I would be remiss if I forgot to mention the Beer Garden! Â Family owned and ran by family and friends. Â Mike, Kelli and the bunch are really friendly and nice people. Â Charles is the best beer server (No foam)!. Â Everyone likes to hang out during their swap meeting and after usually catching a game that's on. Â Lots of nice people there. Â If you need a refrshing beer during your swap meeting adventure the Beer Garden or Beer wagon (By the band stand) are the place to go!
Review Source:I used to love spending the night on Saturday at my best friends house in Granada Hills when I was younger. We would wake up early on Sunday and with her whole family, would get some breakfast at Holiday Burger and head to the Saugus Swap Meet. There was so much good stuff (clothes, shoes, crafts, art) and we wanted it all!
I probably haven't been in about 10 years. Then I moved to Santa Clarita Valley 2 years ago. I would pass it all the time but was too busy to stop. Finally I had time this last weekend on 5/27/12. It was such a disappointment. They have some good reviews so maybe I went on a bad day??
95% of the vendors were literally selling useless junk. The only things that interested me were the paintings and outdoor sculptors. The new shoes were all priced at retail or higher. Isn't a swap meet supposed to have deals? I noticed they did have a few food vendors but didn't see what kind of food.
I won't waste my time here again but I would suggest for everyone to experience it themselves. Go on Wednesday or Saturday since it's free and you won't feel as if you wasted money just to walk around a bunch of junk and leave. Sundays are cheap though too only $1.50 to get in.
Hahaha.. Someone said "scary ghetto".. I take it you "aint never" (ghetto) been to the SAN FERNANDO SWAPMEET?!
Either way.. I recently visited the Saugus Swapmeet and was pleasantly surprised to see all the new food vendors! I am 35 yrs old and I do remember coming here when I was younger but It was never really anything to get excited over. Now that I am an adult.. I love all the junk and the cheap prices!! Â
People watching for sure! There is this asian family that sits in the middle of the swapmeet with his sons and family cooking chicken/pork/beef kabobs! They are insanely good.. for only $2.00!!
At another stand they sell Tacos/Sodas for $1.00!! Â Now that's what i'm talking about :) Â The food, I would have to say is the best improvement I have seen here at the Saugus swap meet.
I paid $1.00 to get in.. and there was a kid walking around the swapmeet taking surveys (which i thought was pro active).. And at the end of my survey I recieved a FREE PASS!! WOOHOO I will be back!!
Santa Clarita Swap Meet used to be Saugus Swap Meet. I think the old name just rolled out your tongue better. It's the best place to find bargains for miles around. The only thing is that sometimes they are cheap junk from china. But if you look around you can find some good quality stuff.
Review Source:The old gray mare ain't what she used to be. I loved going to this swap meet back in "the old" days. They actually sold some wonderful, useful stuff, but now it's just cheap trinkets, as one other Yelper said "Made in China". I did notice they have more food vendors, food trucks and today a decent band.
So you get your beer and walk around and enjoy the crowd, and if you drink enough, something will start looking mighty good to you and you'll make a purchase. I did have a good Nathan's hot dog with what tasted like homemade chili, nice and greasy. It left orange fatty residue on the dry parts of your lips, but was tasty along with that nice gelatinous nacho cheese sauce on it. Mmmm mmm good.
If this is what you want, go and have a good time, but don't forget the beer. Oh did I mention they sell little bottles of wine now too???
(note: I went on a weekday, not weekend, so I can't vouch for the sat/sun thing)
Very small swapmeet...
lots of super random stuff.
a couple pretty good vintage clothing dealers including my friend Dave who frequently has a big blowout sale of everything $1 each.
Most of the jewelry dealers are pro's who show at Rose Bowl & Long Beach so don't expect ridiculous deals...they know what they're sellin'.
It gets really hot (even in winter). Bring sunscreen & a hat.
Hot dog vendor has delish turkey hot dogs.
Fun people watching.
If you're a digger (you know who you are) you'll like it!
I love swap meets. I love deals. I love watching people dig into their noses in traffic.
The Colombian was quite surprised that my sweet bourgeois ass would actually enjoy picking through VHS tapes, nursing uniforms, and rusty trombones-- I don't. I prefer looking at vintage jewelry, military accessories, and antique furnishings that help spice up the old bedroom...not that there isn't enough spicyness going on in there! Okay, maybe I tried too hard on that one.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the greatest swap meet I've been to. It was a pretty big lot but every other merchant seemed to be selling socks. At least now I know where to find cheap hosiery. They also have local bands attempting to entertain you as you eat hot dogs under the bleachers. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
long story on how i ended up here, but glad i came. lots of wood carved stuff and your run of the mill swap meet fare. food is good too as mentioned by previous reviewers. a nice microcosmic look into the local culture, an old desert truck stop/farm town turned gentrified suburb clumsily trying to reconcile the conflicting class value systems of the strip mall to strip steak populace shift. huh? it can get hot here, so wear deodorant you stinky fuck. Â
some highlights of my vinyl score:
$2 hugh masekela "americanization of ooga booga," bought it for the cool cover but his version of "masquenada" tore my soul into pieces.
$1 prince 12" single "sign o the times," prince should have made less songs about his penis and more songs like this.
$4 roy buchanan "guitar on fire," nice compilation of a very underrated blues guitarist, too bad "5 string blues" isn't on here.
most of the vinyl is heavy grade and the sleeve quality was mostly only lightly used. Â great score, got some late 70s folk lps too. Â spent about $15 total for 8 lps. Â
only in a swap meet can you find a nice high quality lp next to a rusty bicycle wheel and a faded precious moments figurine. all in all a wonderfully serendipitous detour.
I miss coming to this place when it was bigger, but I heard that people stopped coming when they raised admission prices and prices for the spaces. The swapmeet at the speedway was a fun way to begin your sunday's, getting free samples from the Culligan water guy, as they were cooking flapjacks the size of your head on an outdoor griddle. It's gotten a lot smaller, but I'll still give it 3 stars.
Review Source:i cannot explain in words how much i love the swap meet. But I will endeavor nevertheless. I love the dollar bins with toothpaste and tupperware. I love the bud light stand and the live music (although the Neat with their rub par Rolling Stones and Billy Idol covers are not as good as the other band thats usually there). I love the unusual as well as generic, but cheap, items that are tucked into various corners.
Here is what I bought at the swap meet today: three awesome rings, 4 vintage pins (one which says i'll give you 68 and you owe me one), a charm bracelet made out of plastic bees with a honeypot in the middle, two adorable shirts and 6 pairs of socks for $4. Other things i have bought here include: incense, more adorable shirts, the my so-called life soundtrack, beer, a horseshoe necklace, and a pack of lighters.
There are a few favorites i have, most of whom sell amazing vintage jewelery at incredible prices. I also like the unexpectedly cute clothes for insane bargain rates. its relatively small, and the sellers are very nice. Theres also food, free parking, and it costs a dollar for admission. That is worth it for the one table that sells smiths t-shirts alongside the shirt that says "free chorizo" with an arrow pointing downwards.
