I came to The River House with a group of friends from out of town. We were catching the water taxi and had some time to kill; so we did what we normally do get DRINKS. Upon entering this establishment I noticed the summer locals who frequent often giving us the stink eye...yes I said it "the stink eye". I guess you could tell we weren't from around the area because we were a much more relaxed crew that wasn't dress to impress. It didn't bother me at all I was there to have fun and enjoy my evening. We ordered our first round of drinks by the back patio bar where the O's and Yankees were playing on some TVs. The bar service was great, quick, and satisfying. We then decided to take our drinks and move closer to the water and get a glimpse of the view. It is a great view I even got to catch a few fireworks going off for the post 4th of July celebrations.
I decided it was time to take a seat at the well constructed outside bar, boy is it beautiful the stone work the counter top and the lights, it really sets the mood for a fun summer night. A few of my friends and I had no problem at all getting a seat since we asked politely and still got stinky eye stares like we didn't belong. We finished our first drinks and ordered a second round with success even though the bar was pretty crowded. A few moment after enjoying a few sips of our drinks it was time to go the water taxi was on it's way, so we quickly finished our drinks, closed our tabs, and were on our way.
Although I didn't have a meal at The River House I was fond of the establishment itself, if I get a chance to come back I will be sure to try some of the food and write a worthy review that hopefully does not include the term "stink eye". I feel that the customers are the ones that may put a sour taste in some peoples mouths not the actual food. Until next time.

Tried this place 5 times in the last couple of months. We go in for happy hour at the bar which is advertised as everyday of the week. One bartender has waited on us on 2 Saturdays. Twice she charged us regular prices. We had to remind her of happy hour. She said she wasn't told. While the staff is great here the food is not. Have tried different things and the meals are served not as they are described on the menu. I have never gotten coleslaw with a sandwich or burger. My daughter orders sushi which she says is not very good. Shame. I think it's very possible I'll be seeing theses personable bartenders at another establishment before the summer begins.

Nice location, beautiful view and setting, but the food leaves much to be desired. Came here for a wedding, and everything was great except the food.

I would like to give 3 1/2 stars but that's not possible! Anyways, I've been here twice with my boyfriend and needless to say I wasn't disappointed since I came back! The view is awesome- right on the bay. Definitely a good scene for either a date or a night out with friends. The bar had a nice set up; right by the water with a few tvs.

Overall, the food was okay. Not horrible by any means but not fabulous. The prices are reasonable especially for the nice location.

Perks: location, easy parking, scene, full bar, fast service, filling plates, decent prices

Not the perks: the food- not spectular but still good.

Go for the view/ atmosphere first, then the food. I will be back next summer!

Best thing about the place is the view and that it has an outside deck. The food although OK along with the drinks are overpriced (like Manhattan prices! What are they thinking?). Usually have some live entertainment... tends to be an older crowd.
Worth having at least a drink or two at.

I will never be eating here again. The atmosphere is nice and all, but we came here for lunch one day and left after the appetizers. It was here that I ate the worst Tuna Sashimi of my life. It was in a shape that looked like it was plopped out of a can. I have seen cat food that has looked more appetizing, and probably better tasting. We got a heaping mound of Fried Calamari as well, except that most of it was the fried bready part and not the actual calamari. We were SO disappointed. We should have refused to pay for it, it was that bad. I wish I had taken a picture of the Tuna app as evidence of the atrocity.

Mothers Day 2012 brunch. Well organized and friendly. Beautiful views. Food was good. Nothing I would consider outstanding but all well prepared. Serving trays emptied quickly but refills were fast.  Most of the plates were filthy from the night before but it appeared to have been addressed quickly. No omelet station but made to order in back. Overall a decent experience but pricey.

Wonderful setting overlooking the Manasquan inlet. Limited menu but consistently good.  The Lava Cake is a must..... be high my friend

Good food, very nice atmosphere. I sat on the deck on the water and got a Brielle Chicken sandwich, french onion soup, and a pina colada. Everything was great. The menu itself didn't have the biggest selection, but that didn't bother me because the choices all sounded good.

This place has a really great location.  Big windows make the inside bright/inviting.  I like the decor inside.  The food prices are reasonable (you can have a delicious $12 chicken sandwich at dinner).  The consensus at my table was that the food was pretty good, not great; however, overall, we were very glad we chose to eat here.

Also, they have a children's menu and the service was excellent.

We went on a busy Saturday night, so perhaps the food and weak service reflects that.  Do NOT order the calamari.  It was rubbery and actually smelled like old oil.   The "marinara" had less taste than ketchup.  The crab cakes were dry and had no flavor. Our waitress was nice, but when somebody else brought us our dinner plates, he served them like he was passing out frisbees rather than a $25 entree.   Note to wait staff:  you may need to walk around to the customers to serve them.   Great view but food was horrible.

The best part is the view, everything else is blah.  Went here for dinner and drinks after playing volley ball on the beach Wednesday night.  We sat outside, which has an amazing view of the river.  The beer selection was LACKING.  No draft, just your run of the mill everyday bottled beers.  The food was decent.  I had a cheese burger, which came on a nice bun, and the fries were yummy too.  My girlfriend ordered some sushi, and she wasn't impressed.  The prices of the sandwiches were reasonable, but i was a bit shocked at the variance in price between the $10 sandwiches and the $30 entrees.  There was no inbetween.  The service was very good.

Nice atmosphere, I suppose, but the food isn't too amazing. The fried calamari appetizer was decent, but my stuffed chicken was pretty unmemorable. The breading on the outside was okay as was the actual chicken itself, but the stuffing (various vegetables and some mozzarella cheese, I believe) was decidedly "meh" and lacked any sort of defining taste whatsoever. I couldn't really taste it very much if at all. There's also apparently a sushi menu, but I don't think any of it's made fresh there. Be warned.

Had dinner at the River House in Brielle, NJ after spending 2 weeks in Manasquan. The place has a great atmosphere. Kind of an older crowd. But they have 3 outside bars, and an expansive view of water. Very cool scene. Watched the Yankee game at the bar, drank a manhattan, talked with friends and soaked in the atmosphere. Good times. And the menu is terrific - crabcakes, chowders, salads (had the ceasar, it was excellent), lobsters, steaks, clams, etc. Well - everything was great up until the main courses. The apps were solid - shared some raw oysters (average, a little grit), crabcake (awesome), baked clams (tasty), ahi tuna (great) and of course, lord ceasar, which was the best i've had in awhile. The main courses....oh boy....my filet was ok, but it came with a merlot sauce, which i overlooked on the menu. I don't know about you, but i like my filets on their own, nothing but a glass of red wine to drink along the way. Then my buddy had to return his lobster twice for being undercooked. They actually never ended up getting it right, which was too bad. The strip steaks were solid, but a little too salty. But the 3-lb baked lobster my other friend ordered was solid. Had 2 giant claws, very tasty. Then dessert - lava cake (good), key lime pie (good), N.Y. cheesecake (bad). They covered 2 of the 3 desserts because of the bad lobster experience. All in all - a really great-looking place, outside breezy feel and great interior, top-notch service, and great sounding menu. But our meal was uneven, which was unfortunate. I'll give it another chance. Next year.
