Really really love this restaurant. The wife and I come here with our 2 little girls (4 and 3yrs old) and each time the wait staff is really great in dealing with a family.

They go out of their way to give you great customer service. The waitress once even went so far as to come outside and let me and my daughter know that dessert had been served (we were in the back looking at the koi pond) .
Everything we have ordered has been flavorful and cooked perfectly. I have gotten the calamari sandwich and dinner on separate occasions and it's not overcooked at all.  Their sauces are delicious without being overpowering and they don't drown the food in them either.

We recently had a party there for 25 people and not once was anybody waiting for the waitress or service of any kind. The great staff along with not one person having a complaint about the food made it a great night.

They even allowed us to order off menu (it was a small menu due to the group size) without giving us grief.

    Would HIGHLY recommend this place.

What a fun place for a live band! Tsunami is on tonight and they are so fun with their excellently done rock covers. Nachos are a good bar item and dinner in the past has been elegant, fast and tasty. Good wine selection. Good bar service even when super full.

Above average in every department. They do so well with the mix of local regulars and all the motel guests. The staff seems to never change so that's an indication of how well run the place is. The food always satisfies, holiday buffets are "killer" and they have one of few pretty good dance floors that you can make good use of with the great bands they hire. This place is #1 in my GPS

Arriving at the Best Western late for an interview, I realized I needed lunch.  The Best Western offered a $5.00 coupon toward a beverage, so I ordered a sandwich to go with a couple cans of soda.  I got the grilled chicken sandwich, special ordered with just mayo and lettuce.  I checked into my room and returned for the food.  They got me a couple of large cups with ice for the sodas, and the sandwich came with a salad.

Chicken was cooked nicely, although it was a bit too charred for my taste on the outside. They had separate packets of Lite Mayo, which turned out being OK. It really was just what I needed before the interview, not too filling.

I later checked out their dinner menu, and was surprised to see that they charge 10% for to-go orders!!  I didn't see it on their menu earlier, and I was not given an itemized receipt that reflected this charge!!  Although I saved on the sodas, I gave them a high tip not knowing that I was paying 10% for the to-go option.

Ambiance is nice, as I walked through several times while I was staying at the hotel I noticed that they had a nice jazz band playing during happy hour and the bar was full.  There is a nice patio area with a koi pond, and that area was also full both at happy hour and for the breakfast time in the morning.

If I get the second interview I will stay here again and might dine here as well.

This review is for there clam chowder only. They won an award for best clam chowder in the Santa Cruz chowder cook off. I bought a quart which came to $16.50 WAY OVERPRICED. Yes it was good but you can get the same size at Stagnaro's on the wharf or Ideal Bar & Grill or ANY of the many places in Monterey on the wharf for about $10.00 for a quart. I would give them 4-5 star rating for this if they bring there price back down to earth.

Sunday brunch. Very average food, service, and atmosphere. Won't go back unless I have to, or they improve on everything.

My husband, our son, a friend & I went on Christmas Day.  To be honest, when we first saw the buffet tables, we were a little disappointed.  We had expected more of a variety of foods for the price.  However, once we started eating, we realized that we were mistaken.  Although the quantity was not there, the QUALITY was definitely there!  The food was fresh, the flavors were all delicious, and to make our meal perfect, the waitress was absolutely WONDERFUL!

Not what it used to be. Menu has changed and food is just ok-not seasoned well. Way too pricey for what you get.

This restaurant is just alright for me. I like the happy hour and the beautiful views. The TV's are ok if you sit at the bar but they're all pretty small, especially when you're sitting at one of the tables in the bar area. I've had most of the items on their menu since I come around with friends who also like the happy hour and I can't say that anything is amazing. I like the littleneck clams that are braised in white wine and butter though. Sometimes they do a nice steak but I'll rarely get one here. There always seems to be a lot of staff too. I see them standing around talking often. And out of every time I've been to Severino's I've been acknowledged by whoever is at the hostess desk maybe twice. Otherwise they're on their phones or talking with other employees. I like smiles, Hello's, and Have a good night's. Maybe it's just me.
Once in a while I'll catch a good band and it'll make the experience better. I see a lot of familiar people here also since it is one of those local hangouts which is always nice to see good people. But I tend to only come here out of convenience.

Solid four star joint!  I have to admit I was skeptical of this place.  I wasn't expecting such great things from a Best Western hotel restaurant.  Severino's is a NICE place.  I really enjoyed dining on their patio.  The water trickling around their massive koi pond drowns out the freeway noise and gives the patio an elegant little charm.  Good food and charming atmosphere sums this place up nicely.  Order the coconut prawn appetizer.  Seriously order the coconut prawns!  Order it!

I had a great evening and dinner at the host of EVA as our server... She was above and beyond accommodating to my boyfriend and I. I hope that next time we are blessed enough to go there we have a server as gracious and great at her job as she.

