I normally do not leave negative reviews, but three days later I am still immensely dissapointed and need to make sure others are warned in advance. Let me preface this review with saying that I am a local, not a tourist, and have dined at the Saw Mill on numerous occassions. 7 of us came to the saw mill on a Friday night for my girlfriends birthday. Not too crowded, food was good and the waitress was super friendly. The bill came and we passed it around and everyone put in their cash. I used a credit card to pay and was surprised at the lack of cash I had recieved. The bill came back WITH OUT an itemized receipt and I left my usual 20% tip and gave it back to the waitress. After trying to figure out how a few sandwhiches, salads and drinks came to the price that we payed, I finally went back to the waitress and asked for an itemized receipt. The receipt was no where to be found and she was "unable" the print out another copy(the managers reason was that she had already signed out). I gave the menu a detailed once over and did not see anywhere that gratuity would be automatically added, nor did the waitress mention this important fact. Not to mention, I am asking her why the bill came out to what it did and for a copy of my receipt and she still does not mention that gratuity was "padded" to the bill. I managed a restaurant throughout college and clearly the money is not the issue here, but it's the principal of the matter(hence the reason for this review). I will never return to this establishment and I just want to make sure others are forwarned of their business practices.
Review Source:It saddens me to give such an institution of my teenage years 1 star, but after my last experience here, I feel it's justified. The manager of the place these days should learn something about customer service. I made a comment to my wife when we got there about how inflation sucks & you used to be able to get a slice & a soda for $1.50 (now it's $3.50 and you only get a slice) which he heard; he then angrily lectured us about how gas is $3.50 a gallon these days. So apparently, OPEC regulates the price of pizza as well.
This is one of those places that people always went to because it was the place to go, not because the food is so amazing. We went when I was young because it was the cheapest place on the boardwalk, and it had kind of a divey charm. It's now no longer the cheapest place on the boardwalk, and lost a good deal of the charm in my opinion.
Dined in here on my recent day trip to sleaze side. The nacho appetizer was ok but could have used more chili in it. I had the buffalo chicken wrap. The chicken was good.... Nice and spicy..... But the wrap could have used more chicken and less lettuce and tomato. Â If I wanted a salad I would have ordered one.
Compared to other places on the board, I'd give it 3 stars.... It was just ok. Looked to be decent place to hang at the bar and watch some games.
My wife and I used to go here every friday about 4 or 5 years ago for the happy hour Bar pie and salad.I was on there web site this past Friday and we decided to go and try here one more time. When we get there and asked the girl for the happy hour menu she said they know longer have it even though the web site clearly stats they do.this will be our last time going to this tourist trap. There are many better places on the island to go to.
Review Source:we've always liked this place... it's large, with many windows and has an airy feel to it. last time we went we enjoyed the $2 beer special at the start to our seaside boardwalk bar crawl. the pizza is pretty good too and they usually have some kind of special for a beer and pizza. whenever we hit up seaside we come here for a few drinks either to start or end our day.
Review Source:You would never think it bu this place is very family friendly and has a great menu and they have the largest pies on the planet!
Was just down there and first time in all my life (56 years) went in for something to eat and everyone enjoyed all their different choices.
The place was nice inside and bustling but there was always room and its very clean.
Not the place it once was thats for sure.
Absolutely watch the parking tickets- meter # 186 was ours and we got ripped big time for $45 and we KNOW we put in enough and went back with 40 minutes left and there was the big freakin ticket!
This is a rigged for fast forward meter and take a before and after shot with your camera.
We have complained and signed complaint for them to review.
Oh yeah sure like we stand a freakin chance on that- they got ya by the globes down there with their rigged meters. BEWARE!
The Sawmill is another venerable Jersey Shore institution. It's the first thing you see when you hit the beginning, or South end of the Seaside Boardwalk or the last place you see if you're heading home to the municipal parking lots.
Practical Note: The parking meters ARE enforced year round. There's some fine print on the signs posted in the lots and on the street. I went here to watch a football game one wintry Sunday and got a nice big parking ticket when I came out after the game. The meters are enforced 24/7 from May through September, but then the small print indicates they are enforced from Thurs night through Mon. morning the rest of the year. I saw about 20 cars with tickets that time I got nailed.
It is a great place to watch sports and for sure, the NFL, as they have the NFL Package and label each TV with the game that will be airing on that TV. This way if you get there early enough, you'll be guaranteed with being right in front of the right TV!
I met Jimbo here yesterday and had a great Bacon Cheese Burger and Fries along with a few Lienenkugel Classic Ambers on tap. Nice!
There were rumors that The Sawmill was closed but they proved to be false. It's a large , sometimes raucous place on many summer nights and that has led to a hard time from the local pols from time to time. To me it's no different in that regard, that is, a hot spot for potential trouble , than any other large shore bar. Mix large, often younger crowds, with the Jersey Shore vacationers and locals on hot summer nights and the occasional melee can ensue in any bar from Sea Bright to Point Pleasant to Seaside to LBI on down. This is as it always was. When I was 21 people called it Sleazeside and many still do, but I love the place!
There are good bands here many nights during the Summer and on weekends during the Winter as well. The "Amish Outlaws" were the next band scheduled but I've never heard them.
Another thing I love about The Sawmill is you didn't see any of those half wits from that MTV show Jersey Shore here. That's because The Sawmill, like several other clubs, didn't want those idiots here tarnishing their reputation, and so refused to sign the releases necessary to allow the show to be filmed there. Kudos to The Sawmill for that!!!
