We stayed in Mariposa and decided to try out this place after reading so many reviews. We were a party of 5. The highlight of our meal was (from my best likings). Portobello 16.75, Stacked Polenta 16.25, Steak Diane 22. It wasn't cheap but I was so tired of eating sandwiches. The service was a little slow. We waited overall, 45 min; but they brought us bread and oil with balsamic. So we weren't super starved. Also, all our dinner came with salad or soup. I had salad with balsamic dressing. It was average, but the veggies felt real fresh. Overall I will definitely try this place again the next time I go to Yosemite .
Review Source:My experience at Savoury's was great. I was with a party of 7.  Everyone was very pleased with their meal but the chicken Marsala was absolutely fantastic!  They are only open or dinner so they aren't trying to be all things to all people but they certainly do a great job offering fine dining in this quaint little  mountain town.  You won't be disappointed.
Review Source:We stopped for dinner. The place has a very comforting interior, the staff was very  attentive. The menu is perhaps somewhat limited, but the food is very high quality and very tasty.
I had a steak which is definitely among one of the best that I had. The sides where broccoli vegetables and mashed potatoes (simple - yes), but both were made the way they should be. The steak also came with a choice of salad and soup, both tasted great as well. I also enjoyed the fresh break and oil dip that they offered in the beginning.
I was slightly disappointed in the restaurant after the reviews that I had read. We stopped by because we were staying in Mariposa on our way to Yosemite. The bread was crusty but we ran out of the oil drip and no one brought anymore. We ordered the seared tuna appetizer with the olive tapanade. The flavor was decent but the texture was a little off. I had the duck breast with the vegetables. It wasn't anything spectacular and the vegetables were bland and mushy compared to what we had the night before at the Charles Street Dinner House. My husband had the Surf and Turf. He said the meat the average. The shrimp was overcooked. The flavor was decent. The best part of the meal was the chocolate and blackberry torte which was amazing but did not bump the dinner up to 4 or 5 start quality.
The food was OK and it was good after a day of hiking. If you are looking for a good meal, go up the street to Charles Street Dinner House.
What a find on our trip to the Motherlode (Gold Mining) Country. Â Great food, especially the walnut tart we had for dessert. Â My scallops were great, my husband's pasta was great. Â The soup du jour (sausage and white bean) was delicious, and the salad my husband chose was also great. Â The bread and olive oil was a delicious combination. Â I was a little worried about the wine list as I did not recognize any of the Chardonnays, but we even lucked out there.
Review Source:The staff is wonderful - all friendly, polite, efficient.
We had the Veggie Stacked Portobello appetizer, which was very good. Â The portobello was topped with red bell pepper, spinach, red onion, cheese and drizzled with a balsamic dressing. Â This was flavorful, and the best thing we ordered.
We also ordered the New York Steak Salad, which is a heavy-duty salad. Â The toppings of craisins and blue cheese complemented the steak very well. Â My major disappointment with both this salad and the dinner salad was the lettuce. Â It was the tough portion of the romaine. Â My husband and I both ate around the lettuce (in a salad, go figure!). Â
I chose the Chicken Marsala, which was pretty good, but the chicken (as a previous reviewer has stated) was not a pounded cutlet but instead a half chicken, making it more awkward than necessary to eat. Â Marsala sauce was pretty good but a little skimpy.
All in all, if you're looking for a relaxing place to dine - pleasant ambience, good service - this would be a consideration. Â Do wish the food were better. Â It's only okay, not great.
Always always superb service, classy atmosphere, and tasty food. This is the go to place for special occassions. My favorites? Steak Diane, Chipolte Orange Chicken (its a bit hot), Â the Lamb Chops with cilantro mint. My husband always orders the New York steak. The portions are perfect.... i usually end up taking some home for lunch the next day. The deserts are also perfect.... not too much and not too little and very tasty.
Review Source:Among the best meals of my life, course-by-course.
Impeccable service. Attentive, polite and professional. Dishes were set and cleared cleanly and quickly. It is clear the management here is on top of things.
Food was absolutely splendid from first bite to last.
