    This place is absolutely beautiful!

The acoustics were great as were the bathrooms. The only downside is that they frown upon dancing in the aisles; that's okay though because we were surrounded by some pretty cool people who were also out of their seats shaking it in the rows.

I will definitely make the drive up here again to catch a show, and I will get tickets in the pit so I can dance my little heart out.

Being only 90 miles away from LA, this has to be one of my favorite venues.  It's intimate and the sound acoustics are great!!  I've been to almost all the venues in LA and this is by far my preferred place to go.

The bowl is tucked away close to a residential neighborhood and across the street from the SB high school.  The parking could be an issue, as it's $10 to park at the high school or you can just try your luck at parking in the residential neighborhood.  If you don't mind walking about 5 to 10 mins to the bowl, you should be good to go.

To reach the stage, your going to have to trek up this hill for a few mins then you'll get to the area where they serve the food and booze.  Right above the food area is the stage.  The pit is pretty big and clean.  I didn't get a chance to see how the seats feel, since I've always picked the GA floor when I come here.

The venue itself is pretty well organized and the staff there is pretty friendly.  The restroom is very clean and big.

We found ourselves in Santa Barbara last Friday to see Robert Plant in concert. As many of you know, he was the singer of the world-renowned band, Led Zeppelin. He may be a geezer now, but he & the band rocked out and played quite a few Zeppelin tunes to the thrill of the crowd.

There's some real bonuses to this venue, such as the hillside location, good acoustics, small size of about 4500 seats, and the availability of alcoholic beverages & spotless restrooms located mere yards away so that you don't miss a single beat while you're taking care of those necessities.

As others' have mentioned, parking can be an issue. We arrived somewhat early, parked the car near the entrance of the venue, and then walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner. It couldn't have worked out more perfectly.

Came here for the first time for a concert last night to see Ben Harper and Fitz & the Tantrums, and it was really magical. Built into the hillside, surrounded by trees, view of the ocean in the distance.  And, being in Santa Barbara, they served great wines (w/very generous pours).  Just get your drinks early if you can, the lines got LONG

Had my first visit to the SB Bowl tonight. I LOVE THIS PLACE!
    -Parking was easy breezy.
-Water was only $2 which is ridiculously cheaper than LA venues.
    -It is beautiful.
    -It is intimate.
-Workers are very friendly and helpful.
    -Bathrooms are clean and plentiful.
-Quick turnover of bands so the intermissions were very short.

I can't wait to see another show here.  Definitely worth a drive from LA.

The crowd I could do without since we were surrounded by douchebag drunks and chatty folk.

The only thing I didn't like was their lack of monitors by the merch/refreshment stands so you couldn't see the show while waiting in line.

On 6-30-12 I took my son to the Santa Barbara Bowl to see Ben Harper.  Though Ben and crew are a good band, we were really there to see that Santa Barbara Bowl itself in a live performance setting.  We were not disappointed.  I had read an article in Westways magazine and previously had never heard of the venue, which appears to show I have led a sheltered life, though not exactly being a "shut-in".

The crowd had a good vibe - it appeared it was mainly SB locals who are somewhat isolated from the real world in their little coastal setting.  Probably mostly students from UC Santa Barbara.  Probably mostly high on pot also.

It's a smaller venue that has been refurbished. Lots of history here that I read about at the time and then forgot.  Street parking, so it's free.  We'd come here more often, but its 135 miles away with a drive of about 2.5 hours.  Besides, the SB hotels are so overpriced - they like to suck our hard-earned cash to the max so they can hang in SB and be mellow (as Yelper Yuki M. from Irvine would say: "sucks harder than a hooker on welfare".  Different context, but that's OK). How nice for them to chill in their Birkenstocks while we do the stress-case thing in the L.A. Bowl zoo - if you know what I mean.  There's really nothin' much up there in SB anyways, but I do enjoy a good breakfast at Sambo's. Anyways, we liked the SB Bowl.

