The food was great! Â I'd say the decor was a bit "old" but the food certainly made up for it. Â I has the "Princess Chicken" special of the day with a cream mushroom wine sauce that was to die for! Â The vegetables were cooked to perfection. Â And the potatoes had a perfect crunch. Â 4 stars because I have yet to be in a place I would give 5. Â If you can look past the 80's decor and want to taste a great plate of food, try this place.
Review Source:First let me say as you read with the other reviews, Â the owners are very nice people. Â Â
That being said, I cannot really recommend the restaurant for its food based on my experience. Â The sauce tasted like it was burned. Â The pasta was overcooked and mushy. Â It appears everything comes with an order of pasta as I ordered the chicken with chutney. Â And, as with my friend's order, everything was on the same plate. Â The Chutney did not mix well with marinara sauce. Â Though I have to say the chicken had a nice flavor and was cooked well. Â
I also thought it was all a bit overpriced.
Take a step back in time in a good way. The chef Alfred is from Frankfurt  and his food is great.  The German food is excellent good pasta.  The little hole in the wall does not look like much but the food will convince you to stay and come back.  Keep the local places in business, try them.
Review Source:Excellent homemade food made from scratch! I would highly recommend this place to anyone not in a hurry and looking for a great quiet meal. All sauces are made from scratch after you order so make sure you allow yourself a good amount of time  for dinner. When you are done with your meal you have to finish your evening off with the homemade creme brulee that's to die for!!! We will be back again and again.
Review Source:I just had to write another review (my first one got filtered, but please still take the time to read it)! Â
What more can I say? Â I LOVE LOVE LOVE Alfred, Sima, and of course their food! Â I am in love with far too many of their dishes to name just one (or even a few)...all I can say is that you must try it for yourself. Â The hospitality is unbeatable, and the food is definitely a unique experience all in itself. Â It is definitely one of Colton's best-kept secrets.
Decided to try this place out randomly the other night with a guest (thanks yelp).
First and foremost, do not let this "hole in the wall" fool you. The atmosphere is very cozy inside. The owners are a wife and hubby who do everything on their own. My guest and I felt at home with the warm vibe they presented us.
The food was amazing. TRUE italian cuisine. I ordered a "Chicken Florentine" and it was delicious. The chicken was tender, cream based sauce was flavorful, but not overwhelming, and the noodles were expertly prepared.
As for dessert, my guest and I ordered a creme brulee and some vanilla dish that had caramelized bananas. Heavenly.
The dishes were simple, elegant, delicious, well portioned, and well presented.
Went on a Saturday during their limited hours in the evening. [:
I became aware of Sima's through Yelp and decided to give them a try because I wanted to try something different. Â The first thing that I noticed is that they are on the expensive side. Â If you order something besides a lunch special ($7-11 bucks I think) then you're going to pay $15 or more. Â None of these prices include a drink. Â The first time I went I ordered the German meatloaf (frekadele sp?) lunch special. Â It came with red sauce and pasta. Â The meatloaf tasted OK Â (not great), but the pairing with pasta was a bit odd, and the meatloaf was kinda cold in middle while having crisp edges like it had been refrigerated and reheated.
The 2nd time I went, I ordered the German bratwurst lunch special, which came with the bratwurst, potato salad, some red vegetable, and a spicy mustard. Â The brat was good, but rather small. It was awesome when dipped in the mustard. Â There was a lot of potato salad and it tasted OK, but I have to wonder why it didn't come with any bread. Â A roll or slice of sandwich bread would have done wonders for the meal. Â I didn't try the red vegetable because I didn't know what it was and wasn't feeling very adventurous at the time.
Sima's is interesting, but I feel iffy about paying so much for a meal that doesn't come with a drink. Â I'll likely be back, but it's nothing to rave about.
I hope this edits my review earlier; because I felt bad for the guy; since the style an business is pretty much going down the hill; so I had left him a 5 star, but to sit back an remember what yelp is all about. Yelp is about honest an true review about food or whatever it maybe. The food is way over price for noodles (small portions) an thrown together quickly. Almost feel back leaving this review but honesty is the key to the yelping. I'd save my money an go to another place.
Review Source:YUMMY! We happened to be in the area and wanted something different for lunch. We always turn to Yelp when we're unfamiliar with an area and at the top of the list was Sima's Restaurant. Don't judge this fabulous place by its outside appearance!
We were greeted at the door by the owners/cook/waiter/waitress. They do it all! Kevin had a chicken dish that tasted wonderful and I had French Dip with fries. It was all amazing and yummy.
Alfred came over to talk to us and to make sure everything was fine and we are now officially fans of this charming place and will be sure to tell everyone to give them a try!
They say good things come in small packages, and this is definitely the case with Sima's. Â Sima's is a small, hole-in-the-wall type restaurant with very simple decor, buy packs quite a punch with its flavors. Â The food is extremely delicious if you like simple, authentic, and fresh international cuisine. Â But there is absolutely nothing simple about the flavor of the dishes.
Food ranges from pasta, chicken, and steak dishes as well as burgers and sandwiches. Â There are also some German specialties that were very tasty, such as Bratwurst and German meatloaf. Â The secret to the flavors is really the freshness of the ingredients. Â Chef Alfred makes everything from scratch, even the salad dressings are made from scratch! Â I found Sima's on a business trip while in the San Bernardino area. Â This place was so good, I went back for lunch and dinner for the rest of the week and did not want to eat anywhere else!
