If i could only eat at one taco shack the rest of my days this would be it. Even after working in 100 plus temperature days with YMCA summer camp, me and my fellow Y crew would dominate this place knowing full well the consequences later. Why you ask? All in the name of great taste and friendship!
Roscoe's home made sauces could go well with anything. I could seriously dose some ice cream in some Texas brushfire or some cincy city slicker. Their nacho cheese is just the right tip of spicy, and their tacos are all business.
If someone has something less than amazing to say about this place, i question their character, and have to wonder when exactly life was no longer worth living. Roscoe's demands your respect, but mainly, it invites you in like a true lady of the night. Its a one night stand you never feel guilty about. Be mine forever Roscoe's.
I really like this place. Â My boyfriend was a little less than impressed, I think, but I am not shocked by that. Â It definitely tastes like stuff you (or you mom would) make at home but sometimes you aren't at home, and most of the time you aren't at home with your mom.
We had been car shopping for hours upon hours (Thank GODDESS that is over) in the Greenwood area when we happened to pass by this place on the way home. Â Starved and felt like our souls had been sucked out, I offered to treat us to some tacos to lift our spirits. Â Roscoe's isn't authentic by any stretch but it did the trick.
For a random weekday evening, the place was hopping with several groups of high school age kids, families, and older couples. It very much has the feel of a scene from a sitcom on ABC Family here. The place definitely seems like it's staffed by a bunch of delightfully stoned teenagers, which is usually a recipe for disaster, but somehow felt like it was working for them.
We told the counter guy we were first timers and he basically ordered for us and gave us free cookies. We were at a state of mental and emotional drainage that you can reach only by spending 4+ hours in an Acura dealership, and we were very grateful for these acts of kindness.
We were given two of the $4.99 taco sampler platters which featured a shredded chicken taco, a taco of some beef or pork variety, and a taco with their house ground beef chili which I liked best. Â I would like to try the burrito with this protein choice next. Â We also tried all of their house hot sauce concoctions which is a fun attribute of this business. Â When all was said and done, we felt like people again. Â I would definitely consider this comfort food.
As we were leaving, an old couple was walking out ahead of us. Â I remarked that my one true hope was when we are that age, we are just like them. Â Just an old couple eating tacos.
It reminds me of a taco joint you'd go to while you were in college. Â Bare bones decorating and punk rock playing over the speakers. What sets this place apart food wise is the chili style beef and their many homemade hot sauces (my favorite part). Â If you love hot sauce then this is the place is for you. Â Their refried beans are completely homemade and really good. Â I know it sounds odd, but they are worth a try.
Review Source:I LOVE ROSCOE'S.
I always get the Mike Fink burrito. It's shredded chicken with sour cream, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. (I have them leave the olive off because olives make everything taste like salty feet.) It's like 1 pound and a half of deliciousness.
The black bean & rice burrito is the bomb, too. It's soggy but in the best way. It just melts in your mouth. Throw some Too Darn Hot sauce on there and it's perfect.
One thing that I don't like at all is the nachos. It's just really bland gross chips that you get at baseball games or whatever. :(
It isn't Mexican food at all really. But I love it.
We used to be big fans of this place. Â The food was always exceptional, especially the beef and cookies. Â The staff has always been rude but we continued to go back. However, the last time we were there I had huge chunks of hard beef in my tacos, the chips were stale, and we were under impressed. Â It will be a long time before we try Roscoe's again.
Review Source:Oh my goodness! Crazy good food! My husband's father had recommended Roscoe's several times, but it was never a place that we would think about when dinner time came around, for whatever reason...
Then one morning/earlier afternoon (while I was still sleeping), my husband went out and grabbed himself an early lunch, which he brought home.
Luckily for me, and perhaps not so luckily for him, he shared a bite. He was then forced to go back out and get me tasty tacos as well.
I love the soft chicken tacos, and the crunchy shredded beef! They have proper names, but I am far to lazy to look it up at this exact moment...
So! In conclusion, the next time dinner time rolls around, give some consideration to Roscoe's Tacos! It will be well worth it! Â :)
Hoosier Mexican - a new category. If you're from the midwest and you're not of hispanic descent, this might be the kind of Mexican food your mom made - with a good selection of hot sauce.
The menu is simple - choice of meat (hamburger, chicken, or beef) in a taco, tostado, or burrito with letture, tomato, cheese and few other choices served with a side of rice and beans. The menu has cute names like Pecos Bill and Paul Bunyon for everything.
Roscoe's is inexpensive large quantities of fresh and tasty food. Roscoe's is across the street from a middle school and less than a mile from the high school. If you need to food that will satisfy a teenage boy or an entire baseball team, bring them to Roscoe's.
I like that they offer black beans and guacamole as sides. They have a range of tasty hot sauces from mild to pretty hot. Roscoe's is simple, nothing fancy, but it's definitely worth a visit.
Meh is about right. The place was packed on a recent Friday night. We waited for probably 20 minutes for our food. I got the small sampler and my fiance got the larger one. The taco shells reminded me of the ones my mom used to heat up in the oven when I was a kid. The fillings were dry and not very interesting. There was only one bottle of sauce left and it was way too hot for my tastes (and I like spicy). I'd rather have Taco Bell, honestly.
Review Source:I'm not originally from Indianapolis, so there isn't the nostalgia  for me others have mentioned. Also, I don't eat meat, so it did limit my choices. With that said, I tried the black bean and rice burrito. It was huge and the prices are very reasonable. All in all, I did think it was good, but just not great. If you are a meat eater, I would say check out Roscoe's, if in the area.
