Absolutely horrific service! Been here about 4 times because my sisters liked the variety of martinis to choose from. We all got fed up with the service though! Very inattentive and drinks come out very slowwwwly. All 4 visits they messed up on one or more drinks and the last time we all went we all ended up with $100+ charges on our cards for what should have been $10-$30 charges. They fixed it after a few calls but still was quite annoying. Won't be back for sure.
Review Source:We had high hopes when we saw this place opening. There aren't a lot of choices in Troutdale. We gave this place a couple opportunities to impress us, but they failed and we won't be returning.
Some of the drinks are tasty and the food was always good, but this gets severely overshadowed by their poor service. Their staff was rude and condescending and made for a very uncomfortable environment.
I'v seen some mixed reviews for this place on Yelp! There's not much to choose from in Snoutdale, so after a gorge hike last week I popped in for a drink.
I can't comment on the food as I didn't eat there. I also can't really comment on those sugary sweet appletini/cosmo/lemondrop-esque vodka concoctions that are so popular with college age women--although I do see that such concoctions are readily available. Finally, I can't comment on the night life either (I was there on a week day afternoon).
I can say this though: The place has a loose James Bond theme, so many of the martinis are named after various Bond actors and characters. I ordered the "Timothy Dalton", which is a "proper' martini (i.e., made with gin rather than 007's signature vodka). Bombay Sapphire. Shaken, not stirred (of course!). With a twist of lemon. And it was absolutely perfect. Cold, dry, piney, citrusy deliciousness. It may well have been the best martini I've ever had in a bar anywhere in the world. Yes. In Troutdale, Oregon. Go figure...
We were excited to check out this martini bar in Troutdale, but left disappointed.
We expected a nice comfortable lounge setting with retro furnishings and a laid back  cool James Bond atmosphere .
It looked more like a bistro, with tables, chairs and a really cheap uncomfortable  bench seating on one side of the room. It also had bad paint job on the walls .
Drinks were on the weak side, we ordered two small food items: flat bread with tomatos and feta cheese and an order of asparagus, it was really slow getting to the table.
They also need an exhaust fan or fresh air intake to remove food odors, I left with my clothes smelling like cooking!
Too bad ... good concept gone bad .
A friend and I wandered into this place on a whim. Â While being a martini lounge, they also serve beer. He had beer, I had a cocktail of course. Â The "pink pussy" to be exact. Â I only had this one drink and it was tasty, but they put some strange textured strawberry powder (nestle quick?) on the rim of the glass. Â It was odd and threw me off a bit. Â The drink was tasty enough that I would go back, but I sure do hope that they ditch that weird textured powder. Â It would also be great if they had a bar....it's all tables.
Review Source:The martini's are great, with a huge selection, and all your favorites and creative inventions are well represented. Â Been here a few times now, and the staff is always friendly and outgoing, the way it should be! Â It might not have the "portland" vibe of places like Bartini and some others, but that's not needed, it holds up just fine against other cocktail lounges I've visited, and when it all comes down to it, it's about the drinks and they get that right.
Review Source:I had really high hopes for this place and the atmosphere just killed it.
007 themed and you think there would be some red velvet, dim lighting, cool lounge chairs/sofas....something, anything. But alas there are only tables. Wooden tables with some cheesy decor. A peacock feather in some black sand and a random tea light candle.
For what it is, I'd much rather be somewhere in the Pearl paying the same prices and probably having a better drink.
I don't like to complain. This place is somewhat new. The drinks are only so-so however and seem to be lacking a bit of flavor from perhaps weak pours.
My Andes Mint drink was tasty. The Spicy Mango was not bad. It just felt odd sitting in this not-so-cozy bar sipping martini drinks.
My suggeston? Grab some antique furniture, red/burgandy decor, and maybe throw up a couple plasmas playing all the old Bond films? Did I miss something?
