I do ever so enjoy coming to this place, the great food, yummy booze and attentive staff and the awkward entertainment that's provided by the patrons, and wanna-be-club kids.
And mind you, I try not to judge and alls I want is a good time, but last night was just plain hilarious.
To make a long story short, shitty 90's remix club songs, with a dash of woman that dance like they haven't been out of the house since their 5th child :-D
But seriously, I do love the fact it's a sweet combo of restaurant, bar and club. And each section is separate from  what i just described. Anyone caught after 10pm in the dance hall, beware of the dancing girls!
It's a fun place, needs better music though, but I will totally be going back. Since I can't go to the Central Park club cuz everyone and their grandmother goes there.....literally.
Oh! Also! They hav a lot of events happening there, I plan to go to their craft beer tasting party.
I've been here a few times and while it seemed like a pretty solid place at first, I kind of feel like it's lost the initial appeal that would've warranted a 5-star review. The initial appeal being that it is a very beautifully decorated restaurant.
The food is okay - not bad, not good. The burgers are decent, actually. I've tried stuff off a couple of different sections of the menu and each time I wasn't really wow'd. Honestly, I really wasn't a fan of their Bangers 'n Mash. The sausages reminded me of breakfast sausage links. Not what you'd expect for the price.
The service is hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get a great server and/or hostess and sometimes not.
I decided to try one of their signature drinks when I was last there - a Red Velvet Cake Martini. I was definitely not a fan. It was kind of a weird, overpowering taste. It was way, way sweet and strong on alcohol at the same time. I gave it to my fiance to finish and even he had to push through it.
When I moved to the area a few years ago, I used to come here to watch the Jets games on Sundays. Honestly, I still think it's a good spot for that. The sliders aren't bad, they have wings and the beer is cold. I'm just going to find another spot for good drinks and dinner.
The Rose never disappoints.. The food is pretty good however what I like best about  the place is that there is a bar upstairs if you are looking to focus your attention on a date or person and can't really be bothered with the music or band.. But if you are looking for the that weekend wine down bar they have that atmosphere for you too.. The staff is great and very attentive! Drinks and food is great and reasonably priced!
Review Source:This place is not just a great Woodbridge bar, but I'd put it up against other nearby towns, even. Fanastic space, great night crowd, good selection of beers, one-of-a-kind modern, yet very Irish atmosphere, and great burgers!
Service is great, bartenders are great, and the menu has something for everyone. Some Irish dishes, but mostly American style food. And believe it or not, their penne vodka is pretty good. I know, random, but true.
If you want to go for dinner, get out of there by 9, it starts becoming a bar after that.
If you want to go for some nighttime shenanigans, get there after 10, when it picks up. Dress nicely, the girls are beautiful, and you're just one of many looking at them. Bring your A game.
I went here a few months ago because of a living social deal and it still stands out in my mind. Â Very quite at the time but a very large establishment so I can see them getting quite busy. Â Large food portions as well as knowledgeable and attentive staff make this place great. Â I can easily see myself coming back here again. Â Keep up the good work guys!
Review Source:After surveying storm damage for most of the day, my colleague and I were quite famished. Not knowing anything about availability in the area, or even what in the area is open, we turned to yelp. And, as always, yelp came through.
Shannon Rose rocks! Many reviewers have complimented the decor, and like them we were quite impressed. High ceilings, warm colors, and just the right touch of Irish flair without being too kitchy. (is that a word??)
Looking at the menu, I was torn. My norm is to order fish & chips on my first visit to an Irish pub. But I had noticed a couple of reviewers complimented the bangers & mash, so I was leaning in that direction. Then my colleague saw the "Murder Burger": cooked to order beef patty with American and Pepper Jack cheese, sauteed onions, jalapeños, ketchup and thousand island dressing - assembled, then lightly breaded and deep fried. Now I'm really torn. So I did what any good patron would do - I asked our server what she recommends and she heartily recommended I try the burger. And I am so glad I did. She also recommended we try the Dublin fries - french fries with sea salt, bacon, and ranch dressing. In a word: outstanding.
Expecting a "knife and fork" burger I was pleasantly surprised when it came out, exactly as described. Paired with about 8 onion rings I was in carnivore heaven. I traded half of the burger for a piece of my colleague's fish, and we agreed that The Shannon Rose is truly top drawer.
As we were there for lunch we did not partake of the extensive list of specialty cocktails. However, I did have a black & tan and she had the pumpkin ale with a dash of cinnamon - we were in an Irish Pub, after all.
The Shannon Rose truly earned this five-star rating. I hope to have the chance to return someday.