From the moment I tasted the bread and dipping oil, I knew I'd be running the full course at this restaurant. Appetizer, entree and dessert. And I would do it again, many times, if I weren't heading out of town.
The only downside, and I can't take a way a star on this, is that the decor/atmosphere feels a bit on the sterile side. Something "homey" is missing. But I was too distracted by the perfectly balanced flavors and quality ingredients to worry let it creep on me.
This is what a restaurant should be. Congratulations to the owner, manager, chef and staff.
I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked. Â My wife had the chicken marsala and it was good but actually a chicken roast with marsala sauce rather than a boneless breast pounded thin. Both came with green beans that were fresh and nicely prepared. The coffee was surprisingly good. The bread was also a pleasant surprise.
My wife tried a mousse of some sort for dessert, said it was good.
No reservations meant a 20 min wait on some pretty great food! A Saturday night with my bf meant exploring the area and we turned to trusty yelp for a recommendation.
Service = great. Miss Jamie was Attentive, accurate, with smiles and no attitude despite the wait staff being busy (I have a feeling they usually are!) she even caught a mistake on my boyfriends order and had it fixed ASAP (I know I wrote "accurate" above: the error was extra rice pilaf with his yummy tatoes and she noticed it & brought a plate of perfectly steamed green beans). The sliced bread was very very good (crusted outside but thick and soft inside), my salad was meh (ranch dressing was sweet and I was surprised at the candied walnuts), the tomato bisque soup tasted homemade (acidic as tomatoes can be even when stewed as reduced) and we both enjoyed sharing it.
His filet mignon was tender, tasty and probably a six ounce cut. He paired it with a chilled Stella and was a happy man! The potatoes that accompanied his slab o' meat were also very good: they were chunky and has some peel. I like evidence that my food is from the ground, not reconstituted from a box.
I ordered the fresh fish (panko crusted sea bass) which was terrific but over salted. My green beans had a lovely garlic cream sauce and the rice pilaf had a wonderful texture. I ordered a crisp but slightly buttery glass of Voss.
Thank you to miss Jamie for the great service! We are happy :-)
My husband and I live in San Francisco, and as such it's a foregone conclusion that we're foodies. That said, we're at least willing to acknowledge that we're foodies, and we're conscious of the necessary difference between rating food in SF and rating food elsewhere.
By San Francisco standards, Savoury's is at least a solid 3 stars. For a weensy tourist village with fewer than 500 permanent residents, the place is a fucking miracle. The atmosphere is elegant yet unpretentious, the staff is courteous, they have a well-stocked bar with a fantastic cocktail menu (I highly recommend the vanilla lemon drop), and although the food isn't the best I've ever had it is incredibly affordable.
Long story short: If you've just finished a long hike in Yosemite and are in desperate need of a decent steak, this is the place for you... Hell, if you're anywhere near Yosemite and you need a decent dinner, this is the place for you.
Very nice Saturday night dining experience. I recommend the steak Diane (grilled New York strip finished with a brandy, dijon & mushroom sauce). Really good! Also, the Lamb Chops are as good as they get.
(grilled & finished with Local 'Casto Cellars' cabernet mint sauce).
Mashed potatoes...pound on the table good!
The Ballard cabernet was a delight.
I recommend this place highly. Do get a reservation...Savoury is popular on a Saturday night.
Came here on recommendation by the owner of the bed & breakfast I was staying at. Â My boyfriend and I were very surprised by the modern & sexy ambiance and decor. Â I'm not sure if it was because we were so hungry from hiking Yosemite, but the food was pretty fantastic. Â The bread was amazing - fresh, warm and crusty. Â I had the Portobello and my boyfriend had the roasted herb chicken. Â We definitely enjoyed our meal here and would recommend Savoury's to anyone passing through the town of Mariposa to and from Yosemite.
Review Source:This place was delicious! We were just stopping through on our way back from Yosemite. We had drinks and dinner, a Russian Mule (which was the best we've ever had and in a really cool metal cup) and wine. For appetizers we had the clams in white wine sauce, which were salty but in a good way. I like a briny broth with steamed mollusks. We had a cup of the soup of the evening, a chile verde meatball soup - which was great. The meatball broke apart and wasn't like those scary chef boyardee solid meatballs that you have no idea what they're made of...
