So we arrive at 10:55AM and there is a wait person bringing an outdoor umbrella out to the curb side tables. We ask if they are open and he replies that they will open in a few minutes at 11:00. So we stand outside and after installing the umbrella he asks if we are going to eat inside. We say yes and he says we are welcome to take a seat inside. We enter the door and are greeting by a lady who asks a couple of times if she can help us and says they are not open. We explain the fellow said we could come in and wait and she curtly replies "We are not open!" Â Remember now it is maybe 11:56 or 11.57!!!
We exit the restaurant and stand there maybe 30 seconds while my blood pressure goes up thinking about just how rude these folks are. Come on, 4 minutes early and you can't let me sit down until you decide you are ready to wait on the first customers of the day!
Walked less than a block and found a great breakfast and lunch diner that got our business this morning and will continue.
Not returning the Roxx to get treated rudely again!

Cute place in downtown Martinez. Â I've only dined here once, so for now I'll give 3 stars in hopes of raising to a 4 or 5 in the future. Â The food is fresh and tasty. Â The service on the other hand left a lot to be desired.
I went today for lunch with a friend. Â Walking in there is no hostess stand or signage directing customers to seat ourselves. Â We are also not greeted by any employees so we walk around the tables and decide to just have a seat. Â We wait to be acknowledged or handed menus. Â After a couple minutes a waitress comes over to wipe down our table and bring menus. Â There were only 3 or 4 other tables occupied at the time.
We sit for about 10 more minutes reading the entire menu two or three times and chatting about what to order.  Never once asked if we wanted a drink on this warm summer day.  Finally the waitress returns and we order our meals and drinks all at once.  The food comes out in a timely manner and is delicious.  We had sandwiches, salad and a soup.  All very fresh.  While we enjoyed our meal the service lacked greatly.  We also had empty drink glasses for the majority of our meal.  At one point the waitress noticed and claimed she was brewing more iced tea, yet not 2 minutes after that a woman at the table next to us was delivered a fresh glass of tea?  So annoying since I was coughing and would have liked at least a glass of water while I waited for tea.  After we finally got our drinks refilled, we were handed the check and  never offered dessert or more refills.  We wanted both but gave up at that point.
Overall disappointed with the service but not discouraged from giving this place another try since the food was good and the menu fairly expansive. Â Although not many tapas? Maybe because it was the lunch menu.
Who are these people who got good service at Roxx on Main?
It's a slow Tuesday at this place and there is no silverware on the table. That doesn't change quickly. My coffee nearly got cold waiting for the sugar and spoon to hit the table. It takes four requests and 30 minutes to get table water.
The flatbread which should have come out first came out after our wrap and burger. Oh and the wrap my wife got. The waitress wrote down the wrong one. So after 40 minutes (for a wrap!) they have to make her the right one.
Apologies? Half-hearted with a sneer and glare that tells me the waitress thinks we're the ones who ordered wrong. Not true!
So the food is good right? Meh.
The strawberry balsamic flatbread was okay but really should have been toasted a bit more. The wrap was more like a salad in a loose tortilla which made it tough to eat. My burger? Average which is not what I expect for $10.
In all, there's no good reason to visit Roxx unless you enjoy poorly-served mediocre over-priced food.
A few days ago we had the most gorgeous baby shower at Roxx on Main. Â I can't emphasize enough how accomadating and lovely Roxanne and her staff were in the planning of the party and throughout every detail! Â The food was super yummy and the protions were extrememly generous. The sangria was delicious and all the beverages were fresh and great. Â I would recommend this venue with than 5 stars plus!!! From the people, to the ambiance, to the food- everything couldn't have been more perfect. Â Thank you Roxanne for making our special day so beautiful!
Review Source:I thought I'd give Roxx another try. Â After my last review, I was contacted by a "friend" of the owner, who urged me to give Roxx a 5th try saying that the owner had really stepped things up.
I don't understand why Roxx gets such high marks. Â Â My guess is that the people who love it regularly dine at Taco Bell, Black Angus, and Subway. Â Roxx is trying to be classy and get on the local artisan bandwagon, but it just can't pull it.
