Place is much better after they removed the carpet (no more old smell). Service has always been great, and true, usually guys in the joint. The bf and I always go to watch a Euro Soccer Match and moderately priced beer.

Not sure if the jukebox still works, but last time I had a blast playing The Smiths and the like. A few doors down from India Sweets & Spices (aka ISS). Stop by for Indian veggie and say hi to Lucky, cool dude.

Ok....here is the lastest update....new hardwood floors replaced the oldddddddddd carpet.... Much better look and smell. Hahahahaha....plus they have free WiFi.... They are also introducing some new hard ciders on draft and have been brining in some new beers on a rotating basis...

Oh yenta they brought back pitchers...  Plus dont forget the weekly live bands that come

Lots of "kept" men who can afford to drink and play darts all day with nary a sugar mama in sight. These are some lucky dudes!

Stopped by one afternoon to find the ratio of men: women to be about 35:4 (we were a party of four ladies).

If you are a woman/girl/chick/lady, then for sure go with your posse. Something tells me that a woman alone will encounter what I call "excess attention" and these are not young stallions here, but rather retired race horses.

Decent drink specials and an ambience that rather does recall at least Glasgow make it a local hang out worth marinating in...from time to time (with an entourage if you are a girl).

Fun place if you like a more unique crowd and loud music.

I stayed for an hour and had enough during that time.

What seemed like a nice night seeing Cutty Flam play turned into a garden of yuck when about fifteen punk bros rolled in like a bad fog at the end of the set, turning the place into a big cringey sausage party. Thanks but no thanks. Coulda been fun but this place borders big time on a bro bar.

This place sucks and the bartenders have a bad attitude! they're unfriendly and kinda full of themselves. Please you're a bartender! Lol
The DJ plays some nice tunes here and there but does not have a style or theme.
This is a dive bar... so for people that like dives this might be a good stop for you. Not for me!

I really like this place, it's very diverse and unique in its own way. The only times I like coming here are on Saturdays because the crowd gets big and they even have upcoming bands preform with a variety of music. You can find all types of people in this bar and never come across a fight or poor behavior (at least from my experience) next door there's a pool hall and a hoocka bar if you feel the need to change it up.

Now for the important part: THE ALCOHOL: they serve only beer and wine at this place witch I think is the cool part about it, it's really a place to go and enjoy a nice drink without having people get stupid drunk off of hard liquor. The only thing about this place that sux is the fact that they don't serve pitchers anymore, or Purple haze beer (if u haven't tried that, you should!) If Scotland Yard serves a bigger selection of beer (like the yard house) and wines, this place will be a bigger hit especially if they move to a bigger space.

OVERAL, this bar is a whole in the wall that's fun to go to if your an open minded person and knows how to have a good time at any place. If your the type that needs to be in a fancy place with a certain type of crowd: this place isn't for you.

I'm not a frequent visitor to The Scotland Yard, but I've had friends that bring me through for a good show from a local band and a few good beers. I love a good dive bar, and Scotland Yard definitely delivers. I was just out there on Thursday night for The Expanders show. The bar was a little stickier than i would have liked it to be... but   there was a good crowd and decent sound system for such a small space.

Check out a recap of my night last thursday at the Scotland Yard Pub at my new blog <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FEverlovesting.com&s=63ef0c54f84facc5837f1e043797f8921e82ca90a7ff0ba1f1fb04a1979b54e7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Everlovesting.com</a>: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2F7lHsIkUF&s=f1cf2e851f33ca79113e2fc5846fe600395eb6305142f83b373d8588dfe94a3e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://t.co/7lHsIkUF</a>

    So,
Ever wonder what happen to the kids you went to school with that thought they were different. Some thought they were punk, some thought they were goth, etc. Well come to this place and you'll run into all of them. Girls overly tatted, guys overly pierced (yes I said that in the right order). Everyone listening to distorted music chatting about nonsense.
If you feel like being crammed into a small room standing next to the weird kid from your old high school photo shop class then this is the place for you.
I am willing to bet that 95% of the people that come here used to go to the Cobalt cafe next door when they were younger to watch sh*ty garage bands. Now that they are older and everyone they know that had a band is some 30 year old that sleeps on moms couch only to get up and head to this place.