For dinner we had duck breast and also the steak salad. The steak was cooked medium rare like I asked and the duck breast was delicious with plump cranberries on top. The duck could have rendered a bit more, a little crispier on the top, but the flavor was outstanding. We didn't try any desserts, but I'd say stop here without a doubt the next time you're in Mariposa!
An excellent place to treat yourself or others.
I'm not prone to casually throwing out a 5 Star, but not only do I think Savoury's earned it, but looking at the various non-raves here I feel compelled to defend this standout in Mariposa from the Grouches bad-mouthing one of the highlights of my Labor Day weekend to Yosemite. From menu to service to ambiance to the actual food put before us, our threesome had nary a negative word to say about this eatery.
It was Labor Day night when we arrived after scoping out the town for a suitable place to have dinner our hostess (a local from El Portal) was treating us to. Having just come from a bit of outdoor activity, I had thought we might feel out of place but it was quickly clear Savoury's gets many such visitors and treats all equally (a couple in cargo shorts and T-shirt were seated in the front window, not hidden by the kitchen, for example). The hostess (who we suspected is the owner) got to us quickly and with genuine friendliness despite the hiking attire and backpacks.
Perhaps it's a recent change, but this place DOES NOT have a "limited menu." Two minor-league foodies (one a fairly active cook herself) and a self-described picky-eater found enough choices to keep the waitress waiting awhile to decide. I can report for experience that they have no qualms about substitution as said picky eater wanted clams instead of the offered shrimp in the Alfredo she ordered. We started with the red pepper hummus, but instead of the crackers currently listed on their web menu, they brought lightly grilled pita wedges slightly seasoned. I would highly recommend to management that this be how they present it for now on. Although we enjoyed the pita so much we had to order a 2nd helping to finish off the hummus.
I had their ginger, cilantro and shrimp pasta while the last member of the party went with the lamb chops. Not only can we each say our entrees were excellent, but enough sharing went on to attest that the other dishes were indeed worthy of their praise. Additionally, there was a special offering of fresh mahi mahi that was praised by couple as they left while we waited to be seated. When you consider where this place is and what it takes to get it supplied with quality ingredients offered at reasonable prices, the menu is impressive. The wine selection was also decent, especially the by-the-glass offerings which is important for those of us who needed to later drive Hwy 140 offering certain death on guardrail-less turns.
Being Labor Day, the 1/3 filled restaurant and closed bar we arrived at around 6:30pm was filled to overflowing including the small bar by the time we left with Yosemite visitors heading home and locals capping off their own weekends. NEVER did we feel neglected by the staff, nor did we have to wait for any of our food. Empty dishes were quickly removed and when it was clear our friend was taking her time to savor the remaining Alfredo, the hostess/owner brought over more of the excellent bread to soak up the remaining sauce. Were the staff perfect? With holiday rush, of course not (the waitress only remembered that I wanted my wine with dinner instead of everyone). But they were handling it without becoming visibly frazzled by the situation.
So, please, reward the efforts this restauranteur has put into creating this great dining establishment by offering something other than the usual roadside diner fare everyone else has.
the place is in the middle of nowhere and service staff is super weird. Food was decent, but they advertise New York strip on menu but serve some other kind of meat and don't seem to know that it is not the cut that's on the menu. Their NY steak is very lean and without the bone.
Also, when we were just done with our soup and salad, the girl cleared our bread plates and olive oil plate. When I asked her what she was doing, she said the bread plates looked dirty. She brought back clean bread plates but no olive oil. Then during our dinner, she cleared our bread basket while we were still eating dinner. Then, the same girl while still holding the dessert menu asked us what dessert we would like. We haven't even seen the dessert menu yet. Lol
If you ignore super small town kind of stuff, the food is eatable.
The only fine dining experience in Mariposa and the best food around!
