Really should be 4.5 stars but Yelp doesn't allow 1/2 stars. Salads are exceptionally fresh and tasty. I love the piadine, which is sort of a salad wrap. Friendly staff. Nice decor with casual atmosphere. Pretty solid wine selection.

The best pizza I have ever had.

The place has a great ambiance and nice decor. It has a wood burning oven for the pizza. The service was quick and attentive, our waters were filled and our dishes were perfectly timed. They were also very helpful with our reservations, questions, and the specials.

My S.O and I shared the Mediterranean piadine and a Portobello pizza.  The piadine had an eggplant pesto which coated the bread perfectly, the portion was huge, the greens were fresh and I loved the vinaigrette.

My first bite of the pizza left me absolutely speechless, and I mean that. I truly believe this is the best pizza I have ever tasted. The bite melted in my mouth. It was lemony and creamy. I really recommend this pizza and the restaurant.

Stopped in last night as I had a craving for a fresh caprese salad since it is a summer time staple after all right?!

I have to say that I was less than impressed with this dish... I should have gone to the farmer's market and made it myself.  The tomatoes were not ripe, the balsamic vinegar and seasoning were lacking.  The only star was the fresh burrata.

In addition we ordered the signature Oven Roasted Artichoke + Salsa Verde Aioli they pride themselves with.  I have to say the Salsa Verde aioli was good, the artichoke itself was not.  It was not cooked well before being roasted; most of the leaves were tough and not edible.  They serve it with balsamic vinegar on the plate which does not pair well with the other flavors.

Last, I ordered the special of the night, I was told it was a prime rib cut with mashed potatoes and horseradish.  I asked to have the dish served rare and was shocked to learn it came well done.  The meat was a pale grey; not pink at all.  I was told by the server that the meat could not be served with a "pink" finish as per the kitchen.  Never have I had this experience with this cut of meat.

I have been to this establishment many times; have even treated friends to gift certificates as I appreciate the small local business.   But tonight the experience left me with a blah feeling.

If you are in the mood for a decent thin crust, oven roasted pizza (will get blackened on the edges) and need a gluten free option.  Go for it.  You will be happy.

The wine list is also pretty good; a variety to choose from.

Fantastic Pizza, great attentive and friendly service and a good wine selection but the wines tended to be a bit pricey. Definitely recommend checking it out if your in town, will be back!

Great pizza! This place has fabulous pizza- great crust and not too salty. I also like that they use local ingredients. They lost a star for having a small menu, but that isn't even a big deal. Just be sure to get a good table. Ours near the door had awful glare from the sun, but others would be fine.

Dog friendly... Have an outdoor patio for your dog.  Bring a jacket if the weather is cool.  There are heaters -- and I guess you could ask to have them turned on.  Had the sausage pizza (unique with and eggs on it) and the Mediterranean piadine.  Both were very good.

Rule of thumb: If you go to a place for pizza and the menu section refers to it as "Pizze" you know everything will have to cost an extra dollar to accommodate their creativity.

I shouldn't make fun, this place was actually pretty good.   The servers were all hustling and still very friendly, even on fathers day with a pretty packed house.   When you're seated they give kids a ball of dough so they can roll out a pizza crust.  This was fun for our daughter, although she didn't appreciate that it came back with no toppings at all.  We enjoyed it with olive oil.  The "pizzes" ranged from meh (Margherita) to fantastic (Moto Guzzi, sausage and onion with white sauce), to a little strange (Meatball: veal and pork meatballs, olives, organic egg).  I don't see how a fried egg helps a pizza.  I mean pizze.

My wife and daughter don't like anything even remotely charred (sigh), so they weren't impressed at all.  Thy can write their own review.  I thought the food was all above average. Nice ambience, nice service, I'll come back if my next wife likes this kind of thing.

I'd give it four stars if the prices were a bit lower and the menu broader, but the food quality is high and the service is good so it's certainly a good choice if you're in the mood for Italian food.

A few nits (as always):  the music was a weird mix of 1970s rock and metal, which didn't really work for me but then the owners must know what they're doing because the place was full and people seemed happy.  Also, the parking lot is huge but the spaces are striped very tightly for some reason.

Not sure how I stay away from this place - they have an amazing selection of wines, delicious locally sourced food, and soccer! These are my kinda people.

