i been in here 4 times and im up in the air about this spot. the first time i tried to come here i was turned away because i had a white t and the bouncer said they had a dress code but i saw another customer with a white the bouncer told me he was in there before there dress code hours start i took it for what it was and didn't take personal. i didn't come back till a few months later i live a block away for figured why not this came i made it in. Â this bar is 99.99 percent all black customers doesn't matter to me but maybe that's why the regulars where looking at me a little funny im a 6 feet mexican with shaved head and i have lots of tattoos i look "thuggish" but im anything but that. so i was trying to play some pool but everyone was who was playing pool had there games going and i asked a table if anyone had next and the gentlemen where a little stand offish so i played a few solo games and left the bartender was really cool tho. a few weeks later stopped in again earlier in the afternoon and got a lot of games in with a older cat he was really cool and the environment seemed more welcoming stayed a little longer playing with the older gentlemen and again bartender where really cool.
the next time i came in wasn't feeling the vibe at all there where some younger guys in there and just felt like i had eyes on my so i had one beer and one game and left.
few weeks later i had some time to kill and went in again and no one as really playing pool but i asked a lady who was watching me play if she wanted to play and she did join me we played a few games and the vibe was different again everyone was laid back and chill cracked a few joke with other customers who seemed more friendly, im a outgoing person so if someone looks friendly ill say hello and strike a convo.
the bartenders are always cool here and make good drinks i like that its so close to me and all in all a cool spot with thoes two exceptions
I agree with Heidi the owner Keno is one fine speciman of a man and the drinks are good too. Â They have an awesome new taco Tuesday and unlike the more popular el torito you don't have to enter through the black door oops I meant back door. Â No 2011 Jim crow laws here just fun laid back locals of all nationalities looking for stiff drinks from everyone's favorite bartender Moe and old school and west coast jams on the juke box.
Review Source:shotz is a very cool, down to earth place to come and get your drink on, play pool or hang with the pretty ladies!
im the newest addition to the shotz bar family, come see me every friday for what we call "lingerie fridays", thats right- we bartend in sexy lingerie! catch me there from 4-9p.m. i look forward to meeting all of you, come have a shot or 2!
I'm at this place at least once a week. I LOVE SHOTZ!
I consider myself in the know, in the scene, and typically a club snob. I don't go many mainstream places throughout the city because I hate what I call the "C" crowd.
So you might be surprised to know that I am addicted to this off the beaten path place, that I lovingly refer to as "Keno's" or "The Spot."
It's easy to get here: just south of the 105 on the 710, exit Alondra east. Go past Home Depot and Dominguez's football field. When you see El Pollo Loco, turn right on Orange. When you see the 76 station on the left, turn into the strip mall. Shotz is in the back corner. There is ample parking but this place gets PACKED.
The decor is upscale sports bar. Dress is casual but no white tees. There are 3 pool tables, which are in use most of the night. Many people who play here are pros; they bring their own cue sticks and get down on the felt. I'm not sure how much games are but I know they are less than $1 per game in quarters.
The atmosphere is FRIENDLY, LOCAL, and it's LIKE FAMILY!!
They have an amazing touch screen jukebox that carries all the jams, including today's hot hits. Normally it is playing unless it is a special occasion (you can host your party here!), when they have a DJ. The bar is long and L shaped with a few touch screen game consoles. They have a fully stocked bar and the BEST BARTENDERS ever!! Most have been working here for years and they shoot straight from the hip. They will be your friend by the end of the night. Keep coming back and they will know your drink before you order it. Drinks tend to be stiff and run around $3 (bottled beers) to $6 (call liquor). They have pretty much anything you are looking for, including a few specialty drinks. Warning: CASH ONLY. There is an ATM at the 76 Station, but it closes at midnight.
The owner, Keno Jackson, is one fine specimen of a man who will greet everyone in the room and make you feel at home. Come here enough and you will know most people around in a short time. I was introduced to this place by an old friend of Keno's and after being here just once, I kept coming back as much as possible. Yes, I make the trek all the way from West LA!
Smoking is allowed in front or in the small back area. They also have a BBQ so you can expect there to be food here more times than not.
The bathrooms are single stall. While I haven't perused the men's room, the women's is always clean and well stocked with tissue, soap and paper towels. There's also a solid lock so there's no embarrassing walk ins.
When the turnout calls for it, they have a back room that they open up for dancing. No drinks are allowed back here but it fills up quickly!
There are multiple TVs including a GIANT screen visible from anywhere. Sports is constantly playing...Laker games, UCLA, NFL, you name it. And they will happily put on what you ask for!
The crowd here is local (Long Beach/Compton/Paramount) and friendly! Average age is well over 30. Expect to make lifetime homies here quickly. Most people come here often so they know each other. Most importantly, it's DRAMA FREE. There tend to be more men than women, but the ladies are definitely here. Â If you are a good looking, cool lady, you will be told so by the end of the night!
If you love good music, awesome people, playing pool and having a good time, look no further than Shotz. Soon it'll be your home away from home. I know it's mine!
