Holy crap this place is dated. The chairs LOL. I think my grandparents used to have one in the same style, which was covered with paint, buried deep in basement. The menu, decor and staff all need to be updated. Upon arriving my group struck up a conversation about how this place has to be a front for laundering money or some other nefarious activity. Seriously, what kind of operation are they running here? My buddy and I started making mob refferences, which made our girlfriends nervous.  Embarasing my girlfriend in public is a hobby of mine, so when the waitress came to our table I looked across the table at my buddy and said: "Try he veal, it's the best in the city." The waitress says: "we don't have veal sir," completely missing the Godfather reference. I laughed so hard she had to comeback to get the order. That was funny.

Oh and the food, well the food leaves something to be desired. It is realy bland and generaly overcooked. We split a ceaser salad to start which was way below average, 2 stars at best.  We had calamari and spinach artchoke dip for apitizers. The calamari was fishy tasteing and had the cosistancy of a deflated basketball.  However, the spinach artichoke dip was pretty good especialy when compared to the disaster the main course turned out to be. The burger was edible (had trouble coming up with an adjective here). The flavor was alright but the problem was it was way overdone. Ordered it medium rare and it was beyond well done. The waitress insisted it was cooked right. She just forgot how I wanted it because she did not write the order down.  Also, I asked for onions that never came... My girlfriend's fish was also overdone and served with a cup of mayo instead of tartar sauce, which was corrected eventually by the waitress.  My buddy and his girlfriend split a steak and a personal pizza. The pizza was laughably bad and the steak, which he ordered rare, was fully cooked. Suck. The prices for beer was a little above average but fair, I mean they did have to pay rent for a restaurant that was pretty empty.

This place gets two stars for the spinach artichoke dip.

My friends and I call this place the "sloppy box".  It's a last resort on a Wednesday night when all other plans have fell through.  It's basically a blue collar cougar town type of joint.  If you're looking for a wrinkled divorcee with a kid that's DTF you're in the right place, if you can get past the mom jeans.  The owner is a heavy set drunkard who often does the bar tending, don't expect good service unless you show some cleavage.  Feel free to drive away under the influence, the place is protected.  It's amazing what  kind of friends you make with a couple free drinks.  Just tell "Ponch" that you're on your way home from the fox... unless of course his x-wife is in the passenger seat.

Is it  possible to give zero stars?  ....Saturday night 9:45 PM, two bar attendants, 5 customers seated at the bar  and zero service.  Manager on hand indifferent to appeal of unattended customers and once approached, gave a lame attempt to satisfy our needs upon leaving the restaurant.  What a unprofessional DUMP!

Went here recently for a reunion on a Sunday afternoon with a party of 10. We were the only table in the dining room, seems like everyone but our party already knew that the food and service here is awful. that is why the place was so empty.  Everyone in my party had a complaint with their food.  Service was terrible. DO NOT EAT HERE. Food was as bad as it was 5 years ago.

Nice little place for dinner. Friendly staff. Quick service. Thir bar is right next door. Noisy from the bar on the other side of the wall especially on karaoke night but I don't really mind it. This place is a little outdated though. The food is good. Their appetizer sampler with buffalo wings, mozz sticks, and breaded zucchini sticks are delicious with their 3 different sauces-blue cheese, honey mustard, and marinara. Cole slaw is good. Turkey burger is good. Plenty of meter parking around or park somewhere in the neighborhood.

Restaurant: Standard 3/5. Good old fashion American cuisine. Standard taste, standard prices.

Bar: This is where the older folks hang out. 40+. So if you are looking for Cougars, this is the right place. I don't really have much to say about this place. I like how they open the facade in the summer and it has the feel of an outdoor bar. The bartenders there are nice St. Johns. girls who are liberal with pouring drinks and buying drinks for their customers.