Hip place! Came here with my girlfriend and had the best bloody mary's ever! BUT...make sure Dave makes them! We sent 2nd Bloody Mary back because it wasn't nearly as good..somebody else made them this time (no pepper, missing that yum factor) So we asked to have the guy (Dave) who made them the first time do it again. They did it....with a smile! They care about there craft!!! We WILL be back. Thank you!
Review Source:Great service by Jamie. Good date spot. I went there with my friend, and it was a little too on the romantic side for just friends. Had the mango spicy martini-it had ice in it? It tasted a little like freezer burn, but I'm happy i gave it a whirl. Expected more of a lounge atmosphere, rather than a dim cafe...
Review Source:I completely agree with Andrew W. of Fairview. I was really excited to check out this martini bar (I still miss the Elbo Room in downtown Gresham). The menu is really massive and drink heavy. And the drinks are mediocre at best. My friend ordered a Manhattan and it was heavy on the marachino cherry juice (not part of the bourbon and sweet vermouth recipe). She sent it back and it still wasn't great. I had a Caramel Apple which had honey dripping down the sides of the glass. I was expecting caramel. The food choices are really limited, and they don't seem to know what some items are. Aside from the fact that we waited 30 minutes for our 2 food orders, and had to remind the waiter/bartender/cook that we had even ordered food, we ordered a "flatbread with parmesan and prosciutto" and got a grilled baguette sandwich with honey ham thin sliced lunchmeat.
With regard to the owner, Andrew W.'s experience is no surprise to me. This man was dressed in a wife beater with his cheesy tattoos hanging out, cursing really loudly, not seeming to be aware or care that there were customers in this tiny place. Unbelievable. Even got to hear him say to a woman at his table, "I know your a friend of an ex of mine, but I don't remember her name. What's your number?"
It didn't seem to us that this place was really interested in being successful. Maybe it's a front for something else. Put in a few poles and half-naked dancers and then the place would live up to expectations.
Don't waste your time or money here. You can get good martinis elsewhere!
I dig this place because you take what you can get in Troutdale and I like Martinis. Â Prices are average to above average for drinks. Â A bonus is you can have kids here until 4pm. Â There menu is very small, but there sandwiches are decent. Â If you like Martinis, and wanna have a drink but have your kids with you, check it out.
Review Source:This review is strictly my opinion and my observation of my first visit to The Shaken Martini.
The atmosphere was and still is confusing to me. No Bar Stools, No Booths only tables. Most Martini bars I have been to have a cozy feeling, low lit lights and booths so you can have a intimate dining experience with friend/family/loved one.
Ask yourself when you think James Bond and Martinis what do you envision? Tuxedos, fast cars and sexy woman? Possible some baccarat? He He Joking. Back to the point.
The menu this place has must have cost a fortune to put together. It is vast and has many options. If I paid you to read each page top to bottom it would take you 30 minutes +. Customers do like selections but your goal should be a fun semi fast dining experience.
The Double O was the strongest drink I ordered the others Oatmeal Honey was tasty but very weak on the alcohol content. And for 8 to 9 bucks a pop I would expect a little more punch per sip.
As for the Food, we are talking a 30 drink to 1 food item ratio, I'm dead serious and would you believe no hamburger? What so called Bar does not offer a freaking hamburger or some type of deep fried food. If this place is going for a more healthy options then how about 3 pages of food items? You already have 100 different drinks on the menu, do we really need them all?
Your service is sub par at best and you require a floor manager of some type. NOOO the bartender can not be a floor manager he is in charge of the bar. Somebody who wile on shift can coach and train your servers. What type of server training do you offer? I'm going to bet you offer zip, zero, nada.
As for the owner or whoever was playing on his laptop maybe next time he is upset that Payroll for the week is 7000 and sales is 4000 he can keep the figures to himself. I honestly felt obligated to tip more because you guys are struggling.