Food is decent but portions sizes are small for the price. The music is irritating unless you like disco thunk rattling your ears while you're trying to have a conversation with your partner. They need to decide whether they want to be a dance club or a restaurant. .

Fresh, fresh, fresh!  Great local veggies, housemade cheese, and outstanding pizzas.  They even provided our dog with water while we enjoyed their outside seating.  We liked it so much we hired them for a private event for 60.

My wife and I love Rosso, not just for the food, but for the staff, atmosphere, and beverages. It seems like when we have any out of town visitors Rosso is the first restaurant that comes to our minds.

We always get the flat bread and burrata. oh, my goodness.  Wood fired flat bread with garlic, parsley, and olive oil, and this creamy cheesy goodness.  We have tried the gluten free option and it's pretty good as well.

I always like to get a piadine (a salad on a flat bread), sort of like a pita.  Depends on when you go since the menu changes depending on what can be purchased locally and in season. We have never been let down with any pizza we get.  Always full of flavor and enough for tomorrows left overs. Yes, a little pricey, but great flavors and wonderful service.

I would highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood.

We walked out tonight.  The vibe from the staff there is so bad.  My husband and I were completely ignored when we had a question about the wine list while waiting for our table.  The several staff around were busy, but did not even bother to acknowledge we were standing there with a question.  There is no friendly vibe there at all and I read other reviews below that indicate the same.  Really, Rosso's.  How hard is it to ask your staff to be nice?  We won't go back.

Rosso's catered my wedding last year in Monte Rio on the Russian River, and it was AWESOME. People still talk about that food. It was so good. We hired them after tasting their food at my friend's wedding, and it was excellent, so we went with them. Their price was really good too, mostly because they don't do table/ linen/ plate rentals, so you need to take care of that separately.

My partner and I wanted a whole roasted pig with verde sauce, Rosso's luscious polenta, lots of summer tomatoes, green salads, and mozzarella, and so that's what we got.

Rosso's staff was pretty easy to work with over email to work out a contract. They drove out to Monte Rio for a site visit beforehand, and the owner Gessine gave us lots of great event and rental advice. On the day of, they arrived on time (as far as I know) and worked with our day-of coordinator to get everything set up. The guests really loved the whole roast pig, which was displayed on the table, and the gluten-free folks loved the polenta with pesto and roasted veg. The food was fantastic and plentiful.

My only complaint is that we hired several extra staff through Rosso's to assist in opening bottles of wine, pouring drinks and generally helping out with drinks, and the extra staffers did not do this job well. I don't think the (young) extra staff got the supervision from the more experienced Rosso's staff to ensure that this task was done properly. That was annoying, since I saw a few of the staff hanging out and not working that hard, and I knew the bar was slammed doing simple things like opening bottles of wine instead of mixing awesome drinks.

However, as they say, it's a small price to pay to the party gods for a party that went off that well. The food was really fantastic, and the price was very good. Thanks Rosso's!

We go to Rosso about 1-2 times each month.  Went again last night, Mother's Day, and the food was very good (as usual).  Servers were friendly and attentive (as usual).

My only suggestion for improvement would be: the wait time between our appetizers/gusti and our main meals/piadine and pizza has been too long.  We like to go before the big dinner rush and lately there has been a long lull between courses.

Rosso's wood fired pizza is one of the best in Sonoma County.

    Piadines are awesome!!

It is really good, but really expensive Pizza.

I cannot recommend this place nor give it the number of stars it might earn had it only been more reasonably priced.  For instance, an INDIVIDUAL size mushroom pizza is 16 bucks, nice crust but very skimpy on the toppings and most of them are in the very center, so the crust (the area with no toppings) is just WAY bigger than it should be given the price.

I dined with two companions, we split two pizzas, had a half carafe of the lowest priced wine and a cream soda - we were out the door for about $75.  And still very very hungry.

Service was OK, but inefficient - far too long a wait in between getting seated and actually getting some attention and orders taken.

If you have the budget for it, or just don't care about relative value, then you will probably enjoy this place.  I liked it, but did not think the return for the cost was proportionate and we will not be back.

Back to La Vera's we go!

We are new in town and had dinner there on Friday night. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and enjoyed our conversation with Adam. He gave us information on cooking classes. The wood fired pizza was great and next time we plan on ordering the seafood risotto. We highly recommend the food and the friendly staff.
Well worth adding to your list of places to eat in Santa Rosa.