My family and I have had it!! I ordered the  large spare rib dinner. What I received were two separate slabs of ribs on my plate. The smaller piece was delicious. The meat was of the juicy, "fall off the bone " variety that one would expect of ribs. The larger slab was not fit for human consumption! Sparing you the distasteful details, suffice it to say, animal cruelty organizations would protest if you fed it to your dog!! Our lovely server graciously returned my meal to the kitchen and asked that I patiently await a freshly prepared ordered. My guests completed their entrees by the time my anxiously anticipated "meal" arrived. IT WAS THE SAME SLAB OF RIBS I RETURNED EARLIER, HEATED IN A MICROWAVE , AND TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, SANS THE VEGETABLES AND POTATO I PARTIALLY COMPLETED BEFORE!! The manager removed my dinner charges from the bill but made NO attempt to offer any apologies or inducements that would encourage us to return ever again!

Great neighborhood spot in Queens. Not meant for wannabes. Nice pub with comfort food, quaint decor, great service and quite reasonably priced.  Will definitely come again. When judging reviews, consider the source and the reviewers' standard venues. SFI is a 3 overall but a 4 in its category.

This place has great food and a good atmosphere. The one time we did have issues with the server, the owners made it right by buying our party a round and understanding when we didn't leave a tip. Overall I would recommend going here if you want a good, local, sports bar.

After reading other reviews out of curiosity, I felt like I had to write a piece in defense of The Sly Fox Inn. We've gone there several times over the years, and we really like it. The proprietors are very friendly and accommodating, and the service, for the most part, is attentive and solicitous. The food has always been good, and the prices are extremely reasonable, especially the specials (lunch, dinner, early bird). I've also been there for corporate events, and the bar food they served was fresh and delicious. I like the bi-level dining room, and the decor (old books on shelves, fireplace, carved wood chairs). I like the fact that, on game nights, the noise from the bar doesn't spill out so much into the dining area - for those of us who are more into having a peaceful dinner and not an exciting game.

I don't see the restaurant as "barely surviving" - they've been there a long time and have fairly steady business and a lot of regulars.

Rudness.  My experience is they'd rather not have business.

Sly fox inn is barely surviving. The food has deteriorated, the place is disgustingly filthy and the staff are all arrogant assholes. During the day you'll have a foul mouthed bartender yelling at you to go fuck yourself if you don't like what you see on their crappy menu. At night you have a bartender that is clueless on how to work behind a bar. My friends don't go anymore because the bartenders steal the money left on the bar, thinking its their tips. Then they argue with everyone. Karaoke host is about 90 yrs old and fits in perfectly with its stale old-age-home crowd it draws and outdated cherrywood decor.
Mens Bathroom is disgusting with tiles falling off the walls and the dirt on the floor is 2" thick.  They charge $5 to get in on the weekends. Who are these people?? Who still collects admission to go drink their watered down drinks?? It must be to pay the 65 yr old white haired DJ who plays songs like the macarena and brown eyed girl. On the weekends you'll find the same 8 people (who look like they just crawlled out ftom being under a rock for 20 years) sitting around the bar. The AC is never put on on hot days or nights and it smells like a stinky gym locker room. (It's an old bar tactic: you sweat, you drink more) by the way- the next time you order top shelf liquor, ask yourself if it really is what you ordered. They pour cheap liquor into empty expensive liquor bottles!! You think you're getting top shelf, when in reality, you're getting crap liquor and probably will get sick!!
I wouldn't  recommend this place to anyone. Go to Bell blvd. Lots more fun and attitude free.
Sly Fox inn is the last place people go before they are dead and buried. I see this place lasting another 6 months if they're lucky.

I attended a party here. I did not order a drink so I will not comment on the bar.

The wait staff was enthusiastic and friendly, but poorly trained. We frequently had to yelp for the waitress who would come to the table ask if everything was good, and run away a second later. They kept bringing us drinks, failing to remove the empty glasses. It became annoying until another waitress gave the brilliant idea that they could give us a pitcher of water instead of compulsively approaching us with multiple glasses of water. Our tables continued to pile with dishes they failed to remove when more dishes came out.