    Bottom line
    This place sucks a*s

Scotland Yard is a little dive bar where you go for a few beers with some friends (obviously). They don't have any hard alcohol though, but the bar next door does if you really need some. Pool table is cool, they have some darts, and places to sit. Beer is reasonably priced and good selection too. They could make the place look a little nicer, but maybe its their style. Live music at times, which can sometimes be good or sometimes sort of obnoxious. Good location because theirs a bar, hookah lounge, and billiards place right next door. If you want to go somewhere even a little fancy, then this is not your place!

Oh good lord, as an Englishman and a life long pub enthusiast this place takes divey to the new level of just plain dirty.  If they spruced this place up a bit, even dusted occasionally the atmosphere could shine through, come on whoever owns this make a minimal effort. There is no reason to go here whatsoever unless you are  deluded hipster who thinks you are having some hip, dusty, smelly experience. I don't know how this place survives.  Not particularly friendly either, it has that typical Brit attitude -- I should know -- that they are doing you a favor by serving you. Walk in and be instantly depressed, plus there are no women who will venture here so why go? Go to the White Harte instead much more fun and not a health hazard.

When I moved to LA over 6 years ago this was the first bar I ever went to.  Then for some reason I didn't go back until about a month ago.

I had a hard time rating this bar.  There is nothing wrong with this bar.  There is also nothing that totally blew me away about it either.  I did like the look and feel of the place.  Very British.  The whole place was kind of mild and quite until they started with the music.  The band was also pretty decent.

Very hard to decide between a 3 or a 4 star.

This place is way too cool for me...

Came here with a friend, we went to the bar and I got a glass of wine and she got a beer. I think I was the only person that week who had ordered wine because I felt like everyone looked at me and my wine glass. The seating is really non existent. I'm not sure what it is about sitting right next to someone instead of in front of them but I felt like we looked like a lesbian couple trying to talk and leaning in close to hear each other over the blaring music haha.

So I gave up after a while and started to people watch and concluded that this is the place for the people who were too cool for school. I was never one of those people and I never will be. I'll make sure to recommend this place to someone who is too bad ass for their own good.

I love the pub but there's no women.  Every woman I've taken in there says the same thing, "It stinks in there."

Men either don't smell it or don't care, but women do and I'm sure it's the carpet.  It's old and disgusting and there's no way it's not the source of the smell.

They should rip out the carpet and leave the floor as bare cement.  Polish it a bit or wax it or whatever to make it modern industrial looking.  (I worked at a place that did this. They left the spray paint on the ground from the construction that designated where to put electricity and walls and stuff. It was really cool looking.)

Get rid of that carpet - get rid of the smell - get some women in there.
That carpet is really bringing that place down.

I essentially avoid this place like the plague when I can. I always seem to get dragged into the place by my friends, ya that's fun, the sober driver. The place sucks as it is, imagine sitting in it SOBER. It is in a shady area behind an alley in a not so great neighborhood. It smells funny, the place is cramped and tiny, the music usually isn't very good.. and ugh, the people, don't get me started on the people. I guess maybe if I was drunk I wouldn't notice these things..

I have no problems with the staff, in fact that is the only plus is that everyone that works there seems to be generally nice.

I'd give it one star, but since you actually had Flatiron Truck there the other night, I will give them two. I guess if dive bars are your thing, feel free to stop by there.

Everytime I walk into this place, the first thing i notice is..... the SMELL!! It smells SO awful. Some kind of combination of sweat, barf, smoke and piss. However, once you get pass the smell (only can be done with a few beers), you will begin to enjoy this little bar.