We started out with Mozzarella Sticks and the presentation of them was superb, I hadn't ever seen them come out such. They were in a Five Star Point Formation ( * ) and in between them was the marinara and Parmesan cheese - it was beyond expectation with taste as well - SO highly RECOMMEND THOSE!
After our appetizer we enjoyed their AWARD WINNING CLAM CHOWDER... and by george I think they've GOT IT! The taste is unlike any other and if it absolutely supreme! ~also Highly RECOMMENDED!
Our meals were also amazing, I enjoyed a bar menu entree' as well as my boyfriend did too. We had the CLUB and the Prime Rib Sandwich, and neither of them made any complaints come out of our mouths. We could only get a few smiles in between our tasteful bites we couldn't stop enjoying!!! We were there on a Saturday Night and they were busy with a memorial service in the bar area... and my goodness I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't see it when walking in because it didn't effect our timely and amazing service that we received... the busser/food runner was also top form, he had excellent customer service as he always kept our table clean and gave us everything we needed before having to ask... which is practically unheard of... now either I was dreaming or they had a great day at work - which ever it is I hope they have the same kinda day when I re-visit there - OVER and OVER again!

I have a thing about consistency
It is a very important part of a good place to eat
    This place is just that
I know I will get a great lunch and if I request extra beurre blanc I will get it no hassles
I bring people here all the time
I am a Chef who does not mind paying but poor quality really annoys me and I have never left annoyed from Severinos

I gave it two stars for the lack of hospitality from the front of the house.  Back of the house seemed okay, the food was okay, the price was a bit high but compared to the location I can see the owner doing that... We actually didn't order like we would normally order (my husband found nothing appetizing except the side order of biscuits and gravy) because they seemed to make the joint marketed as a "finer dining" I ended up ordering the skirt steak marinated in teriyaki.  Too "charred" tasting  for morning and over marinated but at least the meat was tender.

Yes, the service is slow even during the down times.  I hope they changed this since I last dined there.  Perhaps the morning crew is lazier than the night crew (since diners during dinner time naturally spend more so the wait staff is inclined to be more "happier?")

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with the family.  It was a pleasant day, we were able to be seated outside by the koi pond.  It was clean and not too loud.  Considering the outside dining is within walking distance of the pool,  Our food was brought out not too hot or cold.  The food was ok.  The go to was the kids burger.  The size of an adult burger for a couple dollars less.  The beer battered fries that accompanied the burger were tasty.  Overall the appeal for us was to sit outside and enjoy the weather and company.  The food is avg .  We will be going back good food, nice atmosphere, and our kids can move around.

Great brunch! I've only been there for happy hour and brunch but I love this place. They have outdoor seating next to a huge koy pond...it's beautiful. Their brunch is awesome...I had the eggs benedict and it was delicious...the sauce was perfect and so were the eggs.

They have wonderful mimosas and bloody marys too.

The service was very slow however. Mostly due to the fact that there were not enough waitresses. It took almost an hour to get our bill...which didn't bother us too much because we were having a good time...but if you are in a hurry or with a small amount of people...this would be a major problem. The food was also very slow coming out. For six of us to dine it took about three hours...so only visit this place if you aren't in a hurry!

Definately stop here for a brunch or a happy hour if you are in Santa Cruz!

Great food, great service, great ambiance... and they have belly dancing monthly! I had the salmon ceaser salad. It was at half price, so I paid only $8. It was a substantial portion, and quite delicious! Severino's is a winner!!

The restaurant arm of the Best Western Seacliff in Aptos, I was surprised to find it REALLY crowded on a Friday for happy hour which runs until 6:30. The hostess was saying that it is usually crowded for happy hour, it seemed like a locals hangout. Certain appetizers are half off and drinks are reasonable. Pints were $3. Wow.

Since it is part of the hotel, you still get the koi pond view and family feel. Food-wise, I had the calamari which was just okay. I've never experienced calamari that was served up in thin, quadrilateral flat pieces. How would you even do that to a squid? Also had the onion rings, eh, just okay.

Service was good and cheerful. Really, what else can you say for a Best Western restaurant?

I hate to say it, but I do love this place. At first my dad (daddy-o) started coming here after work for drinks and I would make fun of him because I didn't think it was cool to catch drinks at the local Best Western restaurant. But it's pretty not bad and if you're looking for a stiff drink with friendly service. Major plus (although some people may think it's cheesy) they offer local entertainment ranging from magicians to musicians.

Half Off Menu Prices on Tuesdays!
This is a fabulous day to check the place out. I really enjoyed my lunch. They also give miles for the frequent flyer dining rewards program. A double bonus, yeah! The food was above average;  the service good;  the ambiance fine; and the location was nice. Easy to find location is a plus. Enjoy!

