My first experience here was great, the bartenders were super friendly and helpful. The drinks are good and a really good price.
My go-to drink is a moscow mule, not all places serve it since not all bars carry ginger beer. Not only did was the bartender able to make me a really good moscow mule, but he was also able to customize it with added jalapeno just like I asked without any hesitation.
I would definitely come back to the bar more often!
If you find the service a bit slow and you will, it's possibly because the bartenders are busy writing the good reviews here or more interested in serving people who've arrived long after you. Â Anyone who finds this place affordable, I'd like in on your bank account. Â As for the drinks themselves, they are amateurish in flavor and kick.
Review Source:Worst bartender service ever!!! I waited 7 min to order a drink at the bar the first time i went. This time i was ignored for 10 minutes while i waited right next to the bar. People that came after me kept getting served. Missed a lot of the band waiting. So i left. Too bad. The music's good but I'm not going back thanks to the way i was treated (or not treated actually)!
Review Source:I love this place. Â The bartenders are great! Â It gets busy but they do a great job of getting to everyone as soon as they can. Â I have never experience or seen them be rude. Â
The special drinks are great. Â The Fallon's Revenge is great, jalapeno and cucumber sounds strange but taste great. Â I also like this new berry drink they are making.
It is a good place to go watch the game or just enjoy a sunny day out in the patio area. Â There is usually live music on weekends.
Solid beers on tap (Stone IPA, Racer 5 IPA, and Anderson Valley Brewing Co's Boont Amber make it into regular rotation) at around $6/glass. If there's no room at the bar, you can take your beverage and wander around the whole of San Pedro Square - it doesn't seem that there are alcohol restrictions in any area.
Bonus - parking validation for the lot across the street!
Getting to sit outside and still watch my Sharks/Giants games? Sign me up anytime. Good selections of beers, and with all the other small restaurants in the market its easy to bring multiple friends with their own food preferences here. Just make sure to get here early to get a good seat.
Review Source:I came here this past Friday with a group of friends. We wanted to have some drinks, but it was a Friday and we weren't really prepared to do it BIG. Some days you just don't feel like raging. So, we thought we would come here. This place is weird. It looks like something you would see in Seattle's Pike Place. I want to say that it's like a farmer's market but enclosed. The place itself is very open. They have a bunch of counters where they serve food and drinks. In the middle they have tables and stools for you to sit on. In the back they have tables and outside there are more tables. There were a lot of people there since the Sharks game had just ended, but that just made the place seem a little more alive. It seemed like everyone there was around my friends and my age - late 20's/early 30's. That was nice, since sometimes being around the newly 21 year old crowd can be annoying and just too much. Since we had just eaten we were there for drinks only. We pretty much all ordered beers. Then we found a table in the back and sat and talked and b-s'ed and all that. It was a good time. I would come here to this place for just that - drinks and hanging out. Don't come here expecting to go crazy.
Review Source:I have gone to this bar on several different occasions as I live and work in downtown. I  have been extremely happy with all changes to the old Peralta Adobe house ground and think this new business is great for San Jose. However, last week I visited the San Pedro Bar around 5pm and had the most horrible experience. The bar was not crowded at all, but my partner and I waited 10 to  be acknowledged. The busser takes pity and asks us: I had a beer and  she had a vodka soda.  He gets my beer and relays our order to the bartender. We got our drinks sat down outside and enjoyed the beautiful sunny day. When we were ready for round 2, I had noticed that she had made a michelada for another customer. So, I ask my partner to order me a chavela (beer cocktail). My partner walks over --again the cold shoulder. They ignore her. Finally, the male bartender waits on her. She orders a vodka soda and a chavela for me. The bartender scoffs and says "What do you think this is, Chacho's!?"  walks away and refuses to make the drink. My partner had to wait for the other bartender to make it. Immediately we close our tab. This is the most RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC discriminatory treatment I have ever received. I love this place and its a shame that management allows such behavior. I am disgusted and saddened to have this kind of bigoted staff at the Historic Peralta Adobe House grounds. Shameful San José.
Review Source:This is a complaint about the experience I had last night  (3/20/13) not SP Square overall which I think is really coming into its own.
I ordered a beer and a glass of wine for my wife. My wife immediately noticed that the wine was corked. I got a bartender's attention and told him it was corked. He told me that was impossible because he just opened it. I tried to explain that it didn't matter and he got super defensive calling me "bro" and again explaining that he just opened the bottle of wine. I told him he should taste it if he didn't believe me.