They only have beer, wine and sake, but I don't mind the selection.  They've got one pool table and two dart boards. I love coming here to play darts. One, because its free. Two, because its fun! It is a little scary when you have the regulars hogging the board, but if you come on a weekday there is usually a board that isn't being used. I love darts!

The people here are pretty interesting. Definetly ranges from the youngins to grandpa status. Usually the people here are friendly, sometimes too friendly.  So girls, beware for creepers.

The bartenders are so nice here. Every single one of them. They get you your drink relatively fast and are so helpful!!

This place is honestly a great place to come on a random day to grab a few beers and play some games.

This place is awesome. It is a really small bar, so it does tend to feel pretty crowded at times. Its a wine and beer only bar. They do have nigori sake. Its about 5 dollars a beer. If you want hard alc there is always Casey's next door.

The crowd is usually pretty fun. I've had a few random dart games with fellow newbies in the bar. Then there are those intimidating fellows who can pretty much hit their mark every time. There are two dart boards and a pool table. Not else much to say but a really great place to go to wind down after a long day or to just hang out with friends.

As a side note after 9 PM the only way in is through the back.

    Ooooh I love this place...

This place really reminds me of those small - hidden pubs in the shady streets of Londoon... It's so stuffy and.. well, proper (dive bar)!
Cheap drinks, great music.. I've been here on a Thursday once and they had the coolest band playing. Smallest of stage, more like a ramp and the guy was playing a double bass.. wicked, huhh??

Seems that there's a mix of a crowd here and generaly just a marry/ jolly athmosphere... The bartenders are always nice and helpful and the 'dudes' outside are funny cool too....

Deffo on muy top 5 places in the valley.. Who fancies a drink??

    "Newcky Brown Please"

Simple: beer, wine, & sake! Pool & darts. Friends & strangers. Good vibe, good attitude, no drama!

Friends host a Bike n Beats event here every few Wednesdays of the month. We met at the bar, bike for an hour or so, come back to the bar, and drink beer! Now we have food trucks coming to the lot so it makes coming to the spot better!!!

WARNING drunkards - don't forget to close out your credit cards or they add an extra fee.

It's a dive, I know. But I had some good times here! Pitchers of beer with the cousins, relaxed times with the girls. They only serve beer and wine but it's a chill place to kick back for a good drink.

They play random music. One night was british 80's punk night. Another night was a live ska band. I was surprised ska is even up and kicking. They've got random decor on the walls. If you like hubcaps and British police helmets, I guess this is the place for you!

The people. Well, it's in the scary part of Canoga Park, folks. So expect cheap drinks and even cheaper pickup lines. "So what's a nice lady like you doing in a place like this?"

Making an excuse to go stand over there. As soon as possible.

It was a bust of a night, and we ended up here. This place is right next to the Cobalt Cafe, which I've avoided since high-school and seeing friends play shows there.

First and foremost, I will go out of my way to say that the bouncer was incredibly nice. Though he looks intimidating, we initially couldn't get in because the place was filled to capacity. They had some sort of live punk band playing there.

Inside, it's very dark. The first thing you see is a hall to the left to head to the facilities. Being that I drink a LOT of water, I typically hit these first before I start drinking. I could care less if you have the crappiest pub/bar in the world, if your bathroom isn't clean (It's one room.), then it's usually a deal breaker. It was pretty unkept in there.

I went back out to the bar to meet my friends and ordered a corona and a guiness. Beers were close to 7 bucks a bottle. Yikes. Write in the tip, and I'm there for nearly 16-18 bucks for TWO beers.

The inside atmostphere of the place definitely has character. Everything is themed after British law enforcement, which gives it an interesting vibe, but for the most part, this place revels in the fact that the inside of it is so dark and dirty that it's supposed to be "just like London." I'm proud to be an American, and I also don't dig on sitting on beer kegs instead of drinking out of them.

