Pretty seedy place.  Was looking for an Asian bar and this popped up so I checked it out.  Extremely limited selection of drinks.  Most people go for the girls I suppose, but even that's not a great sight.

fun.. cheap beer and good company. The bathrooms are a little stuffy but a small price to pay to have fun I suppose. The girls working there are very hard working and do a great job making sure your beers are always full. This is one of the few Viet bars I will  go to in San Jose.

We came here with a bunch of friends for a birthday shindig, this place was pretty awesome. The vibe was pretty chill and the ox-tail hot pot was bomb-diggity. ^_^
There was just the right amount of kick to it. I must say, it's one of my favorite dishes now! I'm going to be on it like a fat kid on cake.

The entertainment was alright... I was more mesmerized with the old school MV's playing in the background, than the girls dancing... High standards, I guess.
But overall, it was pretty fun watching all my other friends whom had their Quan
Nhau-cherries popped, stare and giggle at each other watching the entertainment get "acquainted" with the crowd.

Only thing that sucked was the fact that they only serve beer and sell bottles of the good stuff, rather than individual shots.

Our hostess was cute. Her name was Marina (hope I spelled it right) and she was very friendly.

Pro: The chips and salsa was good, and it was just a nice place to hang out. Music was good, and the atmosphere was somehow relaxing.

Con: They don't sell mix drinks, and only have a limited selection of beers. Also second hand smoke was heavy, people with asthma please be careful when going into this place. They ran out of soap in the restroom, and the paper towel was outside the restroom. I think the bathroom looks like someone fought in there because it got holes on the wall.

I feel bad for the girls that works there, they have to put up with second hand smoke day in and day out. I am not sure if they will get out of that place without lung cancer later on.

    Disneyland for us grown folks!

    For the men:
Ooh weeeeeee! Hostesses and the strippers here are HOT HOT buttery HOT. BOMB hourglass shaped bodies and butterfaces. But BIG asses and tiny waists in lacey lingerie FTW! They're friendly and sweet too! Maybe because I'm a girl. But make sure your eyes stay low when you're handing them that $20 for the BEST lap dance of your life! Sugar, butter, flour... JIGGLE JIGGLE slap that dough on them pancakes!

    For my ladies:
My two girlfriends and I were the only female patrons here last night. BIG MISTAKE. Haha god damn, the men here are hella feisty and aggressive!! They will nonstop holler for DAYS. If one fails, his drunkass friend will try, then his other friend will make a wager and go, "I GOT DIS" then try even though he's falling over your lap. You won't feel lonely here. Yo I'm staying positive.

I was ready to rate it 5 stars until we got slapped with a jacked up bill. We ordered one sake bottle of Henny, and one of us got the AYCD beer ($20), but our bill was almost $200. WHAT? Turns out they charged us for the bottle someone from the other booth ordered. Hella shady and/or negligent. And $55 for barely 4 shots? Nawwww not buying drinks here again.

But still. Walking out at 4am... I felt glorious smelling like panties, dollar bills and cigarettes... All items that belonged to someone else. LAWLS

It's a decent place. Not too dirty or ghetto and the waitresses are friendly.  Not sure what time it starts or end but my sister and I had a order some appetizers and it was half off. That's a steal. I mean other Vietnamese bar charge so much for food. Drinks here are priced very reasonable too. We had a party there one time and bottle service was unbelievably cheap. The giant Costco grey goose bottle is $100, well then plus tips.  They also have "specials" like a sake bottle filled with grey goose is $35, roughly 7 shots, instead of ordering single shots at $9 per. Food is not awesome, but its a bar, i didn't expect food to be good. And i am glad they don't have drunks singing like other Vietnamese bars. They have loud music usually your top 40 or mainstream hip hop stuff and they do have tv's playing music videos as well. On slower nights, where the VIP area isn't filled, there is a small lil "dance floor"
I can't remember, but i think it is Wednesdays and Saturdays that they have strippers and lap dances. And yes, like many other Vietnamese bars, they allow smoking. Service is great, because I left my leather jacket there with my iPhone in it, came back the next day, the manager had it waiting for me to pick it up. hmm... maybe it is because my sister giving them a fat tip that night? haha