Descent food, and pretty good happy hour. But, it gets crowded and the wait staff gets a bit overwhelmed.  The atmosphere is nice and cozy. And as my friend said it took  while to get our next round ordered.  I had a specialty (Moscow Mule-Kettle One, lime juice and ginger ale) and split the fish taco plate with a girlfriend.  The drink was made well and the fish was fried nicely in a fluffy beer batter.  I will be back again.  But, it will only be for happy hour.

half off Tuesdays are the only way you are going to get me to come here.

The servers were super slow and never around when you needed them

The prime rib was delicious... the veggies were a miss for me.. the potato.. well you can't go wrong with a baked potato right?

Magician was doing tricks for tables which was a nice touch.

I have been to Severino's many times over the last ten years and this by far was the worst experience I have had ever. I am giving it 2 stars and not one because of that. First the hostess was distracted and lost with personal conversations with other employees. The service that I am used to receiving was not there at all. I could rant for several chapters about how bad it was but as to save time I will cut to the chase. 1. Food not up to normal standards could have done better at Jefferys. 2. Lynda hardly came by the table to check up on us, water glass never refilled and my date did not order a second glass of wine because she never came by. 3. So the final straw is that Lynda after I paid my check forgot to return my credit card and I had to track her down to get it back. I will return but not for a while.

I took note of this place when I went to the Santa Cruz Clam Chowder cook-off, and this place won in several categories. My boyfriend has lived in Boston for quite some time and loves authentic Bostom clam chowder, so I have wanted to find a great place on this side of the country for them.

We finally decided to stop by here. We got the clam chowder and it was pretty good -- not at the calibre of Boston clam chowders but it's good for what I've tasted on the west coast. We also got the coconut prawns. The coconut "shell" is great, very coconut-y and crispy. The prawns fall a bit short though...

Service is a bit slow, like what others mentioned. However, it was quite a busy day at the restaurant, I've been told (around 1/3 of the restaurant is filled, go figure), and maybe it's because of the world cup.

After a long ass drive up to the Aptos, CA, my friend and I are starving and didn't feel like leaving the Western to stop the grumbling in our tummies.

The restaurant itself was nice, and the atmosphere was tasteful... it was the service and the food that got me rethinking our choice. We had to wait about 10 minutes (ok, ok, it was 8 min) for the hostess to come seat us (she had to go get her fix of a soda and a plate of french fries). Once seated and looking over the menu, we placed our drink orders and waited for our waitress to come back and take our dinner order. 23 minutes later (no joke, I timed), she was back and ready for us. I ordered a seafood pasta mix, and my friend ordered the ravioli. It only took 7 minutes for our soup to come out (clam chowder, good but not enough clams, waa-waa) and then another 11 minutes for the main dishes. My seafood linguine was ok, it had clams, scallops, prawns, but it tasted like it was missing something, but couldn't put my taste buds on it. My friend didn't enjoy her ravioli, but she's more a spaghetti and meatballs kinda gal.
We ordered sherbet to share and thank goodness we did, it was delicious! I kinda wished I got my own to enjoy all to myself.

But for those prices, I'm guessing maybe I should have gone with the prime rib, filet mignon, or just the plate of french fries like the hostess.

You know what... Plain and simple this place is elegant, clean, has great ambiance, a solid bar, excellent service, a  dance floor for the movers and shakers, plenty of parking and a HUGE KOI POND that my son LOVES!

I have eaten here about 5-6 times... I have "Never" had a bad experience with anything here and the food has "always" been top notch!

As a "cook" myself, I am pretty particular to where and what I eat... I give this place 5 stars because its a GREAT HIDDEN SECRET here in Santa Cruz County!  I highly recommed checking it out and I heard they have the 50% off Tuesdays again...

If you don't at best go check them out for that... 50% off Prime Rib? Shrimp Scampi? And all the other high end dishes at half off.. Somethings wrong with you in this day and economy...

    Peace...

I hear people talk about Severino's like it's this great place and I've never been impressed. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's a very mature crowd and caters to that demographic with an unimaginative menu and the bland food. The staff do a good job of being pleasant but they are clearly just going through the motions and sometimes I get the feeling that they are thinking "What are you doing HERE?" or "I think I'll try to asphyxiate myself on my next break."

There's a nice outdoor area with a koi pond and pleasant landscaping. Every time I've been here I've thought that it would be fun to come on a sunny afternoon and have cocktails and appetizers and sit in the sun. But waiting for the sun to come out in Aptos is a risky proposition!

There can be some good people watching in the bar, you can tell some of the regulars really like to have a good time... but the decor in there is horrific. It looks like someone is half-way through setting up a bridge tournament at a retirement home.

At least now you know where to take your grandparents!