The bar plays a grip of punk music as well. It's incredibly loud.

If you're really that pressed for somewhere to go, you can check this place out...but it's not going to be hard to top it.

Um...I have NO IDEA why this place has a four-star average rating. Have you people been inside this place? I'm sorry, but beer kegs covered in just enough stained red fabric so that you aren't literally sitting on the keg - but can feel it digging into your ass - is not my idea of a good time.

The beer was fine, I was never offered a 22 oz. glass although that's all I wanted after a long night at work. Instead, probably because of my small frame, the bartender kept serving me these small beers without allowing me the chance to tell him to PLEASE GIVE ME THE LARGER GLASS!

I went on "punk rock" Tuesdays because a friend of mine is into that music. I felt like I was trapped in the Cobalt Cafe's parent's house. In fact, I'm convinced that after everyone goes through their awkward punk rock phase in high school and attend shows at the Cobalt, they graduate and move directly next door to The Scotland Yard! Everyone was dressed very scene except for me...I was definitely the only female in high heels that weren't Doc Martin-style boots up to my knees.

After the bartender told me to "drink up and get the fuck out" I gladly got myself out of there as quickly as possible. I am sure I'll never go back there either. I almost invited a friend and I'm glad I didn't because it was that junky of a dive.

This place is in dire need of renovation. Some new carpet and refurbished seating may help their shappy appearance.

In the pub's defense, my British brother-in-law LOVES this place because it reminds him so much of getting a pint back home in London.

I'll admit that I'm biased; my cousin's band-- the wonderfully funky Soul Scratch, you should check them out-- plays here frequently, so I'd like Scotland Yard even if it wasn't awesome. Thank goodness it is.

Four stars, four points, one star per point as follows:

    1. Soul Scratch. Duh.
    2. The Scotland Yard theme reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes series, which makes me happy.
    3. Booze isn't expensive, but then again I'm not paying for myself, so I don't really care in the first place.
    4. One more point for Soul Scratch because they're just that darn good.

    Four stars.

p.s., you should check out Soul Scratch. I know I sound like a commercial, but that's only because I kind of am.

I'm a dive bar kind of girl. Scotland Yard is right up my alley! Arriving already drunk off margaritas, Scotland Yard was just what I needed to relax and wrap my lips around a beer.

Our second bar hop stop of the night, Scotland Yard is British police themed and the place is cluttered with related paraphernalia. I especially like the London sky line light up wall right behind the bar. Another cool thing I noticed is that the stools are empty kegs with comfy cushions stuck on top!

There's pool, darts, and they had a DJ who played Talking Heads, so he was alright by me! They serve only beer, and I think some wine, which I thought was kind of refreshing. Know where to stop to get a beer in a no fuss environment. I got a pint of Sierra Nevada for about $5...yes I've been to cheaper places, but this is a fairer price then many places.

Yes I'm a fan of Scotland Yard, and I'd definitely come back.

Good, cheap beer.  Music was pretty good.

The vibe is sort of strange.  So far as being a British pub goes, it's got a lot of the look but none of the feel.  In fact, the extent to which the walls are plastered with faux brit-kitsch is kind of obnoxious.

I hear the scene changes from night to night, but when I was there the gender ratio was way off (a few old dudes, a grip of male twentysomethings, and one woman playing pool in the back).  I wasn't there to pick up ladies, but I find that having a good mix of people around improves the bar-going experience.  Maybe it's just me.

All in all, not a terrible place to grab a beer but I don't feel particularly inclined to return.

There is no place in LA that holds as special a place in my heart as The Scotland Yard Pub.  Sometime in late 2005, shortly after I had moved out here, my friend Joe said "I think I know a place you might like" and we went here.  It was a Saturday night back in the heyday of 80's night with Mixmaster Noah Massey and it was so damn fun.

This was also back when people were still allowed to smoke in there which, even though I don't smoke, made the atmosphere even better.  Something about allowing smoking inside that just makes people happy.  It's weird I know.

