Rudy''s appears to be a staple in the community. The walls are covered with autograph photos, awards, and certificates.
Food was good, we were there for a special event so it was buffet not order off the menu. As I do not drink alchol I cannot say for the drinks, but they were always announcing specials. Towards the end of the event there were some people dancing.
DJ was annoying, deafeningly loud while people are talking.
Have been coming for several years and find the place clean, pleasant and friendly. The food is as close as you can get to homemade and very easy on the wallet. Mario, the bartender is always ready with a smile and a hearty "Hola." His Michelada mix is fresh and original. The complimentary soup and salad bar is fresh and tasty if you are not too fuzzy about your food. It is simple but fresh.
I usually go for the lunch Taco special for under $4 dollars you get a hearty meal with fresh beans and rice and two heaping tacos that will feed a realkly hungry guy or shared between two not so hungry people.
Rudy, the owner, is a fixture and his easy-going and generous personality have endeared him to the group of friends and coworkers who have made Rudy's a staple of our lunch circuit. The food is not gourmet or even fancy. But it is hearty, fresh, economical and most of all made with love and pride. The cook in the back a very decent and accommodating. He will whip up whatever your heart desires and will do it with a demeanor that is disarmingly humble which belies technical prowess in the kitchen.
I don't do superlatives as a rule. Often you read words such as "Amazing" "Wonderful" "Excellent" "Awesome, " etc., when reviews are written. The best compliment I can pay Rudy's the restaurant and the people who make it work is that although I am not Mexican, every time I go in I feel like coming home to the warmth and goodness that one feels stepping inside your own door.
Came here last night for my friends 40th. This place is small and they packed it in. This place looks like it used to be an old Mexican restaurant. I didn't care for the tight set up. The mixed drinks were horrible. Since when does a Long Beach Ice Tea come clear. I asked the bartender, "this is a Long Beach Ice Tea?" She said, "Yeah it is." I said its not clear and she said well it is a LB Ice Tea. I guess she knew right. Bartender is always right not the customers. And guess what? It did not taste like a LB Ice Tea and tasted like sh!t. She even messed up on Cranberry & Vodka. Seriously? I didnt have dinner so I cant comment on that. Only came here for the party. I doubt I will ever return for dinner or drinks.
Review Source:Went there last Friday for happy hour and karaoke. The drinks are great. Â Staff is nice. KJ is real cool. I live around the block so it's easy to get to. For those who drive it's a little difficult to park so one could park at the nearby parking lots. This place is also accessible by the Gold line train (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmta.net&s=2d642b89d48248ced2016ddc26ae8bfac83b777373ff62e5bff980bd532a2836" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://mta.net</a>) as it is nearby the Atlantic station. It's a very spacious sportsbar with room for dancing. I would go there again for sure.
Review Source:Went with a couple of buddies on my birthday last month..still like the place but dang the bartenders still are trying to double charge and overcharge you for drinks...do yourself a favor never ever run a tab here they will snake you. Â It's hard to have a good time when you are trying to explain that you already paid. Â I always tell them that i never want to run a tab and that i pay for each round as i go and they still come back and say i owe for that last round...it's a problem because they look at you like you're trying to pull a fast one...but it's really the other way around
Review Source:We booked a baby shower party here for the whole night and the day of the event, the owner had over booked and there wasn't enough tables for everyone!
The food was ok, the first batch of Enchiladas was good, but the second batch was bad and we had to pay extra for them after paying so much money already!
The owner is a nice man, but his business sense lacks common sense! You don't over book parties if you don't have the room!
Bartenders and Servers were very nice and provided excellent service.
DON'T BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE!
You have a better chance of getting decent food at King Taco than this place. Now i remember why we don't come here anymore.
Go for the drinks and music only but you have been warned.
Just visited this place last weekend for a friends birthday party.
The drinks were outstanding, services was friendly and fast. I didn't have to hunt my server down for a drink.
They offer a buffet dinner that was really limited but delicious. I am craving the refried beans now and some sort of beef with potatoes really good.
We stood for the comedy show and it was surprisedly really good for a little hidden bar. I laughed through the entire show. After the Comedy show there is a dj playing music and the tables cleared at one end for a dance floor ,it was a good time!
I will defiantly come back again :)
Came here this past Saturday to celebrate a friends birthday, paid $10 for a small Mexican buffet & to watch a comedy show. Best $10 I've spent in awhile!! Food was average but for $10 what do you expect, comedy show was excellent!! All the comedians were great & I believe there was 5 of them & even a surprise guest comedian! Our waitress Martha was very courteous & attentive wished all waitress' were like that here alas they weren't. Numerous times a blonde haired "fidgety jittery" waitress would come by our table & try to take our bottles of beer. Mind you they were not empty but this lady felt the need to reach over & pick up every bottle! Hellooooo it still has beer in it!!! Mind you she would come by every 5 mins in one instance I was still holding onto my bottle & she still tried to take it!! Bathrooms could've been bigger & smelled better pretty sad that the rank smell was obvious even before you entered the bathroom oh & the toilet paper is way up on the wall above the toilet WTF?! Next music was ok I  guess it was 80's all nite because that's all they played I can tolerate a mix but not just 80's all nite, alas it was time to leave Martha shook our  hands to thank us wow that was above & beyond of her. FYI the smoking area seems to be at the entrance didn't appreciate having to endure the smoke on the way in & out they need to designate another smoking area. I would come back for the comedy show & Martha.
Review Source:Rudy's is not actually a new establishment. Â It was a former Mexican restaurant with lots of history. Â Â I guess they eventually sold the business and that's where Rudy's set up shop. Â
Decor gets an A. Â Nice, ambient mood-setting lights. Â The Christmas decorations were placed perfectly and the lights had a warm glow. Â Lots of comfy chairs and booths. Â Â Lots of LCD televisions set up at the bar so you can watch the game. Â Live band on weekends
Service gets an A rating as well. Â Servers are friendly and come up to your table to check on your every 5-10 minutes - almost to the point of becoming annoying, but I appreciate the effort.
Then....................................came the food. Â Â Absolutely garbage. Â We order two staple plates that any Mexican grill restaurant, I think, ought to get exactly right: Â Chicken fajita plate and Carne Asada plate. Â Â Very uninspiring. Â Â Rice tasted like some cheap Rice-a-Roni and the refried beans probably came right out of the can. Â Â The meat on both plates was tough and over salted. Â Â Â Salsa verde was extremely salty, as well
I really wanted to like Rudy's but they didn't want to like me back.