I feel sorry for people who will never experience this venue. It is truly the greatest venue I have ever experienced. I have been coming here since 1990 and hopefully will be able to continue the tradition. I've been here through all of the changes, and I just think its a magical place! Cant wait to see Depeche Mode september 2013!

    LOVE this place.

Compared to the Hollywood bowl, this place is AMAZING.  It is much more intimate, and the vibe is way more relaxed.

Parking in the SB high school lot is easy, as long as you get there early.

It would be awesome if they had a little market where you could buy more picnic staples like at the Hollywood bowl, but that is really the only thing that could use improvement.

Just saw Sigur Ros here recently, and it was heaven!

I love the size of this place. No where bad to sit and it is always a decently intimate atmosphere.

If you don't want to go back to get wine, the servers happily pour doubles into larger glasses.

Definitely one of my favorite places to see live music. The location is stunning and is tucked away in a hillside in a residential area. The venue is small and intimate, but very open due to the amphitheater set-up.  Even though I live in LA, the drive up the coast to catch a show is completely worth it!

I've been in the standing only pit for Beck last year, and was in the front row of the seated section most recently for New Order and both were great, but definitely depends what type of music it is, I'm not usually a big fan of standing all night. Standard beer and wine like the Greek, and parking is definitely a hike as you have to find street parking in the neighborhood, but you can pay $20 for valet right out front which is worth it if you don't want to sit in traffic trying to leave post-show.

As I trekked up the stairs, past the courtyard and into the venue at 7:35 p.m., I could hear Johnny Marr playing the Smiths "How Soon Is Now."  I was excited and wondered how far he was into his set.  Was this the first song?  Was he in the middle?  I knew he was scheduled to mix in three Smiths songs in his solo set.

As I was getting my pit wristband outside and all this was processing, the music stopped.  Okay, small break before the next song.  A minute passed.  I'm at the pit entrance... no music.  I missed the first and only opener... Johnny F__kin' Marr!  (For those of you that don't know him, it's a common saying of love about him, not a curse out, he even sells a t-shirt with the saying)

Lesson is, get here on time.  The ticket said the concert started at 7:00 p.m., but how many venues actually start their shows at the time on the ticket?  Zero.  Except for Santa Barbara Bowl.  I wrongly assumed the only opener wouldn't go on until 7:30.  Being a tad late couldn't have been avoided because I had to take 25 minutes to grab dinner after driving up from Orange County and not having lunch.

I was there to see New Order.  New Order came on at 8:20 and played until 10:05 p.m.  It was a good 1:45 minutes of bliss, and the earliest I've ever exited a concert.  I'm guessing this is because the Bowl is recessed into a residential neighborhood and there must be weekday noise ordinances that must be adhered to.

Venue - Gorgeous.  The pictures on Yelp do not do this venue justice.  With the sun going down and the stone tile architecture make it feel like you're at a nice garden getaway.  If you walk up the main path up to the venue, past the Jerry Garcia sculpture courtyard, you'll walk by beautiful trees and mood lighting.

Sound - Great sound.  I could hear the highs, lows, and vocals clearly from the pit.  Santa Barbara Bowl is comparable to the Greek Theatre in LA in size and mood, except I would argue that the Santa Barbara Bowl has better sound quality.  I also saw New Order at the Greek and could not hear the vocals very well there even though I was first row pit.

Parking - You can pay $20 and park in front of the bowl, our you can park on Milpas Street for free and walk a little bit (we are talking 1/4 mile at most).  The walk is worth it, because you'll avoid getting stuck in the parking lot trying to squeeze your way out.

Bathrooms - Clean and well lit!

I was beyond impressed with SB Bowl.  It may sound crazy, but I wouldn't hesitate to make the drive up here to see a show if another artist I loved was playing (like why didn't I go to Radiohead here last year?).  I have been to almost every venue in LA and OC... this is one of the best outdoor venues in Socal.  More intimate that Hollywood Bowl, easier to park at than the Greek or Hollywood Bowl, nicer surroundings and seats than you'd fine at Verizon Wireless in Irvine or at Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa.  Can't beat the Fairbanks Lawn at Hollywood Forever, but hey, that's an impossibly high standard.  Santa Barbara the city is beautiful and relaxing and the venue is equally so.  Get up here early and grab some food, do a little wine tasting and catch a show... I can't think of a better way to spend a day.

