Friday happy hour is great! We didn't stay for the music but we did enjoy going out and trying a new place. Other customers were friendly and you can tell there some regulars who were all chummy with each other. Bartender was awesome.

My husband liked his margarita. I would skip the house wine with the happy hour price and either go for the margarita or pay normal price for a nicer glass of wine or cocktail.

Coconut shrimp- fresh and good.
Calamari- okay.
Beef sliders- awesome.
Pizzas- really tasty but thick crusted and reminds me of focaccia bread.
Tacos- delicious

We were in town for a long weekend and heard that the Heartless bastards were playing here. We showed up without tickets and had a few drinks before enoying the show. I really liked it here. While it is certainly not fancy it was a fun place with a really nice, mature crowd.

I have had better experiences at Soho... Went yesterday at 1pm to listen to a friend of a friend. 1pm! Nobody charges a cover at 1pm right? Wrong! $20 per person to listen to the Cuesta College Night Jazz band. Ok they were pretty good for a community college band, but seriously! $20?

Ordered a french dip sandwich, I think they called it a New York Steak french dip but it looked like overcooked roast beast to me. I was underwhelmed. The bread was your basic wonderbread roll, nothing fancy just soft and soggy. It was naked on the plate except for some french fries. Looked like it was in serious need of at least a tiny bit of garnish for asthetic reasons if nothing else. Maybe something green for St Paddy's!

The show was a little boring and the solos were much too long for the quality of musicians in the band. I started playing with my phone and checked in on Yelp. Surprise, surprise! I got a two for one meal coupon! That is the reason they are getting three stars instead of two! Bribery works folks and YES you can pay me off to get a better Yelp review! I noticed on my phone that one of my friends was checking in at Gainey Winery in the valley! I was jealous! And she was getting comped two free tastings for checking in! Looking forwward to her review.

Like I said at the beginning of the review, I have had better experiences at this place. Much better entertainment at much lower covers!

Many of my friends' bands play here. It's a great atmosphere with more intimate feel.

A friend and I went to SoHo Friday to see Shawn Mullins and it was a great experience. The concert was really good with a very intimate setting and good acoustics. There were quite a few people but they had it very well organized. Good selection of wine and my salmon and my friends fillet were really very tasty. The people attending the venue were just great and really enjoyed the music and interacting with the people around us. A real positive experience plus he has quite a great fan base.

I feel indifferent about this place. Big heads up, if you actually want to see the artist that's playing, reserve a seat. They don't tell you this until you actually get there. There was nothing on the website or ticket website about reserving seats. The setup is kinda weird, the bar cuts off half of the view of the stage. My sister bought shots for the singer and the bartender ended up charging her 3 times for it, without telling her. It's pretty much standing room only so get there a bit early.

The food and service was great, but the vibe of this place makes you feel like it was put together overnight. Had some punk bands playing when we went, not really my cup of tea. This place is in the perfect spot, with a little bit of love could be awesome.

Such a neat little venue! We had not gone to see live music in a little while, so that might have added to our satisfaction for our evening, but I assure you that I can be objective nonetheless.

We were forced against our collective will to travel to Santa Barbara for a meeting, so we decided to make a weekend out of it. Damn, I hate that! 300 miles round trip - just to be in Santa Barbara for six hours. Ridiculous.

Ridiculously lucky, actually. I looked in the SBA New Times to see what acts might be playing and I chose this one (not important to my review; I choose to omit). She's a well-known Santa Barbara native, and has been in a number of movies as a marginal villainess or drug addict. Her music is folksy, but edgy, and she has a message. Don't they all? Anyway, the lead act is this gal's best friend, and someone I've heard before in the voiceover business, so I thought that I would give her act a try - regardless of the restaurant.

We called and made a reservation for dinner. Then I looked at http://restaurant.com and they had a coupon. I purchased the most expensive one so that we effectively get a free bottle of wine. Neat, huh?

We parked right behind their building; the establishment is upstairs - not really where you'd expect it. They collected a cover charge, saw our dinner reservation, and sat us two tables from stage left with an unobstructed view.

Our youngish waiter was pleasant. He didn't flinch at the coupon I presented. We chose a bottle of wine and had a look at the menu. It's not too bad for a primarily music venue. A surprisingly wide selection. They feature organic and local ingredients - a nice touch. I choose the Shrimp Scampi, while my gal had the Filet Mignon.

I am going to say that the cooking was competent. Portions were reasonable. Nothing that would give you a coma. The price was right for what we got, and we both finished our entrees. We declined dessert, because by that time, the first act started.