This was probably due to the layout. The tables were placed in a manner that was not conducive to allowing people to be comfortable, although it helped with conversation. I like to get up and move around, and was just tickled when the kids pushed another table next to mine without asking.

The food was fine, and came out nice and hot. My steak was prepared to perfection as I had requested. However, I found it tacky that they brought out our cake with a printed out paper computer message, instead of just writing it on the cake.

we had a shower at Sly fox inn and everything went really well! The place was a  good size for the 25-30 guests we had. The food was pretty good *we did brunch
the party coordinator -Diane- was absolutely helpful and terrific. They bent over backwards to help us. (She was even integral in keeping it a surprise)I would definitely recommend it - we decorated th place and cam in earlier to put
things together - and they were just so nice~

Been coming here for quite a few years and I'm just now getting around to writing a review. Overall this is a pretty cool place.

One whole side is a bar/pub, and the other side is the proper restaurant. The food is good, and they have a rather extensive menu. On Sunday, they have a pretty good brunch menu as well, and it's pretty hard to beat the prices.

Full bar with a few beers on tap, this is real popular with the old school, drink all day every day crowd. As such, the clientele tends to be older - The kind of older clientele that doesn't realize they haven't been 21 since 1975, but it's all good really. Service is always friendly, owner is pretty much always on site, and is just a great place to hang out. Of note, on the weekend after 9pm, the have a DJ and dancing.

The DJ is EXCELLENT I must say, and the vibe is really nice.

However pay attention gentlemen, men must pay a cover charge if entering after 9pm. Of course women are always free, because you know a woman's money isn't green enough or whatever. The cover charge is only $5, but seriously that's not the point. Why this isn't considered sex discrimination is beyond me. These types of policies are among the many reasons I refuse to go to clubs and lounges. At least there's really nothing in the way of a dress code.

So what you guys need to do is come out with your lady around 8pm and have dinner and drinks on the bar side. Once you're in, you're in, and you won't be asked to leave or pay the cover when the DJ shows up.

All of that being said, this is a nice chill vibe, and tends to be a lot of fun when the dancing starts. Great place to people watch, and you'll see a lot of Studio54 type stuff - mainly in the form of 50-60 somethings who don't realize the 70s are over. This is mixed with St. Johns kids and just regular people.

Tends to be a nice time, though every so often it seems to be "Lowered Expectations" night - MadTV fans know what I'm talking about.

Overall this is a nice place, come check it out. You'll enjoy the food, the dancing is great, and you're sure to see something interesting!

I can't speak to the bar or drinks and I'm middle-aged so I can't discuss the complaints of 20-somethings from St. John's, so we'll start there. Sly Fox is a perfectly fine place if you live in that part of Queens or eastern Queens and don't want to run to Astoria, Long Island City or some of the other more interesting Queens neighborhoods for dining.

The ambience in the dining area is pleasant, the help is always friendly, and if you're near the fireplace in winter it can even be cozy. Primarily I go there for lunch during the week and if you stick to basic foods like the wraps and sandwiches you're fine. I'm not a burger person but the one my friend ordered recently didn't look particularly appealing, so I'm not sure the place rises to the standard of good pubs in that area.

Again, this is not fine dining but it is a nice local place for a lunch or simple dinner, and you don't have to spend 15 minutes looking for a parking spot as you might have to in Astoria.

Of the 4 drinks I had here last time I went with coworkers, 75% (read: 3) were incorrect.
-I asked for a gin and soda and received a gin and tonic. (Forgivable...I didn't mention it)
-I asked for a strawberry daiquiri and received a tequila and daiquiri mix concoction. (Forgivable...except when your first drink was wrong and you're afraid of the bartender)
-I asked for a gin and soda and received a gin and soda. (CORRECT!)
-I asked for a gin and soda and received a vodka and soda. (Unforgivable--vodka...ech!)

Lucky for me, my coworker sent that last drink back and I did get a gin & soda instead.  Still, 3 out of 4 drinks incorrect AND a scary bartender? Not my kind of place.