    Pros:
    - Lovely location
    - Great acoustics
    - Parking is fairly easy (compared to, say, the Hollywood Bowl)
    - Food was decent!
    - Fairly intimate, smaller venue

    Cons:
    - JFC, the SMOKING. Walking up the pathway to the Bowl, I saw "No Smoking" signs and thought, GREAT! Well, it's no smoking in the arboretum only, I guess. Once on the grounds, everyone is smoking, whether by the restrooms, or the concessions, or the beer windows. Plus, everyone's smoking DURING the show! The kid in front of us kept passing a joint and then blowing the smoke over his shoulder. He apologized to his neighbor at one point, and she said, "Yeah, I've got asthma, but it's okay!" You know, it's not okay. I just happen to be pregnant and asthmatic, and I'm really not in the mood to suck on someone else's secondhand smoke for hours on end.

    - The usual shenanigans... Mostly drunken/stoned fools. Saw a woman throw up all over the sidewalk immediately outside the venue. It's not a rave, folks; hold it together.

It holds an intimate atmosphere and there isn't a bad spot in the whole place.

What an awesome place to see a concert! My first one was for Don Henley and Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians  a number of years ago. Then I saw Don Henley again about a year ago or so. Most recently was the Fiona Apple concert. Talk about atmosphere! It's like being in an enchanted musical forest. So lush and gorgeous. The acoustics were fantastic. It's just an incredible beautiful place to go.

This venue rocks!! Every seat is I've ever been in has been excellent, even the "cheap seats" I've been in have all had excellent views of the stage, performers, etc. Although, I do need to get my timing down for heading to refill my beer, always end up spending the entire intermission in line, haha.

Such a beautiful place to see a show. Not too, too big, either. Get ready to climb, though, because you will be hiking up some fairly steep paths ( I climb hill regularly and I was winded) and also some steep stairs again. Really pretty, really great sound.

One of my favorite concert venues. This open-air amphitheater is tucked away in the lush hillsides of Santa Barbara and offers stunning ocean views and endless surrounding peace and beauty.

We watched nine-time Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt deliver one intimate and emotionally-charged performance. There was one point during the concert where everyone sat under the star-lit sky with rapt attention as Bonnie sang "I Can't Make You Love Me". It was raw, powerful and heart felt. It was truly special!

Santa Barbara bowls offers a wide range of musical performances, including classical, blues, pop, jazz, 80's, rock, hip-hop, R&B, rap and country. Past performers include Janet Jackson, Katy Perry, Lauren Hill, Zac Brown Band, Bob Dylan, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Stevie Nicks, Maroon 5, Norah Jones, 311, Journey and so much more.

There is a Ride & Dine option available, which covers your parking, all shuttle rides and a 3-course dinner for $50. Local dining partners include Pierre LaFond Wine Bistro, Opal Restaurant and Trattoria Vitorrino. The concession stand features fare from local restaurants and companies with reasonable prices.  We tried the crab wontons from China Delight, Giovanni's veggie pizza and a couple bags of gourmet popcorn. The pizza and the wontons were quite good but the popcorn was stale. Apart from the popcorn, there is nothing about this venue that is stale. Fresh fare, fresh wines, fresh design and lots of fresh air.

While the 2012 concert series is now closed (concerts are open from April to October), I'm looking forward to what 2013 has in store.

The SB Bowl presents a quandary for concert goers. It's location is spectacular and the recent renovation has created a modern yet rustic venue that is intimate for both the artist and the audience.

The problem is that the renovation didn't include a much needed parking garage. The result is that there is quite literally no place to park. Once the nearby school lot fills up, you're left scouring nearby neighborhoods (only to discover lots of unnecessary red curbs). This first hassle eats at least 30 minutes out of your evening.