Savoury's has now become our "go-to" place when we want to celebrate an event like an anniversary or birthday and we have never been disappointed. Â They have friendly, professional staff and a very personable owner. Â Their food is fantastic and they try to buy all of their produce and meats locally -- which is definitely a challenge up here! Â
Wonderful gourmet food and excellent service in a classy atmosphere -- I hardly notice that I'm eating in the old Rexall drugstore! Â It doesn't get much better than this!
I went here last month for my birthday dinner. Â Everything was DELICIOUS! From the warm yummy bread and olive oil, to the vanilla lemon drops and dinner itself. Â And maybe you had to be there, but... my boyfriend isn't a salad guy, meaning he wont even touch it. Â Well *ahem* when our salads came out (I was going to eat his) drizzled in their amazing strawberry vinaigrette dressing, HE ATE HIS. Â You don't understand what a miracle this is. Â THAT'S how good this place is =)
Review Source:Unexpected gem
We enjoyed a delicious peaceful meal in this town where seems like many restaurants were going out of business. There was a good selection of choices with delicious homemade soup. There was low light and soft music with very artistic decor. I was able to find a place that knew what gluten free was and had it.
We went begin of June and didn't need a reservation but they prefer you did. Don't miss this if you are staying in mariposa!
A bunch of friends and I had dinner here last weekend. I thought the food was delicious - I had the NY steak and mashed potatoes and Hungarian mushroom soup. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, the mashed potatoes were alittle on the bland side but was fixed with a few swigs of salt. The mushroom soup was absolutely delicious - and even more so when the waitress cracked fresh pepper in it.
As far as timing, my friends made a 7PM reservation and I showed up 15 minutes late and they had already ordered. Being with so many people and talking with everyone, I'm not sure how long it took to get our food - the timing seemed good to me but when you have good company and good food you don't really notice those kind of things  (at least I didn't). When we left, it was around 830/840 and there was a waiting line at the door.
I haven't written a Yelp review in over three years but I feel compelled to come out of Yelp retirement to write a review for Savoury's. Â My wife and I went here on a Sunday night while we were exploring Yosemite for our honeymoon based on the positive reviews on Yelp, and frankly we just can't figure out how people rated this place so well. Â
We ordered the hummus and crackers for an appetizer. Â I was a little wary of ordering that because I figured that crackers were a cop-out. Â No pita chips, or maybe even bread? Â I mean, I could buy crackers in a grocery store. Â But my wife wanted it so we ordered it. Â Unfortunately, the crackers were straight up Pepperidge Farm, and the hummus was basically flavorless. Â So I asked for some bread to use instead of the crackers. Â They delivered a large breadbasket with only two small pieces of bread in it. Â The lonely expanse of bread basket made the lack of generosity extremely glaring. Â I mean, come on, can we get more than a couple pieces of bread? Â That shit is cheap!
For entrees we both ordered pasta dishes. Â I had read on Yelp that the pork was good but I wanted to play it safe. Â I got the penne alfredo with chicken and my wife got some sort of linguine with spinach in a butter lemon sauce. Â They were both passable, which I attribute to the fact that we both ordered safe. Â I probably could have ordered something more adventurous, so I'll give Savoury's the benefit of the doubt on the entrees. Â
But it was the dessert that really caused the meal to start circling the drain. Â I wanted the bread pudding but I don't like raisins in bread pudding. Â So I asked the server if it was the kind of bread pudding with raisins in it or if it had chocolate in it. Â She looked at me like I had a third eye and incredulously said "It's bread pudding. Â It's just bread with a sweet cream sauce on it." Â So delightfully condescending. Â
She brought our desserts to us about a minute after we ordered, which surprised and worried us. Â When I saw the bread pudding, I understood why my question was weird to her. Â The bread pudding was a few pieces of bread uniform in both size and color, with a bland sweet cream sauce on it. Â It was obviously a packaged dessert. Â When I tasted it, I understood about the timing of its delivery to us. Â Some pieces were freezing cold and some were tongue-burning hot, indicating that it had been microwaved. Â The dessert was obviously a packaged microwaveable bread pudding dessert. Â I asked my wife if her chocolate tart was the same regarding the temperature differences, and she confirmed. Â I can't believe they were so obvious about serving microwave desserts that I could buy in the grocery store. Â
Beyond the food, the service was snooty with no justification, and the servers were very inattentive. Â Water glasses went empty for a while. Â We put down our credit card on the bill and it was probably ten minutes before they picked it up.
