eh. i would lose the word "cafe" from the title and quit trying to serve food (the idea of eating here was not cool). The place was kind of a dump and i had to over come a barrcade of crap to make ot into the restroom. Â the art/ atmosphere has a unique flair, not otherwise found in bryan. Â i was most dissappointed to find a beautiful courtyard littered with trash, cigarette butts and random pieces of junk. Â felt like i was chiil'n at a flea market or trailer park. Â if this place is ever for sale i'd like to see someone utilize its full potential.
Review Source:Big Up! Â Tidal Waves band from So Africa--reggae/blues/original music will be at Revolution Thur May 10. After seeing them headline at Austin Reggae Fest Saturday night I wouldn't be anywhere else after finals. Talk about a Talented Live Hard Working Band!!!! Â Ziggy thought so when they played on his tour in Africa last year. Bought their 2nd aibum 'Afrika'...awesome!
Review Source:What Justin V said. I've been spending more time at this place, and learning to love it more and more. Revisited last night with a friend after a few hours at Downtown Uncorked (another Bryan institution). Friendly staff, great and expanding beer selection (other drinks too, i just haven't gotten around to any), and a real nice vibe. Very enjoyable to sit out in the patio under the lights and while away an evening listening to local talent. A Bryan institution, and rightfully so.
Review Source:The owners very hateful, rude, and unprofessional. Doesn't like "kids" at her bar. It's a fucking college town lady get the fuck over it. It defiantly gets way to loud inside the bar part. I think they need to open it up a little so you could at least hear yourself think. The bartenders are great very nice and make some of the best drinks I've ever tasted. This little hippie bar has a lot of potential. If they booked bands that speak more to the younger generation I bet they would be making a lot more money and be a lot more busy. In the end you go to a bar for music, drinks and to socialize. They have the drinks down but not the music and you can't socialize if you can't hear. It is literally impossible to hear inside that bar when a bands playing and college kids don't want to hear the blues. They want to hear Adele or bob marley something entertaining and upbeat. Not the same old low down blues. The owner really needs to open her mind and change some things for the better, college kids are the majority here and she should give them a place to be able to be weird and stand out. Â right now I see no progress in that bar except for there amazing drinks. If you ever go there I recommend the strawberry shake shot. It's spectacular!
Review Source:This is probably the epicenter of Progressive Bryan. The Rev is situated behind Los Nortenos and is a sliver of a bar. There's a nice courtyard, which provides a reprieve from the smoking indoors (boo). There's a small indoor and outdoor stage for concerts, jam sessions, and poetry slams.
Don't come here for Glenlivet, but they do have a comprehensive liquor selection and will gladly make you a drink. The Rev is one of the places with New Republic beers, BCS' resident microbrewery.
Prices are very reasonable and there are always specials. In short, The Rev is probably the best place to escape the undergraduates in CS. Drink local!
Relaxing patio out front, complete with strings of lights, and a Starry Night painting on the walls of the building creating a beautiful peaceful atmosphere to the evening. Â The coffee/beer bar is full of lots of happy people, mostly college aged and lots of good enthusiastic good fun. Â They serve tasty italian ices, fancy coffee, as well as being a beer and liquour establishment. Â I wasn't overwhelmed by the sangria or hot chocolate, it's perhaps best to stick with the other drinks. Â They also offer food choices such as pizza, and sandwiches, but I didnt' really see anyone eating here on the two occasions I came out for a show. Â The bar looks to be surrounded by a great many bars, cafes, and restraunts in a cute little town square in Bryan.
Review Source:Okay, I admit it: I can be a bit of a tool. Â And it turns out, in the case of Revolution, I was. Â Look, in my defense, the previous nights I've been there have been a perfect storm of suck. Â But I learned last night that sometimes I'm wrong (I KNOW, RIGHT?) and the owner's a friggin' sweet pea. Â She actually read my previous review and took some of it to heart, cleaning up the joint some and now I kind of feel like a jerk. Â
The bar's still a little janky, the art's pretty naive and there was some Kid N Play fauxhawk douchebag that wouldn't shut up or go away (screaming obscenities at me in Spanish as he left the area made me feel like I was back in Chicago).