The other patrons at the bar were starting to get uncomfortable as we had this little standoff. I finally asked if he was seriously not going to replace it and he gave me  "Shhah bro, I'll replace it" and begrudgingly replaced it from a new bottle.
I was shocked that a bartender could be so ignorant of a common problem with wine. He should've just set the bottle aside to send it back to the distributor and problem solved. There was no need and no financial reason to be so defensive and unprofessional.
I regret that I left a tip before we noticed that the wine was corked because it was the worst professional bar service I've ever received.
I've come here a few times and I really like that you can get a large variety of gourmet food here. Â This way, if you and your friend have totally different tastes in food, you can still eat dinner together and both be happy! (Yes, I'm master of the obvious.) Â There are plenty of great beer on tap here as well.
Review Source:They have a decent amount of liquor, and the price for a strong cocktail wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - $8 for something on par with a Long Island. The service was breathtakingly rude, though. When I ordered the Alabama Slammers for my friends, the bartender gave me attitude like she didn't believe we could handle it, and then poured very lightly so that it was more like juice with a dash of vodka. It is not your job to decide how much we can drink, it's your job to make a drink according to the recipe. I didn't order a drink for myself because I was driving, and she huffed about it like it was a waste of time to take my order over anyone else's.
Later the bar was visibly busy with people waiting for drinks, and she stood there while the other guys hustled, reapplying her lipstick in the big mirror behind all the alcohol. What a pro.
I'd like to come back here, since it was a fun atmosphere with the rest of the businesses in the marketplace, and had a ton of seating inside and out, but probably won't until there's a change of staff.
Good drinks, great location, but pricey!
I love the location of this bar - it's great to be able to order drinks here and then sit anywhere you want in San Pedro Square. I also like how the bartenders will come by your table and take your order - it beats having to fight your way to the bar on crowded nights.
However, I do think the mixed drinks are pretty pricey. I ordered a raspberry mojito and was surprised to hear that it was $11 - that's almost a Singlebarrel price!
I'll admit that the mojito was very good and had lots of fresh raspberry - I think I just experienced a bit of sticker shock since I hadn't seen a price list before.
I'd definitely recommend checking this place out - it's really part of what makes San Pedro Square such a great place to spend time!
Okay, I gave them another shot. Â I think that the bartender who was previously here who was causing all the issues is gone. Â They now have bartenders who are attentive and make good drinks. Â
Thanks to the guy last night who made my friend her first pisco sour. Â I'm not entirely sure how to read that smirk he had-- amusement? Â irritation? Â agreement with our good taste? So ambiguous. Â I know it's labor intensive-- he even had to run across the bar to get an egg! Â I really appreciated all the hard work. Â He made a darn good pisco sour, too.
This place has matured nicely over the past year. Â The scene is full of all kinds of people, from downtown bankers to guys with beers to hip 20 somethings. Â The patio area is so nice (though I could do without the random TVs outdoors, they sort of ruin the vibe to me.) Â The other part of the market is finally starting to fill up with businesses too (cheese shop, treatbot), so this is really starting to become a destination!
I like to come here to watch sports games with my boyfriend.
The prices are fair and the big TV's are a real plus.
It gets crowded but we always seem to get our drinks rather quickly.
I definitely think its really convenient to have a bar in San Pedro Square in addition to food options. It really gives the whole place a great vibe and attracts a lot of customers I'm sure.
I see myself being here much more often in the future!
Came here for my birthday, and finally got to try this place. Â I had been to San Pedro Square numerous times, but only usually came here for a parking validation if anything. Â Tried one of their specials, the something-penicillin. Â Really good gin-based drink, definitely not watered down. Â They seem to have some pretty good cocktails here, no idea of the cost since a friend bought it for me, but very good overall! Â The atmosphere of this place is great! Â Although it is very busy on weekends, so expect to potentially sit outside in the cold. Â But there are heater lamps as well so it works out.
Review Source:Service is a little on the slow side but he didn't seem to mind. Â Actually I didn't mind either because we were there to enjoy the evening - to spend time w/ each other even though I was pretty peeved because his Pandora was on almost the entire time. Â
I like the fact that you can order practically anywhere inside San Pedro Square Market. Â You don't even have to get up because servers prance around to ask if you would like a drink and if you leave the tab open, they'll continue to ask until you close your tab. Â
If you're enjoying a Neapolitan pizza from Pizza Bocca Lupo, poutine fries from Little Chef Counter, or crab cake sliders from Sama-Zama either inside the gourmet food court (San Pedro Square Market) or on their outside patio, you can satisfy your alcoholic needs here.