Did I mention that the only music in the bar were the tunes my friend paid to put on from the jukebox?  Who likes a silent bar?

Anyway, we went to King Yum this past Friday instead of Sly Fox--I recommend it to all of you!

Went to Sly Fox with my ma and sister the other day for a quick lunch. I ordered the grilled chicken on semolina, my sister had the turkey burger and my ma a regular burger. All came with fries, slaw and a pickle and all were ehhh. The chicken on my sandwich was a bit dry and the bread overtook the sandwich. The fries were perfect all around and the slaw was not the best I've ever had by a long shot. The turkey burger didn't look appetizing but my sister said it was good although it and the regular burger did not come with lettuce and tomato. Lettuce and tomato should come with every burger in my opinion, no extra charge.
The service was annoying. We sat right away which was great and out food came out quick but we could hear our waitress singing along to the radio around the dining room. She also checked up on us too much!
I will be going elsewhere for lunch from now on. The meal was around $35 for three of us,

I came in here on a Friday afternoon around 3 ish. I just got out of class and my friend and I were starving. She used to work here and has been wanting to stop back in for a while...so of course I agreed to go. All she had to say was "Catfish sticks" and I already decided on how much tip I was giving and everything (granted it was tasty).

We didn't park in their tiny little parking lot because..well..it's tiny! We parked on that block though. There was actually plenty of parking on the block, which I didn't expect considering students from stj with out a parking permit would be lined all up and down the street. I guess not though.

Anyways, walked right in. No wait time or anything. Better not be. It's friggin 3 pm! The hostess was a very nice older woman, who knows my friend personally. They chatted and that lady did her best to keep me involved in their convo. She was the sweetest thing. The bar section is to the left..we went to the right.

We were offered a booth or a cute table for two by the fire place. You KNOW I took the fire place spot! It was so romantic I had to remind my friend that she was NOT to be reaching across the table trying to hold my hand and what not!

Our waitress was very sweet. Only been working there for about a month and she was open to all the suggestions and pointless stories my friend shared with her of the Sly Fox Inn of the olden days (last year). I felt so bad for that girl, listening to her go on and on about how they used to do. lol Everything was all good though. She brought us the lunch menu with quite a few selections on it. Everything sounded very tasty.

I got the Cat fish sticks, of course, with fries and a sprite. My friend had a hybrid of the bbq burger and the patty melt with half onion rings and half fries and a ginger ale with cranberry juice. That girl is complex! lol She later added mushrooms and the waitress was a perfect angel about the funny requests.

The cat fish sticks. what!? So crunchy on the outside yet moist and succulent on the inside. They were delicious and perfect. They came with some tasty sauce and of course I asked for a little cup of buffalo sauce. YUMMY! The fries were a little soggy..but who cares!? They're fries. I would have ate them as a cold regular potato..complete with eyes and strings coming all of out it.

All together the bill came up to $27 including tax. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and the place was spot less.

I was kind of sad I had never come in here before considering this is my fourth year at st. john's and it's right here!

We had a great time and I'll surely be back.

Did you ever feel too young to be somewhere, like you are out of place? Well that is how I felt with my group of young 20-something friends when we came here for a birthday celebration. We had dinner first which was okay, there was a mix of all ages in the dining area. Somehow I was skipped over when the waitress was taking our orders and then she never came back to me and I had to flag her down in order to place an order. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and it was pretty bland with barely any flavoring to the chicken. Their fries were standard, nothing about the food would make me want to come back.
This is where it gets weird, when we were all finished eating and paid the bill we made our way over to the bar area which is in a separate room from the dining area. It was filled with older people partying to current Top 40 hits. Never have I seen that many women in their 60's dressed in skimpy dresses and sparkly tops shaking what their mama's gave them (many years ago!). We went to the bar to order drinks and immediately got dirty looks from the people there. They were looking at us like how dare they come in here. Two women were actually standing across from me and three of my friends pointing at us obviously talking about us. Some of my friends and I attempted to hit the dance floor for a little while but felt really awkward. There is a big mirror on the back wall and some woman kept dancing in front of it staring at herself pulling up her dress, some man kept spinning on the dance floor looking like a little kid trying to make himself dizzy, there was a couple salsa dancing to an Usher song, oh so many things that I have never seen before. Needless to say we left after about a half hour and moved onto somewhere more age appropriate. Please come here if you want to feel very awkward or have a good laugh, don't come to party or have any good food though!

