Amazing!  We had dinner here this past weekend. Even before we walked in the door the service was on point. The gentlemen outside saw us park as we went to the feed the meter he stopped us and told us that we didn't have to on Saturday.  Our Server Julia, was sweet, professional and in-tuned with her guests.  When we sat down at our table, it was a little rocky.  She must have saw us, came over immediately and fixed the situation.  We asked for drink and appetizer suggestions and and she had some great recommendations. Calamari, is a must. I loved my Santa Fe Margarita.  Pork tacos to die for.  Food & drinks, all delicious. Atmosphere was simple yet refined. (my only suggestion would be to add some textiles to soften some of the noise) Desserts are great, especially my Tijuana after dinner drink.  If you are in the area, or if you want to take a scenic drive up PLEASE do yourself a favor and stop here! I'll be back (so worth the hour drive)

Went here for dinner this past weekend with a large group of girls. We sat outside to enjoy the nice warm weather. I had a late lunch, so only ordered the black bean soup which hit the spot. It was just the right consistency, size, and had a wonderful blend of flavors. As I arrived last, I didn't get to try to chips, salsa, and guacamole since the rest of the girls CLEANED the plates off. I'm assuming they were THAT good. :P

We had pitchers of margaritas that were nice, but could have been stronger. The rest of the girls ordered entrees and the portions were huge; I don't think anyone was able to finish their whole plate.

Not a big deal, but it was a bit confusing figuring out who worked there, since the servers were all wearing random clothes (interesting that there isn't a uniform, but some name tags might be helpful). Regardless, the service was great and the food came out fast.

Food is delicious, but I think the taco portions are a bit small for what you are paying. $16.95 for two fish or steak tacos, greens, rice & beans is a bit steep.

Food - the food is good.  Pulled pork tacos are great, they also have steak and fish tacos that are good.  There quesadilla or ok.  I have had the calamari a couple times and its been very good.   So far I really like the consistence in quality of food.  They have a wing night and unfortunately this is the only night they are served.  There specials are usually excellent.

Drinks - huge selection oh tequila and 3 Mexican beers on tap.  They have a large bar area inherited from the previous restaurants at this location.

Atmosphere - dark, upscale , clean,  intimate and quite. if you want to watch a game on the TV or listen to music so loud you can't hear the person your with then its not the place your looking for.

Really nice meal tonight and a good value.  Everything made from scratch with good cocktails to match.  Service was spotty but well intentioned.  Ask for homemade habanero hot sauce to accompany your dish.

Santa Fe is my new favorite Wednesday night spot (after yoga)!!!  We usually sit at the bar, have dinner and a couple drinks.  The bartender is attentive and makes a spectacular Manhatten.  They have a nice wine and beer selection.

Upon sitting, they serve you chips and fresh, homemade salsa.  The salsa is delicious.  For those who've complained about how mild it is, ask for some of their special, homemade hot sauces and add them to suit your taste.

The menu is small, but there are a lot of nice, fresh options to choose from.  The portion sizes are reasonable (if you're looking to stuff yourself silly...go to Moe's).  I suggest one of the quessedillas (make it a dinner with rice & beans and salad.  Note:  If you're like me and don't eat rice, ask for double salad - they're happy to oblige).

One more reason to eat in/support Uptown Kingston.

I recently had dinner at Santa Fe with my husband and mom, and it was an enjoyable experience.  The chips and salsa were tasty and plentiful.  My entree, the sweet potato tacos, was delicious and came with generous sides of rice and beans and salad.  The key lime pie was the best I've ever had.  My mom and husband enjoyed their dinners as well, and we all had a good amount of leftovers for lunch the next day.  The atmosphere is fun and our waitress was so very nice.  I would be happy to return.

Edit: Out of curiosity, I checked out the filtered reviews and noticed that the majority of them were 4 or 5 stars.  The filtered reviews are actually a more accurate depiction of this restaurant than some of the reviews on here that count towards the actual rating of this establishment.  Given the experiences family & friends of mine and I had at Sante Fe along with the filtered reviews (which is the majority of the reviews), I don't think the current rating is at all accurate.  Sante Fe definitely deserves a higher all-around rating and the business it is getting.

