (each order only has 2 pieces).
Food is GREAT. Â I had the Swordfish special and it was a perfect steak with a light sauce, rice and some veggies....Hot Mamma had the Fish Tacos (only 2) and they were delightful.....I also had a cup of chowder (very small, decent but too many potatoes) and Katie LOVED the stuffed Quahog and Wedge salad.....
Took a bit for the food to come out, but it was well worth the wait.....
Best of all we had a prime parking spot for the As and we strolled over to the game which is an excellent adventure on its own!

Spent 5 nights on the Cape and just got sick of the fried tourist spots. Took a chance on the Red Nun and it hit the spot. A total locals joint with good beer selection and great burgers. Wait staff (I think Jennie was our waitress) was superb. We were there with our 4 and 5 yr olds. We ordered off menu for them both and the staff had no problem with it. Will definetly return.
Review Source:My family and I stopped by the Red Nun for dinner on New Year's Eve. We arrived and ordered some drinks while waiting a few minutes for a table. After waiting yet another few minutes to receive menus, we quickly decided on a round of the Red Nun Burger. The burgers arrived within 15 minutes and they were fantastic! The large English muffins were a nice unique touch and the burgers were juicy and cooked just as we asked.
Despite our slow service (maybe because it was New Year's Eve), we did enjoy our visit. I think if I came back here, I'd sit at the bar and just order beers and another burger since they were fantastic, the dining room is just too small for a "sit down" dinner. They also have a great selection of beer (Wachusett, Cape Cod, etc.) on tap!
The Red Run is my favorite lunch spot in Chatham, hands down. The staff are extremely friendly, and not just to the locals. I've been there for lunch a dinner over a dozen times now, and I've never had a meal that has disappointed me. Most recently, I had the jerk wrap. YUM! It had the perfect amount of spice and flavor. They expanded a few years ago, so it doesn't feel as cramped as it once did.
There a fun later-night party scene there, as well. It can get pretty rockin' there late. I MUCH prefer hanging out at The Nun as opposed to The Squire any day of the week. I don't feel like getting hit on my rich jerks in pink pants like you do at the Squire... that's just me.
Check it out!
Definitely a local's pub/bar, the Red Nun is a cute small place on the outskirts of the main drag of Chatham. There aren't a lot of tables there, so if you go...go earlier than later. We went last night at 5:30 and by the time we left at 7 ish, it was basically packed.
Good food, they will accept substitutes if you ask. The food also comes out really quickly and the waitress is very nice. Prices weren't  bad at all and the fish was really tasty.