My husband and I went to Rosso Pizzeria after a long day of wine tasting during our recent visit to Sonoma.  So, here goes on the review.

You know that uncomfortable feeling you get when you walk into a restaurant and no one gives you a second glance?  Employees are whizzing by doing their jobs, except that the general job of someone acknowledging your presence is forgotten?  You know when you walk into a restaurant for the first time and you wonder if it is actually a speakeasy where you have to utter some secret code words in order to get service?

That's what happened when we arrived.  I know, some of you might think we were sloppy drunk or something when we arrived (because it was after a long day of wine tasting).  But no, we were proper tasters and just hungry.  So, there we are, just standing there, wondering what to do.  There's no host to be seen.  There's no table, no podium, no "please wait to be seated", no "seat yourself."  Every table is occupied and so we just stood in the waiting area, looking uncomfortable as waitstaff, busboys, and bartenders did their business, walking by us.  It was one of those points when, if SOMEONE had just looked at us and said, "Joe will be with you in just a moment," we would have felt better, but instead we just....stood there, wondering if we were actually invisible.

After about ten (TEN) minutes or so, another party arrived.  Now that there were quite a few of us crowded in the small front area, the bartender called over, "have you guys been helped?"  I'm thinking, uh, no, obviously not.  The people behind us kindly gestured that we had been there before them, and the bartender says, "Did you get on the list?"  I'm thinking to myself, how the eff could I have gotten on a list?  You've been in sight of us the whole time and know that.  So we go and put ourselves on the list.  Then she says, "Adam should be by soon, Adam is the boss on seating."

Five minutes more.  Adam meanders over.  Emphasis on "meanders."  At this point, we realize he's the schmuck who's been standing at the back of the restaurant yukking it up with a large table the entire time we've been there.  And he asks, with an infuriating smugness, "How many?"  And we're like, oh my effing GEEEEEEE, you're a douche.  Are we at the Four Seasons and dressed in hobo rags?  No, this is a casual pizza joint and we are hungry, and you're acting like we had to get on a waitlist Momofuku-style just to wait here for your sorry ass to come over and seat us.

So then, he gestures to a booth whose occupants had just left, but the table hadn't been cleared yet, "Would you like to sit there?"  We say, "Sure."  We think, "We don't care just get us a table."  He says, "So-and-so will get that cleared and ready for you, mmm-kay?"  Ok.  So....a few minutes more, someone clears the table.  Couple minutes someone sets the table....And we waited for Adam to come back and show us to the table since that's generally how it's done.  But Adam is back at the table in the back, dicking around.  So....finally, we're like whatever, we're just going to sit down.  And we did.

The pizza was decent.  But the front of house service was terrible, and basically, we sent daggers with our eyes in Adam's general direction as we ate our decent pizza.  Not exactly worth the aggravation though.  We lived in New Haven, so I guess we're pizza snobs.

Came here for dinner on a recommendation from a friend.  We came right before it got busy and were seated right away.  They give a piece of pizza dough to children and they can make their own breadsticks.  Very ingenious.   Tried the brussels sprouts swimming in cream.  Amazing.  Everything we ate was great.  We will be back again for sure.

Been here a few times and always enjoyed the pizzas, but this time we were disappointed with the food, not the service.  It's been a while since our last visit (due to the length of wait time to get in). We ordered the beet salad which was delicious and a great size.  We noticed the menu has changed and pizza choices are fewer, a disappointment since our choice pizza's were gone or slightly different.  Our biggest complaint was the pizza crust, it was tough and chewy.  This time the pizzas were burnt (more than normal) and soggy or greasy.

I don't  understand the price scale. I ordered a margarita pizza and my child ordered a child's cheese pizza.  Pizza's were the same size, my pizza had basil and garlic shavings and cost $5 more.??

Rosso was suggested to us by our Airbnb hosts and I was glad that we followed that recommendation. Despite it being really busy we were seated right away at the counter. I ordered a pizza which was cooked in a wood fired oven and filled the massive hole in my stomach. Julia D ate a split pea and prime rib soup with a side of Brussels sprouts, which she enjoyed.

The bartender was extremely helpful and I had numerous refills of my coke while watching a Premier League football match where Man City lost which accounts for some of the happy memories.

