The Sanibel Grill and The Timbers Fish Market are at the same address. The Sanibel Grill is more of a sports bar but the food is the same (almost) as The Timbers. We each got a cup of their wonderful hot clam chowder and each had a crunchy grouper sandwich. Plentiful and delicious. Can get crowded and a bit noisy, but overall, good. Will return.
Review Source:Sanibel Grill is our favorite restaurant on the island. It is the first place we go when we come on vacation. We spend the month of December and go there once a week. My kids and grand kids arrive after a couple of weeks and even the little ones request the grill for the  Crunchy Fish.
I have have tried the Crunchy Shrimp in literally every place on Sanibel and Captiva and you can't get better fried shrimp anywhere...their cocktail sauce is by far the best! We are on our way to Sanibel now for a week in May...tonight  I will get the shrimp! The other thing that I think is worth mentioning is the staff and management is terrific and the restaurant is totally kid friendly. It is a bar but still caters to families on vacation. Having said that, it is not bar food by any means. They know what they are doing. They have several Asian dishes, burgers and terrific salads. I am always tempted to get other dishes but  can't resist the shrimp! I almost forgot, you have to have a beer with their artichoke dip. If that doesn't start your vacation off right nothing will.
Great spot to catch a game and a bite to eat. Plenty of TV's. we had he grouper bites. I expected greasy and they were not. The peel and eat shrimp were yummy. My father-in-law had the blackened fish and loved it. My son had the shrimp and fries and ate it all. The onion rings were decent. It was jammed for the NCAAs so the service was a little slow.
Friendly and affordable. We'd go back.
Been coming here for years and it's exactly the same...a very good sports bar where sports bars up north could take a lesson. Â A varied menu from your normal bar treats to full blown entrees.
For this tropical locale, the wings are excellent, the best on the island. Â Tonight I had the Thai sweet chili wings...as good as they sound. Â I followed up with the Beth's Crunchberry salad. a very large salad chock full of nuts, gorgonzola, dried cranberries and a bunch of other salad goodies. Â I should have brought half of it home with me as I was filling up, but I am a fucking pig, so I ate it all. Â Well, it's only a salad after all. Â ;-)
My friend had the crunchy grouper basket. Â A large amount of very fresh grouper, battered and fried sooooo crispy, and served with very good fries...Sanibel's answer to that timeless English tradition, fish and chips.
An excellent Florida IPA just added to the experience.
A ton of TV's with multi-games going on, and a super collection of sports memorabilia unrivaled at least in this south Florida area.
Take that, shitholes in Philly!!
We came here twice on our vacation. The food is good, the servings are huge and the drinks are awesome. The service is average... Definitely recommend the burgers and wings but quesadilla not so much. Let this not lead you to believe that we won't be back because we definitely will on our next trip. They had like every NFL game on and really good crowd of Giants fans- what's to complain about that?
Review Source:I came here on a recent vacation to Sanibel Island with my husband, sister, and her husband and we ended up dining her twice. I would be lying to say that we dined her twice for the amazing food - we came here again because the food is good (you get a lot for your money), the service is good, and the atmosphere is laid back and lends itself well to conversation. They do trivia at the bar - which looks like fun!
The Timbers is one of our must restaurants when we come to Sanibel, and my sister and her husband started to go to the more affordable grill next door. I was pleased to see that the menu is not too big, and they offer quite a few daily food and drink specials. It was a nice touch that our waitress remembered what we ordered on our second visit, and commented that I was the only one that strayed from my original order.
On my first night, I got the crunch Shrimp basket. They use a blend of Special K and corn flakes for the batter, and it is delicious! I found that I could not finish the large portion of shrimp and fries. It felt wasteful! The cocktail sauce is delicious! The pinot grigio that I got to go with my meal tasted like nail polish remover. Oh well! :) When you are on Sanibel, it doesn't seem to matter much.
On my second visit, I got Beth's Crunchberry Salad (not the most appetizing title for a menu item - sounds a bit like a salad covered in 80's kids sugary cereal). The salad is just ok - nothing to write home about. The greens drowned in dressing - and there was not enough gorgonzola cheese or walnuts. I would add avocado and tuna - but that is the Californian in me. I would not recommend this salad for future visits.
The popular menu item seems to be the Combination Basket (crunch grouper, crunchy shrimp, and fries) - a lot of food for your money, and tastes yummy! I think it is big enough to split.