Overall, it is a bar, with loud music for groups to get out there and enjoy the night. And be sure to lock your car because it is in the HEART of GHETTO east side San Jose....

oh sin....i don't even know where to start.
we decided to come here because VIP was too crowded and we needed a spot to just chill and drink and maybe eat. my friend suggest sin because she said "it's just funny to be there" whatever that means..
so we go and the first thing i noticed was that it was in some sketchy ass plaza. right when we walk in, an immense amount of cigarette smoke came out. immediately i left my jacket in the car.

we sat down and decided to order drinks. the beer was 5 dollars a bottle. pretty good. but they ran out of every choice possible, leaving only Heineken. whatever, we ordered it and sat. then the people watching began. i noticed that the waitresses were very playful with everyone, taking shots with the guys next to us. my guy friend was flattered because one of the servers touched him on the shoulder. one of the servers told me not to leave my wallet on the table, i guess they've had instances where people's stuff got stolen. not surprised. then all of a sudden, "go go dancers" came out. i guess "go go dancers" would be a more polite term, they were more like strippers in my opinion. two guys in the corner asked them for a lap dance...and they were working hard for their money!!! you go girl, do whatever you need to do!

we thought it'd be funny to ask a girl for a dance for one of our friends. we asked how much and they said 10 dollars. NOT BAD. these chicks were cute too, but my friend decided that any girl who agrees to give a lap dance for 10 dollars isn't exactly the best idea. anyway, that was pretty much the night. we were sober, probably could have gotten lung cancer from all the second hang smoke and watched a skinny asian girl dry hump a man. the end.

Went here when it was Xa Lang with 2 of my girlfriends

The girls here are really friendly and attentive! The best part is that the food here is pretty damn good. Had their chicken wings, spicy mango salad, and crunchy chow fun with seafood (not sure).

The food is pricey but I think on certain days its half off, SWEEET
Someone mentioned the mi quang in the previous reviews; my next to eat list.

5 stars definite Friday nite spot for you and your boys if not with your girlfriends.

Loud music with streaming videos are up on all the tubes, selection is majority hip hop some alot of bay area hits along the lines of Luniz, Richie Rich, and  day to day newer songs that are played on the radio.

The layout is nice comfy couches, open walk ways when the spot is half full, definitely a spot to come down and visit on a friday nite haha, bring dollar bills lots of them

    service ***** friendly staff
ambiance ***** dark, roomy, smoky, etc

    Come for lunch!

Take your pick Pho or Mi Quang (Hue' Style Noodle Soup).

It might not seem like a lot of variety but it's their specialties and they do it well.

    Check out the pic!
The mi quang is down right good. Soup customarily halfway full and filled with goodies: shrimp ( head-on), pork tenderloin, bacon, quail eggs aplenty, mild veggies, topped with huge sesame chip.  This portion easily filled me up and Im 200+ lbs (been told I have an appetite of fat -calved linebacker but those days are surely over).

The atmosphere is the same at Sin's @ night except more light and minus the ladies.  You dine upright on tables and not hunched on a sofa, though you can opt for that too. Feels just like home.

For people in the Eastside, the 101 is the unofficial border that separates the Mexican and Vietnamese sides of Story Road. What I found funny about this establishment is that this place is located on the Mexican side of Story Road.

We ended up coming here on a random night and kind of had a feeling of what to expect. Service was so-so, unless if you're a regular and in that case, you'd get better service. It's a cool place to hangout, have some drinks, and have something to eat. With rap and dance music blasting throughout the lounge with dancers entertaining customers, it's definitely an entertaining place.

TIP: If you can, really try to limit the amount you spend on food. The food here is way overpriced, but the drinks are priced decently. Also, bring some $1 bills.

Tip:  If you just want to eat some Vietnamese bar food without the crowd and smoke, come early on a weekday!  It's pretty dead and you're able to get food quick.