This bar gets busy, but they in addition to ordering at the bar, they do have table service.Very impressed by that! Our server was friendly, fast and and really nice.
The service was better than at a lot of bars, (some higher end) that I've been to.
Drinks are pretty good, and very reasonably priced.
If I was at the the market again, I'd definitely come back here:)
Situated amongst various food options; this place was packed on a Friday night! I recently discovered this place about a week ago and it reminds me a little bit of the Oxbow Market in Napa. A good place to come with friends - it can get a bit loud; depends on the game that's on and if you're a little bit more under the influence ;) Lots of food options around as well if you're having cravings while you sip on that cranberry & vodka .. at least, that's what I had. Drinks were reasonably priced, but a little bit on the weaker side. 3 stars for the bar itself.
Review Source:I would rate San Pedro Square Market Bar 3 out of the standard 5. Three points because that's how many free drinks I had. I keep giving this place a chance but I've had a better time in the backseat of a cop car then this place. Seriously.
P.S. I went on a lookout for a potential sugar daddy in my house slippers. Conclusion: It's fucking gross out there. Don't trust a guy that will let you pinch his nipples before you get his name. Or doesn't have chest hair. Or doesn't eat meat.
The Bar is in a pretty sweet little open market in downtown San Jose. For food, there's lots of options to choose from - pizza, hot dogs, fun American fancy food, tacos, Greek food - something for everyone. The bar is inside the market, right in the middle of all the food places - they serve delicious beer (Allagash White, my favorite on tap!) Â A couple large flat screens on the walls, so you can sit, eat and watch sports.
For this entire places there's only a two stalled bathroom - don't think the bar has anything to do with that, but gotta point that out.
Will definitley be back!
Stopped by here on Friday night after dinner with an old co-worker and knew that there was an SJSU Alumni night going on here. Â Came sometime after 9pm where the event was supposed to be winding down but was still very busy. Â A mix of young and old Alumni that night. Â I've been here plenty of times but never really got the chance to grab a drink specifically here. Â Once we got to the bar, I stupidly asked the bartender if they had any discounts for the SJSU Alumni tonight. Â Then I remembered that it was actually for Blush that night and ended after 9pm. Â
Go to drink to start the night off was Jamison and Ginger Ale, and then the bartender suggested that we try it with Ginger Beer. Â I glady accepted the idea, and the drinks turned out a nice mellow yellow color. Â I like that this bar has these wooden drink stand things behind the bar so you stand and drink. Â This place totally fits that vibe. Unfortunately the drink were really underwhelming on strength, she needed to put more Jamison in there. Â One drink there cause I had to go and get ready to meet up for a friend b-day party after. Â I'll be back to the same square to try some of the food vendors pretty soon.
Love how this place is spacious and has a lot of seating (both inside and outside), but HATE how small the bar really is. It takes a good while to order a drinks with the millions of customers and 2 bartenders working.
Drinks prices are fair and what makes it even better is how strong they are!! I ordered the usual Jameson with Gingerale, and it was as if I was drinking it on the rocks.
Crowd is diverse here. SUPER packed when theres a game going on.
Would come here again!
Love to come hang out at this bar....especially if it's nice weather and I can hang outside. I've only had their beer (love the Scrimshaw...not such a big fan of the Shandy) and the wine, but their cocktails look pretty good.
Hard to order though if it's busy. And outside? Well the bring your beer in plastic. !!
But this is definitely a positive change for San Jose vibe.
Me and my brother wanted to kill some time in SJ Downtown, and we came  across this place. The bar is pretty good here. Do not miss the SMOKY MARGARITA. It is a fantastic drink, I would go here multiple times to just have this margarita. They add chipotle sauce and taco seasoning in it and have a rim of chillies on the glass.
The bar is a little expensive, so I would like to try it out during happy hours next time. But definitely a must try place, specially because of the location. They have outside sitting and live music on thursday and friday evenings (not completely sure of the timings). A fun place to hang out!
This place is great on weekends, especially with events going on such as the farmer's market or SJ Made. Packed bar with great access to other foods. Free to take your drink around. Affordable drinks with my favorite beers on tap, and a staple for the new San Pedro Square.