We came here on Sunday for a late lunch. My bf had the pull pork sandwich with sweet potato fries, and I had the seafood pie from the irsh menu. My bf loved his sandwich so much that he didnt even leave me a bit to try!!! I enjoyed my seafood alot as well, the puff pastry top was baked perfect, and "stuffing" underneath was burst with flavor. There were so many shrimps and fish cubes etc, and they were all cooked perfect (hate overcook seafood) in the lobster cream sauce. It also comes with a piece of irish soda bread, which is so fresh and delicious. We were very happy with our meal and will def come back again.
Review Source:Won't be going back here...ever. Â I came to SR for a friend's birthday party...I had heard good things about it so I was excited. Â Ended up leaving very disappointed :( Â
Our plan was to go for a late dinner and stay for the bar. Â After an epic wait for a table for 6, our waitress literally took 15 min to greet us. Â She was really rude and honestly looked like she didn't want to be there. Â She got our drink orders totally wrong and took forever to even let us order our food. Â I love pub food and I had to try the burger...figured you can't go wrong with that at an Irish pub but I stand corrected. Â The burger was barely cooked - it was actually cool in the center. Â I asked for medium well....FAIL. Â She never checked back with us so I had to flag down another waitress to tell her to come back...at that point I had totally lost my appetite so I didn't even bother ordering something else. Â
After dinner, the place turns into a nightclub? Â I don't know if you would call it that or what. Â The music was terrible...so loud and heard the same songs. Â They definitely pack the place..there was even a line outside....for what I don't know it wasn't anything special. Â I started a tab at the bar against by better judgement. Â Turned out some other bartender was adding someone else's drinks to my tab and it was an absolute nightmare to have it adjusted. Check your checks. Â The bartenders were also kind of inattentive and rude. Â The bartender had also misplaced my credit card so I don't recommend opening a bar tab there...stick with cash so you can keep track yourself.
SR also attracts some riff-raff...definitely some unsavory characters in there. Â On our way out my boyfriend and I were held up in their parking lot. Â They took his wallet and my purse....both were later found empty in a 7-11 in Rahway the next day. Â
This place is not worth any of the hype and the fact that we were robbed in their parking lot says a lot. Â Avoid.
I have been to the Shannon Rose a few times for dinner and I have had nothing less of an excellent experience here. From the outside I didn't think it was too big, but it is a whole new world once you enter. The white sangria is my absolute favorite. I highly suggest the spinach artichoke dip, which was phenomenal. If you are in the neighborhood this hidden gem is definitely worth checking out.
Review Source:Looking for greasy fried fish, amateur service, mediocre live music? Â Then this is the place for you! Â This place is huge, probably much bigger than it needs to be. Â The food is just ok- but will do if you're in a bind and need a beer to chug down with dinner. Â The french fries were excellent, but the sweet potatoes were gross. Â Stay away from those for sure. Â Also had the burger with the fried egg- burger was done nicely enough and I'd suggest asking for the brioche roll instead of the english muffin.
Review Source:The Shannon Rose has some really great decor and detail to the fixtures and design of the place. Huge ceilings, bookcases with crown moldings, the bar is extensive and loops into two different rooms, it's all pretty impressive. I don't like how it's soooo dimmly lit, but I guess for a bar it is what it is. The food is just okay, I've tried a chicken wrap and the irish meatloaf, and the irish beef stew with soda bread. I would say it's around average irish pub fare, and the service could definitely be better.
The bar itself is the real main attraction here, so restaurant goers you've been warned. Also, not great for watching sports, the TV's are too few, too small, and not doing for me.
I love coming here. I like the atomosphere, the beer selection, the staff, the Irish music on Sundays, and the prices are reasonable.
I visit often, but typically for a couple drinks. Always during the day or early evening/dinner time hours. I have not experienced their late night club-ish persona.
To be perfectly honest, I have yet to find anything on their menu that makes me want to go. Â Portions are good, prices are fair, selection is more than generous. However, it's still fried, grilled-then-fried, deep-fried, pre-fab pub food.
To be fair, I do appreciate the fact that their menu does not go on for pages and pages and pages. Â To me, if you dabble in everything, you cannot be good at anything. Â So...kudos to the Shannon Rose for keeping true to who they are and want to be. Â I am just looking forward to the day there is something on there that I literally cannot live without.
With that said...it's the best draft Miller Lite for miles...See you there.
A corporate step away from what you would expect at Fridays or Tuesdays or Applebees. It reminds me of a larger version of Old Bay in New Brunswick. It's really dark in the lower level there, especially with mostly closed curtains and blocked windows. Depending on the time you go, the ambiance is closer to being a pub or club. But the upper level is lighted better, and has significantly more tables. That would be more of the family section. The food is  mostly pub style as you would imagine. Nothing fancy or elaborate in the preparations. Import draft and craft beer selection decent as compared to chain restaurants. I had the Balsamic Chicken Wrap with sweet potato fries. It was tasty and fresh.
