taken out by friend with local knowledge, hit it just right for the Wednesday special, dinner for two, appetizer, entree, desert for $28.00, or $32.00 with a bottle of wine, or pitcher of beer.
Service was great  (yay Alexa!), wine was nice, food was good, large portions, tasty. Friend had the Strawberry/Banana bread pudding for desert, and was super! I had carrot cake, and it was yummy too.....
Will be back!!
This is certainly not the Woonsocket of yore!
Background: I grew up in Woonsocket. Â I lived there until I was 13, when my parents moved me to a 'nicer suburb,' but I return pretty often since most of my family is still there. Â After visiting my grandmother in the hospital recently, we were in search of a nice place to go for lunch, and the mister was looking for a place that carried some RI-brewed beer. Â A quick search led us to River Falls, which I was happy to read, carried Ma Glockner's cinnamon rolls. Â Yes.
So off we went, and what a lovely building we found! Â Right on the water, lots of stone, beautiful building, lovely! Â Not the Woonsocket of my childhood, that's for sure.
Some of the highlights: a vegetarian pasta dish featuring tortellini, sun-dried tomatoes, and artichokes, grilled flatbread pizza, good iced tea, and of course, those cinnamon rolls. Â I packed those bad boys up and took them home for later. Â They didn't let me down.
Service was lovely, and they have live music now and then. Â The biggest disappointment was that they were all sold out of those RI-brewed beers which drew us there in the first place, but they did have other good options so it turned out ok in the end.
Happy to have happened upon River Falls!
Really nice building. It's an old mill redone so it's kinda cool. Inside its two levels but upstairs is open up to lower level that makes it a great view for watching a band. I've never eaten here but I hear good things. This is the spot to hit on Thursday nights. They got drink specials and their better bands play. It's packed with people of all kinds. That's when I'm there.
Review Source:Disclaimer: I have only been here for private functions.
Easy parking across the street. If you are feeling brave and trustworthy, there is valet parking as well.
There is a spacious function room upstairs and downstairs - for privacy and it doesn't bother folks that are dining on the main floor.
The roasted chicken has been consistently good. Pretty juicy and the while the seasoning tends to be mainly just on the skin, it is pretty savory. If you took the skin off to eat the chicken, I am not sure there would be a lot of flavor. The mashed potatoes were creamy and there seemed to be a hint of parmesan cheese...I love cheese so this was a bonus. The roasted vegetables which were a combination of beans and squash and zucchini, where cut julienne style and were cooked just enough were they tasted fresh with a little snap, not mushy at all. Bread - salad, were fine, nothing to really write about.
The service was very attentive. Be sure to have them stock non-domestic beer, otherwise the bartender will have to abandon his post to run to the other side of the restaurant "City-Side" to get the "better" beer in my opinion. This happened to me and left me apologizing to the line that grew behind me :) But they too were excited when he came back with Trinity IPA and PALM beer as alternatives to the standard domestic beers, Miller Lite and Bud.
I don't understand River Falls, Â I have had good food, okay food, and not so good food here. Â It's not consistent at all. Â We've been to several events here and those have been pretty good. Â I think maybe they try to do too many things - Mama Glock's chicken, Bubba Gump Shrimp, Comfort Food, etc. Â and end up not doing any single one exceptionally well. Â
Service has always been very good though! They have lots of fun/different cocktails.
It's hit or miss plain and simple. I only go on Thursday but i know it's usually of an older crown on the weekends. I have never been so i cant confirm for sure if it is or not. The place is really nice, it has a huge square bar with plenty of seating. they also have an upstairs with more bars and seating. They have bands play from Thur-sat. Honestly most of the bands they book are really good at least i always enjoy them
Best thing about the place is the half off drinks on Wednesday and Thursday. Cant beat the deal, doesn't matter what you order half off. which is awesome. You can have a good time for really cheap. But it does get packed at times on these nights. they do charge a cover on Thursday 5 bucks after 9.
overall its a good place cheap drinks good music. As long as your with good company you will be alright.
