We have been here in the past and never come away pleased, but decided to give it another chance. We went for dinner at 5:00. The first thing wrong is that it is always soooo noisy in here. The hostess greeted us and gave us a table right away, but then we sat there and sat there. After five minutes passed, the hostess got up and headed our way. I thought, Oh, good, she's going to take our drink orders or at least explain that the wait staff is busy. NOPE, she just smiled as she strolled on by. So we got up and left and will never return.
Review Source:Nice ambiance. Â Wonderful place to meet up with friends, drink, and hangout. Â Service by the staff has always been fine so no complaints there.
Have had dinner at RJ's twice with my wife. Â Both times the food has been adequate. Â There is nothing that I would recommend to try. Â The food is not bad. Â I just prefer going elsewhere for meals.
This is definitely a fine place to have drinks with friends and family though.
Stopped in tonight for a quick, light dinner.  With a 3-day head cold, I was searching for a cure.  The boneless "burn your mouth" style wings was just what was needed.  Cleared me up immediately.  I sat at the bar.  Excellent service including two managers checking on my service.  The bartender kept her eye on my pink lemonade, keeping it topped off.  When she sensed I was ready to go, she presented the bill as we conversed.  Without breaking discussion I slide the cash in and hand it back.  Pleasant surprise for under $6.  Better and healthier than fast food and then there's the whole feeling of this is the place where  everybody knows  your  name and they're always glad you came.  Seriously, seem to have hit the right music mix at the perfect volume for a change making conversation possible.
Review Source:If I had a chance to own a restaurant it would be along the lines of RJ's. They seem to have a winning formula. I've always felt very comfortable there. There service is always great. The food is awesome and the Beer is cold. The patrons are also friendly. The music is great. They have numerous TV's showing sporting events and on Thursday they have a radio station there handing out prizes to lucky winners. Its overall fun with delicious food. I usually order wings and their kabobs. The portions are very good for the price. They make good use of their space as far as decor and seating. I can always count on a good time when coming here. Thank You RJ's for being a model restaurant for other spots to try and live up to. You are well deserving of 5 Stars.
Review Source:If I could give RJ's a minus 5 right now I would. The typical okay service we normally get went to crap when my husband and 10 of his co-workers decided to go there for their monthly gathering. Aside from it taking an hour to get a bowl of soup .. YES SOUP .. the restaurant was under staffed and unprepared for a what they know is always one of the busiest nights of the week during football season. What was most irritating to my husband was their blatant disregard for not even acknowledging they had customers waiting for food and WATER. Not special water. Just your normal tap water. After reading the write up in Bakersfield Life about RJ's, I just about fell over laughing. They do not take pride in training their servers on how to provide exceptional customer service. Not once did any of them stop by to check and see how they were doing. Even the manager was too busy schmoozing up to another table to even pay attention. Come to find out ... after the hour had passed, the waitress NEVER even PUT THE ORDER IN after repeatedly passing by saying "Your food will be right out", not even stopping to check on anything else. Hmmm ... awesome training.
Review Source:I really enjoy RJ's for lunch.
My friend Bob and I go to RJ's when I am on his side of town and every time the food has been really good. Their dishes are always fresh tasting and well presented. On this round I got the California Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich was really, really tasty, and they don't short you on the size of the chicken breast. They serve crinkle cut style fries with their dishes. I always here people complain about crinkle cut fries, not me, I love them! The service is always good and they have a manager making the rounds and checking with the customers to make sure everything is satisfactory (very good tactic).
I have not been to RJ's for dinner yet, but so far as a lunch place it's pretty darn good.
Sweet spot for a great Sunday breakfast after a long night out! I had an amazing chili verde omelet. It was served with fresh pepper jack cheese and a side of golden potatoes with toast. This definitely hit the spot and cured the morning hangover. Â
The server was very nice with good service; although she was very slow with attending to our tables needs.
I would like to come back for the night life here to check it out. It looks like it could be a fun biker bar.
This is the place to go if you want good food, great customer service and entertainment. Â Great Tortalini, sauce and black chicken has a wonderful taste that will have you licking your plate.
The people come to your table and treat you like family, haven't had that kind of service since I was seated at home and catered by my wonderful Mother.
If you haven't been, go. Â If you have go back again, I am sure this will be a regular place for me!
It's about time a place has gotten the idea that it is about the customer.
I had the black chicken tortellini and my wife had the top sirloin. Â They were excellent!
I've had many things from RJ's and have never had a bad meal. Â The steaks are great, the pasta is fantastic, the sandwiches are good - there is something for everyone. Â The only thing negative I could say is that it is somewhat small and the service is not the fastest around. If you are looking for a quick bite, you should let them know.
You can't go wrong here.
The food is great there. I've eaten there three times. I had a great server she's the kind of server everyone wants. The food was a 10 the manager Paul is so sweet. Thanks for the great food and service. I think my servers name is Carly. You may want to ask for her. I'll see you soon thanks again. Try the Rib eye.