Prices are very reasonable too, with dinner ranging from $12-$22, with steak dishes being the priciest items on the menu. Â Lunch ranges from $6-$10.
I can't say enough good things about Sima's other than go and try it for yourself. For someone who has sampled real European cuisine, it's nice to know that I don't need to hop on a 12 hour overseas flight just to enjoy those flavors. Â For me, it's only a 2 hr drive that I'm more than willing to make. :)
This restaurant is a one man show. Alfred is the waiter, cook, kitchen person. He is friendly and when my husband asked him what's good, Alfred adamantly stated that everything he serves is fresh. True enough- hubby and I were v satisfied. He ordered a steak, I the scallop with pasta. Scallops were a bit tiny, but that's expected of inland restos. All food is made to order and the place has character, so it's worth a visit!
Review Source:After all the 5-star reviews, I decided to check this place out for my birthday dinner with a party of 11. Â We made a reservation and were accommodated without any problems in the center of the room. Â This is not a large restaurant and easy to pass right by if you're not looking for it. Â
The husband and wife team running the place are very nice and I have no complaints about the service. Â Drinks were refilled promptly, and plates cleared soon after finishing a serving. Â The food came out in...stages...but this was expected for a group our size and a one man show in the kitchen.
We all ordered entrees and the food reviews I'd say were mixed. Â The pesto was good and probably the best thing on the table, other than the split pea soup which was excellent. Â The pasta dishes generally were underseasoned and bland. Â Adding salt helped, but it's not the same as cooking it with seasoning in the first place.
It seems to be the kind of place that if you've been going here for years, you are accustomed to the cooking style and appreciate it for it's tradition and home style feel. Â As a first time visitor, I didn't think it compared well with other offerings in the local area. Â The fare is mostly italian (other than the burgers) and Napoli's is only a few miles away in Loma Linda with much better atmosphere and food (for the same price).
If I'm in the area and feel like a burger sometime, I'd be willing to try that part of them menu and give them another chance.
I certainly wouldn't say it's a bad place to go, we had a fine visit. Â But, for the price, there are other options I prefer. Â Nine 5 star reviews without a single dissent is...surprising.
A real gem in the IE! Â If you're around, this place is a must.
I'm around the area for school during the week, and I'll be honest - the SanBerdu area's food scene is not much to brag about (except for some tasty Mexican places!). Â Sima's makes it all better with their homemade sauces, friendly service and mom-n-pop atmosphere, and *delicious* food! Â And when I say delicious, I mean I kept eating my food even thought I was grossly overstuffed, and took home the leftovers even though the amount left could fit in the palm of my hand (I can't let fantastic food go to waste!).
It is a marvel to watch Alfred work in the kitchen! Â The man works like he has 4 arms and 10 brains to juggle all the orders he is simultaneously making on the spot for the customers. Â Can't wait to go back and try more stuff mmmm :)
We found this place on Yelp and had a wonderful experience. Â When we arrived, we were the first customers that day. Â
I had a David burger and it was great! Â The fries were yummy! Â It was perfectly fried and was soft and baked potatoey on the inside.
Alfred told us he made all the sauces on demand, with the exception of marinara that he premade. Â How awesome is that!? Â He also did everything from taking our order, to waiting on us, and doing all the cooking.
We have to try the creme brulee next time.
A friend found this place based on an article/review he came across on the internet and decided to try it for his birthday celebration. There were 8 of us and we all had entrees and desserts. Every person in the group said their food was FANTASTIC!
I had tri-colored fusille pasta with the pesto sauce. This was REAL pesto sauce, too! Alfred makes the sauces after they are ordered so they are completely fresh. And let me tell you again, it was YUMMY!
For dessert I had ice cream with some sort of avocado sauce. I had heard of putting avocado w/vanilla ice cream so decided to try it. I like trying unusual things. Apparently, they make the sauce w/brandy and as I am not a drinker and do not appreciate the taste of alcohol of any type, I was quite surprised :-)
I highly recommend Sima's Restaurant and would encourage you to visit this place. We were talking about when we would go again even before we left the restaurant!!
This restaurant may be the only reason to visit Colton, but it is well worth the effort. A true conjurer of sauces, Alfred prepares 40 different sauces from scratch. We had chicken florintine and chicken piccata, both of which were excellent. The beer selection is excellent.
We'll definitely be going back.
When I say mom-n-pop, I mean literally, it's a husband/wife team that run this place. I've been coming here for years, and it's an authentically warm experience with every coming meal. Alfred will greet you with a smile, take your order, and start chopping and baking and frying away in the kitchen. He even brews his own iced tea daily. Everything is THAT fresh.
My usual is the Dijon chicken with pasta, steamed vegetables, and salad with honey mustard dressing. It's cooked perfectly every time.
They're a classy couple with warm personalities. Highly recommend.
My family has been eating here for like 20 years. Â This is a little taste of Europe tucked away inside a nondescript shopping center in Colton, of all places, run by chef Alfred and his wife Sima, who are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Â My family loves the chicken florentine, chicken cordon bleu, pepper steak, and the pasta fromaggi. Â They've also got a pretty good selection of non-mainstream German beers. Â If you are in the 909 and looking for a break from the endless bland chain restaurants in the area, I highly recommend Sima's.