Some specials they have are 1/2 all food items on Monday, 2$ beers on Thursday and a sake & food special on Tuesday.  Sadly enough I missed the special by coming on a Wednesday but I still had great fun with my friends.

Here are some recommended Vietnamese dishes to try!

    Green mango salad
    Clam salad with rice crackers
    Shaking Beef with Fries
    Be Thu (veal)

I also really enjoy their escargot.  The dishes are a bit pricy though so grab a group so you can share!

Now this place use to be called Xa-Lang Lounge and now called Sin Lounge. I was very hesitant in coming here because I have never been to a Vietnamese Bar before. The atmosphere was quite gloomy and all you can smell is cigarettes.

But I still gave it this place a shot, and boy was it pretty fun. $2 Beers and the food was yummy! I recommend ordering the crunchy mango, seafood chow fun, and raw beef salad. The waitresses were super nice and friendly. Towards the end of the night go-go dancers came out and since it was my friend's birthday I bought him a lap dance! haha he was pretty shy..poor guy. (sorry vinh! HAHA) ^_^

I highly recommended coming here with a group!!

Sin Lounge, you guys are pretty cool
    I'll be coming back :)

Had the best time at this spot a few months ago! I heard they have since remodeled it and added a stripper pole and i gotta see that for myself :) They serve hot pot until late in the night, cheap beers, fun and goodlooking waitresses and go go dancers with good music all night. Truly impressed.

PS: They have updated and changed their business name to SIN lounge. So much easier to pronounce!

One of my favorite Quan Nhau places besides Nha Em or Eight Heaven Lounge. How else do you spend your Sunday evening? On a quest to enjoy a round of $2 beers, balut, shaking beef (bo luc lac), oxtail soup, shots of grey goose and patron, etc. I came to Xa Lang for a couple of birthday celebrations each time! The waitresses who dilly-dally with their customers are super friendly, cute, and worth the money to spend your tips after a night of serenading the ladies with their karaoke system! Yes, the ladies are HOT and sexy especially late evenings on Fridays and Saturdays as they have Go-Go dancers!

Clean bathrooms, plush seating arrangements, bar area, and a stripper pole! Yeah....they have a stripper pole!! Ladies, if you know how to use it, handle with care!! HAHA! It's not quite lit inside with the dim lighting, dark demure of black and red color scheme, and paintings of tattooed ladies, but it's worth to check out if you're looking to have fun on a weekend! Noted, there are a few plasma TVs playing top 40 music and the food menu is extensively pricey. However, If you go during their happy hour (Sunday-Wednesday), you can save a couple of dolla dolla bills while playing cards, drinking, dancing, eating, etc. You get the idea! Overall, it's a great place to chill, have fun with your friends and enjoy the environment!

They do take reservations for someone's birthday, graduation, promotion at work, or any other celebration! They check IDs so be sure that your guests are above the age of 21! This is an indoor smoking environment, so be aware of your surroundings. The place is opened 5PM until 1AM on weekdays, but Thursdays-Saturdays, they keep it open until 2AM!

Will I be willing to come back? YES!

This is a great place to hangout with friends...guy friends so to say. You know what I'm talking about if you been here before. If you tire of boring bar or strip club then is is a combination of both except for the nude...don't expect it here. All of the girls work there are pretty damn "HOTTT". This is where you start dumping your doe, the girls will try to hustle you into buying drinks and food with their looks and flirtation. Food is great but kinda pricey but who the hell cares when you at this kinda place. Oh did I tell you that right after 9pm or 10pm that's when the fun starts. They have Go-Go girls...yes Go-Go girls and you can actually buy a lap-dance from them......NICEEEE. No live DJ but got music videos. This place is off the hook...good for birthday. They open late every night til 2am.

They ask if you want water, it ain't free.  No protective paper for chips so it is probably dirty.  Everything is so ghetto (but what can you expect, look at the location).  I think they are a bit discriminative because we did not get any service like the ones in these reviews.  Oh, they added extra items to our bill, which was no fun to find a solution to since the workers are slow and do not know how to calculate.  Uhhh, places like these are over-rated.