Time for change kids, just because the bank said you can have a loan does not mean you know what you are doing. Because if you did, payroll would not be 7000 for the week. This is why I give you 2 stars. Poor food selection, way to many drinks on the menu, and the service was awful. I'm glad my server put in his two week notice he is smart. And when a server tells a customer he is leaving does this not reflect on your establishment? Who is doing the hiring around here? What type of interview questions do you even ask? Â I'm done I could go on and on and on.
Not what I was hoping for.
My first martini, the "00" had ZERO flavor. May as well have been drinking water. Â My second, the "M" was so spicy that I couldn't finish it and it killed my tastebuds. Â Yes, the menu says it's spicy (which I like), but this was out of control. Â
The food choices are unimpressive. I had a grilled cheese with tomato - nothing to write home about, but the accompanying tomato basil soup was quite tasty. Â
The menu and the sign over the bar are all about James Bond, but nothing else seems to be. Â The artwork doesn't fit and there is absolutely NO atmosphere here. Â I liked the background music, but it's so low that you have to strain to hear it. Â There has to be a happy medium between "inaudible" and "blast your eardrums."
We went here are part of the soft opening, two days after they opened their doors and a few days before the grand opening.
It's a nice space, lot's of light (which I guess can be good or bad, depending on what you want out of a bar). I like that there are no bar stools at the bar, so when it's crowded you can still get a drink ordered.
They have a dizzying array of drinks on their menu. The James Bond theme is fun, with drinks of all the Bonds and the Bond girls. There are some interesting cocktail mixes, as well as some scary ones (there is an entire page of red bull martinis). I had the Vesper because ever since seeing Casino Royale I've wanted to try it. It was bold and good. I also tried to order the M (cause who doesn't love M) which, according to the menu is essentially a more fancy bloody maria. The waitress asked me if I wanted gin or vodka. (it was listed as a tequila drink). I thought that was a sign the universe wants me to stay off the tequila so I said vodka. She brought me a dirty martini. Fair enough, it's my go-to drink. I still want to try the M though....universe be damned!
We had the spinach salad with chicken and the grilled cheese with fig jam and prosciutto. It was the perfect combination of sweet and salty. The food menu is small but what we tried was good.
We liked the James Bond theme. Clearly a fan put together the menu. Lots of Bond fun facts. We thought it would have been cool if instead of the 70s pop music they would have played Bond theme songs!
I really appreciate having a place in Troutdale where we can get some good martinis. I'm excited they are here (and have been waiting for months for them to open).
I'm giving three stars because with my experience it seemed clear that they were finding their way as a team and as a new bar in town; still working the kinks out. I'll go back because I want to support local business, and I like booze!!!
I did a double take when I saw the sign! Â Did I read that right? Martini bar, here in East County! Â
Brand spanking new at this location. The owner informed us that he is no longer in Portland. We spoke to him and he told us that he just hung his sign here 2 days ago!!!
The decor is red and black basically with some nice warm amber drop lights, wood floors. Â
We ordered ourselves a small bite. That's all the menu really has anyway. Lots of different cheese choices basically. Â We got the grilled cheese with fig jam on olive bread, hold the prosciutto. Â We also got a cup of his tomato/basil soup. Â We enjoyed the sandwich, between the fig jam's sweetness, to the cheesy cheese flavor, ending with the oliveness of the bread. Â The tomato basil soup was really rich and creamy. Â The prices are also very reasonable.
The theme of the place, by the menus, is 007/James Bond. Â All the martinis are basically related to the different movies/women that were in them.
The owner said it's a shame that folks don't realize how much Bond really did influence the American culture. Â I thought this through while I drank one of their concoctions, the cool cucumber martini. And it was quite fetching to say the least. Â
He informed us that he used to own Bartinis so that would explain all the different martinis on the menu. Â He also used to own Jazz de Opus back in the day so he's been in the business for quite some time.
On Thursdays soon he will start showing one of the 22 movies that he owns of the Bond series. Â Looking forward to drinking a martini with Bond.