I had the Southwestern Salad today. Â I got it to go. Â I guess you can make the argument that it was made with locally sourced ingredients since a lot of produce is grown in California. Â It seemed to be made of bagged lettuce like you can buy at Costco (source: Â Salinas). Â The chopped black olives were of the Lindsay variety, so yes they too are "local" since they are grown in the San Joaquin Valley. Â Ditto for the green onions. Â There were very few tomato slices in the salad, but the ones that were in there seemed to come from the same source as the ones you get on a sandwich at Subway. Â
Let's move on to the "chicken" in the salad. Â It was the processed luncheon meat variety. Â It was more of a garnish then an ingredient.
The pre-shredded cheddar and the tortilla chips were straight outta Trader Joe's. Â
The kidney beans were pretty good and whoever made the salad was generous with them.
Avocado seems to have been left out of the salad.
$9.75 later and I am still very hungry.
Roxx is clean, but that's about all it has going for it. Â It's overpriced. Â The quality is comparable to convention center food.
BRAVO!!!
My family and I were on day 11 of our 12 day road trip and Roxx on Main was a complete and wonderful gem!
I have to first say how utterly impressed we are with the level of care, attention and service we received. Â I enjoyed the local wine flight and found a new love in Green Valley 2008 Cab! Â
Roxanne and her team really now have to cater to a family wanting to dine in a sustainable, local and organic restaurant for dinner. Â For the children they brought them a bucket of crayons and not just a menu to draw on but an entire coloring book in which to pull pages from to color. Â Super great! Â We ordered the kids meals - baked chicken nuggets (imagine that restaurants!) sliced organic strawberries (maybe three each but sliced it's plenty for little ones) and steamed brocolli with juice or milk included for $3!!! Â Bite sizes of healthy food at a reasonable price. Â But it only gets better - PARENTS - attention. Â We got special kid plates with the sections, a kid size cup that wasn't stryofoam or plastic that would go into the trash, but an actual reusable kid size cup. Â Now hold on for the topper ..... kid size silverware! Â Yep. Â They are thinking about the little person being happy and not making such a mess with big plates, cups and silverware. Â It's not too costly to add a dozen or so of these things in restaurants ..... for the life of me I don't get why everyone doesn't do it.
So onto the adult meals. Â We enjoyed ceasar salads with pickled red onions and sea salt croutons, their grass fed beef sliders with crispy and delicate onion strings and local cheddar cheese as well as their local fish tacos. Â
Since we all ate every drop of food on our plates we opted to share the amazing homemade strawberry ice cream as a family ($6 for two scoops was plenty for us all to enjoy). Â It was heavenly!
Most of the menu is flatbreads or other dishes based around breads. Â We were hoping for a larger protein dish and less bread - but we made it work and most importantly enjoyed what we ordered.
I think it is about time I gave Roxx on Main the props it deserves.
I have seen this place since day one. All I can say, is that what a wonderful way to 'class' up Martinez. I love the wine selection, the cute inviting atmosphere; close, intimate. Oh, and of course, super CLEAN!!! Staff is friendly, knowledgable, and with the new outdoor seating too, WOW! It just keeps getting better and better. I love the open mic night, and I know more nights of entertainment are coming.
Definitely brings a spark to Main St.
I love this place and will continue to talk about it.
Try it today.
Had the recommended daily special cup of chicken noodle with dumplings- seasoned perfectly, dumplings not gummy (which happens often with dumplings in general) but instead were tender, chicken freshly roasted this morning, and carrots/celery finish off this soup. Also ordered a roasted chicken sandwich on house-made ciabatta- also very good! Seriously that soup was somethin... got some to go, too! Ambiance was warm and comforting with a home-like feel, Roxanne was very sweet and humble about her amazing cooking. Great prices too. I'll definitely be back.
Review Source:I so adore Roxx on Main!
Its located in downtown Martinez on Main, ha ha hence the restaurant name. It's nestled neatly in between shops and my only gripe is that it can be better advertised for sure. My first time coming here, I happened to be walking down Main with my girl Chandra and we happened to pass by. Other than that, you'll miss it.
Had a celebratory lunch and the only place I could think of for fresh, healthy food was Roxx in Martinez. I never feel 'yucky' when I leave here. Definitely, helps keep me on my diet track.