In my youth I passed by this place countless times on my BMX wondering WTH was an "inn". I always thought it was quite shady looking but once I stepped in my exact words were, "that's it?".

I was there for a baby shower where brunch was served with Angie I. and needless to say along with the anti-climatic interior the food was less than impressive.

What a waste of childhood curiousity...

So for the longest time I thought the Sly Fox Inn was a fancy restaurant because the front looked so nice. But I was so surprised that it was just a bar! The decor is lacking and it was dark. The food was ok and our waiter was nice. Probably would not go back again... The only good thing was the dessert.

Only reason for one star is because I had to put something. My first visit to this place was horrible. Took some potential business associates there and the atmosphere was very unwelcoming. Our waiter had a horrible attitude and actually tried to initiate an argument. It ended with him throwing the bill on our table almost knocking over our drinks. Never again, stay away from this place if you enjoy good service and a welcome environment without the facade of an upscale establishment.

Used to be reallly amazing until they took the Blackened Cajun Catfish off the menu. Why on earth would they do that? I LOVED that dish.

Not bad food though. Burgers, patty melt and shrimp scampi are good. Nachos are tasty too and free snacks and sometimes buffet during Happy Hour. Friendly service and has a homely, happy feel to the place.

I was a bit cautious about this place after a lot of mediocre reviews here on Yelp, but I had a pretty decent lunch here.

Our waitress was very courteous. The atmosphere was very inn/pub-ish with the low lighting and the wooden decor. We got seated next to the defunct fireplace with a really antiquated cauldron.

    1. Nachos Grande - definitely way too salty. And not enough cheese. Definitely not the best dish. Not get it again.

    2. Shepherd's Pie - Pretty good. Mash Potatoes was very smooth. Beef was ground well, but the taste was uneventfully disappointing. This is their customers favorite though, so it's most likely a taste of comfort that I'm not used to.

I guess the atmosphere made me expected something more when it's just a comforting average pub fare.

I would never go here if it weren't for the fact that most of my Queens friends go to SJU law. I even like to avoid it otherwise. The good part is their french onion soup is quite, quite tasty, The bad part is everything else.

The rest of the food is quite, quite terrible and the drinks are overpriced. It's like paying the same prices as a Manhattan club in a Queens pseudo-dive. Plus, one of the bartenders told me she would buy my next round and then she ignored me for the rest of the night. I'll admit, I was surprised to hear that because they NEVER buy back rounds at Sly Fox but it was a really exciting moment for me that was quickly slammed into the ground.

Overall, I drink here because I have to, not because I want to. They don't even have nudie photo hunt on their game machine! Only regular photo hunt!

WOW...reading these reviews doesn't really surprise me but I thought Sly Fox Inn would have some positive reviews...but I know why they dont.

I walked into the Sly Fox Inn on a Friday night to see what its all about, I was already partying at Iguanas down the block, but wanted to get another scene.

After looking in the window, the place looked like it was all upscale and snobbish, EVERYONE INSIDE LOOKED LATE 40's EARLY 50's.  But my friend and I said hey, lets check it out.

After walking in the door a SEVENTY SOMETHING YEAR OLD (70!!!) stopped me and asked me for a $5 cover.  HOLD UP---this is a restaurant, IN QUEENS, asking me for a cover?!?  I don't even pay a cover in manhattan where I go.  But the icing on the cake was that a 70 year old was asking me for it, thats not going to get me to pay it.  Im in my early 20's, I want to see someone anywhere around my age asking for money and I would consider.

The 70 year old "bouncer" wouldnt even let me look inside at the crowd, so I was like Thanks but absolutely no thanks, I'll go to Iguanas and continue to enjoy myself there, free, and fun.

