Slate Street Billiards

UPDATE: As of April 1, 2007 Slate Stree Billiards has, sadly, closed.  There is talk of someone reopening in that space but, currently, the tables have been dismantled and it stands empty.

Here is my original review...

The thing I like best about Slate Street is its friendly mellow vibe.  Too many pool halls tend towards the extremes of either super-seedy or uber-hipster.  I just want to shoot some stick without being hassled by hustlers or yelling over the music to ask someone to please move so I can shoot.  Slate Street is a great atmosphere to shoot in.

Despite its strip mall storefront, the interior is open and inviting with 16 full size tables.  There are always people playing but there is almost always a table available - even on the Tuesday & Wednesday league nights.  Lots of TVs to keep an eye on the game and a row of dart boards (real ones, not electronic) you can play for free (ask at the bar if you didn't bring your own darts for free loaners).

There is a decent menu of typical bar fare and a better than average beer selection (incl. hacher pschorr, blue moon, fat tire, murphy's irish stout, etc.).  The waitstaff is friendly and attentive... although sometimes on busy nights they'll have a lot of tables to look after so you may have to catch their eye when your drink gets empty.  But they're really nice and work hard, so tip 'em well when you close out your table.