Once you do find a place to squeeze your car into, that's when the next hassle begins. If  you're not in good shape, if you don't enjoy hiking and if you don't have comfortable shoes, do not attend a show here. It's a loooong hike - up a pretty steep hill - just to reach the entrance to the venue. Then it's another looong hike up to the reception space. Then it's another set of stairs or two to reach the seating area.

Elderly and handicapped best stay home.

Then there's the next hassle. The SB Bowl doesn't seem to care much about the guest experience. When the show ends and 4,562 people are all ready to leave simultaneously, the brain surgeons who operate this venue close off the much needed left side exit (that leads backstage or through an under-stage tunnel where the only restrooms are), forcing EVERYONE to try to funnel through a single exit.

Mass chaos, anger and frustration only begin to describe the experience. If there's ever a fire up here, you'd best bring marshmallows because you're going nowhere fast.

My wife is 8 months pregnant and talked one of the head tripping security guys into letting her go down the left side so that she could reach the restroom - but he wouldn't let me stay with her! He literally forced us to separate and attempt to find each other 15 minutes later after I'd made my way through that single entrance like a cow heading for the slaughterhouse.

Can you imagine a Disney employee doing that? This is Guest Relations 101, people.

The final hassle is finding your way out, moving in micro steps in a thick mass of bodies along a tightly fenced in path that must be 1/4 of a mile trek (it's far worse going up than going down).

To sum it up, the SB Bowl is a beautiful spot that offers a wonderful opportunity to see your favorite artists up close, but it's one hassle after another - parking, hiking, amateur crowd control, imbecilic security guards and, if all that wasn't bad enough - they make you wait in line to get a wristband to buy wine or beer (there's no bar). Who does that in 2012? Not the Hollywood Bowl. Not any sports venue. Not any reputable theater.

I'm sure if the folks who run this place could come up with some other ways to make things difficult and frustrating for their guests, they would. How 'bout a 10pm curfew? Oh, they've got that, too!

Unless you're got a VIP pass that allows you to park on site and a backstage pass to flash at the brainless security team, I highly recommend avoiding this venue until they change their ways and give a lot more thought to the guest experience.

You can see the same bands in LA - just 90 minutes south - with none of these hassles. You'll spend that much time here just searching for a parking spot and hiking to and from your seat!

Last night, I had the chance to watch the Black Keys perform right before my eyes! This venue is awesome!! A relatively small amphitheater (compared to the Hollywood Bowl and Verizon Amphitheater) so it was a very nice change. I was lucky enough to be about in the center of the stage and with only 3 rows of people in front of me. The sound quality was great! If you have the chance to purchase general admission tickets, DO IT! You get to be so close to the artists! It's amazing really. Even if you don't get those tickets, I feel like this venue is small enough that you will still get an amazing experience. Well worth the price!!

Oh and if you wanna buy anything, like drinks or food, make sure to bring cash!

I absentmindedly let TicketMaster pick the "best seats available" for the cheapest Beck tickets & ended up in the VERY center... of the VERY back. I was a bit dismayed at having "the best of the worst," but it ended up being a damn good call when I realized we were sitting in the VERY seats that ampitheatres are meant for so... big ups to Ticketmaster!

SBB is a perfect venue. The location is gorgeous & the size is "baby bear" (AKA juuust riiight). Even from our seats & with the people in front of us standing, we still had a clear, undisturbed view of His Loserness.

What a nice open air venue to hear a concert at.  Similar to the Greek and Hollywood Bowl but in a nicer neighborhood.  The acoustics were really good and there are alot of good restaurants to eat at in downtown Santa Barbara so it makes it very convenient.  Easy to get to and nice clean bathrooms.

Definitely want to go back to this venue.

This is the best outdoor venue I've been to. It's like a small Hollywood Bowl with the hassle.

    Sound quality is excellent.

The venue is fairly small (fits around 5000) so there's really no bad seat in the house. The smaller crowd gives the show a more intimate feel.

It's an excellent location right in the heart of beautiful Santa Barbara.

For parking, there are lots nearby as well as street parking.

Awesome venue location! First time visit and first time seeing Beck, so extra awesomeness.