Listen, I don't have a problem with a place charging cover (actually in Queens I do have a problem with it) but its the way you go about it.  A 70 year old asking for a cover when the place is a block away from a college...they should know better.

They ended up losing out on that night (and probably many nights in the future) of my group of at least 6 friends (figure everyone spends $40 or more on drinks a night) for a $5 cover charge.

They do it all wrong.  A block down from a college, they should know better.  Shame on you "SLY FOX INN" shame on you

You're OUT OF YOUR MIND if you're going to the Sly Fox for its bar service, or it's restaurant service, or its culinary experience of somewhat-inspired-but-really-only-have-a-menu-of-typical-bar-fare-because-you-know-we-are-a-bar-and-have-to-keep-up-appearences.  But seriously, there's NO WHERE ELSE TO GO on Union Turnpike for any sort of bar or bar-like place, especially one that is in walking distance of St. John's and is a r-r-reputable establishment that makes sure no co-ed youngins' stumble on in and taint the d-d-dignified aire.

For every imaginable, and unimaginable reason, you'll never have any sort of inclination to go to the Sly Fox unless you know someone who works there.  It's a pretty exclusive group.  The Sly Fox Inn however, is the best place on earth when they hold their once-a-month speed-dating night.  Granted, speed-dating only caters to the older crowd, but when they open up the dance floor in the bar area after the speed-dating has concluded, you better watch out as those sexy, older, single ladies KNEE POP and BOOTY DROP!

Sometimes you just want to DANCE and once-a-month your wish, young ephebe, is granted!

Things I've had: the french onion soup, calamari appetizer, spinach artichoke dip appetizer, fried zucchini sticks appetizer, and my favorite, the PEPPER JACK JALAPENO CHEESE BURGER. It comes with red onions, a fat patty, lettuce, tomatoes, and a nicely toasted sesame seed bun. If you add sauteed mushrooms and extra jalapenos and tabasco, it's PERFECT. The burger is pretty big, and though I can hold my own when I eat, I usually have an appetizer beforehand, so I'm only able to handle half the burger and half the fries (which are also good - perfectly fried and big!). Which is fine by me, because then I get to take it home for later.

Would have gotten 4 stars for the food, but the waitresses always take FOREVER, so I had to take a star away. And I'm not sorry.

Restaurant half alone, it is a nice place. The waitress was very attentive, but it was pretty empty as we went during an off-time. The food was good, but nothing excessively special. I was a little disappointed by the menu's selection, but I guess that comes from the "American" genre of food. I just didn't feel like any option was particularly intriguing or creative. I want to give a thumbs-up to minimuffins in the breadbasket, but they were a bit stale and grainy. The entrees come with salads (a suprise I enjoyed) but they were standard.

I wouldn't mind going there again, but with a selection of new york's, it might be a few decades before I make it back around. If you're at st.john's everyday, not a terrible place.

This is the daily hang out for for SJU law students.  I'm not with the crazy drinking crowd so I've only been here once after my first year...not too crazy about it and nothing special.  It's only "famous" because it's the "go to bar" for the law students.

Though they had some kind of weird dress code on the weekends??  Can anyone confirm this??  My fiance (who has been there before, we're both law students), wanted to take his god brother there just to have a drink and the person at the door refused them claiming that there is a "dress code" (they were dressed casually, jeans and sneakers)...meanwhile they let some biker dude in?  Strange dress code.

Uh...last I went, I looked like a zombie hobo after taking a 3 hour final and we were all drinking our exam sorrows away (and in casual clothing)...so don't know what was up with the dress code thing

** Wouldn't recommend if you are not a law student, unless you want to hear annoying law students either 1 - whine about their life or 2 - brag about their life

We came in here on Friday night for a relaxed drink and a bit of food. Decor was standard dark pub. Because the bar was crowded with a mix of middle-aged people and SJU students, we ordered beers and took them to the booths in the back.