Kind of gimmicky place though. Wednesday night is country music night and the waitresses wear cowboy hats and flannel. And the dance floor/performance room is a bonus. In the local area 20 minutes drive, there aren't a whole lot of other choices in terms of nightclub/bars, if that's a selling point. In comparison, J.J. Bittings is a straight up pub, Fox & Hounds is a straight up club, the Crossroads is a bar with a stage. So Shannon Rose is somewhere in between all 3, literally.
But double check all the items you order and match it to whatever pricing should be. At the time, the waitress offered $3 domestic beers but I was charged random prices on each, between $2.80 and $4.67...including tax. It should have been $6.42 with tax not $7.47. Minor difference but it means they make weird mistakes.
DJ Roberto Carlos brings the heat.
Lemme get that out of the way...Thursday nights in October feel like the summer time...the bartenders are awesome and the patrons aren't douchey like most places.
This place is HUGE...so if you just wanna eat or just wanna dance or just wanna watch the game, there's a place for you somewhere.
No cover either!
And the bouncers don't suck...just no hats or boots and you're good.
Every time I come here I sit with this face on :o/
This place reminds me of the Blackthorn establishments. Â The other patrons seem to be the early twenties crowd. Â That's cool. Â I will admit I have never eaten the food that I can remember. Â Every time I go I try to remind myself to try one of the apps or something but always get caught up with the beer. Â They have a really decent beer menu. Â Harpoon, Kaliber, a Chocolate Stout... Needless to say I enjoy myself wit all dat! Â When I go out drinking I always end up spending dough. Â But if you stay close to the drafts you might get away with a tab on the cheaper side.
Live music does it for me. Â Why not go out and support local artists? Â I am all about NJ period! Â When things happen here I get a kick out of telling people about it. Â So yea, I will give SR that. Â DJ's will forever be scrutinized by me. Â I have like THE quirkiest taste in music. Â So for me to go out and listen to someone spin all night and have a killer time they gotta be really good. Â I'd rather take my chances on live music. Â Chances are the bands will cover s few popular songs to get the crowd going too. Â I prefer Shannon Rose to Blackthorn but neither one really do it for me.
So I will give this place 3 stars because my first experience was 4 and the second a 1!
First time...
Went with some coworkers for a drink and some apps. Nice place, decent food, the usual wings, nachos that kind of thing. Waitress was patient with us even though we were a big annoying group. Not a bad place.
Second time...
This time I came for the night life. Some friends wanted to go because they have live music. Fellow yelper Lindsey R. and I arrived first and were able to snag a long table up front. Our group got a bit large, friends, friends of friends etc. We were all having a good time in our own little area. The stars started dropping when we left our post. First I must say that the place was beyond crowded and beyond loud. The line for the bathroom was so long there was a girl peeing in the sink!!! Nice. We then made our way over to the band area where we were swarmed by sharks as if one of us was bleeding. We were getting chatted up like no tomorrow. I completely ignored the one dude in my ear. He then told me to go F**K myself, smacked my ass and walked away. So basically Shannon Rose after 11pm is full of juicy douche bags pushing 40 who are trolling for young girls with low self-esteem.
One plus from the night though was a friend of a friend who I was meeting for the first time and I got to chatting, he was looking to a buy a house, couple of months later I sold him one. Hollaaa
The food is consistently good... the wings, Irish spring rolls, and fish and chips have all been winners. Â I havent had the guts to try the "Murder Burger" yet, which is covered in batter and deep fried, but it sounds interesting.
Most of the bartenders and wait staff are very knowledgable especially about some of their more obscure beer selections. Â Speaking of beer, they always have some excellent choices on tap.
This place does get rather "night club-by" after 9pm, so if that is not the scene you are looking for be aware. Â However there is a ton of seating, and four different bar areas so you will never wait too long for a drink. Â Shannon Rose is defintiely a great place for medium-large group get togethers.
I am absolutely OBSESSED with this place, I should own part of it. Staff is real nice, it's classy in the way it looks and the type of crowd it attracts. The food is awesome (just don't get the bar pie), drinks decent (they have tons of diff beers) and there's always a crowd unless you go on some obscure night before christmas or something. Fridays are the best, with a DJ all night. Saturdays are ok if you're into the whole live- band-that's-far-from-original-and-only-does-covers thing. Dress up or down, don't matter.