People are laid back, security is cool, parking was close and inexpensive. Traffic wasn't bad at all, and I even saw people could ride their bikes and "valet" them??!? So weird to me but that's so damn cool.

Great sound, great weather, great energy.. I will be returning for more shows. :)

    Awesome venue.
    Awesome acoustics.
    Awesome lineups.

Kinda reminds me of the Greek Theater in Griffith Park without all the surrounding trees.
If you're from the LA area, I would recommend taking a date or a group of friends out to SB for dinner and a concert. The downtown nightlife is a few blocks down the street (driving distance). Why not make the best of a trip out there?

Dinner - concert - drinks - dancing.. sounds like a plan, no?!

I typically avoid live music shows & festivals because I hate crowds, being cramped & pushed around, not having a good view, long lines, porta-potties, etc.  I was definitely amazed by how awesome the Santa Barbara Bowl was...what an excellent place to see a show!

Beautiful, small, outdoor venue with assigned seating (except for general admission on the floor level by stage).  My seat was a front row on one of the levels so nothing interrupted my view of the stage.  Never a line for the very clean bathrooms and maybe the line for drinks, at the longest, was six people deep.  Crowd was pretty friendly and respectful...totally a pleasant experience.

Really loved the early show time as I got to enjoy some yummy California sun and a view of the ocean off in the distance before the sun set...but also very cool to have the moon out while watching one of your favourite bands.

The bowl is close enough to town that you can actually take a nice walk back to your hotel.

For me, it's definitely worth the trip to SB and hope to be back.

I've been to a lot of music venues in Southern California and the SB Bowl is BY FAR my favorite. It is an outdoor venue, but I have always enjoyed my experiences here more than at similar venues like the Greek or the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. I recently saw Florence and the Machine here and it was a wonderful show!!

Make sure to bundle up as Santa Barbara evenings can be fairly chilly. Parking is easy as long as you don't mind walking a little bit. BRING CASH (they don't take credit cards) so that you can get a glass of wine quickly, head to your seats and enjoy the show :).

Overall a great outdoor venue to see concerts. The atmosphere and view make for a very unique and intimate experience.

    Venue:
Because it's outdoors so you may experience rain or cold weather - be prepared. Dress accordingly or bring blankets on those really cold evenings. Also be prepared to walk up steep hills to get from the street to the bowl.

    Parking:
The Santa Barbara Bowl is pretty much located on a hill above a residential area. You'll have to find street parking and walk in. Arrive early as parking is difficult to find near show time.

This is one of my favorite music venues and in my opinion, one of the best outdoor music venues of all time.

Basically it's an outdoor "bowl" venue like the Hollywood Bowl but four times as small. I think capacity is a little more than 4,500. It means every seat is a good seat, even if you're in the very back. I was 3 rows from the very back recently and it still felt like I was really close. Plus the acoustics and sound are awesome throughout the entire venue.

The location of this venue is good too. It's right near downtown so you're not in the middle of nowhere. There's tons of trees and green so it kinda feel like you're out in nature. Plus in the near horizon you can see the ocean. I would definitely recommend you see a show here at least once in your life, even if you live as far away as Los Angeles (like I do).

    Tips:

    - If you get there early, you can park at Santa Barbara High School which is about $7. Or you can park in the residential neighborhood. There's plenty of parking but you might have to walk a quarter of a mile or so through hilly roads.
    - Because this venue is in a residential neighborhood, they have a curfew of 10:00 PM for shows. So most shows start earlier (6:30ish) and end by 10:00 PM.
    - Some shows will say no cameras and all shows don't allow outside food but the security guards at the front don't check that closely.
    - Most of the venue has actual seats except the last section is metal bench seats.
    - Shows are rain or shine so check the weather before you go to the show. They also don't allow umbrellas so bring a rain jacket or poncho if there's a chance of rain.

As I type this, my ears are still ringing from seeing Radiohead at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Overall, I would say it was a very positive experience.