A wonderful Mexican Resturant with a friendly staff and some of the freshest ingredients around! Great for an evening out with you friends, or for a quick lunch on Friday afternoons. I highly recommend it!

This is a really sweet spot in Uptown Kingston and we really need good restaurants there. Unfortunately, sweetness is also their undoing. The lemon water was served in the glass part of old sugar dispensers. This led me to think, "what did they do with all that sugar?" Why, they've put it in the food, of course! The menu is headed in the right direction, conceptually, but evidently they lost confidence and felt they had to -- add sugar! Everything from the sauces to the dressings were waaaaaay too sweet. They project a "healthy/freshest ingredients" philosophy but the sugar really blows that away.

    Some other points:

    - The staff was friendly and efficient
    - The place looks really nice and is a nice addition to Uptown.
    - The portions were small (I ordered an entree salad with grilled shrimp. There were only five shrimp served.)
    - The chips were colorful but didn't taste so good. Splurge a bit on your chips, folks!
    - The salsa could use some oomph.
    - Parking is available.

I hope this review has a positive effect. I will try Sante Fe again in a few months and report back.

The Tivoli hot spot now has a location on this side of the river. Plus, the Demostenes family is in partnership. They also own Hillside Manor which is a great catering facility. OK...back to the good stuff. While Kingston has good, authentic Mexican restaurants, we have been looking forward to a fun, colorful, hip restaurant with upscale Tex-Mex. Armadillo is tired. That being said, the food is identical to that of Santa Fe in Tivoli. So...It's very good. Add to that totally hot young women servers who actually do provide superior service and you have a winning combination. The crowd is mixed, eclectic, local, weekender, etc... In other words, everyone is made to feel at home.

I have been to Santa Fe two times - once for happy hour and once for lunch.  I wish I could remember the name of the one bartender that served us at happy hour because she was absolutely fantastic.  She provided excellent service and was very friendly and accommodating.  There was a group of about six of us and we went on a Friday.  There weren't enough seats for all of us but we were still comfortable.  It was not crazy busy but it was a nice crowd for a Friday night.

Today, my friend and I had lunch at Santa Fe.  The service was great!  Once again, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.  I was very impressed.  We both had the chicken chimichanga and it was excellent.  I was very surprised by the large portion we got for lunch which included a nice side salad and side of rice and beans.  Everything was very tasty!    I would definitely recommend this place for lunch.

Upon being seated, I was brought a bowl of chips (three colors, no less) and fresh salsa, thick enough to stay on my chips without running off.  The salsa, however, was so mild that it had no bite to it at all.

I ordered a steak burrito, medium rare ($16.95, which is $2 more than their Tivoli location).  When it came, it was accompanied by rice (mild in flavor) and black beans, a bit of salad greens and vinaigrette, and topped with a dollop of sour cream. There must be a rigid portion control on the meat. I estimate that I received no more than 3 ounces of steak, granted it was as ordered, and so bland as to be without flavor. My go-to Tex-Mex restaurant (Armadillo) has never let me leave hungry after one entree, and certainly not for that price...

Service was good. Parking on the street, and, in the evenings, you can park at the county lot next door.

So, IMHO, two stars for bland food and not enough of it to offset the relatively high price (for Mexican food).

Heard this restaurant, an offshoot of the popular, long-established eatery of the same name in Tivoli, opened recently at the former site of Ugly Gus, which was once one of Kingston's most popular watering holes. No Web page yet, no Yelp yet, and only a thin Facebook presence, with no days, hours or menu available. A phone number is listed on Facebook for reservations, but there's been no answer and there's no answering machine. So I dropped by Saturday at noon to check it out: it was closed, with no days or hours of operation posted. But a couple got out of a car and said they had hoped to eat lunch and that it was a return trip for them and that they had eaten there. Ah,ha! Confirmation!
This place gives new resonance to the phrase "soft opening" -- it's so soft, even Linda Lovelace couldn't have done anything with it.
