We arrived about an hour before karaoke was supposed to start, but they were already going strong. The rotation was already packed, and it took about an hour to get a turn, and a second turn was about an hour and forty minutes after that one! Holy cow! Pop was doing his best, and only did the cupid shuffle once for a break, so it must have just been a busy night. We made a few friends at the table near us, and were entertained by a group of 'karaoke groupies' who would create a dancing/shots/and girl-girl makeout moments.
We were quikly told they had no food, even though some reviews said they had eaten there. We got a 'this is a BAR, feel free to bring something with you or order a pizza' from our waitress.
They have a killer rum punch, and our waitress was very attentive, even after we tabbed out.
Their karaoke guy is there Fri, Sat & Wed.. maybe Wed will be LESS busy and we can sing without such a huge wait in the middle!
BTW, the drive is not lit, so pay  it is just after a little bridge coming from I-30!
It's not often that I get a chance to party in Rockwall, but when the opportunity to jump on the best karaoke train in town (so says Nickie G.) presented itself, I jumped on it. Â Quite literally.
The Scoreboard isn't typically what I would think of as a dive, since it's a pretty big space and everything is well kept, but the regulars would probably disagree with me. Â And it's the regulars that make this bar so much fun.
Besides having a blast with karaoke (which, btw, is led by a cool ass granddad wielding a computer with every song known to man) I had a blast with the local crowd. Â This isn't a we-don't-like-your-kind kinda bar, this is an all-aboard-the-party-train kinda bar, where you're likely to be dancing with several generations of the same family and you'll probably be invited to Thanksgiving.
Drinks were exactly like I like them - cheap and stiff as hell. Â Our rounds of Coors Light and 7&7 were $7.50, which won't buy you a single cocktail at most places. Â Our waitress, Shazam (I'm sure there was a real name in there somewhere) rocked our socks off and took care of us like we were her own.
The only downside was waking up the next day and feeling like I'd smoked a pack of cigarettes. Â This was probably one of the smokiest bars I've ever been in and that's saying something. Â Luckily for me, I was having too much fun at the time to really care. Â But know that if you're sensitive to smoke, this isn't the place for you.
I'm sure I won't find myself at Scoreboard very often, but when I do, it's sure to be epic.
We decided to try Scoreboard out for it's Karaoke because it's the closest to us. We called to confirm Karaoke time on Saturday Nights and was told 9:00pm. We arrived at that time and located a few songs to submit.
The guy operating the Karaoke equipment never called our names. We checked on it and he told us we would be coming up soon but keep calling on his friends to come up and sing. We stayed until sometime after 12:00 and were never able to sing. It was a disappointment that he let his friends repeatedly go up and ignored us. We will take out business elsewhere.
Ok, if you have read any of my reviews, you know I don't go far out of my home turf. Â But I will go to the Scoreboard in Rockwall about once every 2 or three months. Â My friends live out there and that's where we go hang out (luckily I can spend the night too). Â Basically, this is the dive to end all dives. Â The waitstaff remembers you, most of the patrons know each other from multiple nights out, etc. Â The crowd often times runs older but there's usually a mix of ages...anywhere from 21 to 71...don't miss the hilarious old grandma lady who gets trashed and dances around on the dance floor trying to chat up younger dudes! haha
There's beer of course, mixed drinks, and they have a siren that goes off periodically for SHOT SPECIALS! Â Who doesn't love that? Â They don't have food, it is that much of a dive, but they have no problem with you running down the street to the closest fast food place to get something and bring it in. Â
The best thing is the Karaoke guy that is there on Friday and Saturday nights. Â He's got the rockstar set up...the songs are on the computer, so if you don't see a song in the book he can look it up and you can still sing it. Â This would be the first place I ever sang karaoke by myself, because, well, I'm in Rockwall and I don't live there, so who cares?! Â Lots of people sing country songs which is a whippin if you don't like it, but we always sing rock selections....and I always bust out a rap song...sometimes to a lot of dancing, sometimes to crickets chirping. Â Either way, it is a RIOT!
