We used Santa Cruz Live Music & DJ for our wedding on 7/13/13 at Sesnon House. Nick provided the sound equipment for our ceremony, ceremony music and reception. He was fantastic, attentive, and professional. We received compliments from many of our wedding guests that our DJ was fantastic, and we agree. We also purchased a photo booth package through Santa Cruz Live Music and DJ and it was a huge hit at our reception as well. I highly recommend this aspect as well. It was so nice to use one vendor for both reception items. One benefit of going with this company rather than a larger one is that the owner actually works the weddings! With larger companies you don't always know who is going to show up on the day of your event. We interviewed and got quotes from 3 companies total and were very happy with the decision that we made.

Their services were reasonable in price; we couldn't afford a live band, but didn't want DJ only, so Nick provided a good middle ground and earned every penny. Nick was very easy to work with, and did a fantastic job of keeping a good flow of music throughout our wedding. Nick had a good read of the crowd, and the dance floor was full for most of the reception. He followed our requests of what to play & what not to play and based other music selections on that.
We also booked a Photobooth through this company, which was a blast: everyone participated, and they had a good assortment of props. We used this as our gift to guests, and got copies to keep for ourselves as well. Well worth the cost, which was already lower than many of the other options out there (and then we didn't have to add an additional vendor to deal with).

We had Adam DJ at our wedding in August - he was great!
I came across him at a bridal show and thought he had a great vibe.
Overall, Adam was did an excellent job.
He kept the party going, we liked the music, and he even stayed late without charging us.
He also played live music during our cocktail hour - sadly I never heard him because we were off taking pictures but I heard from guests that it did happen :)
We had a few little slip ups with a wrong song being played during the ceremony and a few songs we told him ahead of time that we wanted to be played didn't get played and then when we asked him he didn't have them.
No big deal, overall I couldn't have asked for more.
He was fun and did a great job.
I used Santa Cruz Live Music & DJ for my November 2012 wedding. Â Nick was very responsive to my emails and answered any questions that I had. Â I love that they offer the live music portion for such a great price. Â We had him play guitar for the ceremony and then switch to DJ for the reception. Â It was perfect! Â Nick definitely paid attention to my likes and dislikes with the DJ music. Â No complaints from us! Â We would definitely recommend these guys!
Review Source:We had Adam DJ our wedding on 8/18/12. He was great as were Nick and Daniel. Â My bridesmaids wanted to go with someone else, but when they met Adam he won them over with Time After Time, they broke out in song in the middle of the bridal show.
Photobooth: At the time, they were experimenting with the photobooth and we signed up for that package. Nick was very easy to work with, taking some things out of the package and exchanging them for other services we wanted and helped us stay within our budget. Â Since we had an ocean backdrop I wanted to drop the curtains and capture the scenic view. They tried it to make sure the lighting was ok and it was. Everyone loved the photobooth and the props they brought were hilarious.
Video: A few months before the wedding we wanted to add video and told Adam and Nick. They had Daniel available and we worked out a deal for him to video while he wasn't manning the photobooth. Nick took a few pictures and put a highlight video together for us.
Overall would recommend, loved these guys!!!
Nick and Adam were great to work with. Adam, Nick's partner, was our DJ for our wedding. He was very responsive and accommodating during the planning process, emails were always answered promptly and he would meet us whenever we asked for a meeting.
Our reception was held at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and with the Aquarium, you usually run into some problems. Such as having only an hour to set up, limited lighting and lots of separation between rooms. These guys have done numerous events at the aquarium and know it well.
The lighting was a fine touch to the ambiance, the music and mc'ing was always on cue, and their energy and attitude were always FUN! I highly suggest these dudes for a rockin time.
Nick was great! He was the DJ at our wedding at Pacific Oaks Vineyard Estates, which has quite a few rules about volume, etc. But Nick rolled with it and gave us whatever we wanted. Because we didn't have a wedding planner we relied on Nick quite a bit to run the show and he was communicative, easy going and a pleasure to work with. He kept the mood light and the party going.