I think I finally understand that that's part of Revolution's charm and I need to shut up and drink the hippie Kool-Aid. Â
I super like sitting outside till the wee hours, cocktail or no and the fact that the staff is friendly, the patrons a little weird and while I'm still never going to pay to see a freaking xylophone band again, I'll be back to hang with my guy and just enjoy the company and atmosphere.
The past First Fridays in Bryan, I found myself here drinking three dollar Sangria and listening to local bands. The crowd was awesome, and the bartenders were extremely nice! This is the closest thing to any sort of cultural and music scene that I have found in BCS since moving here. Will definitely go back for some drinks and music.
Review Source:Just got back from First Friday in downtown Bryan, and due to some Yelp reviews we met some friends here. Â This is great. Â Really nice and relaxing, love being able to sit on a couch outside, have a smoke with a beer and listen to some awesome live music. Â Tonight Grimy Styles performed some very unique and beautiful music. Â I don't know what you would call the style sort of new age with a lot of unique instruments. Â Wonderful sound system. Â Wow, this is a unique and quite enjoyable stop in Bryan. Â Nice diverse crowd of all races which we like to see. Â
Thanks to the other Yelpers for the comments as it most certainly did play a role in getting us curious enough about this to find some excellent music. Â Tonight was a $5 cover charge and worth every penny. Â Â Thumbs up!
I've always loved this place and have been a big fan for years. Â Unfortunately, the bartender that has been working the past couple of Tuesdays stinks. Â First off, he's slow as Christmas, plus, I ordered doubles, then watched him pour a quick four count (maybe a single). Â I called him out on it and he gave me attitude and refused to correct his mistake. Â I've been a bartender for several years and know what a double should be.
I told the owner, she blew me off.
Maybe I'll be back when they get someone who can bartend.
I really have to wonder why it took me so long to find this place. Â I've been stationed in College Station (no pun intended) for over 7 years now. Â I can't help but wonder how much higher my quality of life would have been had I discovered Revolution from the very beginning.
This place is a diamond in the rough. Â Previously I thought that I had to get in the car, drive 100 miles to Houston or Austin, just to get what I can get in Downtown Bryan. Â Every time I go to Revolution there is great live music, great drinks, and most importantly, great people. Â This last one is no small feat. Â Most bars in College Station are of the country/western or frat daddy variety, and this place is the antithesis. Â People are friendly, and not just because they're trying to get your number (which in this case would be fine by me).
It's quirky, unpretentious, and they are even socially conscious. Â They consistently host events and fund raisers for both local and global charities and causes. Â And you thought you were just getting to listen to live music and have a great beer! Â What a place.
The Verdict: Come for the people, have a beer, sit down and stay a while.
Cheap beer, great music, laid back atmosphere--what more could you ask for? Â It is the complete antithesis of most bars in College Station and embraces the Bryan feel. Â The bartenders know your name and drinks, the bands get there early to mingle with the crowds, cover charge (if there is one) is minimal. Â I'm not a coffee drinker, yet I've heard no complaints. Â The train is a pain, but it all adds to the Bryan appeal. Â It you're looking for an alternative to the pretty College Station feel, look no further.
Now that I don't live in CS/B anymore, the thing I miss the most is Revolutions. Â Rola really went out of her way to make everyone feel like family and it didn't take long before you knew all the bartenders and patrons on a first name basis. Â The food was decent, but tended to run out since it was so popular. Â The beer selection is great and they do a homemade sangria for mere pennies. Â Everytime we're in Bryan, we make it a point to stop by.
An oasis in the wilderness. Â The music events vary in quality and styles, but over all a good time. Â The dance floor could use a... floor, but there is something great about listening to music outside with a bunch of nice people having a good time. Â The train makes a sporadic background racket that I was able to get used to after a while.
The coffee is decent, and the service has always been great. Â All the art everywhere makes hanging out and doing nothing but looking around a pleasure. Â Tried to study here once, I was not very productive that time. Â There is not much room inside to find a quiet spot- maybe in the spring it will be possible outside if not too windy.
This is the best hang out I have found in the College Station/Bryan area... this is not saying much- I would give it four stars if it was located in a city.