Went with the family (8 of us) for various birthday celebrations. Overall pretty impressed! Service was a little lacking, but otherwise a great time. I had one of the specials, crab ravioli and it was great! Everyone else really enjoyed their meals as well and everything on the menu is very resonably priced. It's not the most amazing food I have ever had but its good portions and consistent! We will be back!
Review Source:The first few times we stopped by we ate at the bar. Â The dining room is large, but very dark and a little dingy looking. Â Food is good, although service can sometimes be a bit slow. Â They do manage to keep a good selection of beers on tap, and always have seasonal choices available.
Review Source:I came here for three different parties and the food was below average each time. For example, the pasta was mushy and the sauce was a step above ketchup. I'm not sure why it is labeled as an Italian restaurant. Another time, I had a pizza which was obviously frozen and not made on site. I've had better pizza at United Skates of America when I was 11.
After one of the parties, we headed into the bar area which is very large. There was a band playing that was pretty good. Lots of people from 1989 were there that night... Nice to people watch.
I only come here when people invite me to parties and I'm dragged here. And now, I eat before I come.
I just went here with my grandparents and it was actually pretty good. Their menu is huge! I had a pizza but both grandparents liked their meals as well. Â The waiter was SO nice and probably one of the nicest waiters I've ever had. Â
The ambiance and decor were pretty nice also, especially considering it's in Woonsocket. Â Definitely worth checking out - they have some specials on certain nights of the week that seem like good deals, too.
I attended a baby shower in the lower floor of River Falls yesterday afternoon. Â This is a beautiful and HUGE stone building, I was really impressed with the size of this place.
Upon entering the building, you are on the main floor. Â I peeked around to see plenty of seating and a very dark, modern decor. Â
We walked down a flight of slippery stairs (careful if you're wearing heels ladies!) to the lower section of the restaurant. Â It was open and sheik. Â Lots of windows and two doors to the outside. Â One of the doors was to the back of the building facing the river and I noticed a wooden swing a few steps away, although I'm not 100% sure this is River Falls Restaurant property. Â
We were served a breakfest buffett; it was okay. Â It was breakfast food, so I mean it's not hard to screw up. Â We were offered pastries, scrambled eggs, a spinach quiche, homefries (regular potato and sweet potato,) bacon, french toast and white toast.
I have no complaints on this place and in fact, I'm interested in going back to check out their regular menu. Â When we left the baby shower and walked back upstairs to the main floor, the placed was packed and it was only a little past noon. Â I noticed patrons even seated in the waiting area.
Whatever the kitchen was cooking smelled really wonderful; lots of seafood, which is a-okay in my book!
My wife, 2 year old and I had dinner here on 3/9/12. Â We arrived around 6pm and there was surprisingly no wait. Â The dining room was very clean and the cushioned chairs were very comfortable. Â There were other families with young children as well and my boy was happy when they gave him some crayons and a kids menu he could color. Â
There were many menu choices that sounded appealing and the prices were surprisingly low for the quality of food served. Â
I ordered one of their unusual combination plates the teriyaki steak tips and fried scallops ($14.99). Â It came with a choice of side and I chose the vegetable risotto. Â The steak tips were amazing. Â I asked for them to be cooked medium to medium well and they came out cooked perfectly for me. Â I could have cut them with a fork they were so tender and the flavor was wonderful. Â The bay scallops were cooked perfectly as well. Â They were fried but not greasy at all and the tartar sauce was good too, I prefer dill flavor over sweet flavor when it comes to tartar sauce and it was perfect. Â The vegetable risotto was extremely good. Â It wasn't just a side it really stood out on its own flavor wise. Â I couldn't stop eating it was so good. Â When my wife finished her stuffed sole ( which she loved also) she started picking from my plate and couldn't believe how good it was.
Our waiter was great and we ended up tipping 30% we were so happy with our experience there. Â We will definitely go back again and again.
I saw some of the reviews on here were for the club part of this place and it's too bad they lower the star average for the restaurant. Â it really deserves a separate higher rating. We didn't even see any part of the club area the restaurant seems to be separate.
Went there 2 weeks in a row on Sunday's for the Ma Glockner's chicken.