They are reasonably priced and HUGE portions are given. I mean really big. Took half of my plate home lol. I got half a sandwich ($3) and half a salad ($4) I ended up with more of a whole sandwich and salad. The best part ever is: You literally build your own food. For my salad: I got romaine lettuce, carrots, jalapeños (what can I say? I like it spicy!) avocado ($2 for each item you put it on :/) tomatoes, mandarin oranges, apples, almonds (raw, although they did have candied ones too) cranberries, balsamic vinaigrette, white and red rice vinegar. So friggin' good! Well worth the price! Now, for my amazingly delicious sandwich: I got a light salami on a sweet French roll with mustard (no calories) pickles, pepperchinis, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheddar cheese and spicy pickled cucumbers. It was so delish. I can not begin to give this sandwich any justice. My friend Ariana got the BLT with a balsamic vinaigrette salad. Hers looked so good too. She even had to box what was left over up as well. I got an Arnold Palmer and to my surprise it wasn't sweeten as I hoped it wouldn't be. I almost regretted ordering this but I was very pleased to have a non- sugar beverage given to me. They also serve the kids' dishes so cute here. My lil' baby girl got a PB&J sandwich, with apples, a cookie and chocolate milk! They were served on a cute plate and the chocolate milk was in an appropriate cup for a child. Of course, my picky girl (she gets it from her Tia) loved her meal!
They are done remodeling the inside, but it didn't really look that different from when I last went. The only difference would be the little cards that you build your meal on that was in the center of the table is gone. Love the color scheme and decor of the place. The hardwood floor are clean, new and sleek. The chairs and wood finishes on the tables and chairs is a dark black cherry and compliments the paint nicely.
Of course, I will be back for sure. Their facebook page constantly updates the specials and whats going down on Main Street! Definitely think that everyone should give it a try.
Roxx on Main is my new favorite place.
I love my hometown, but its selection of good dining and a late night hangouts downtown (that doesn't involve a crowd of overly large white shirts and baggy pants) is hard to come by, which is why I was so surprised to see Roxx. The staff is amazing, the regulars are family, and even though the restaurant closes at 9, if it's hoppin', they stay open.
It really is a charming business and such a positive addition to the Main street.
Went looking for a place to get a salad and we coincidentally ran into this cute place. We ordered a great BLT and built or own salad both of which were so tasty. Will defiantly come again if in the area. The only thing I would say that coulda been better was the side salad that came with the BLt was very plain and the water glasses had spots. Other than that we loved!
Review Source:Martinez is definately struggling downtown. With all the people that come into town, a lot don't frequent local business during lunch or after work. With that being said, the dining experience and choices can definately turn off people. I avoided this place for a while because it wasn't always crazy busy at lunch. Could something be wrong??? The only thing wrong was me! Today I had lunch there and it was great. The quality of ingedients were excellent and the pricing was acceptable. The only issue I had was that lunch took longer than expected. It would be nice if they offered "express menu" options for those with less than an hour for lunch. If you can't make it for lunch, stop by after work instead of heading to Walnut Creek or Concord...or sitting in traffic. A business downtown with good food and good ambiance is hard to come by so try this one out.
Review Source:I remember looking at this space when it was empty. The owners have done a fine job of renovating and creating a very nice venue. I recently visited during an evening of art presented by the local art galleries and venues that display artwork in the Martinez Downtown community. The decor is wonderful and the staff very friendly. This place is a nice addition to the potential of a new vibe in Downtown Martinez.
Review Source:It's hard to reconcile our experience today with the ratings we have seen for this restaurant.  First of all it was uncomfortably cool, as if the temperature had been set for  the cook as opposed to the patron.  Soup was cold; sandwich was plopped down on a small plate without even a sprig of parsley or anything else.  It seemed that the attempt was classy but results were pretentious without cause.
Review Source:I've been there about 4 times - once for lunch and the rest for dinner. Â I've enjoyed everything I tried. Â The chicken sliders are really good, as is the London broil Crostini. Â Nice wine list (I'd like to see a little more selection), the prices are on mark. Â Great service and nice ambiance.