I had fun here.  Left Chot Nho early because it was sooo boring there.  But this place was fun.  We got seated at the couches which was a good space and very comfortable.  Got our drinks and orders right when we were seated.

The girls are pretty, young and fun!  They dressed nice but not too skimpy. Mostly navel revealing tops and daisy-dukes.  I liked their shoes.  A few of them were really friendly with me.  I like that.  The music was pretty loud but at least it was good.  The food was surprising really tasty for a place like this.  They even have karaoke!  In English and Vietnamese!

I think my favorite were the girls who talked to me.  They're funny, witty, have soft skin and smelled nice.  I wouldn't mind tagging along again with the boys the next time they come down.

I asked my Asian friend, who is even more of a world traveler and international man of mystery than me, the following:

    Q. What is a "Quan Nhau"?

    A. It is similar to a Korean "Po Cha"

(My thoughts:) Po Cha? I have heard of Po Chai, those little pellets in a plastic vile, inside an individual box, that you drink with your tea after an upset stomach in Hong Kong, but Po Cha?

    Q. What is a "Po Cha"?

    A. It's like a Japanese "Snack" bar

(My thoughts:) So it is a bar where you drink alcohol, snack on junk food, get an upset stomach, and they have Asian Pepto Bismol waiting for you? Why would they call it by the bad results and medicine, instead of something more alluring?

    Q. Uh, what is a Japanese "Snack" bar?

    A. It is like an expensive Hooters, but with less grease and tackiness.

(Ohhh, huuuhh? trying to picture a Hooters without greasy food and with less tackiness. I mean, tackiness is in their slogan! Hooter's Slogan: "Delightfully tacky yet unrefined")

    Q. So what is a Quan Nhau again?

A Quan Nhau is a Vietnamese bar where groups (usually men, but there are usually some women present) go to order large group dishes of food, but that is really an excuse to drink alcohol. Then they socialize, and do other hanging out things, like watch music videos, watch sports, sing Karaoke, even play cards, and smoke (Don't go here and complain about the smoke, it is common in any Quan Ngau.)

What brings the men in are the pretty girl hostesses, who will give you good service and good eye candy, usually.

This place is new, very American lounge like, large, with a great sound system for the music videos or Karaoke, and the manager is really nice.

It offers a lot of dishes, seafood, meats, noodles, etc., and comfortable seating in sofas and table and chairs.

They rearranged the place for our large group (15+), despite having another large group (20+) already there. Service was great, ambiance was really nice, and the prices were great. ($2 beers ALL NIGHT!)

1 star deduct for No coffee! No diet sodas! But the rest is great. I had a great time with my Yelp buddies, 2 who celebrated their birthdays here, and most of whom have reviewed this place already!

Since it was my first time to a Vietnamese style bar I can honestly say that it will not be my last time. Since I have alot of my very good friends either Vietnamese or Chinese I have come to adapt and love the food and hang outs as well.

This was the 2nd part of Hannah's and Bobby's Bday bash and them $2.00 beers were so like so worth it that even the Patron and Grey  Goose and the Heineken' s were going down as fast as they were served.

Hannah and Bobby, Thank you for letting me be part of your yelp family!! I really enjoyed myself and the waitress's were super friendly and cute as well

I come to this plaza a lot but for tropicana and chaletco's but I had no idea this kind of place was here LMFAO.

Clean establishment, folks aren't pushy and the decor is well... reminds me a tad of Las Vegas. Plush seats, comfortable chairs... woot.

Overall I got to catch up on my top 40 videos while folks smoked their cigarettes and enjoyed 2 dollar beers (Sundays).

Cigars are a no no here.. but then it is like... if you allow cigarettes.... what's to stop people from cigars..

Thus marks the spot where Susan ate the yolk of a Balut.  A giant step   forward in being brave enough to consume an entire chicken fetus...I'm not joking, wiki it.

Hannah C. and Bobby L.'s B-day Bash--The Second Half, commenced here.