I understand that in a small town like Mariposa I should temper my expectations but given how much they charged, I expect better. Â I do not recommend this restaurant in any way, and anybody from a town bigger than Mariposa who is used to better restaurant selection than in Mariposa would do well to avoid this place because it will inevitably disappoint.
A frequent user of Yelp, I have saved my first review for something truly special, and this (to my surprise) is it. Â
I live in a culinary hotspot, and yet, who woulda thought that I would end up getting the best meal and dining experience I've had all year in a small town in the Sierra's. Â I didn't even intend to stop in Mariposa, but I'm sure glad I did.
Everything, from the friendly bartender, the wait staff, the owners, the decor, ambiance, and above all else THE FOOD- was absolutely amazing. Â The filet mignon was absolutely PERFECT. Â The drinks were good, especially considering they had just started serving hard alcohol the week before. Â
If you are passing through town, or have the pleasure of living in the area, DINE HERE. Â Go with a group, or as a romantic dinner for two... whatever the case, if your experience is have as pleasant as ours, you will be very happy.
This is one of those places that I left thinking I had a 3.5 to 4 star experience, but then I gave it 5 stars because I'm an enigma wrapped in a riddle wrapped in a pancake served on a stick. Let's go navy this time and title this sub-style.
Location!
I don't know where I was, but Yelp tells me I was in Mariposa, and I have yet to have reason to doubt their directions if you exclude all of those times they've been wrong, so we'll say I was there. Wasn't that hard to find, mostly because I wasn't looking for it, but as usual when I arrived, there I was.
Subtitle 2!
I didn't think out this subtitle thing. Um... there was wine cork art near the bathroom. That was kind of a thing.
Service!
Worked for me. Came by often but also left us alone. That's actually perfect service - attentive, but goes away. No one wants you around for more than a few seconds, service. You're like Zach Galifianakis. Kudos to Savoury's for doing their service right.
Food!
- Bread - Outstanding bread. It's the bread other breads wish they were, only to lose self esteem when they can't measure up and cut themselves. Great, great bread. And free. Great, great free bread.
- Linguini(?) with Spinach and Olive Oil - Here's why I left not feeling super stoked about this place. The Linguini and spinach meal I got was perfect - the olive oil was outstanding oil, the spinach and minimal amounts of cheese tasted great. But then, I ended up realizing I really wanted the fettuccine alfredo, and so I ate this thing wishing I had ordered something else, and left away disappointed. But the meal itself was exactly as it should be, so it's not Savoury's fault. It is Savoury's fault for using a British spelling of a pretentious word as their name, but they get a pass because their bread was so great it was "hella" great. That's a word that was invented in NoCal.
Overall!
I have to give Savoury's credit for existing. It was also busy - on a Sunday night, late. Not a bad place in the middle of nowhere.
If you want great ambience, attentive service and an exceptional dining experience, Savoury's is the place for dinner in Mariposa.
The menu is uncomplicated and direct. A nice wine list with both local wines and a broad range of Californian, Italian, Spanish and some French varietals gave us some good choices for a dinner accompaniment.
First course, we had some wonderful skewered shrimp with an piquant apricot dipping sauce. The grilled smoky shrimp were sensational with this spicy sweet accompaniment! A chilly flute of prosecco and we were off to a sensational start.
I can't say enough about the french bread and balsamic/olive oil/herb dip. The bread was crispy on the outside with a warm yeasty inside. Perfect!
Next, a fresh garden salad and homemade beef vegetable soup. Both delicious.
Main course(s): we ordered Steak Diane and an extra large smoked porkchop (with an apricot sauce). Couldn't go wrong with that after the first course and we were right. The chop was generous and the Steak cooked to perfection. Typically, Steak Diane is done with a filet mignon but this was a tender, New York steak. The sauce of cognac, shallots, butter, mustard, cream and pepper (I believe) was delightful.
