This place is pretty interesting.  And not in a  "ooooh, this place is INTERERSTING!!", but more of a, "umm, okay. wow." way.  They have a stage. Nice! They have props (cue guitar solo!).  They have a microphone and they have food and drinks. (So far, so good!) What more can I say?

The crowd was a bit different than what I am used to (yes, I know, this is in the burbs of Detriot), but there were definitely some regulars and it was PACKED.  People were singing and having a good time, which is what you want at a karaoke bar.  It was 70's night so you were supposed to pick a 70's song, which many people did, but many people sang other things.  They give you free popcorn, which seemed really nice - until I found out that the popcorn may or may not be a few days old.

My main problem with this place was the drink selection and the drinks themselves.  It is nice to have a lady roaming around asking you for shots every 15 minutes, but when you say no, the first 3 times - I am pretty sure you are not going to say "Yeah!!" the next 15.  Super annoying. And, since when did I want radio active drinks with no alcohol?  Never.  I am not TOO picky about my fruity drinks, but when I want a fruity drink, I don't want to feel like I may end up getting some terminal illness from it.  My partner in crime and siblings also were not impressed at the low-alcohol content in their alcoholic drinks, but we were there to sing, so we cringed down our drinks and proceeded to try and enjoy ourselves.

Except, we really couldn't since the DJ gets to decide what HE wants to hear and proceeds to bump up songs that 1) fit with the theme and 2) are what his regulars want.  NOT COOL.  Waiting 3 hours to sing a song you selected when you first walked in is a bit of a buzz kill.  Not to mention that when you first walked in, there were only 5 other people in the place.

If we go here again- fine, but I'm bringing my own booze and singing my own songs in the corner a

I used to be a regular at Rockstarz, and I loved it. After being there tonight for the first time in months, I will NEVER set foot in there again. First of all, our waitress was overwhelmingly incompetent. Second of all, the karaoke rotation was absolute bulls**t. For an establishment that prides itself in being a "karaoke bar" 7 nights/week, there is no excuse for the fact that my friends and I watched multiple people sing two or three times while we waited to sing the songs we had turned in hours ago. The K.J. (karaoke jockey)  even sang several songs, and played numerous dance songs while we waited for our turn. When we finally went up to ask him about it, he rudely told us he was "trying to get back to us". This confused me since we hadn't been on stage once, so how could he be getting "back" to us?? We never got to sing. It saddens me to have lost what was one of my favorite bars because they seem to have lost sight of what they set out to be in the first place. If you are looking for a good karaoke bar, I highly recommend you look elsewhere.

The service here can be hit or miss. I usually go to see my friend sing in a karaoke bar and do not always drink. On the nights that I do the service is a lot better than on the nights that I just choose to have a snack or get dinner. The kitchen
Can be slow but the food is decent bar food. Pretty entertaining place but wouldn't make a trip out of my way.

The crowd was great! I had a great time!  The food and drinks could be better... the drinks were a little watered down!  The food was just O.K.

Well - this bar was previously called Jamie's and I would see local bands here. After a while, it became a total DUMP as Jamie's, I think it was maybe towards 'the end' of Jamie's ownership or management. I remember the bathrooms not even having toilet paper let alone paper towels, and no napkins behind the bar to steal and use in a sanitary manner.

I came here last fall as "Rockstarz" and it was so-so....meh. Just a bar. We stopped in, had a couple drinks, then went somewhere else.

So, last night when someone I know suggested we meet there and have a few drinks, I agreed but wasn't super enthused.

Well, I was in for a surprise  - the place had a pretty good face lift since I was in there last fall! The stage area had been switched and there is a pretty nice dance floor now, and the decor has been re-vamped nicely. It looks a lot cleaner and nicer. Now, I don't mind dive bars or even dump bars - I don't care who slaps my booze around for the most part - I'm just saying that since the bands I used to see don't seem to play here any more, Rockstarz isn't a place I'd generally go to on purpose any more. I've got dump bars closer to home in Canton I can choose from.

The sign advertised "Karaoke tonight" but I was there until about midnight and saw no such karaoke. I have heard it's a good place to go for karaoke though; I myself am not a karaoke-er.

There weren't a lot of people in the place either - Maybe 5 or 6 at it's "busiest" last night.

Bar staff was friendly and quick to get more drinks - I would hope so considering that the place was kind of dead. They also had some drink specials ($3.50 call which is a pretty OK deal, and beer specials). I had about 4 Mich Ultras and I think my bar tab was $8. I don't know if that was a fluke or not but I wasn't complaining.

I'd go back now knowing that at least I have something to wipe with when I use the restroom....though the paper towel thing had no paper towels in it. The bathrooms are the only thing that pretty much have not changed there, but overall I'd still return.

If you're a singer I can't see any reason to give this place a poor review. Granted, I've just been there once, but from what I saw and experienced this place is really going for it, and I respect that. There were a couple of minor reasons I didn't give it a 5 star review, but overall this place was great and a lot of fun. First off, the stage is one of the better ones you're going to step on for karaoke. Usually, you're crammed in some random corner of a bar not designed to accommodate music/karaoke. Not here. You got a real stage you step up on with a decent size dance floor in front of that so the "clod factor" (people walking in front of you while you sing, talking over you, etc.) is not an issue. The challenge now is that all eyes are on you, and you have to really deliver a performance. Well, that's cool and what karaoke is all about, right? The KJ booth and songbook were conveniently located at the back of the bar so you didn't have to tromp in front of current singers, and the songbook was on a lighted pedestal so you didn't have to squint at tiny lettering in a dark bar. Pro. My only beef with the songbook was that the Artist section ended at "K", and it looked a little tore up (what karaoke book in a bar isn't?). I don't think that was a real issue because it seemed from the slips you could just put down artist/song and the KJ would make it happen for you if they had it.

