In a seedy area of Wtby. but ample parking although tight.  The renovation that they did is very impressive, Irish  pub motif but with a modern flair.  A large dining with a long bar area.  The food that we ordered was very good, the boneless chicken wings were a bit dry and in cubes which was odd.  The buffalo flavoring was good, but the jerk sauce tasted nothing like jerk, more like ketchup ....which was odd!  Great cobb salad, tasty and filling, the steak wrap that my friend ordered was enjoyed as well, savory, although on the  small side, also a large beer selection is available on tap.  Would recommend for a quick bite.
Review Source:previously the crossroad cantina. Â the change in establishment is definitely an upgrade. Â but recent visits here on band nights have turned out to be disappointments with no live music. Â they have a great beer on tap selection and equally as good bar menu. Â great space for large group gatherings. Â the shephard's pie is a hit or miss. Â the sandwiches/wraps all looked amazing. Â one brave soul had the fish and chips which were not over cooked.
Review Source:Our first visit here last night. Â We were excited to try this place out since it is local for us, and a good friend of mine has raved about it. Â Our experience was "mixed", here's the good & the bad of last night...
First, I've been in this building a few times before, when it was Crossroads Cantina, then Rosie's. Â I have to admit, the decor has been vastly improved. Â Our only "beef" with the environment was the climate -- place felt cold, I recommend you bring a sweater or layer yourself to keep warm (it is a large, open place with an extremely high ceiling, so I imagine the heating bill would be considerable if they turned the heat up too much).
On to the food -- I've heard a lot about Shamrock's wings, so we ordered 6 of the sweet bbq for our appetizer. Â Not the best wings I've ever had, but they were decent tasting and good. Â They had a crispy taste to them. Â My gf had also had the French Onion soup, she thought it was excellent.
I had the Ruben (corn beef) sandwich, my gf order the Pub Steak sandwich (w/o peppers) -- I felt mine was excellent, she thought hers was OK. Â My gf wanted some dessert to go, so she ordered a piece of cake (I forget what kind). Â Honestly it didn't matter what kind of cake it was, for 7 bucks, the thing was a bad joke -- if it was one inch thick, I'd be surprised. Â
Also, our waitress was "all business", not very friendly.
So like I said above, our experience at The Shamrock in Waterbury was "mixed". Â But we do intent to go back, I feel this place has the potential to be one of my favorites. Â Maybe we just caught them on an off night.
Our 1st time to The Shamrock and we will be back. We went on Valentine's day and were seated right away, our server was awesome my wife was undecided on her choice and she (don't remember her name) was very helpful on choices.
Drinks - they had a decent selection of beer, I went with Widmer bros. Pitch Black IPA and at $4.75 that was a bargain.
Appetizer - we had wings and chose the "Red and Blue", the meaty crispy wings were tossed in a buffalo sauce with bleau cheese crumbles, Â and served with good bleau cheese dressing.
The food - I went with a bacon bbq burger it was a great burger cooked perfectly, served with fries which if they weren't handcut were the best frozen fries I ever had.
Excellent corned beef and cabbage! I had the southwest chicken wrap, also very good. A gentleman came by twice to see how everything was and seemed pleased that we were there-that's how it should be done. Decent draft beer selection for CT- had Sierra Nevada torpedo ipa on tap when I was there dec 11. Four stars because it was so loud in the dinner room, but all the food served to our table was worth going back to have again!
Review Source:Outstanding new spot to grab a beer and watch the games on the corner of Field and Meadow just under Rt 84 east of Route 8! Â Nice beer menu. Â Went with 4 people for lunch. Â We had the Chef's salad (Awesome and huge!) Irish Pizza (like a Reuben), Corned Beef Potato Fritters (Tremendous!) Portobelo Burger (Burger with Portobello and stuff) and Turkey BLT wrap. Â This spot has a great open floor plan, lots of tables and seating, a nice stage for entertainment, games, monstrous menus, large bar and more TV's than you could ever watch at once. If you can't enjoy a game with friends here, turn in your man card, choke down a bottle of Midol and go shopping for shoes and matching bags. Â This is a great new spot in downtown waterbury just across Field St from the parking garage so there's no excuse to pass it up.