I think that i will be back to the Sanibel Grill with family on my next visit. There is definite room for improvement, but overall - this is a solid choice for a drink and a snack or a dinner on Sanibel.
I am rating The Sanibel Grill in the category of sports bar, and I think it is a "five" in that category, but it is also quite an excellent restaurant even if you are not so interested in sports. Â The crunchy grouper sandwich and grouper/shrimp basket are excellent, and we have had them quite a few times. Â Food is consistently fresh and tasty, service is always friendly and efficient. Â The restaurant has a nice happy ambience.
Review Source:We came here because a friend recommended it. Â We were looking for a reasonable, casual meal. Â We liked the appetizer menu well enough that we decided that would be dinner. Â Oysters were good, peel-n-eat shrimp were good. Â I really liked the grouper bites. Â We had potato skins that were average. Â The least appealing was the quesadilla, which seemed like it was cooked in a greasy pan. Â Service was fine when we went. Â I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. I'd definately go back as there are more tthings I'd like to try but I'd so far, rate the place as average.
Review Source:My mother and I arrived at this little establishment at about 4:30pm because she was starving and we wanted to get in and out as fast as possible. We were seated next to a group of four who had just arrived at the same time as us. My mom and I, and the group of four ordered simultaneously. My mom ordered an iced tea and when it came we thought it was water. There was an incredibly slight difference in taste between her tea and my water. I don't much care for iced tea, but sugar water on the other hand...
My mom was salivating as we watched the table of four receive their appetizers within just two or three minutes of ordering. Our appetizer came out about twenty minutes later. We had ordered spinach dip and we couldn't help but laugh throughout the whole experience. There was nearly no actual spinach in it, but it was topped with mounds of sour cream, bacon and onions...? Okay sure... "bar food"... I can deal with it. After inhaling the "spinach" dip with grease dripped nachos and running through a handful of napkins, our stomachs began churning incessantly. The grease was just gurgling around in our stomachs. We both thought, "Some actual food better come soon to settle this grease".
- 40+ Minutes Later -
We were considering just leaving the restaurant because we had been there for over an hour without getting our meals or even a notice from the space-cadet waitress. The group of four who had come in at the exact same time as us had been given their meal and check and had left before we even saw our meals. I was growing very bored of watching our terrible waitress chit-chat and giggle with her girl friends in the back of the restaurant by the registers.
When the food came, my mother was served an ACTUAL take-out box of truly raunchy chinese food... on a plate. Why put it on a plate if you've already given up? And then it all suddenly seemed so clear... maybe they ordered to-go from another some chinese restaurant? They must have, for that would explain the agonizing wait. I just couldn't help but laugh. I love bar food, but this was not bar food. This was bad food. Anyway, I Foodspotted it as a joke and then looked down fearfully at my shrimp quesadilla. I took one bite and as the grease rolled down my chin and stomach began to gurgle once again, I gave up hope entirely. It was nearly tasteless and redefined "Greasy".
After the food, we waited for our waitress to finish chit-chatting with her friends and give us the check. Ten or so minutes later, she had a minute to bring it by. She was nice but clearly could not care less about our service. I love tipping. I understand what it is like to work at a restaurant. It was probably the first time I have ever considered not tipping. I threw 5% on the table for no good reason.
There are many places that are bar style food places on Sanibel Island that are significantly better than this place. Avoid at all costs... last resort only.
The atmosphere is great, but the food is terrible!
My husband and I went here to watch The Bills game during our trip...the "Let's Go Buffalo" chants were exciting, but couldn't make the meal any better or the service any faster :(
The so-called Buffalo stlye sauce was the worst rendition I have ever tasted. The chicken wings were tasteless - my husband (who usually eats his wings down to the marrow) couldn't even finish them. The crunchberry salad was doused in a vinegarette dresseing that was all vinegar and no "ette". Â
I would go here for to drink and  game but definitely not a meal.
Love the patio area, nice place for a drink or two. Â No table service on the patio, but you can order drinks and food at the bar and carry them out. Â Last time we visited we sat on the patio and watched the Derby with a table of Sanibel locals, including a four-legged one! Â It was one of the most fun and entertaining meals we had during our stay. Â The food is good and the staff are nice.
Review Source:Probably one of the only late (midnight) spots on the island. Â Had a nice time at the bar watching the Cubs/Sox game. Â Considering during turtle season (Apr-Oct) anything on the water closes at 6PM (yes the tiki bar at the Holiday Inn on the beach closes at 6 pm) this was a good place to find for a beer and ballgame.