But I digress.  For the longest time after that, Scotland Yard Pub was my Saturday night and Thursday night drinking destination.  Back then you just couldn't go wrong with the prices, atmosphere and music.

Now, things have changed a bit.  I haven't been there on a Saturday night but once or twice since Noah packed up his crates of records and left for what I hope are greener pastures.  It was just never the same after he left.  It was around that time that they got with the times and stopped letting people smoke inside as well.

One thing you can set your watch to with this place though, is Thursday nights.  I was just there last night (yep, a Thursday) and the walls were moving just like they always have been on Thursday nights.  They have rotating group of reggae and funk bands that play on Thursdays and each one seems to bring in its own crowd along with the slew of regulars and familiar faces you'll always see.  Some bands are much better or worse than others but you just have to roll the dice.

They also have my favorite bartender in LA.  Due to my job I'll sometimes go months without making it in there, the longest stretch being about 8 straight months without going there.  Well, when I finally made my return after the hiatus he looked at me like "I know you" then proceeded to point at me and say "Kronenburg, right?"  Then he shook my hand and gave me my drink.  Considering how packed that place can get at times I consider it pretty amazing that a bartender would care enough about his customers to remember even the unregularist of regulars.

One last note; Any time I have a friend come to town to visit me I bring them here on Thursday, not one of them has ever been disappointed.

Not too many choices for the West Valley, now is there?  Despite the lack of variety, Scotland Yard still serves as a decent night out.  No need to be dressy,  just make sure you showered that day and you're wearing clean clothes as opposed to something you've pulled out of the hamper.  (not that every patron that frequents this spot is that meticulous, but by doing this you'll be ahead of the curve.)

Hope you like beer, cause that's what they're serving.  Closest thing you can get to a shot is sake which is always welcome.  Casey's (few doors down) has you covered if you need something in between besides a cold beer.  And they're super cheap but a completely different vibe for a different review.

The proprietors, Simon and his wife are really cool and will get to know you if you stop in more than a few times.  The bouncers are cool too and are just there to make sure no one gets too out of hand.  Nice jukebox too.  Man, I love jukeboxes.

To sum up, it's a nice, casual pub to play some darts, enjoy some beers, meet someone new, if that's what you're looking for and spend some quality time if this so oft overlooked part of the valley.

I was in the area with some friends and had a craving to go somewhere to drink that wasn't a TGI Friday's or an old man bar and had read about the place on yelp. This place is what I expected from being a very local pub in the middle of the Valley.

First impression as I walked through the doors: some of the decorations adorning the walls are really cheesy. It looks like they raided a tourist shop in Leicester Square and just got anything they thought looked vaguely British and flung it on the walls here.

The ratio of men to women is a bit high.  I was with two girl friends and both were accosted by middle-aged drunken men who were a little too enthusiastic. Later that night, a ska band played.  I don't know if that was why everyone there that night looked like they stepped out of 1995, or if the people there just don't like to make much of an effort (speaking of which, is that what makes them "real?")

I ordered a Guinness, but the flavor was oddly metallic; maybe the keg needed to be changed. My friend got a Blue Moon, which was really good.

The bathrooms were by far the diviest thing about the place.  By the end of the night my friend was pretty drunk and didn't want to wait for the ladies' so she ended up peeing outside on the street somehow.

Bottom line, not the classiest joint, but that's part of its low-key charm.  It could be fun if you're in the area and just want to get a beer with some friends - I had a good time.

Really small bar, which is why it always feels like it's overcrowded.

$4-5 beers and you can even get $1 shots of hot sake (or a bottle of 6 shots for $5). They only serve beer and wine here, but you can always walk on over to Casey's a few doors down for some hard liquor.

The crowd can be a hit or a miss. Surprisingly there are some very cute girls here once in a while.

The bartenders are pretty cool and if you can find a seat this place is pretty chill.