It was just as we remembered it, Sticky buns and all. This makes it worth the trip.
Very nice decor. We arrived about 2 pm sunday there was a bit of a wait, but the line moved very fast. Â Thanks again River Falls for bring back Ma's chicken.
See you next Sunday!!
River Falls is a diamond in the rough among the other dining choices in Woonsocket. Â I've been a couple of times now, and have been pretty happy with the experiences. Â One thing I will say as a criticism is the food can be a little bit pricey for what it is. Â Everything I've had there has been good, but nothing spectacular, and we're typically out at least $50 after all is said and done. Â Would I drive out of my way to go here? Â Probably not. Â But we find ourselves in the area often enough that I'm sure I'll be returning again. Â And that's fine by me.
I've also helped plan a bridal shower that was held in their downstairs hall, which was a positive experience. Â They were very accommodating and allowed us to come in early to decorate. Â The hall is very nice, with stone walls and a view of the falls outside. Â The buffet style breakfast was hearty and tasty. Â The mother of the bride paid for the rental, so I can't comment on the price, but I would look into renting the hall again if the opportunity arose.
I've never eaten at City Side, just have enjoyed their night time atmosphere. Fun, great bands, I am not a local and seem to fit in great when I go. Â If you want to dance your ass off and not care about what anyone thinks, make a stop at City Side. Drink prices can be expensive, but no more then anywhere else. The dance area can get a little tight, but the bar is a good size!
Review Source:On this trip to River Falls, I made the trip to see Sweet Tooth and the Sugarbabies, an awesome local band.
The place is perfect for live music. Plenty of seating, big dance floor, lots of space, big bar, lots of tvs. Of course, having an amazing band helps : )
The staff is very friendly. From the bouncer to the bartender to the waitstaff. Huge points here because the crowd at Riverfalls is very interesting. Lots of questionable characters. The kind of people I would expect would cause problems (i.e. drunks, creepers, hot messes). I hear the crowd is much better on the weekend.
If ST&SB are performing, it's worth the trip no matter the crowd!
Riverfalls is a casual, yet refined restaurant with an upscale feel. It is arguabley the nicest restaurant around woonsocket. They always have fantastic daily, and monthly specials, and great beer specials. I recommend their stuffed quohog and chowder combo. It is great for lunch, dinner, or as an appetizer. Make sure to check out the late night scene next door at City.
Review Source:Went to River Falls for a retirement party in the downstairs room, which has a small bar and is spacious for small groups. Parking is strange, but the outside of the building is beautiful and inviting. Really, I could not believe this was in Woonsocket. The boys at the door were all polite and reserved, and the inside staff was helpful. The food was much better than I expected. There's a restaurant upstairs and a dance club with a live cover band is attached, although separate from the restaurant. It was a nice surprise. Next time I'll have to take a picture of the building.
Review Source:Great atmosphere! My husband and I tried this Restaurant on a Friday night around 7pm. We were expecting it to be hopping. We were surprised that we were seated immediately. The tables are large, comfortable and welcoming. They offer many specials varying among days and have something for everyone. The seafood menu is complete with everything from lobsters to scallops. Our waitress suggested the Honolulu Burger which is a treiyaki smothered burger, topped with a slice of pineapple and served with your choice of sides. Two meals under 30 dollars. We'll definitely be heading back.
Review Source:A Boston band I know lured me to River Falls/Cityside this past weekend to see them play. I have actually known of this place for a while but hadn't yet had the chance to get out there. We had a great night, but I think a lot of that had more to do with the band than the establishment. So, one point for River Falls: booking great live entertainment.
The bar here is huge, and we had no problem finding a seat early on and ordering drinks, but as the night went on, bar service got a little slow -- despite low volume for a Friday night. Drinks prices were reasonable: pint of Sam Summer on draft was $4.50, and I got sodas for my pregnant friend on the house.
There was a large dance floor, and since there weren't many people out, we had more than enough room to get our groove on -- which I always appreciate.
I wish I had the chance to try the food. The restaurant was spacious and clean.