Review Source:I attended the Bubbles for Boobs fundraiser benefitting Friends of Faith (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.FaithFancher.org&s=76bcd4d4c59bb62daf2f782b0444fd3e989ff5890ff6c7a68141e8d9db306821" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.FaithFancher.…</a>) last night (10/19). As you can see from the pictures I snapped the venue was elegantly turned out, the staff professional and attentive. The food was simply elegant, truffled popcorn, chardonnay macaroni and cheese, pork roulades, champagne cocktail with grapefruit sorbet and to round it out mini chocolate raspberry cupcakes; each expertly paired with a scrumptious sparkling wine. Based on the pictures all of the attendees were enjoying themselves as much as I.
One couple from Oakland commented had they known where the restaurant was beforehand they'd have taken Amtrak. Something to keep in mind when traveling to Martinez.
In my opinion Roxx on Main is a great compliment to the burgeoning gourmet ghetto in Historic Downtown Martinez!
I've been back several times and love it.
I was last there on Friday for lunch. I didn't realize they had a Niman beef hamburgers and I was on-board. The burger was wonderfully tasty and cooked perfectly. Alyssa, our server, was attentive and fun. My friend with me enjoyed it as well.
As I read Kevin G's review, I can only wholeheartedly DISAGREE with him. Everyone I've talked with (most don't Yelp) always have really good things to say about Roxx. It's been my experience as well. Don't let one "spoiled apple" review keep you from trying Roxx.
Took the Family there on a Friday night. Not busy at all. Most restaurants in Martinez do their business during Lunch. Decor was nice. The Restaurant appeared clean. We sat at a table that on one side was bench seating and on the other was two chairs. The bench seating also had a couple of pillows for decor.
After looking the menu over, my wife ordered a flight of wine and I ordered a Belgium beer. We then ordered several small dishes.
The first to arrive was a London Broil Crostini which was delicious and simple. Crostini with a cream cheese/horse radish spread topped with thinly sliced London Broil and capers.
Next was a Marghertia flat bread pizza. This was for our five and three year old. They liked it but weren't enthused. The flat bread I thought, would of come with more herbs mixed into it but it was plain and so there was not a whole lot of flavor to the pizza.
We then were served a Caprese salad with Heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette. One of the tomatoes wasn't quite ripe enough so it was a little hard and bitter but the rest was good.
Next were BBQ Chicken Sliders. The slider had BBQ chicken on them and fried onion strings. We were served a local BBQ sauce from Concord that was more vinegar based. It complimented it very well. This was probably our favorite dish. I grabbed a card for the guys that make the BBQ sauce but misplaced it. It was from S......... Brothers out of Concord.
Last came a Meat and Cheese platter. The meats were Salami and Prosciutto and the cheeses were Dublinger and something else. Decent but at this point, more than we needed.
Last came dessert for the girls. They both got a Strawberry Sorbet. It was fresh and delicious.
We were definitely satisfied by the food and service and left happy. We will definitely return again.
Next time we will take it a little slower on the food so that we do not over order. A check can quickly double if you're not paying attention!
Food: 3
Service: 4
Ambiance: 3
Overall: 3
Mom and Pop Tapas is about all I can say.
- Wait staff is quite green. Â No clue that service is what brings people back. Â I felt embarrassed I brought my wife here on our rare date night out. I had high hopes for this place. Â They appeared 'packed' at 7 pm last weekend when they had five tables with about 10 people in the place.
- Entering the place was unimpressive. Â From the kitchen, someone yelled hello as if it was a sushi joint. Â They need to establish some sort of host station up front.
- Tables were kind of kicked all over the place. Â Nothing really elegant - no table clothes / candles / silverware - we waited 20 minutes for our drinks and water.
- The outside sign said "good brew", so was hoping maybe it was a rare find.... when I saw two of the tables with locals that had Budweiser on their table, I realized my idea and theirs was different. Beer selection was ok for any standard 'bar'. Â They did have Affligen Belgian, which is about all I would consider a 'good' beer. Â Wine selection was a 3.5 out of 5.
- Food was actually very good on its taste. Â Their strawberry flat bread was quite inventive. Â I give them a 4.5 on that for the construction and taste. Â I give the actual thick flat bread a 3 - so you can figure out the final total. Â We had another dish, which was basically the same.
- The menu after that was not very interesting, and since our server was so unengaging, I didn't want to waste any more time there. Â We had our one drink and two plates and left. Â I had hoped to experience something else but didn't see the need.