P.S. After 9pm the entrance is near the parking lot, in the back of the bar.

I prefer CASEYS when im in the area, but ill head to the pub every so often. Avoid the bathroom on saturdays (sniff, sniff) and the back door area (JA, mOn, smokey).
No police in this area? HAHA. live and let live , i guess...Live music on Thursdays (standing room only)--good luck trying to get a drink though!
    Not really a one star place...maybe a one and a half....LOL

A pub that is police themed. Seems like some sort of oxymoron come to life, but it works!

I personally am a fan of this place. They actually have people there on weekends and it is close enough to home to wander home drunkenly. Good vibe and pitchers made for a good evening of shooting the shiz with my little bro (I love now that he's over 21!) and some of the ol' high school buddies. Also darts and live music (although not at the same time!).

Recently the friends have started going to the Little Rock (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/XvMLuXEWRBkuq8xKXaWCWw">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>) and the little bro has fallen in love with the White Harte (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/GOhWJuojTbKytcXief2elw">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>), but that's okay, I'll be back to Scotland Yard soon enough!

I led a subdued existence the night I hung here.  I tend to do that with new places.  Sitting back and watching the room has it's advantages.  The dj was good(ok ok...I knew him) but the rest lacked a certain...oh...I don't know....liquor license?  I'm all about choices.  And most of the time I choose wine anyway.  This place just wasn't doing it for me though.  The dj was about it.  There was one thing not lacking here and that was barflies.  Sorry, I buy my own drinks.

Nice hole-in-the-wall type of bar. Friendly bartenders and cheap drinks. The best part is the live music that rotates. Check out their myspace for info.

The decor is definitely worn-in and beat down - where else can you find kegs as stools and cutout heads of police as part of the ambiance?

The crowd is random, so go with a friend or two. Overall, it's a good local bar, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get here.

I wish it wasn't sooo damn far from where I live.  That's the only reason Scotland Yard doesn't get 5 stars on my review.  Not sure who's fault that is, but fuck it.  I said it, and I'll stick to it.

Scotland Yard is not your ordinary tavern.  They don't serve liquor, but why should they when you can get mega cheap shots a couple of doors down at Casey's.  They serve beer, wine and Saki.  Yes, I did say Saki.  I figure that's because they don't have a liquor license, but that's fine with me.  There's a steel tip dart board and a bar pool table for you to fart around with.  They've got a couple of really cool resident DJ's that spin vinyl, which is becoming a thing of the past.  A dying breed some might say.

What makes Scotland Yard special?  I believe it's the unique ambiance.  The collective twist of British and Scottish culture all rolled into one, I believe does it.  The bartenders are friendly, as I've been there a few times solo.  Personally, I think what sells a bar is whether the bartender can make you feel at ease; say what's on your mind and laugh about it.

The locals are friendly, too.  Most of them do what I do: jump between the Yard and Casey's.  Rest assured, you'll find yourself closing out the Yard before you know it.

Check it out.  Should you close the joint and find yourself a bit peckish, there's a Tommie's across the street.  I recommend a Double Cheese Burger with Chili-Cheese Fries and a large diet Pepsi.  Why diet?  Cause I think it tastes better than regular without the thirsty after-taste for more.

Yelp is making me feel like an alcoholic. Which I don't mind so much, but damn....all my reviews involve getting trashed. Anyway, this local pub saved my sanity many a night back in the day after getting out of work near midnight. The bartenders are friendly if at times a little too friendly with their co-workers to get me my drinks as fast as my lack of patience would like, the people here are generally without pretension and some are just trashy, which is heartily amusing to watch (the 40-something woman with fake boobies hanging out of her shirt trying to get some college student to buy her a pint-hilarity my friends, especially after a few of my own pints downed).

Entertaining British themed decor, pool and darts, and live music at least the first Thursday of the month make this one of the few enjoyable places to hang out in the west SFV at night.