Must have at least one Asian to enter.  Must have tolerance for a smoking environment. Do not expect service that can be described as "loving" or "papering."

Never the less, Tasty Cigars, Karaoke (Hotel California to Vietnamese Love Ballads), Shots (Grey Goose!), Dancing (with top 40 music videos on the large screens), and Cute Waitresses, all add up to a smashing good time!

    XA LANG LOUNGE

Very hip and modern Vietnamese bar with ultra-cool/stylish furniture. The bar is surrounded by cool sci-fi/fantasy/sexy posters of half-naked girls. The staff is very friendly and not too bad on the eye. Beers were cheap at $2 during Happy Hour, but the food is ridiculously expensive! Who pays $15 for french fries and edemame?

I'm usually not a "quan nhau" kinda grl, but this place was super chill and comfortable. They have a good mixure of girls and guys who frequent XL so i dont feel like the only grl sitting at the place like most quan nhaus. The decor is modern and created great ambiance. The girls are pretty n super nice. The place is pretty large and it seems to be "the it place to be" nowadays so come early to get primary seating on their comfy couches and next to the go-go dancers. Food is delicious and of great quality and they often  have specials like 2 dollar beer nights! My friends and i always have a blast when we go!

water is $3, heineken is $3.50.

this is a newly opened vietnamese bar in the tropicana shopping center. up until now, this whole shopping center was solely mexican, so obviously the presence of xa lang indicates a cultural shift.

the hostess chicks walk around with pitchers of ice and long-handled scoops. that's fine for the water, but a little weird for beer, if you ask me. not to mention they stick straws in your beer. seems a bit emasculating, but hey, when in rome...

they have those viet coffee bar ashtrays made of tinfoil, but these had water in them. seems like that would make it messy if the cops busted in and you had to crumple them up.

their hostess employees didn't seem to be 100% vietnamese. some seemed maybe mixed race or not even asian at all. so that's good, i guess. introducing a little variety into things. the chicks who came by our table didn't seem that outgoing. i thought one was part of our group until she mentioned she worked there. i would never have guessed. she was just eating noodles silently.

the dishes were around $20 each. we had: fried chow fun noodles with seafood, halibut hot pot and a bunch of other things. i didn't have any, i'd just come back from a bbq.

the decor is unique. it's kind of budget pin-up chic. the walls are covered in giant fabric panels printed with pin-up girls. the menu and the bathroom have a few token poses as well.

the music was very loud, but there wasn't a lot of karaoke going on when i was there. most of the other patrons (other than our group) were seated at a kind of detached bar. a bunch of them were smoking, but the smell didn't drift over to us.

about 6 flat-screen tvs played hip-hop videos from various eras simultaneously while playing the music. someone must have been indecisive, cause often a video would start, then it would stop and skip to another one. some other tvs played sports at the same time.

there are kinks to be worked out, for sure. the female staff could be more outgoing, for one thing. but this is a decent place to bring a group of people for a good time.

My 1st Vietnamese bar (i am not asian) and I have to say it was very cool. They had Vietnamese music and also Hip hop and R&B. I went with a few coworkers so it was fun. I had my friend order and she ordered us some cubed beef. WOW this was BOMB!!!! i been waiting to go back just for the food. I would have given the place 5 stars but you cant order a drink without ordering a whole bottle which sucked so I was stuck drinking a few beers so it lead to the 4 stars. Well I am sure I would go back to this place again. Staff was very nice and girls where very cute

Update: was the former "Xa Lang" Lounge

Hmm, what is there to like at this "quan nhau"=drinking venue? Let's see:
    - the friendliness of the waitresses (and eye-candy to boot),
    - the go-go dancers on Thurs-Sat,
    - the high number of female customers,
    - the foods (quite tasty, and goes with the drinkings),
    - the newness (only opened for three months!),
    - the atmosphere (airy and not too dark),
    - the music videos (current Top-40s and VNese),
    - the broadcast sports (alongside music videos),
    - the karaoke selections (English, VNese, Chinese, etc.),
    - the Happy Hour (Sun-Wed, $2/beer),
    - the hours are from 5pm-midnight, I think, but we stayed past 1AM.