We rolled in really late (midnight or so) on a Monday night and the parking lot was packed and the bar was surprisingly full. The singers were getting good response and when the pleasant waitress informed us that domestic bottled beer was on special for $1 a beer I thought I had found karaoke heaven. What's so cool about Michigan is that it's basically Canada so they treat Canadian beers like their own so the g/f and I were drinking the mighty fine Canadian Labatt's Blue for $1 a pop. Nicccceeeee.

Without having to fuss or fight, we got up to sing two songs each even though we blew in so late. Again, nice. My kind of persnickety observation about the sound was that the track could have been louder for my taste to give it more of a "live" feel, and there was no direct monitor on stage for the singer. I could hear myself well enough "out there", but there is something more satisfying about hearing a "direct" feed from a monitor for the singer. Not a deal breaker at all, just could have been tweaked a little sweeter in my view.

This place reminds me of a place I go to in Burbank, CA, called "Dimples" (which I've reviewed), which is one of the funnest places I've been for karaoke. Like Dimples, it's all about the karaoke. I especially liked the cam capturing your performance and projecting it on a big screen. Pretty cool. Note to management: why not copy DImples and do a quick snippet of the "playback" immediately after the singer leaves the stage, and/or streaming the video feed live on the internet so I can watch the singers from my computer when I'm not there.

This place was a welcome change from places that have karaoke as an afterthought. If you're a hardcore karaoke junkie I don't see how you couldn't be happy. Keep on rockin, Rockstarz. I will be back.

i see nothings changed???where are my posts? must have been flagged so they can keep ratings up?still giving excuses. this bar and owner has more excuses than a toddler. nothing but lies and everyone is told something different.thats funny everytime ive been there the books were always missing or pages ripped out. the last time ALL the books were completely and utterly torn apart and thrown in a box at the bottom of the dj booth.the dj just told me they had a party the night before and they ripped em up.bacholerette party.riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. he told me not to worry just come up and tell him what i want and he could find or they have it. hmmmmmm most songs i wanted i didnt see and he didnt have. and i personally would rather look in a book instead of running to the dj all night .be professional , quit with the lame excuses and just fix the problems. take our reviews head on and accept them.isnt that why we are here along with the owner and the bars name?she sure does take critisism very hard and always backs it up with an excuse and covers it up.celebs and has beens are not gonna bring me in either.well maybe Demi? NOT!!!!!!

ok now Ive been to rockstarz and have had an outrageous time...however, I went to rockstarz on sunday they no longer have 25cent drafts...update your website....they told us not to get certain beer cuz it was bad the kind that we did get was warm um if your a bar you should probably have good, cold beer. The food was good but they tried to overcharge us and as always the waitresses/barstaff were super nice. As much as I would like to go back I guess I'd have to drink before I go....oh and the dance floor looks awesome.

If I lived in Garden City, I'd probably hang out here. But, then, if I lived in Garden City, I'd probably be a fucking moron.

This place was really obnoxious. You know how there are certain jobs where the employees are never ever allowed to stand around, even if there's nothing to do? Well, on the night that I went, a waitress was cleaning the myriad empty chairs, furiously spraying a bottle of chemicals. On the opposite end of the "keeping busy" spectrum, the two DJ's couldn't seem to organize songbooks, which were missing basic features like alphabetical order. They did, however, find time to cue up a bunch of nu-metal songs and then sit at the bar drinking while I waited to sing before a nearly empty bar.

I'm not sure what the other two reviewer's are talking about with the music and that its a gay bar. I was there just this past Saturday and the bar was absolutely nothing like they wrote.
My friends and I LOVE this bar!  I live in Shelby Twp. And we try to go out to Garden City every couple months. I don't sing karaoke, but the set up is awesome. There's a stage with instruments and even wigs and costumes if you so like to act the part. I appreciate that the DJ has 6 or so songs sung in karaoke and then plays a few dance songs.  They also have a party bus available to be booked, which will pick you up and take you home. Inside it has lights everywhere and a karaoke machine!  So much fun!

Believe me, I want to give 5 stars to any dedicated karaoke bar with a kick-ass songbook and $4 pitchers, but I will never go back to Rockstarz again.

Number 1 - It isn't really a karaoke bar. Sure, they offer karaoke every night, but there's a reason this kind of business doesn't thrive in Garden City (or anywhere else in southeastern Michigan, apparently). There just isn't enough popular interest in a 7-day a week karaoke bar. But the locals are plenty interested in $4 pitchers and 25 cent drafts on Sundays. So people who don't care for karaoke show up for the cheap booze and the singers are made to feel like an annoyance. Nobody claps, nobody cares. Seriously, even the KJ sat at the bar all jaded-faced, barely bothering to interrupt his shitty dance music playlist for the singers. Okay, the "singer" contingent consisted only of me and Dan R. but this is a karaoke bar, right?

Number 2 - The atmosphere blows. Do we really need five contiguous flatscreens to watch one Seinfeld rerun? Isn't there something on ESPN that I can block out more easily? The waitstaff outnumbered the customers 2:1, but instead of sending some of them home, the management made a couple of the servers scrub chairs in the middle of the bar. When the servers got bored they all shouted to each other across the room like there were no customers around. Granted, there weren't many of us, but this is a business, right?

Number 3 - heard a white guy in a cammo  cap drop the n-bomb like it was nothing at all

5 star prices & songbook  plus 1 star atmosphere divided by n-bomb dropping jackass = 0 stars, but it's Yelp, so I have to give it 1