The Spanish red we ordered was the perfect compliment to our meal.
Then, the crown jewel on a sumptious dinner was our bread pudding. This is one of my favorite desserts and this was one of the best I've ever tasted. Crunchy baked top with a creamy inside and a nice creme anglaise.
Thanks, Miriam and crew for a wonderful dining experience!
Wow. What a find on the way out of Yosemite. Â One Yelper says this is most likely the best restaurant between Yosemite and the Bay Area. Â I tend to agree. Â
Had a great meal coming home from Yosemite. Â The place is spotlessly clean and very nice interior. Â Was greeted by the owner, Mariam, and seated promptly. Â Servers are very good and attentive. Â Menu is chock full of neat items. Each one has a special touch in the ingredients and especially the sauces. Â
I had the ginger/cilantro shrimp pasta. Â Was very tasty to the palate and the sauce on the linguini was so heavenly. Â Partner had the pork chop with an apricot sauce. Â Yummy also. Â
The had an extensive wine list at reasonable prices. Â We both had an old fashioned spritzer which was very refreshing after a day in Yosemite.
Overall, very pleased with the experience. Â What a gem in the little quaint town of Mariposa.
Omigosh, this place has amazing food...in Mariposa! Who woulda thunk it?
We arrived at about 7:00 on a Monday and the place was packed. People were waiting in the lobby area, outside, & at the wine bar. On a Monday? This place has got to be good! We found out later that many restaurants in Mariposa are closed on Mondays, but our quick tour of the town earlier that evening made me think I wouldn't want to eat anywhere else.
We put our name in with the friendly owner and sat at the new wine bar, currently under construction. Yep, there's a wine bar in Mariposa. And you just thought Mariposa was a place to fly through on your way to Yosemite!
They had a great selection of wines at reasonable prices. We were even able to order our food at the bar. Lucky for us, a table right by the window opened up so we grabbed it. Who needs a table in the dining room when you can sit by the huge picture window & watch the tourists sauntering up & down the street? We also marveled at the folks across the way who were picnicking at a gas station.
We weren't too hungry so we decided to split 2 main dishes. I'm glad we did cuz the portions were quite big! We ordered the Parmesan Polenta with spinach, mushrooms, & red peppers and the Grilled Portobello with veggies, feta cheese, & quinoa. They were both incredible. Parmesan crusted on the polenta, fresh crunchy veggies, meaty portobello. We ate up every last morsel on those plates and wanted more.
I like how Frank V. describes it as "SF like". So true. You wouldn't expect a place like this in a small town in the Sierra foothills. It is definitely worth a stop on your way to or from Yosemite. Â And you don't even have to change out of your shorts & hiking boots.
Closed Wednesdays, only open for dinner.
YUM. Last night, my husband and I had the pleasure of eating dinner here, and it was wonderful-- the atmosphere, the staff, the food, and the wine.
We started out with a Pinot Gris ("J") which was incredible, and from Healdsburg. For an appetizer, we had the portobello mushroom, which was draped in veggies and feta cheese.
For dinner I had the garlic shrimp pasta and a salad. No iceburg lettuce, which is always a plus! For dessert, we had the panna cotta, which was paired in the menu with a delicious dessert wine-- Jorge Ordonez.
We did not have to wait long to be served, the waitstaff were very friendly, the atmosphere was chill, and the bathrooms are clean.
Wish they were located in Merced!!!
Atmosphere is very nice, the wait staff is lovely.
Best thing I had was the wine, a nice Malbec.
I had the NY steak salad, medium rare. Â That translates to bleu cheese crumbled all over a piece of sliced steak plopped on some nice greens. Â The caramelized onions were too pale and slimy for my liking, and I usually like caramelized onions on my meat.
Mediocre. And I base that on the fact that there were 4 of us, two got the steak salad, one had the chicken chipotle dinner (she said it was good, but I noticed that it comes with a plop of mashed potatoes and a chunk of steamed broccoli.) Â My 3rd coworker got the steak well done (a travesty, I know) and it also came with broccoli and mashed potatoes. Â Why so boring and bland?? Â More importantly, why was everything sort of "sweet" instead of savory?? Â One gal got the cioppino, which should never be served as a cup, that's a stew!