Review Source:What is different RJ's??? Â Something has changed! Have to say this was the first bad meal we have had here. It was awful. Been here many times but this time both my husbands' and my dinner very bad. He had chicken coredon bleu and said it tasted frozen, reheated, potatoes greasy, veggies overdone. My french dip meat seemed cheap, tough, and tasteless. The only good thing we were served was our drinks :-(
Review Source:A bunch of us came here for lunch. Â It was pretty crowded. Â A sports game was on, so it was pretty loud. So much so that it made conversation difficult, but that's to be expected during a game. Â I ordered the blue cheese burger. Â It was huge! Â It was so yummy! Â It came with fries which were average. Â My husband ordered the hot italian? sandwhich. He was raving about it for quite some time! Â Service was great, we had multiple people checking on us several times, but they weren't too pushy. We noticed that alot of people seemed to know each other. We will def return for more game days. Â Food was great. Â I will def try dinner too.
Review Source:It's a sports bar. Â Place was packed when we visited on a Friday night. Â We were seated at the last table. Â The first thing we noticed was the range on ages. Â Whole families, young couples, silver haired gentlemen and more. Â
I had "Fish and Chips" and it was excellent and served with fries and slaw. Â Service was very prompt and friendly, almost too friendly. Â
The restaurant is loud, but it's a sports bar. Â We did have a very loud drunk table next to us. Â A constant flow of the f-word and an argument was not fun, but the dude finally went outside. Â The place was a bit of a frat club. Â
We did not have a drink but the bar was well equipped.
We popped in here for an early dinner. Â The previous week we'd tried to get in at a more "dinner like" hour but the wait would have been more than we were willing to put up with. Â I'd been here before several years ago and didn't remember being too impressed; but I have to say this visit was good. Â The food was excellent, service was great and it had a nice "vibe" to it with a mix of clientele and televisions that you didn't have to shout over. Â Also a plus, they have a competent selection of wine at prices that don't leave you feeling taken advantage of. Â I can see why the place get so busy.
Review Source:Sunday morning for breakfast....No room inside so were seated in patio section. Â Waited 20min before a waitress came to table. Â Seemed like serving outside was a real struggle for the staff. Â Lacked coordination. Â
Food for our table of 5 was just so, so. Â Eggs overcooked for one, undercooked for another. Â Potatoes were obviously not fresh. Â Coffee ..... Better go elsewhere if coffee is important to you. Â
This was my first and last visit.
I have only been here in the evening/late night hours for drinks. Â I went there after work and dinner elsewhere with some coworkers, still dressed from work, and we didn't feel overdressed or out of place. I've never tried the food.
The drinks were good. Â Within our group, people ordered beer, mixed drinks, and shots. Â Everyone in the group was happy with their drinks; certainly nobody complained. Â They weren't unreasonable priced, either. Â They had several televisions going blaring music videos, but it wasn't too loud to talk over, and talk we did - on into the wee hours. Â Every once in a while a song we all liked came on and we'd all stop to sing along or reminisce. Â
We were too wrapped up in visiting within our own group so I couldn't really tell you if the other clientele were old friends like us or people trying to hook up. Â Whatever they were doing, it wasn't obtrusive.
All in all a pleasant environment for a get together of friends.
I've read other posts that say this place has multiple personalities; that is so true! Sarah E.'s statement that it changes at 9pm is fairly accurate on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Whenever I've been there for a late meal, I see lots of guys that obviously like lifting weights at the gym to make their biceps large and I'd be willing to bet some of them use steroids to get their "look," too. As for the women, it can be impressive as to how scandalous some of them will dress. Most of the women appear to be late 20s to early 40s, also gym-goers or bulimics, many appear to have fake breasts and like to flaunt what their ex-husbands have paid for (or perhaps they're still married, who knows?) Can this culture be blamed on the restaurant's management? I don't know, but I do know that I'd rather not participate in it. If that's your style, then you should definitely go, the same people have been there each and every time I've ever gone (which is a handful of times over the past few years.)
As for the restaurant itself, they do have some decent steaks. I ordered a Filet Mignon there the last time I went. I liked it a lot. I don't recall enjoying their side dishes, though. On other adventures here, I've ordered nachos and other appetizers and each has been pretty tasty. I think the restaurant is definitely worth trying once or twice.
This place is literally a hop skip and a jump from my house. So it's incredibly convenient. The food is actually decent. I rarely eat red meat, but the steaks here are freaking fabulous! They age the meat so it's buttery and tender, and they always area able to cook it just right! All their pasta dishes are solid. My only complaint...the take-out service is the worst. EVER! I've had take-out here probably 10 times. 9 times Ive had the wrong order. There's no excuse for that.
Review Source:Happy hour to 9 pm = 4 stars
9 pm to close = 2 stars
I like to go here for happy hour and leave before the frat boys get there at about 9 pm. My review is based on that.