Matt B and I came here as a rec from our B&B hosts. We were seated right away at the counter. The man sitting next to us recommended the split pea and prime rib soup he was having. The Brussels sprouts were very heavy---full of cream and crazy fats, but they were good. I ate too much of them and felt sick. I think they were meant to share. The bartender/server at the counter was extremely helpful and attentive. She was awesome! Matt B got pizza and he loved it. They were also playing Premier League football, which won points with Matt B.

Unbelievable pizza with a superb wine list and great atmosphere. I love coming to Rosso for some delicious food.

In house hand made buratta cannot be beat. Order your own because you will not want to share. Pizzas are go to split with one person. The crust is chewy yet crispy and the toppings are always local and seasonal. Do not be afraid to try an egg on your pizza! The only thing better than dipping toast in runny egg yolk is dredging your pizza through it.

Salads are good but lets be honest. You came here for carbs, cheese and more carbs. So skip the salad and order another pizza.

I love wood fired pizza and this place never disappoints.  I tried something out of my "norm" and didn't love it but I won't rate down for it.  That's just a taste preference.  Fun atmosphere, good service, great pizza.

Update 2/18/2013 - Went back again and tried a plain margherita.  I have been spoiled by Pizzeria Picco and now Rosso's doesn't have the same appeal and draw.  Nice spot for wood-fired pizza.

Came here before with a friend for lunch and so when I was in the area for the half marathon I figured my friend and I can carbo load here before our race.  We called in to try to get reservations but it looked like they were super busy and said it'd be an hour wait at least.  We tried another restaurant and said the same thing.  SO...knowing that this place is a pizza place I figure take out is the way to go.

We called for takeout and it took only 15-20 minutes to get it.  We ordered the funghi lemon pizza and the margherita.  Both hit the spot and my friend and I ate most of it but had enough for leftovers which worked out great since we had a fridge in our hotel we could put it in and a microwave.

I'd definitely come back here again and recommend takeout if the wait is waaay too long.

I haven't ever been to Rosso's restaurant location but I have been to a party they catered and their food truck at the Sebastopol farmers market. All the pizza they have made has been incredible. The owners are very kind and passionate people who love what they do. Also every employee I've ever talked with has been great as well. This is what true Italian pizza tastes like not that crappy deep dish stuck from the frozen aisle.
I really need to go to the restaurant location and check out everything else they have to offer!

My friend and I are fans of a solid wood oven cooked thin crust pizza. Throw on some amazing flavors like chorizo or different types of mushrooms and a salad lightly tossed in a meyer lemon vinaigrette I'm there!

The service is solid, I love an open kitchen and it's fun to watch how quickly the pizzas actually cook, a great wine selection and good food at pretty reasonable prices, check it out!

We were so happy that we found and chose Rosso for our rehearsal dinner in June.  We both love pizza and were excited to have it as part of wedding weekend!   Our moms were a little weary at first - but everyone was so happy in the end.

They brought their pizza oven to the lake in geyserville where our dinner was held.

The cooked up 5 different pizzas for our guests  throughout the night- the presentation was great.  It was buffet style with 2 salads to choose from.  As guests starting finishing their first plate - Rosso walked around with various pizzas so people did not have to get up.

The brought extra staff so we could have a bartender throughout the evening - was a nice addition to the night.

We didnt have a wedding planner/coordinator, and really made sure set up looked great and everyone was happy.  They helped us stay within budget.

I would HIGHLY recommend rosso for your next party, wedding, etc.   It was such a fun night.

I loved that the first thing they did was come out and engage with my 2 year old nephew - gave him some pizza dough to make his own pizza bread.

I was really excited about the menu too --- but then

there was an incredibly long wait after we ordered our food - after about 45 minutes someone said oh your food will be right up in 5 minutes. Then they forgot one of our pizza's so they had to make that one - thus delaying the dinner longer.  We only had pizza. so we are talking about a 55 minute wait for thin crust pizza. Even with that long of a wait and a forgotten pizza - they didn't comp us anything.

Pizza was good - similar to Frasca in Chicago (which I think is better!).  But with that service it would be pretty hard to get me to go back for just "good" pizza.