In Summary:
1) Establish a front host station
2) Fix your tables to make the area more inviting, not just scooted in the middle of your place, as close to the kitchen so there's less room for you to have to walk around.
3) Your menu is lacking something for Tapas. Â Sliders and Fish tacos, sorry, but might be good, but not what I Â think of when going out for a nice dinner... I can fit Cheetos on "Small Plates" too, but I just won't do it.
4) You had 6 people working that night, yet our one waitress visited us twice in the first 30 minutes of our visit with a total of 6 tables. Â That is not good, and should be worked on. Food as a whole was very good - Please work on your service.
Nice sandwich shop. Â Spare, clean decor with surprising twists on your basic sandwiches and soups. Â I stuck with a salad. Â It's a "build your own" type menu, which I wasn't expecting in a sit down diner. Â Fresh. Â Apparently the sandwiches give way to tapas in the evening. Â Would like to come back and try it out again at night.
Review Source:Roxx on Main is a really nice addition to downtown Martinez! The food was excellent, good portion sizes for tapas and the staff was attentive. The prices are very reasonable! I went for a "mom's night out" with some lovely ladies. Between the five of us we had two bottles of wine and 6 plates of food throughout the evening totaling about $125 after tip. Great deal! One of my favorites was the chicken with pesto aioli and the italian meats and cheeses with demi loaf was yummy too. It's fun to be able to go to a place like this without having to drive out to Walnut Creek. This is a great place for a date with your honey or a small group of friends. I will definitely be going to Roxx on Main in the future!
Review Source:I appreciate when a place keeps it simple. Â Especially when they make that simple really, really good. Â
Although Martinez claims to be the birthplace of the martini (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fthemartinifestival.com%2Fstory.html&s=7a942bf973b080eed64d76b7d4b6a1cb4e0a2495c77cb6a82d19e7439f4295c2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://themartinifestiva…</a>), you won't find any in here.  We chose drinks from their nice selection of wines.  Most glasses are $5 - $7 a piece and they don't skimp on the pour.  The pinot noir was a favorite at our table.  In addition to the wine offerings, they also carry a couple Belgian beers and the standard import/domestic options. Â
Four of us split six small plates, three of which were open face bites:
 - roast beef, horseradish cream cheese, capers
 - chicken, pesto, jack
 - salami, pepperoncinis, some sort of cheese I can't remember
The bites are simple, yet well thought out and prepared. Â The servings are not small by any means - these come six to a plate - perfect for sharing.
The smoked salmon filled puffs were delicious and the goat cheese with sweetened jalapenos was consumed quickly. Â (Admittingly, mostly by me.) Â This was my first experience with pickled jalapenos - they tasted like jalapeno jelly and the combination of cheese, jalapenos and crackers were a wonderful balance of salty, spicy and sweet. Â The vanilla cream pastry puffs were a lovely end to the meal. Â
The only dish I didn't like was the antipasto. Â Tuna with a plethora of pickled vegetables. Â It was way too sweet for me - just not my flavor preference. Â
The service was extremely friendly and attentive from start to finish. Â I don't think any of our glasses were ever empty before someone asked if we wanted refills and the empty plates were cleared from our table as quickly as we scarfed down the food. Â The chef made a point to stop by our table to ask us if we liked everything and to talk and joke around for a bit. Â
This is a great addition to the downtown area and I hope to return for more drinks and eats.
I have been following Roxx on Main via their Facebook page since they opened and the soups have been calling for me to come visit. I finally had a chance to stop by today and lunch was delicious. I had the soup special, Chicken Vegetable soup with Dumplings, and a half turkey sandwich. My girlfriend and her little girl split the Split Pea Soup, macaroni salad and a baguette. Very, very good soups. And the price can't be beat. Great service and friendly staff. Stop by and support a locally owned restaurant in Martinez! Planning my next trip back already.
Review Source:Wow, More than I expected. A Small cute place downtown with great atmosphere and warm friendly hosts. The wine is great and awesome prices also the sweet jalapeño pepper cheese plate is to die for. What a great addition to downtown. A must for the locals and a treat for those in the Bay Area, I will be back for sure.