The Pizza here is some of the best you'll find on this or any boardwalk, but a warning: the slices are really big so one may do when you normally would have two. An earlier review mentioned that the only way to eat this pizza is to fold it, and it should be noted that the correct term for this is the "Flatbush Fold", named after the Brooklyn neighborhood from which both this folding practice and yours truly originated.
All in all, The Sawmill is a great place, especially in the summer when you can eat outside and when the windows facing the boardwalk are wide open. Walking by with an attractive woman can lead to comments from those windows but that's also the same anywhere.
Yesterday's winter crowd was entirely different from the summer, as in the winter the locals emerge and return like migrating birds to their favorite traditional watering holes.
The Saw Mill did not burn down. Â It had an electrical fire and they're open serving that massive pizza slice that you know you love. Â Is it the best pizza ever? Â No, but I like it, so whatever.
When I was a kid we'd always walk the boardwalk to the end to make it to the Sawmill for that great big slice that you need to fold in half to eat. (Really the only way to eat a pizza slice is to fold it, you know.) Â Don't give me those little pointy mini slices. Â The Sawmill's slice is the size you want. Â
Sure, the pizza places line the Seaside boardwalk, all looking kind of similar. Â You have your favorites. Â That's fine.
The Sawmill is also a big, loud, concrete floor bar with bartenders who ask for two forms of ID (Who carries 2 forms of ID? Â Maybe they have trouble with fake IDs and such.), but for me, it's a place to get a good slice.
Saw Mill is the epitome of summer. HUGE pies make HUGE slices. This boardwalk pizza joint has been around a very long time, one bite will tell you why!
There's indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar inside. Avoid bringing the kids later in the evening, especially during the weekend, as it can get crowed and loud.
If your not a fan of the Seaside atmosphere, fine. But everyone should try a Saw Mill pizza at least one. You might find yourself there more often.
The absolute best pizza on the Jersey Shore.... And it's a big Jersey Shore! If you have never seen a Saw Mill pie, you will drop to the floor in awe! They are about forty inches wide. Uuummmm, yea that's pretty damn big! The people are awesome, the staff is always great (even though it changes ever summer... lol). I always walk in there in the summer and see at least two people I know. Great place for friends, families, kids, and couples. It's just the ShIzNit!!!! Great food, awesome people, and a good night of fun... what else is summer for??????!!!!!
Review Source:AAAHHHHHH.. the SAWMILL. Being a jersey girl all my life, from spending prom night in Seaside to taking my 2 daughters, in the winter, spring, summer, and fall. The Sawmill has always been the place to go. We bring our relatives from out of town, we meet friends, and still take our girls there, ages 24 and 27.
My girls take their out of town friends there to show off, not only the boardwalk, and all the walks of life it contains, but to see the amazingly large pizza. Any newbie that we take is in awe of the size of the pizza and always comments, "how are we gonna eat all that?"
The Sawmill is the Jersey shore. The prices are great, the pizza, wings, cheese steak,(Philly move over), is everything that you would expect from the boardwalk...GREAT. Also outside seating with pinic like tables. Have a beer with that huge pizza, a  cocktail, it has 2 bars and also an upstairs bar. It is the best in the off season as most of the Jersey Shore is.
This place is a must for any one from out of state, or is not lucky enough to live close enough to go all year round.
Let's see, I discovered the Sawmill on my own terms about nineteen years ago. Â For $1.25 you got a slice of pizza the size of your head, and six ounces of Coke. Â Seeing as how me and my friends would pool our cash just for the gas to get down there, this represented a capital-B Bargain. Â The minor fact that the pizza was actually good seemed less relevant then... we assumed all pizza was good. Â We were lucky youths.
Fast-forward to the Sawmill of today. Â Gone is the elevated platform - group table and the one really bad men's room. Â In place is a wildly expanded dining room with sushi bar, and more new bathrooms, and a greatly expanded bar, and since they decided to expand, they modeled a club upstairs. Â You can still get a slice as large as your head and it's still pretty good, and it's very kid-friendly, which is a fun observation nineteen years later. Â Go, have fun. Â Oh, here's a tip: park further north along the strip, you'll get fifteen minutes per quarter instead of ten just south of the 'Mill. Â And yes, you do have to go to the Sawmill in the off-season to say you've been there.

I love love love this place!
I liked it more before it remodeled, it was a nice cozy little place, however now there is more space, so less waiting to be seated.
The food is pretty good, and a very reasonable price. It is actually cheaper to eat here and tip a waitress than it is to eat at some stand on the boardwalk. My family and I realized this after eating here one night, and then at a stand further down the boardwalk the next night.
The pizza here is very tasty, and it is priced well.
The cheesesteak is also very very good.
Eat here. The End :-)
Superlative afternoon hang. Cheap beer. Great selection and lots of specials. Excellent pizza ( get a group and order a whole pie for the real Sawmill pizza experience) Great no frills steamed lobster dinner as of last season but the price keeps inching up. May have finally broke 20 bucks- I am not sure. In general some good cheap grub here. During football season they do a complimentary half time buffet.
Jukebox very mediocre for my taste but the 20 somethings and old sleazesiders seem to do fine with it.
At night there are concerts upstairs and if not, there is a thumpety thump DJ and I avoid the place like the plague. Lots of steroids and fights and hair gel goin' on... and that's just the staff! And yeah, even though it's Seaside Park, to me it screams Seaside Heights circa 80 something. Stick to the downstairs  before the late night clubbers infiltrate though, and this is a really fun place to drink and have a bite.  Stay in the front to people watch by the boards...Head to the back bar if you want more elbow room, and the dining room if you're with a group that wants to eat. If there's a wait it's never all that long, in my experience and you can wait at the bar.