River Falls is located right in downtown Woonsocket with a decent parking lot and free valet parking. I was told Thursday nights are half-price and people flock for cheap food.
In a city like Woonsocket it's sad that a place as high profile as this needs to be so lousy.
Last time I went here we were just looking for dinner and drinks after work on a Tuesday. Mistake.
The place sounded like a cafeteria, the staff was running around aimlessly, and I was fortunate to have the owner/manager? siting behind me with his screaming baby and his kitchen staff running out complaining to him every 3 mins. lol
My first beer took 15 mins(i watched it sit at the bar). Menu options are standard. I went with the Shrimpapolooza where you can order a couple of dishes per person. You get a choice of maybe 20 dishes with either shrimp, salmon, scallops. Sounds brilliant. I started with the Baked Stuffed Shrimp. It was a bowl of stale crackers with some small/medium shrimp on top. My girl ordered Chicken Florentine on risotto. Should have said "Bowl full of chicken n spinach mush". Can't complain about the food being cold cuz it got plenty of time under the heat lamp.
Fortunately, I was still in my Shrimpapolooza. Having failed the first time I thought I would go with the bay scallops on penne alfredo. Nope. That was a typo the waitress said. I can only choose a dish with shrimp. Fine. I will have Shrimp Alfredo. Out came my dish. Linguine with the same sm/med shrimp from before and this time everything is sitting in what looks and taste like 2% milk(not even Garelick's either). Another fail.
Lastly, we ordered a cheeseburger to take home for grandpa(gotta look out for pepere). We opened the container to get a bite of the pickle. Tastes like fresh grass dipped in poison. Lesson learned.
All in all sad. The draught beers are nice, the riesling came out of the bottle. Â 2 hours and $75.
Vintage is right across the street. Go there. I've been a dozen times and they have a half price entree on both Tues and Wed without the compromise.
We had a lovely time, for the most part, at River Falls. We ate on the "lounge" part - Cityside - and we all really liked the ambiance. It was close to the bar and pretty crowded, but not so loud that we needed to shout to have a conversation.
Service was pretty slow. Maybe unique to our server. Drinks took a long time to get to the table. The other side - the "restaurant" side - might have had more quality service. Just a theory.
The food was pretty solid though. Most of us were pretty happy with it. I don't make it to Woonsocket all that often, but I'd definitely recommend it to someone looking for a night out. Plus it's a local, independent business, not Applebee's or Friday's or the Olive Garden.
My recommendation for River Falls: DON'T GO HERE!
You are better off staying home or going anywhere else. Our food was either overcooked, cold or bland. Our server could have cared less. She was rude and service was painfully slow (with the excepton of the check).
I ended up e-mailing the two "managers" on the website and never heard back. For the $90 we spent here we would have had a lot more fun and a much better meal closer to home for half as much.
The one star is for the parking space we landed close to the door. It was the best part of River Falls.
I have two issues with River Falls: Â the management/host and the food.
I'll begin with the food. Â For northern Rhode Island dining, the prices are high for the quality of food. Â I would recommend venturing a few miles into Massachusetts or to downtown Providence for better food with the same prices. Â The steaks were nothing special (I make a better filet mignon on my own grill). Â The crab cake had a decent mix of filler and crab. Â The baked scrod was slightly overcooked. Â The prime rib had a nice flavor although it was accompanied by a dipping sauce that resembled sour cream. Â I would have given River Falls 3 stars based on food alone.
But I didn't get take out, so the rest of this review is about the management and hosts at River Falls. Â When I arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday night, I was told that there was a 30-45 minute wait. Â I would have gone to City Side (the pub area of the complex) if I wasn't with my family who were looking for a nice meal. Â As we waited 30 minutes, I noticed people with reservations would just walk up to the host stand and be seated before us. Â After 45 minutes of waiting, I asked the host how much longer and was told there were 2 groups in front of me. Â More people with reservations came in and were seated. Â After 1 hour and 15 minutes, I was told that we were next on the list. Â After 1 hour and 40 minutes, I almost went crazy. Â Obviously, I understand that reservations should be seated before walk-ins--but at what point do the walk-ins have a shot at sitting down? Â The host would have been better off to have informed my party that the restaurant was booked solid with reservations for the night. Â The manager finally came to the host stand to find my group a table--but that was it, no sorry, no let me comp you a drink--nothing.