Review Source:A bit over priced for the same quality mexican you can make at home. A family of 4 will spend the same as if they go to any other Mexican joint in town. In fact we spent the same here as we did at On the Border which is a much better option.
They are nice folks and close to our home but we've tried it twice and probably won't go back.
Keep in mind, this is not a Mexican restaurant, but they serve very good Tacos, Burritos and such. If you are like me and can't stand the Mexican Phone Company that serves Tacos, then this is your place. If you like a little spice, make sure you use the TDH (Too Darn Hot) sauce, it rocks! Its really not that hot, but its got "The Flavor." Enjoy!
Review Source:I've been fortunate enough to have had the privilege of enjoying Roscoe's Tacos for 15 years. I love this place! It is cheap and always leaves my belly full to the brim.
The black bean and rice burrito has always been a staple of mine. But I'm also a big fan of the shredded beef tacos. The beef is always tasty and tender, and goes really well with their toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, olives, and I always add a hot sauce or two.
My only complaint is their use of boring flour tortillas for the burritos. If you're that opposed to the boring flour, go with the corn shell tacos and you won't be disappointed.
I don't get it! How could such a terrible restaurant stay in business? I could easily assemble a MUCH better taco/burrito in five minutes in my own kitchen. I ordered a taco and a burrito and both were bland as could be. The shredded beef and shredded chicken tasted like they had absolutely no spices or flavoring whatsoever. And, the available toppings are all plain jane lettuce and tomato. I tried adding the "specialty" sauces and they were pretty boring too. Even though I was pretty hungry, I ate only half of my food.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from Roscoe's Tacos!
Sliders with a Mexican flair.
Some might argue that such a phrase is a tautology, but let's be nice now. Â These tacos aren't the real deal, but that doesn't mean they're bad: it's Mexican retooled in a Midwest kitchen. Â Definitely comfort food, and it takes less dough to feel genuinely satiated at Roscoe's than you would with a dozen of those oniony cotton balls at the fluorescent fortress down the road. Â Then again, you also find far more inventive toppings at that gutsy trailblazer Baja Fresh, also less than a mile away.
So what brings some of us back to Roscoe's? Â It really is the sauces, which have kick, even if you don't use the Midwest as your standard of judgment. Â They are distinctive and the flavors actually fit with Roscoe's playful descriptions.
That said, you might be better off just buying their sauces in bulk and using them for your own homemade tacos. Â But even using Aldi-bought ingredients may not get you the per-taco bargain that Roscoe's offers. Â So you might as well go for the whole shebang for mere pesos.
okay, this place was super bad guilty yum. Â i had the half supreme nachos, with no meat. Â i was naughty and ate the cheese sauce on this bad boy. Â wow. Â i felt so yucky and bloated after..i felt yuk!! Â but this review isn't about my body reactions to dairy. Â
anywhoo, it was tasty and it was good. Â very filling and very cheap. Â they seem pretty cool and we noticed a lot of people coming in and out ordering take out. Â
yeah, i'd come back here. Â nah, i woudln't eat that cheese again.. Â
i do love their TONS of hot sauce options.... more spots should do this!
Gotta love this place! The best tacos and burritos around. Sure taco bell is good but this place is great, not too bad of a price either! When you go here you must get a cowboy cookie! The service is always great here, they are very nice. The inside of this place could use a little better decor, but I'm just here for the food anyways, get in get out! I always get the burrito with a side and that fills me up, these are big burritos! If you love tacos and burritos and haven't been here, make a pit stop soon, you'll be glad you did!
Review Source:This place is the best! I would rather eat here than at Taco Bell any day! The food just tastes so much better and is made with better quality ingredients. My favorite is the "Paul Bunyan" tacos and the "Cowboy" cookies. Eating here is a better value than Taco Bell because the tacos are bigger and they don't skimp on toppings! The staff is very friendly and they don't keep you waiting. Don't get me wrong, I like Taco Bell, but I prefer Roscoe's so much more!
Review Source:This is one of the worst places I have ever been to. It's not that the food is absolutely horrible, but its just so bland and boring. They literally purchase their food from the grocery store. It taste like an amateur trying to make taco salads at home. The cheese if straight from the Kraft shredded cheddar cheese bag, and the chips are straight from the Tostitos bag.
I honestly believe while alot of people rave about this place is because it taste familiar, like something their mother used to make....a mother who was obviously not familiar with Mexican cuisine. It actually reminded me alot of taco salad day in high school.
Sure, our genetic codes are made up of A,T,C & G, for some of us though there's something else living in us -- that's Roscoe's!
For those of us who had Roscoe as our teenage haunt...or even for just first time visitors now...our double-helix is an intertwined burrito braised in the homemade texas brushfire sauce.
Who needs anatomy 101 when you can just open up the saran wrap and pull apart the gooey chocolate cookie of our hearts at Roscoe.
The menu nearly unchanged for over a decade...this place has been a go-to for us locals, and we take pride in it, because, well, Roscoe stands tall as a bastion of hometown pride amidst big box outtatown bullies.
Love this joint. Â Great American taco's. Â If they had a drive thru and opened up next to taco bell they would probably put them out of business. Â Definitely more expensive than Taco Hell, but definitely worth the $$.
If you are looking for authentic mexican then as someone else mention look elsewhere. Â If you are looking for good food and good value for your money then this is the place for you.