We were in the Santa Rosa area and decided to pick up some food from Rosso Pizzeria. We ordered:

-Burrata + Olive Oil $6 (appx): This dish is no longer on their menu, since my visit here was about 2 months ago. For $6, this was a STEAL- hugest piece of burrata everrrrrr, and it was tasty. You must try their burrata if you come here!
-Moto Guzzi Pizza (White Base [shaved garlic & oregano], House Smoked Mozzarella,
Caggiano Spicy Italian Sausage, Slow Roasted Sweet Onions, "The Smoked Olive" Olive Oil and Swiss Chard $16): Super thin crust pizza, and the toppings went really well with the slightly chewy crust. The outer crust was a bit too charred for my liking, but I managed to eat everything anyway.

Overall, Rosso has delicious food and reasonable prices. They are not located in downtown Santa Rosa, but worth the short detour as you don't have to battle for parking in their lot.

Great pizza bar.  Came here for lunch with coworkers.  I enjoyed what I ordered.  Don't remember, but it was good.  Slightly burnt, though.  Great portion size; thin crispy crust.  The pizzas came pretty quick, also.

It is a bit hard to find.  They have a huge wall of wine and promote local foods.

I go through phases where there's a food that sticks with me, and all I can think of, all I desire to consume is that item. Usually this has to do with something I can't readily have, like zabaglione or poached lobster, or flaming baked Alaska...but this time, this time was different.

Backstory : lived four years in the napa valley where everyone took dates to pizzeria Tra Vigne. Highlight besides the garlic rolls were the Piadines. Amazing crispy pizza bases covered in sauce, topped with salad and goodies. Delicioso!

Now being celiac, I thought my day with Piadines were over. Not so my friend. Enter Rosso. I knew from back when they opened that their food was good, I usually got the Goomba, which was a pizza covered in spaghetti and meatballs. My dining companion's mom offered that they now have a gluten free pizza. Unbeknownst to me, somehow this happened!!! In my neighborhood!!!!

First return, I ordered the gluten free pizza. You can order any pizza on a gluten free crust, but they have a designated gluten free specialty pizza as well. This one has portabella mushrooms, and is dressed finely in a truffled red sauce. I liked the texture of the crust a lot, and heartily declared it the best artisan pizza since Pizza Vino 707 closed. The sauce, unfortunately, lacked zing, which I really hate to say since I had really high hopes about it, being truffled and all. I expected a heady truffle aroma to hit me as it was placed at my attention, but honestly, I couldn't even taste it. That said, the rest of the pizza was delicious, and even though the sauce lacked truffle, it was still pretty good.

Second return, I discovered they could also make the Piadines on the gluten free crust! Had I known this, I would have ordered it first!!!!! I ordered the Fungi which is a gluten free crust, topped with olive oil, thyme, garlic, and a Caesar tossed arugula salad. This is encircled with whole sautéed garlic cloves (a lot of them), and mushrooms galore, and a final garnish of mascarpone cheese around the edges.

This last dish has been burned into my palate, and there it has remained for days. It's all I'm wanting, and I'm sure the staff there are getting tired of me, but by golly it's decadent, and you need to go there. Go now ! It's waiting!

Wowsa Wowsa Wow Wow - is all I can say about this place.

While they do make great pizza, I wouldn't call it a pizzeria - the wine is list is OUTSTANDING!! really unique selections from all over the world and many special local wines!!

Heidi was the bartender, she moved quickly but still managed to take time and talk to us, excellent wine recommendations, gave us tastes of certain wines - reccomended great starter food - everything we ate was wonderful. I am so happy to have found this place - great bar, one of the owners & gm - Adam, is a great guy, stops and talks to discuss what they do there. They even make and sell there own cheese - which is delicious.

This is a must go / must try - take their suggestions and go for it. Really an Outstanding experience - also, really like the bar area. Nice and smart staff!!

I forgot to ask if the pizza crust had soybean oil in it.

    I paid a painful price.

    It was totally worth it.

This pizza is on par with something you'd find on the East Coast. The margaherita pizza I had was pretty amazing. The crust! The sauce! The cheese! P:

My friends got the more "creative" options. They pretty much liked all of them. The "goomba" (sp?) with the spaghetti and meatballs on top was a little odd. The personals are big enough to share if you get a side as well. They're slightly too big to finish on your own (though I almost did).

Oh, great wine list too--especially organic/sustainable/biodynamic varieties. If you decide to bring your own bottle, the corkage fee is $10--which isn't too terrible. If I remember correctly, they offer a variety of non-alcoholic options as well.