This venue is small and relatively intimate, especially considering the fact that it seems to draw some pretty big names. The sound quality was excellent, however we were right down in the pit, and I gotta say I sorta wish I wore earplugs. Standing right under the huge speakers seems to have done a number on my ears. I don't normally wear ear protection when I go to concerts, but if I were going to another one here, and I were in the pit, I'd consider it. But overall, the sound mix and quality were great.

The only reasons I'm giving it four stars instead of five is because the parking was a bit of an issue, although we parked on the street for free in a neighborhood probably 10 blocks from the venue. The other problem was an exit strategy designed by Donald Rumsfeld when the whole shebang was over. A couple of serious bottlenecks made it very hard for the capacity crowd to get home to their loving families.

Overall though, a nice experience and I would recommend seeing a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl!

    Ummm...WOW.

Lovely, beautiful, almost intimate open air setting.  Every seat seemed to be a great seat as you could see the stage from every angle.  Acoustics rocked!  The place was packed but we weren't bumping elbows or anything.  It was fun to look up and see the local residents partying along to the music perched high above on their backyard decks.  We had the best time rockin out to our favorite band under the stars and I loved feeling the ocean breeze on my skin.

HOWEVER, that idiotic City Ordinance:  The show must end at 10 p.m. or else...$1,000 (or something like that) PER MINUTE fee after 10!  Holy Jeebus!!!  That's just plain redonkulous :(

Everyone has a great time at the SB Bowl.  I've seen two concert here - Maroon 5 & The Mars Volta - and I'll never forget them.

This place is one of, if not the best place to see a show.  From almost any seat in the house, you have a direct view of the ocean and as it gets dark you notice the lights of downtown SB.  The stadium is kind of small, which makes the concerts much more intimate; the perfect place for a date!!

On the downside the cheap seats are just glorified steps (nothing to lean your back on) and the stadium must shut down by 10pm because of the residential community where it's situated.

We saw an amazing Radiohead show here, which may make us slightly biased, but this is one of the best outdoor venues in southern California.  It has everything you could ask for:
    -Great Sound
-Good sight lines--not a bad seat in the place.
-Cheap & Easy Parking (a short hike away, but easy to find, no wait getting in or out, and only $7)
-Good beer selection at the bar
-Friendly, competent house staff ( mostly volunteers, I hear).
-Good traffic flow getting people in through security, ticket scan, etc.
    -Beautiful view & surroundings.

I don't know if this happens at every show, or if they only do it for sold out events, but there was a temporary bar and a set of  Port-a-Potties (surprisingly clean) at the very back of the venue, so those of us in the cheap seats didn't have to hike all the way down to the main entry area.  Despite all the people milling around and enjoying the view from up there, the bar had almost no wait.

Given the choice between this and the Hollywood Bowl, we'll go Santa Barbara every time.

WoW .... SB Bowl is fabulous.  I'd come back here in a heartbeat!!!!!  I came up from LA to see Michael Buble.  I saw him at the Greek Theater  in LA and just had to see him again, but will only see him at a small venue.  So when I heard he was back in town, I made it appoint to get floor seats at SB Bowl.

My seats were amazing (5 rows from the stage and to the left).  The sound was great, I heard every word and felt every belt.  Even the climb up the big hill wasn't so bad, considering what the pay off is. Thanks to fellow yelpers for the tip of good, comfy shoes. =)  I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the girls with the stilettos and having your comments running through my mind.

And you can't forget the views, I wish I could have enjoyed that a little more, but it was a horribly overcast day.

To all you Santa Barbara residents, you are SO LUCKY to have such a great venue.  Oh, and for all you visitors, I ended up just taking a cab to the bowl.  They drop you off as close as possible and you don't have to try and remember where you parked in an unfamiliar surrounding, while drunk and stumbling.  Cabs are nice and plentiful after the concert.

Well I figure I should review the venue I saw my first concert at since you ask who it was! :-)

I can not tell you what a wonderful place this is to see a show, particularly after their remodel.  It is a Santa Barbara landmark really.  My mom has told me stores of seeing Santana and other greats in the 70's.  Great assortment of performers and normally you can find parking around the Bowl in the residential area if you don't mind the walk.

No Doubt in the mid 90's is still one of my all time fav's!!