Tip: Sign up for their email on their site, they send you a calendar every month so you always know what DJs/bands/events will be happening ahead of time.
P.S. DJ Roberto Carlos & Ken Mojo are amazing - you wanna be there the nights they're there.
This is the lowest rating I've ever given a place. Â I understand many people have had positive experiences; however our particular experience was so bad I feel it should be noted. Â Here's why I gave this place only one star:
THE FOOD:
Having frequented many an Irish Pub in my time, I'm a big fan of a good Burger in a muffin. Â It was not bad. Â There was definitely potential. Â Both of our orders however were not prepared how we ordered them. Â I wanted my burger well done and it was absolutely NOT well. Â It was Medium at BEST. Â The other burger was ordered Medium and was so raw that it was actually cool in the center.
THE SERVICE:
If you read through other reviews, you can tell this place is big. Â It is! Â It's spacious and with plenty of seating and a wide bar area. Â It also seemed pretty fully staffed which makes the case for poor service that much harder to contend with. Â Our waitress was awful!
Now, I've been around plenty of wait staff and have been a waiter myself so I take my judgement very seriously. Â I don't know if this girl was new, or just didn't really understand what being a good waitress means. Â She was very distracted at all times which doesn't make sense since we seemed to be her only table. Â I could see her hanging out by the bar texting on her phone. Â
When we were ordering she would actually look off to the side then look back at us with a questioning look as if she had no idea what we were doing in front of her. Â It's no wonder that our orders were not cooked right. Â
After we finished our food, we wanted to let her know that she got our orders wrong and that the food was not cooked right. Â She looked extremely puzzled then said "but you ate most of it." Â There was never an apology. Â She then asked if we wanted the food comped which we did NOT. Â We just wanted her to know not to mess up. Â She brought our check with half of our food discounted and she practically threw the check at us and walked away. Â We payed for the whole check anyway because we did not want a free meal.
THE MANAGEMENT:
We then left our table and waited by the host for a manager. Â When he finally showed up he was most unwelcoming. Â We told him about our experience and all he could say was "Hey man, you got your burger comped. Â That's all we can do." Â Nobody ever once apologized nor did he realize that we payed for the whole check (plus a full tip on the whole price.) Â He also kept walking us toward the door. Â We were practically kicked out. Â
We will never eat there again.
Love it ! Â Every meal I've had there has been great. Â The servers and staff are fantastic, and even the managers stop by the table once in a while to check up on things.
The beer is always ice cold, and the bartenders are not a afraid to pour even the top shelf liquor with a heavy hand ;)
St. Practice Day is a blast ! Â Love those bagpipes !!
I cannot say enough good things about this place.
The food is delicious no matter what you order. Â I personally think the cheeseburger sliders are the best anywhere!!
I recently tried the provo burger which Is a fried chunk of provolone with a nice charcoal burger on and English muffin!!!! Omg!!!! Delicious!!!!!
The bangers and mash is also an excellent choice
Want a hunk of delicious buttery meat go for the prime rib which is just $15.95 on Sunday for 9 oz with mash potatoes and a side.
They have a variety of beers on tap including craft beers-and they have harp!!!!! Slainte!!!!!
The atmosphere is very pleasant and yes don't hesitate to bring your family here including children-the place is huge and they do an excellent job of separating families from the "bar scene" crowd-so everyone is comfortable.
Check out their website for specials, happy hour, and special events. They frequently change up themes and have trivia nights and karaoke.
During the summer they do pig roasts, and luaus and have a fist pumping night.
I'm so happy I don't have to go far to go to a great Irish pub!!!!
The minute you walk in you feel like your in a genuine Irish pub straight from Ireland!!!
Highly recommended-please let me know what you think.
Impressive atmosphere and a true Irish Pub at that!
Extremely friendly service: very helpful and gave plenty of personable suggestions. Received complimentary soda bread for it being our first time - cool!
Great beer/wine/drink selection.
Large menu. My balsamic chicken and portobella wrap was alright, but the fries were yummy. Heard other food there is delicious.
I would definitely go back. And I'd love to check out the late night scene.
I came here with my wife for the first time. Â We ordered the french onion soup, Sheppard's pie and the Shannon rose burger.
The soup was OK. A little on the sweet side with big onions. I would have liked the onions cut smaller. The meat in the Sheppard's pie was a little dry and under seasoned, but I really liked the Shannon Rose burger. I ordered it medium and it came out juicy and full of flavor on an english muffin. I ordered it with bacon and cheese. The cheese was melted perfect.
This place is huge, with very nice ambiance and good music. The service is also very attentive. I'd come back for the Shannon burger.