The food is sub par, and I would not go back again.

Tried this place for Monday Night Football, and the burger was disappointing (like the kind of burger you get at a Best Western, which is what it is!).

Even the appetizers tasted like they came out of a frozen food box like you get at Costco.

Sorry, but this place is no Cafe Cruz!

This place is a mixed bag. Happy hour has chips and veggies with dips but tends to draw a mature crowd. If the weather is nice, opt for the back patio. Splurge for the half price apps and pass on the free chips. The dining room is slightly different. They do have affordable nightly specials but the food is similar to what you can get on the wharf. Nothing special. Since an assisted living facility is nearby the crowd tends to reflects that age group. They offer a prime rib special on Sundays and Mondays and tend to be busier those days. One Monday we came in for the prime rib special and was told they were sold out; keep in mind this was approx 6 pm and the dining room was half full. How do you run out of your special that you have EVERY week in less than an hour after you open?!?! Great for old people and large groups.

Found out about this hidden garden/coy pond through a few relatives staying in such a place.

The food I have had is not bad at all, the service seemed a little non professional, but what do you expect in a hotel restaraunt? The bartenders are attentive and fast working, I've watched them work a few times during the nights with the family. They are very fast paced, and Their Nightlife is quite amusing, and brings positive most needed vibes

Cant miss this place, its quite a scene and I have had some amazing times here, a must try!.

Eating in a Best Western just kind of weirds me out, well... unless you are staying there. But, I was however, happily surprised at the restaurant. After about a ten minute wait, our large group of 8 was seated next to the cute pond and garden area in the back. I ordered the Coconut Encrusted Prawns and was able to try the special of the day Halibut (served with philo dough).

I felt like the food was very tasty, but the location was just a bit odd. So was the singles bar scene. Not that I'm not a boozer, but 40 year old women shouldn't be in the bathroom talking about Patron shots and the hot bods on the dance floor :/

We were at the beach house for my mom's 60th birthday, and she picked Severino's Bar & Grill to celebrate the big one. It's situated in a Best Western, which made me nervous up front, but the locals had told us the food was good and it had a really cute Japanese garden with coy ponds and bridges.

We walked in, and the first thing we noticed was a sign that said "Singles - $10" and heard ACDC pouring out the door. I peeked in in excitement to see what all of the action was about. Folks were dancing alright, but these weren't spring chickens, and some of them even had a hitch in their get-along. Just as we were considering bolting, our hostess came out and led us to a quiet table in the back next to the garden.

Between the 8 of us, we must of covered most of the menu with our entree orders. From the surf to the turf, the filet mignon with blue cheese and bacon to the coconut encrusted prawns, the dishes were decent, but less than extraordinary, especially for the prices. Plus, our server forgot our waters and our bread and I found a hair in my salad. Ew.

After a couple of bottles of wine, that singles dance party was looking pretty good. So, we joined the cougars on the dance floor and lived it up like we had been doing shots of Patron all night along with the rest of the crowd. 60 years and my Mom's still poppin'! And you wonder where I got these dance moves...

My husband and I have been to Severino's twice with his mother and her husband.  They quite like the place and so do we.  I didn't find the prices to be terribly high, especially considering that the place appears to be rather hoity-toity.  My most recent meal there was a Sunday brunch in which my MIL and I had the crab eggs benedict and my husband and FIL had the prime rib.  The eggs benedict were DELICIOUS and the side of fruit I ordered was very sweet and fresh.  The prime rib appeared to be pretty thin and fatty, and my FIL said that he has had better.  Since we were there for my birthday, I got a free cheesecake for desert which tasted like orange zest and was very good.  All in all, I've enjoyed my meals there and wouldn't mind returning.

I agree with Mike's assessment of the place. It's kind of a place where you go with old people because of the safe, unobtrusive, American-Italian and seafood choices. I went here with my whole family for my grandma's 80th birthday and paid $19.99 for the blue-nose sea bass special. I'd say it was mediocre, somewhat bland. As for the service, the 15 year old kid who was our waitor interrupted my grandma's big "Words of Wisdom on Turning 80" speech. She was standing at the head of the table, telling us the secret to old age and talking about joining my grandpa in heaven and the kid comes up right behind her, breathing down her neck and waiting for her to finish to take away her plate.  We all kind of made motions for him to shoo away, but he just didn't get the hint until she turned around. I guess it shows his dedication to his waiterly duties...but come on, let the woman speak!

We dinner there last night in a party of seven - six adults and one child (8).  The food was unremarkable.  The service was not very attentive.  The prices were pretty high, considering the mediocre quality of the food and the service.

Actually, the only reason we go there at all is that my wife's aged parents live in a retirement home nearby and it's convenient.  Under normal circumstances, probably not a good choice.  I should follow my own advice and take them to another restaurant next time.