Nick, Adam, and Daniel were all great.
Before the wedding Nick was easy to get a hold of. Whether it was on the phone, skype or in person he always made himself available. Nick and Adam were able seamlessly set up in multiple locations (Nick was still playing the uke at the cocktail hour while guests were gradually shuttled to our reception where Nick was DJ'ing) Nick even learned a song we requested for our wedding ceremony and performed it perfectly. Having Nick and Adam play live during the wedding was a great touch. You have the ability to micromanage these guys with play lists or extensive do not play lists but we trusted these guys enough to make the right decisions and they didn't disappoint. During the reception Nick kept the dance floor going with a dynamic mix of music. I think what differentiates these guys from other wedding DJ's is they actually enjoy what they are doing and they are having fun too.
We ordered the entire multimedia package which included the help of Daniel who took a video of our ceremony and provided an edited version for us set to music (along with the entire raw footage). Daniel also ran point on our photo booth which was packed the entire night so we kept him busy. Daniel was very personable and made our guests feel comfortable. We had the opportunity to integrate our guests photo booth photos into our ongoing slide show as well.
Bottom line is these guys were great - multiple guests asked for their information afterwards so my only suggestion is book them in advance.

He learned "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and played the Ukulele while I walked down the isle with my dad. He did a beautiful job and continued to do so throughout the day into the evening . He did a combination of up beat contemporary dance music with the added benefit of live full band sound for the songs he sang. Not only is Nick is awesome person to work with he really made out wedding day very special and we even got a cd of all the live music he played. Nick Handley was our DJ at our wedding on 11/12/11 at The Chaminade. He was excellent and so easy to work with. We hired him because he was super chill and laid back, the other DJs we interviewed seemed a little too uptight for us. We were also drawn to the fact that he also plays live music. I love his business model of providing both DJ and live music services for weddings, it allowed us to have both for one reasonable price.
I am a serious music freak and basically planned out almost every single song for the entire event, from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception. I had a ridiculously large spreadsheet, filled with some obscure songs. He was totally accommodating with this micromanaging I can't help but do, and worked with me to plan it all out perfectly, and never once complained about the extra work this probably caused him. He was incredibly quick to respond to any inquiries we had during the planning phase. We also hired him to play live guitar while the guests were arriving and seating for the ceremony, which is a very nice touch. He is very professional and well dressed as well.
The music all sounded great and everything was played perfectly throughout the entire event. Our guests (and us) had a blast dancing all night. He played appropriate songs at the perfect times. Highly recommended if you need a DJ for your event. Also, definitely consider his live music option for a portion of the event.
Nick from Santa Cruz Live Mucis is a life saver!! My original MC/DJ cancelled on me the day before my wedding. Nick was easy to get ahold of and kept to his promises. Nick was not availble to DJ my wedding at such short notice but he told me about his iPod wedding option. It was perfect, we had dance mucis, reception music, ceremony music and he took the time to explained how everything worked. Thanks Nick for helping our wedding day go off without a hitch!
Review Source:We recently hired Nick Handley as our wedding musician and DJ. He was great! He played acoustical guitar for our ceremony and cocktail hour and then became a DJ for dinner and dancing. He played all of our requested music and was just a fun guy to have at our wedding.
One thing that I want to call out was how great he was via email. We were planning this wedding remotely and couldn't always meet in person or via phone. He sent us everything we needed via email and always responded to questions in hours...very quick! Huge help for us.

My husband and I recently got married in Soquel and we hired Nick Handley to be our DJ. We had a great experience working with him and I would (and will) recommend him to anyone who is looking for a great DJ! Having a excellent DJ was one of our top priorities; it truly makes all the difference in having a great party where guests can have a blast!! Nick knew what kind of music we wanted played, but was also aware of what all the guests were loving dancing to. What a sweet feeling to see all the people you love having a blast at your wedding :). Besides providing excellent service at the wedding, Nick was very easy to work with pre-wedding. He always got back to me with promptness and was also willing to be flexible to our needs.