Great as a stop to your downtown San Jose adventures!
Of all the different choices in the vicinity, I think SPSMB is a neat addition, especially to SPSM. My reasoning?
Sometimes you want to watch some sports and not be committed. My example is the NBA Playoffs... I came watched the ending to some games that meant nothing to me but was curious and had a beer. When it was done, went home.
Not everybody might understand my reasoning but for those of you do - this is a good half hour time killer with no commitment and is as easy breezy as you can get.
Good:
- Draft selection is decent
- Nice, large TVs
- Food nearby
- Feeling of not being in a "bar", while being in a bar
Bad:
- Once it gets crowded, it's a hot mess. This only happened once to me during shark playoffs. I stood and watched the game on the patio. Acceptable
+ They validate parking for the 2nd Street garage
+ They pour wine and shots with a heavy hand (aweeesome)
+ Plenty of room to hang out during the evenings
+ Outdoor seating to enjoy nice summer nights
+ Don't have to worry about getting stabbed downtown
The only problem I've experienced is that the wait to order a drink can sometimes be long
I came on a Friday night around 10PM and there was plenty of room at the bar because people here were actually polite. They came for a drink and left so you have no problem ordering and getting someone's attention.
I ordered a martini here that was super sweet and seemed like none of the alcohol affected me...until I left.
Get a drink here on your way to or from Blush! The people here are fun and you can say that you barhopped in downtown SJ even though these two places are like 2 feet away from each other.
Ok so I can't prove that THEY took my card, it took them great time and expense to prove themselves innocent. I still have my doubts but to be fair to the bar, I wrote that angry. I STILL go here to this day and the manager, Mike Maida, despite this kind of off-putting review comp'ed my drinks for my girl and my friend for the night after a brief talk about the whole issue. All is done, I am still a patron to this day and I absolutely adore this bar and the creativity behind the entire San Pedro Market.
So I would like to just put this behind us Mike, and I was actually there no more than 48 hours ago!
Stay frosty guys,
Chris

This place is a work in progress. I think it will get better from here. I'd really like to see it a bit more organized BUT on the other hand, I love the small business' that are in the square market. The pizza place is really yummy. It's great for families too.
I can't wait for summer to get here so they can open the market outdoors.
I like SPSMB! This is such a spacy bar! I love how they have a lot big screens that are mounted to the wall so we all can have a good view of the game! Though it's kinda hard to hear the game even when it's not even crowded.
This bar kinda reminds me a of food court since they have a few selection of small restaurants inside the bar. I've tried the pizza and it is DELICIOUS! Can't wait to try other food they have to offer as well!
I love the 'backyard' of SPSMB, it's huge! It a really chill spot to sit, drink and eat and get to know someone kinda place. They have two restrooms which is great because other bars have really long lines!
Overall, I would recommend at least checking this place out!
On a not-so-good note:
It's kinda odd to have such a big bar with a small crowd. It makes this place seems dead all the time. I wish it was crackin'! Turn into some kind of night club at night! Make this big spacy bar useful- since San Pedro Square mostly have sports bar only; it'd be nice not to have to walk to 2nd street to get my dancin' on. haha!
Good beer selection, great location and awesome place for a bar when you are eating... but bad bartenders.
The bartenders flat out ignore the customers. Â This has happened to me more than once and to friends as well. Â Standing at the bar, in plain view, I was ignored. Â The bartenders are doing everything but looking up, making eye contact and asking what I want. Â This was a fairly slow sunday afternoon and there were 2 people behind the bar. Â I'd say it took 5min for either of them to actually look at me and say "what can I get you?"
The same thing happened to some friends on a Friday night, completely ignored (and another patron next to him was also ignored and quite irritated) and to my GF that same night.
Its too bad, a good, efficient bar here would be great. Â Heres to hoping it gets better.
This little nook in downtown San Jose is like a little slice of Brooklyn. Â There is a cool bar and several newly opened restaurants housed here which are very tasty! Â
There are seats and bar tables sprinkled around the different vendors as well as some nice communal seating in the back. Â Looks like some great outdoor space for when it warms up a bit. Â Def check out the pizza at Pizza Boca Lupo-it was the most delicious pizza I have and since the big move from Brooklyn where pizza is king.
The lighting could be better-they need to bring it down a notch to make things feel cozier and more romantical.......definitely heading back to the square...