Nice place for peeps to hang out after work, or on weekends. Thank you Cacee, Lisa, Darlene, Carmen, Margaret, etc. Holla (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D1q8s58mK-Cs&s=a0cb489adf122cb8a0f5f310d825afd0e7fe564353c97f65ca386b6c0fb66f83" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>)!

Okaay, HANDS DOWN, this is the BEST quan ngau in San Jose right now! My bff invited me to come out and I was not expecting this at all! It is humongous inside, and super nice, modern, clean, verrrry Americanized and cozy! I was telling her that I wanted to celebrate my bday here, and that's all the way in October, haha. The music, food, crowd and waitresses is all G-double O-D, good! The one thing I criticize the MOST about going to nhaus are the waitress' service for female patrons, but the waitresses here gives awesome service! Not only is the girls pretty eye candy, mixed nationalities/diverse (its not all just Viet girls working), nice and attentive, but there's alot of girls working so there is always service near by, ice packed in cups (cause I like my beer super cold), beer flowing etc. so you never have to wait... Except for karaoke cause it's ridiculously packed! Yaaah, it is that FUN!  A+++

GOOD JOB, XA LANG! You'll be seeing alot more of me... Gotta say, this is my #1 pick for Viet bars and its down the street from my home! Extra kudos. Whoo hoo! ;)

    Happy Drinking!

The atmosphere is great.  They do not play Vietnamese music all night; they rotate 3 vietnamese songs and then 3  hip hop songs, and after a certain hour, its all hip hop.  Which is cool, cause I dont sing karoke.  Very nice setting, it isnt dirty or ghetto, and the bathrooms are kept up.
The food is awsome.  I love their beef jerky patter (vietnamese cuttle fish & curry jerky) as finger food in case you're not hungry.  But everything else is actually good.
The girls (waitresses) there are super nice.  Most places usually only cater to the guys, but the girls here are also attentive to the girls.  & they're pretty.  But what is also nice is that I notice the owners help out and talk to patrons as well.  Shows they care.

As for Hello K.  Maybe you're just a hater.  For some one to act like they know and go to quan nhau's a lot.  FYI:  It's Sao Dem that closed, not Sao Bien.  If you don't know what you're talking about, then keep it to yourself.

Great place....! The food is super tasty here...the bo luc lac is effing awesome here. My friend and I went on their opening day and had to wait, and while we did, one of the owners treated us to a drink. Now that's what I call great service. Place is HUGE compared to other bars, hella TVs surrounding the place, the deco is great, and everyone was having a good time. Went here a few times already and of course I'm going back....cool place to chill, eat, and relax

I went here last Friday and got a really uncomfortable feeling from the vibe. I guess there were too many gangsters sitting around. Big quan nhau gives me the creep because of the high possibility of a fight breaking out. Sooo... I was nagging to my friends about leaving and next thing you know, there was a FIGHT!!! eeeekkk.. The girls were fighting and next thing you know, the boyfirends and friends were jumping in!

Totally not the place for me. It reminds me of the Sao Bien place that shut down. I'll stick to the low keyed quan nhau. Mucho safer!

First of all,  the place is HUGE...first time I saw a vietnamese bar this big. I love the pictures of the girls on the wall, so seductive..lol..Second, the waitresses here are super friendly, nice, attentive, and full of energies. Third, the music here are pretty good (Hip-hops & R&B) although you, sometimes, have to put up with some lousy ass singing from the customers here..ahhaha.. and last BUT not least, the place has a great selection of food.

I have not tried the food yet since I was full. However, the food looked veryy appertizing. I'm planning to come back next week to try their food (my mouth is salvating, thinking of there food, now. ahhahaah)

If you're looking for place to chillax with super friendly, down to earth, waitresses and great food..you outta come to this place to check it out yourself. You'll leave happy and satisfied by the end of the night .