1 extra star because the fresh bread and the oil/balsamic was a winner. Â I should have stuck with that, and nursed my glass of wine.
I eat out a lot, the prices were okay. Â I do not remember if it is all locally sourced, but there is a sign encouraging people to eat locally. Â I also encourage this. Â So far, Mariposa restaurants are 2 for 2 on the two stars. Â $23 bucks for salad and wine. Â Will not break the bank.
FYI, this place was HIGHLY recommended by the clerk across the street, who said, and I quote "It's great if you understand it's gourmet". Â I got a kick out of that.
Savoury's is a very fine restaurant in the historic gold rush town of Mariposa, gateway to Yosemite National Park. I've been taking the family to Savoury's for years, back when it occupied a smaller location just across the street. The owner, Miriam, pours her heart and soul into running the place and her attention to detail clearly shows.
Mariposa is a casual, unpretentious place; rural and understated. With its sophisticated, even urbane vibe, it might seem like Savoury's is the proverbial fish out of water. However, Savoury's manages to be both elegant and accessible at the same time. The atmosphere is refined and inviting, but never stuffy. This is the very best place for a wonderful meal when staying in or passing through Mariposa. It's a unique restaurant in a unique and unlikely setting.
There are always a couple of fresh fish options on the menu, and they're prepared with some imaginative garnishes and other twists. You can never go wrong with the fish at Savoury's. The soups and salads are fresh and delicious. Â The menu also has magnificent variations of pasta, some with seafood. The steaks and chops are superior cuts, and always prepared to perfection. This is the sort of place where you can relax, take your time, and enjoy the company of your family and/or friends.
Savoury's also has a good selection of wines to choose from. Dinner at Savoury's is the perfect compliment to a beautiful Yosemite vacation. Do yourself a favor and try this place.
Mariposa is a small town...probably one of the smallest town's I've ever been to. I would never have expected a restaurant such as Savoury's up in the forests of yosemite. Savoury's is elegant and would fit in perfectly in some swanky area in Los Angeles.
The owner of Savoury's is the nicest lady...she made us feel special even though we weren't even dressed up...I was literally in black sweats, I had no idea it was going to be fancy schmancy. But no one seemed to care which was AWESOME!! How cool would it be if you can just eat great food at nice restaurants in your PJs!! I ordered the surf and turf and it was perfect. I ate everything on my plate even the vegetables...my mom would be proud.

I give Savoury's 5 stars all across the board:
Decor = 5 stars
Service/ hospitality = 5 stars
Quality of food = 5 stars
Taste = 5 stars
Savoury's ... drool ... so yum ... and cheap prices for what you get!
Surprisingly good restaurant in the sterile restaurant desert that is Mariposa. I had the blackened NY steak which was tender and done as I ordered. I liked the interesting way they did the broccoli, it looked like sprouted asparagus spears, and I was about to fling it across the room when my wife said "It's not asparagus, dear, go ahead and eat it." Â The portion was not lumberjack-sized, but just right. Â I tried the cheesecake which was tolerable but creamier than I like it. However, this style seems to be all the rage these days.
Great Scott, the service is slow, though.
It's a fairly noisy restaurant and it appears to be the only place in Mariposa that's half-way decent and open on a Monday night.
Have you ever been to Mariposa, CA? It's a ridiculously cute town with an even cuter name (it's the Spanish word for butterfly). Â
Savoury's fits right in with the cute theme. It might be the most charming restaurant ever. With the best patio dining. And the best service. And it's owned by an adorable family. Mom is the owner and her sons work there. I can't take it!
I ate here after a day of hiking in Yosemite and my meal was the icing on my magical Yosemite cake! Â They have an incredible menu and a nice selection of wines. Whichever one I chose got me nice and toasted...probably because I was slightly dehydrated, but it felt good.
My food was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed our meal out on the patio (it was early summer) that was lit up with white lights. It was so cozy....I didn't want to leave.
Little gems like this help to make California the best place to live in the US!