Our warning sign should have been the dance floor in the back next to the tables, but since nothing was happening, we sat down. We ordered mozzarella sticks and shepherd's pie and settled in.

Then: the dance lights snapped on, the speakers started thumping, and an older couple shimmied onto the dance floor. We had to scream face-to-face with our noses practically touching to carry on our conversation. Fun, right?

We couldn't even get out quickly because our waitress was nowhere to be found and no one else would give us the check. Finally given our bill, we paid and thankfully spilled out into the cold night, where we could hear our own thoughts.

4 stars for the more interesting than usual beer selection on tap.
3 stars for the decent food. Unexciting, but cheap. The shepherd's pie was under $8 and was satisfactorily filling.
2 stars for the service. We were sitting for a while before we were even given menus and our waitress disappeared for half the meal.

And 0 stars for the dance floor. Yes, I understand, Friday night and people like to dance. But there was only one couple out on the dance floor who stopped after a short while, and no one even made motions toward stepping on. If you like dancing, then substitute 5 stars here instead.

Also note the bathroom doors do not lock. Just throwing that out there.

I came here on a week night. The bar was taken over by middle-aged men, so we decided to sit at a table. The waitress was attentive and great with the recommendations. We ordered calamari, which was good but nothing special. The appetizer combo platter consists of buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, zucchini sticks, and different sauces on the side. They were under 10 bucks, which I thought was a pretty good deal. The four of us had 1-2 drinks each, plus an entree and the appetizers, came out to $75. Woohoo!

Not a great party crowd, but nice for a group hangout.

Never had food there, but the drinks were expensive for the neighborhhod, bartenders were slow, and the crowd was a weird mix or older men, middle aged singles, and SJU law students who the singles hit on. Kind of an uncomfortable place in my opinion

Then again, maybe the food is great

I spent New Years Eve there with my wife's family. What a waste of time and money. I've been to many restaurants in my life, but this one mirage of high quality went into the toilet right away.
The ambiance was nice; there was no crowd to fight with that night to get a seat, although I felt like I was in a geriatric center, not for the 30 to 40 crowd.
The food was prepared and plated nice, but it was all frozen and thawed. My wife ordered the shrimp cocktail and I had the crab cakes. Every shrimp was lined either with doo-doo or a vein hanging out. Also their were two menus to order from, but there were the same meal and appetizers on either with different prices, go figure. So we ordered from the cheaper menu. My crap cakes were about the size of a half dollar, over cooked and dry with some crappy sauce that was horrible. I canceled my entre at this point.
Beware of this restaurant if you have a stomach of bowel issues. Everything is fried or canned. You will suffer.
But the table salt was good.

I didn't frequent this place during my years at SJU, but I will say this - each time was.... well, mediocre.

It wasn't bad (except the extremely salty french onion soup that I never repeated ordering) - but it wasn't good.  I recall the happy hours being pretty good times.  I love their cheesy nachos - yum!

One thing to note: Each time I was there, the crowd was not so much young SJU, but more middle-aged (if not older) folks having a good time.

Oh, and I always saw the huge sign on the outside reading, "Speed dating every Thursday night."  I'm just putting it out there - in case anyone is feeling completely lonely....

i was SHOCKED when i googled this place to get the phone number and it showed up as being on yelp. this is across from SJU, where i went to college, and I didn't know anyone outside of the neighborhood ever went there.

decent food, good brunch choices, big sju law school crowd for happy hours. get the burger with extra frizzled onions. we've had lots of large parties here and they are pretty good at that.

This place seemed like a decent bar, when I went there was a good group of regulars surrounding the bar, and smoking outside through the open air doors from the bar.

The TV's are not angled well at all for viewing from the bar, on the plus side they do have a jukebox and a couple of games.

Bartender was good, although my Jack Daniels tasted a little funky.

Menu is not extensive, but gets the job done. My bacon cheeseburger hit the spot. Entrees seemed a little pricy.

All-in-all this seems to be an above average bar, but not much more. I will revisit to see if things get better when their dance floor heats up.