I'm right in between 3 and 4 stars, so I'll round up. 3.5 stars
3.5 Stars
St. Patty's Day 2011. I'm always skeptical about NJ spots, especially bars since I'm not much of a bar person. The line was really long but moved rather quickly. No cover which I was surprised about. No drink specials - also came as a surprise. $4 for miller lites - not bad. One female bartender kept ignoring us and serving other people. She clearly saw us as we were standing in front of her. I don't think I come off as a rude or pushy customer. I just wait until the bartender makes eye contact  and gives me the sign they saw me and they'll get to me shortly. Once I saw how she was treating us, I definitely got irritated. Listen chick, you aren't that hot so don't blow off female customers that you think are competition. It's not that serious.
Anyway, the other bartender was nicer. The place was bigger than I had pictured and the DJ was amazing that night. There's an upstairs as well. I liked how there were several bars and each room/section was different (1 typical bar area, 1 area to hang out, and a small dance floor area). The crowd was a mix of hit and misses, but still not bad for Jersey.
Went for lunch; wasn't super impressed by their french onion soup. The crouton wasn't crispy, the cheese wasn't browned, and the onions were cut SUPER big, so it was hard to get onto a spoon.
I really like the crispy chicken salad; great chopped salad. Could have used less onions, but otherwise was very good.
I have to say I love going to the Shannon Rose. Â
Some of the food is exceptional, such as the Irish stew, corned beef spring rolls, and often their specials. Â The rest of the food is just good as you'd expect.
The service is always great, both at the tables and at the bar. Â At the bar, it feels like they want to be your favorite bartender, no matter who is helping you. Â The drink selection is excellent, especially the variety of beers (my favorite is the Shannon Rose Amber Ale).
The decor is great, maybe a little overdone, but who would complain about that? Â The only complaint I have is the noise. Â It's never quiet and the acoustics make any noise redound and echo so you always have to talk over a jangly background. Â
All in all though it's a great place to go for eating or meeting.
Great for happy hour; prices and selection are great as well as all the staples of bar foods - sliders, wings, fries, etc.
Came here once for lunch and was a bit disappointed by the small and flavorless burger I ordered for $11. Nice, frozen patty chucked onto the grill or grilltop. It was a lifeless meal.
Service was great and attentive and the food came out piping hot.
Checked out The Shannon Rose right after work yesterday during happy hour. Â Place is huge, several bars, really busy even before 5:30pm. Â By 7pm it was jammed. Â I didn't stay long but live music was scheduled to happen later in the evening. Â
Drink special = $2 off anything. Â Pretty cool. Â Our bartender was very sweet and attentive to our needs, even when it got really crowded and busy. Â
I didn't try any food or apps...next time. Â Parking isn't the best of situations (remember, you're in a World-Class Shop Rite parking lot).
American Irish super pub with modern look and lively atmosphere. Pretty good conventional 'irish" food but the pints of Guinness are always on point, plenty of whiskeys behind the bar, and the live bands are good.
The fish and chips were tasty, the fries come Belgian style in a newspaper cone. The slider options are good, corn beef was best. Do not get the "heart attack" it is a burger with chedder cheese on a bun, with all toppings that is then fully deep fried, tomatoes, lettuce and all. i took 3 bites and couldnt eat anymore so I went back to my guiness which made me forget about the lost meal.
Shannon Rose is worth the visit but skip the heart attack.
Alright, so if your from Union or Middlesex County NJ, chances are you know the Shannon Rose by now. If not, check it out.
I must admit, I have not gone for the food. So for anyone looking for a review in that area, sorry.
I have been here a handful of times so far and I have been impressed with the crowd each time. What is key, is that I have yet to see the typical Jersey shore bar crowd that normally takes over places like this and ruins them. The Shannon Rose features 4 different bars, each with a slightly different feel oddly enough. My personal favorites are the upstairs bar, and the one next to the band/dj. The few times I have gone, both of these offered the best crowd and atmosphere. What is also a plus, is that you can open a tab at one bar, and go to the other three with your temporary receipt and the bartenders can add to it. They have a pretty large selection of specials that rotate each week/month and a good lineup of bands/DJ's.
There are plenty of tables to sit and socialize if your coming with a date, or a group. The ceilings are very high, the atmosphere is great, and it feels like an larger version of the standard Irish pub.
I would recommend the Shannon Rose for anyone looking to go out with a few friends and have a couple of drinks. I will say the mixed drinks were a little weak, so I would stick to the beer. That's just me.
Basically,
1) Local
2) Good crowd
3) No cover
4) Moderate priced drinks
5) Entertainment
Hope the review helped, and maybe I will see you there.