So my advice--make a reservation, don't have high expectations, and if you walk in and there is a line--walk outside and call the host for a reservation--you will get seated faster.
River Falls is an outstanding addition to the Woonsocket area. Located on the opposite side of the bridge from the waterfall that gave the town its name, it would command a spectacular view of the river if the stone walls of the building weren't so very thick, and if the deep-set windows weren't so relatively high and narrow. If they could have a deck built overhanging the river, the view of the river would be absolutely incredible - but their prices would probably have to go up, I suppose.
In any case, the food is *excellent* (I'd boldface that word, if HTML could be used here on Yelp). We've been there quite a few times, and we've never been disappointed. Their prime rib in particular is outstanding - large and perfectly cooked - but we've tried many different meals there, and not ONE has been less than satisfactory or excellent.
Prices are quite reasonable. On Wednesday nights, there's a special offer: two full meals (from a list of ten to twelve different entrees), including salad (or soup, I think), plus a bottle of wine or pitcher of beer, desserts, and coffee for $30 (not including tip or, I think, tax - but it's still a great deal). That's $30 for two people, which is a very good deal indeed - but if you don't drink, you can eat for even less there on other days, depending on what you order. One drawback to the Wednesday deal: the included desserts are a bit meager, and the choice is limited.
Speaking of desserts, the full-sized ones are not to be missed. They have a banana cheesecake ("Zhango", if I remember correctly) fried in a cinnamon tortilla shell that my wife raves about. And their sundae on a large fresh-baked hot chocolate chip cookie is VERY memorable, as long as you're careful not to burn yourself on the little cast-iron skillet that it comes in! It also comes with a trivet or pot-holder.
Service is always excellent. The ambiance and decor are quite pleasant, in a slightly dark, adult sense - not that children aren't welcome. In fact, they also have a family night. But this is not a typical "family" restaurant with bright lighting and an open layout. It's definitely a cut above that.
The place has an interesting history, from what I've heard. At least some of the staff used to work at the "Box Seats" in Woonsocket that closed a year or two ago. The restaurant that opened in the former Box Seats location closed fairly quickly, and has now re-opened under the old name. I don't know if it's being run by the same people, though.
River Falls has picked up on one of the nicer features that Box Seats had, by offering unlimited soup - although that might only come with certain meals, I'm not sure. They also managed to add to their menu the authentic berched chicken that used to be served at the famous but now-closed Ma Glockner's Restaurant, although that's available on Sundays only.
All in all, River Falls is a top-notch restaurant, well worth repeated visits.
Tried this recently for the second time, and must say I am still impressed. River Falls is located in an old mill/warehouse building, on the end of Main Street in Woonsocket. The hostess was nice enough to give us a tour when we asked, so I got to see the whole thing.
There are river and 'falls' views on both sides of the dining room which is nice to look at if you get a table by the window. The main level has a smaller bar and a the main dining room. Upstairs is a much larger bar and a dance-floor for when they have entertainment on the weekend. The schedule on their website says they have karaoke on most Thursdays. :)There's a function room downstairs with another bar and even more amazing river views.
The food was good. The first time we went the had just opened, so we were expecting them to still be working out the kinks. The waitress was really professional and knowledgeable. I got the blackened chicken alfredo, which was delicious.
Their website leaves a bit to be desired but I did just notice two things that are worth mentioning - they have a special on Wednesdays ("Dinner for Two for $30) which includes soup, salad, entree, bottle of wine, coffee AND dessert. That seems like a ppprrretty good deal to moi! And also FYI, it looks like they are closed on Mondays.
I recently went to Riverfalls Resturant and Lounge with some friends of ours who live in Woonsocket and were very pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere.
I had the Thai Salmon...delicious!!
I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal at a considerably reasonable price...about $100 for 4 people.