The food is good. I love the BLT with avocado when I'm feeling light. Steaks are right on as well. Absolutely love the boneless wings and their "burn your mouth" sauce. And they have a half raw veggie plate that they can make for an appetizer that's not on the menu. Very tasty. Includes zucchini!
Drinks are also good. Beer selection is a bit boring. Wine selection is larger than other places I've been to, favoring the reds. Liquor is poured well. But the big draw for me is the Jaeger. They keep theirs frozen, and it is tasty! I think the J in RJ's stands for Jaeger, and I love it!
Marsha is their best bartender. Definitely try to go the nights she works.
RJs is also great for Football and Baseball games. Lots of TVs and they'll normally change them to your game if you ask nicely.
Came here 2/05 for a friends 21st Birthday. She came here because a good friend of hers recommended the place.
Uh. Honestly it would not be my top idea of a place to celebrate a 21st Birthday.
It's a Bar and Grill. The food was pretty good and the drinks were very nice. Nothing was over the top expensive but nothing was cheap. The bathroom needs to be redone. It's slowly falling apart and the paint is chipping off.
The thing is it was a place for middle aged to older place. Or a place to relax and have a beer. Not a place to party or be loud. It was kind of boring.
Not a place to party. Just a place to hang out and have a good meal.
RJ's does try to be more upscale and it doesn't work. The food isn't upscale and the crowd sure isn't upscale. I mostly just come here for drinks at night with my buddies. This is one of the fews places in the NW that serves drinks unitl 2AM. I'm guessing that is what the draw is for the "Bro's".
All being said the food is pretty good but the hamburgers are what keep me coming back to eat here. They also do have a pretty good brunch on the weekends and a good happy hour. The drinks are done right and it's just a good place to get a beer and watch the game with your buddies.
Alright well first of all if you arent from Bakersfield or the Greater Kern County every patron will ensure that you feel like they are one step from lynching you! 8:00 pm on a Friday a few friends came up to hang out with me from LA since I just got transfered to Bako. Well I heard RAVES about RJ's food and since Im a little fat girl I wanted something GOOD after a long hard day locked in my office. We went to RJ's the place was TINY it is the size of my downstairs livingroom and kitchen. They sat us directly underneath the projection screen which made me feel that everyone was trying to look past us in order to see the Lakers. The Skewars are BOMB the dumplings were BLAH! Tasted like pepperoni stuffed fried dough. Well when 9:00 hit and we still hadnt received a food the locals YIKES came rolling in with there teased up bleached hair and Dooney (lol) bags! SPARE ME!
Review Source:I have been here twice and I was not too impressed either time. It is just a bar in a strip mall that acts like it is high class.
We happened to drop by for a drink on Saturday which happened to be 80's night. It was full of 21 year old dressed up in 80's clothes dancing to all the music that was out before most of them were born.
My friend and I did not even finish our drinks - it was lame in there!
Ok so maybe Im biased cus I LOVE RJ's!!!! Ive been going here for food and to party since they opened!!! I do know the bartenders and servers and owners BUT I love this place!!! It's my CHEERS I guess, the food is amazing I never have had a bad experience when eating here its AlL GOod!!!! and the drinks dont end when we are there!!!! This is definetly one of my favorite places to be during FOOTBALL games on sunday and also on the days we want to drink!
Review Source:The food here is decent. I'm not saying blow your skirt up but you'll feel a breeze. As a bar I have a few qualms, not about the drinks because "Hey, it's drinks!" My problem while mild is the "BRO" contingent that like to frequent this place. While in and of itself the presence of bros doesn't really turn me off a place it is the music that is meant to accommodate said bros that irks me a bit. I just can't relax while wondering which Nickelback song or god forbid BareNakedLadies song will come up next. Not exactly my cup of tea. I can take a broad range of music but I find it hard to just relax with a beer or a cocktail in this establishment. My recommendation is to show up early before their regular crowds do.
Review Source:Came here on a Sat night for a buddy's birthday. Apparently this is an upscale bar in Bakersfield.
What kind of bar doesnt carry 151? Wow.
Second, we ordered jager bombs but the bartender wouldn't let us drop the shots ourselves. He said it would be too messy.
One star for eye candy. We drank our premixed jager bombs and bounced.
I've never eaten here, but have done the bar thang here several times and have a really good time with great drinks. Â The drinks here are tall and potent - just how I like it. Â The inside of the space is pretty nice -nice dark wood bar table feel and a mahogany bar.
The crowd here isn't for everyone. Â RJ's late-night is not for the impatient or someone looking for a quiet drink at a neighborhoody type bar.
As the only upscale bar in the 93312 area it gets REALLY sceney and crowded very quickly with Northwest Bakersfield types (super-tanned, bleached blond types, fake boobs, roiders, drive raised monster trucks, etc, etc.). Â It gets really loud and rowdy. Â So consider yourself lucky if you manage to snag a table. Â It can be "standing room only" sometimes with a line outside.
