i would give this a zero rating but its not possible. its not just cabin 5 its all of them!! Â we were in cabin 2 on july 4th and 5th 2013. Â we were told that we had a refund for july 6th because there was no way we could stay in those disgusting surroundings any longer. Â but the manager, a fairly large long brown haired woman flat out lied to me. Â her word is not her bond. Â so we paid $300 to stay in a room for 2 miserable nights that i had to sweep the bird shit and mouse shit up, good thing i had a broom with me. Â obtain bleach wipes from walmart to clean the room and floor and anything else you might touch on a regular bases and it wasnt just the room. i had to clean the bathroom before i would use it. the girls bathroom was so bad, (toilet broke, had to reach into the tank to flush it) that i used the mens bathroom the rest of the trip, had to clean that too. Â lets talk about the disgusting mattress omg!! Â good thing i had the air mattress in the trunk, aired that up and slept on it. Â if you have any intensions of sleeping late , you can blow that off because there are 3 roosters (that aparently wanted their coup back) that will wake you up at around 530am, oh yes i told you it got better.. Â be prepared to clean the ac filter or you will end up sick. Â unfortunatly thats the one thing i didnt clean because i didnt have any duct tape to put it back together with.
Review Source:Great live music venue outside the city. I can only comment on my experience from being there when a show was held in doors. This place has a small indoor stage and outside a large outdoor stage with a large cement slab and terraced grass area but the whole place is in a casual/relaxed setting.
The cover was reasonable and the drinks were cheap. The place wasn't too full when I was there but I heard when a big name comes through the joint gets packed. I will definitely return.
I used to come here often to see great Texas Music artists back when I was in college at Texas State ('01 - '06). I've seen many artists throughout the years such as Cross Canadian, Reckless Kelly, Stoney LaRue, even David Allen Coe. I even worked here one summer and really enjoyed it.
Sadly, this place just isn't what it used to be. I came here last Saturday night with my brother and a small group to see Midnight River Choir play. The band was great. Those guys are awesome musicians. There was a pretty small crowd there to see the show. I felt bad for the band honestly.
Looking at the website, I have no idea who any of those artists are that are playing in the near future. I feel for the owners, it's got to be hard to get crowds way out there without the big names to bring people in. That being said they could definitely do some improvements so that people that live in New Braunfels would want to hang out there, big names or not. They could be making money all year round. There are a million apartments popping up all around the area probably with plenty of people who would come drink there.
First of all I think their beer selection sucks. At least have Blue Moon or some kind of Hefeweizen. Also where is my favorite Shiner Ruby Redbird? It's that time of year and you have some other Shiner options, but not the current one?
They also used to serve food. Food would have made me stay longer and spend more money. I ate dinner at 5 and was hungry by midnight. I definitely would have ordered something if they had it. Instead we left and went home. Get it together guys... I want you to succeed!!
My favorite beer joint in New Braunfels. The is place is 1/2 mile from my job and I stop several times a week after work for a few. Brooke, PJ, Jeremy, and Nick are awesome. New owners, new management, good people. This place is a must for tourists and locals. If PJ is working ask for a PJuice. No food, except for Mean Gene's Pizza... sometimes. Also, there are bags of chips and chex mix of questionable age. Smokes are $8, so stock up before you head down River Road.
Review Source:Love love love River rd! Â I have many many fond memories along river rd on the Guadalupe, and at River rd Icehouse.
Prices are reasonable for the concerts, the last one we attended was Pat Green and only $20!
The place can get crowded, but what hill country dancehall venue doesn't? Â
My only complaint (and it really isn't against River rd) is how crazy stupid drunk some people get at this place! Â Our last visit, we had two girls just beyond wasted next to us, and one even threw a beer bottle at the bartender!! Â Thankfully the staff had no tolerance for that, and threw them out!
The votes are in, and it appears that River Road Icehouse is indeed a great place for a good ole South Texas concert!
Plenty of space, food, and beer - what more could you ask for?
They have an indoor stage and dance floor for the smaller shows and a big outdoor stage for the larger concerts. Â There are several bars and food booths scattered around the property and inside.
For the larger concerts, you have your choice of general admission or VIP for about $10 more. Â If you want a place to sit down and get away from the crowd for a while, then get the VIP - but I don't think it gets you much more than that and shorter beer lines.
If you didn't spring for the VIP but need a break from the crowd, mosey on up to what I call "the hill." Â It's a grassy area away from the stage - they have a couple of bars and you can still see and hear the concert from here - but it's not as crowded and you can sit on the grass if you want to.
DANGER: Â When the closest parking lot gets full, you have to park in a lot about 50-100 yards away. Â It's not a long walk, but it is a dangerous walk for the following reasons:
It's gravel, and has a couple of steep inclines and dips in a couple of spots. Â Remember, this place is on the river and there is not a lot of light around to see where you are going.
For some reason, the night we went, they also had string tied between two stakes in the ground to mark the parking spots. Â It was dark and you had to watch out to not trip on each parking row as you made your way through.
Once you get out of the parking lot, you have to walk along River Road with practically no shoulder to walk on - keep in mind, it's dark and there is a lot of traffic leaving the river (these people have probably been drinking all day). Â This is not a safe road to walk on.
A couple of quick tips for ya:
Ladies: Â leave the high heals at home - you're gonna hurt yourself if you don't. Â We saw a lot of them trying to get down the hill out of the parking lot - save yourself some time - wear boots.
A lot of people hit this place after a day on the river - if you do, you shouldn't come here wearing flip flops - at the end of the night there were a lot of broken beer bottles on the ground.
Cash only - no credit cards accepted at the bars - domestic bottled beer is $4
Parking is $5
Dear River Road Icehouse...
You are awesome and put a smile on my face when I had to spend two months in Texas last summer. Nothing better than floating the river and then listening to my favorites play live all night. Wade Bowen and Sean Mcconnell were two of my favorites. Living in Hawaii I miss the country...thanks for giving some of that back to me. I promise I'll be back next time I'm lucky enough to be in Texas!!
Nothing beats floating the river with your buddies then watching a great show at River Road!! Â These two things truly capture what it means enjoy south Texas!!! Â You can rent tubes and use their shuttle service to and from the river. Â They even have cabins you can rent so you don't have to make that eventual drive back to s.a. in the wee hours of the night! Â Check out their website for upcoming shows!!!