The space is intimate, but not cramped. There's a bar area around from where we were seated, but I could not tell that they were there. Sound was great - not overpowering. The main act had quite a following (perhaps half the room?), and the space was filled with their energy - which would come and get us once in a while. We sipped the rest of our wine over the next hour or so and had a really good time for $85. I'm sure that you will, too.

I wasn't a huge fan of the place for the first ten minutes. The cover was a little steep for the music and the drink prices seemed steepish as well for the actual atmosphere.
Before long, though, I got into some conversations about local beers and stuff with another customer and bartender Ari. Things turned around immediately. Ari gave a real neighborhood feel to the place even though I was only passing through. he is attentive and I noticed that he took very good care of all of the customers.
I will return the next time that I am in SB. Thanks for the great service, Ari! Keep rocking that crazy tourist town.

I ate there a year and half ago on a road trip with my dad and best friend. We just randomly picked it on our way through town, not knowing much about it. By the end of the evening we had enjoyed an AWESOME live show, and had some fabulous food. I am a Vegetarian, and I had this stacked potato, eggplant, cheese entree ( with other vegetables also) and it was so awesome, I still remember how good it tasted! :) I want to go there again when I am in that area :D

The boy&I came here for Ben Howard's concert, and it was awesomeee! We arrived a bit early and just hung out, and we stood right in front of the stage. The boy ordered his Old Fashioned, and got me a pina colada. The drinks were suuuper strong; he sai there was no juice put into my pina colada at all. [I couldn't finish it, so I gave it to him to finish :X]. The concert itself was awesome. The people were super chill too; no annoying drunkards :)

It was a really cool venue, and we had a great time! If another artist I liked was performing here, I'd definitely come back!

I have had some great moments at SoHo, and even though they have been sporadic, they have been amazing. I first came into SoHo in 2009 when I saw Devendra Banhart. It is a very intimate and small venue, and you feel at one and connected to the artists who are performing. I next came back due to their friendly atmosphere and their amazing bar. The place is filled with hipsters but it is fun regardless. I think came again in 2012 to watch Little Indian and John C. Reilly's band perform. Great venue and very friendly staff. I was drunk and I felt that I didn't spend that much! Yay!

I don't understand what was wrong with me on Saturday night, did my waitress just not like me? am I just ugly? Or do I really like paying 8.50 for a drink and not getting it. Anyways, the service here is terrible. if you do go for the music, order your drinks from the bar.

I've never felt compelled to write a review for a place but my experience with Soho was so great, I had to do it.

I live in Los Angeles. l found out a a NorCal band that rarely makes it to SoCal was going to be playing at Soho on a Friday night. After sharing the news with a few friends, we arranged to carpool from LA to Santa Barbara for a night of music and dancing.

I called Soho a couple of weeks ahead of time to make a reservation. "Louis" answered the phone, took my reservation and could not have been nicer. He patiently and pleasantly answered all my questions (of which I had plenty). When I told him my group was there for the band and we were swing dancers, Louis quickly offered to reserve a table near the stage - I didn't even have to ask!

Eek! We didn't realize until the last minute that we were heading up at the start of the Presidents' Day weekend. Even though we left early, we were still a long way's away at 10 minutes to 5PM (our reservation time). I called Soho and Louis answered. When I explained we were stuck in traffic and might not make it until 6PM, he responded - ever so graciously - that he knew it was bad out there and since we called, he would hold our table.

We made it to Soho right at 6 and the place was already packed (the band started at 5:30). After waiting less than a minute, someone ran up to the host's desk and, lo and behold, it was Louis, who greeted me like I was an old friend! He had a GREAT table waiting for us and we immediately knew it was going to be a fun night. Loved the energy in the room!

Now, for those of you that don't know, Swing Dancers are the absolutely nicest people you will ever meet ... but also the CHEAPEST. Among our group of six, two sets of two opted to split an entree, no one ordered anything expensive and very little alcohol was consumed. One friend who lives in SB showed up late and only had water. Our waitress was super nice and treated us with as much attention and courtesy as if we were ordering the most expensive dishes and lots of hooch. Even though our tab wasn't high, I tried to make sure that her tip reflected her level of service.

What else to say about Soho: Great ambiance. It's a great space - long and narrow with the restaurant and stage at one end and the bar at the back end. GREAT service - everyone there had such a great attitude the entire night. Can't say enough good things about the staff. The energy is awesome - at least on the night we went, people were clearly there to have a good time. The food was quite good. My only complaint was some dishes were a bit oversalted, though not inedibly so - seriously, if it wasn't for that, it was a perfect night. We didn't try the drinks (swing dancing and alcohol don't mix, unless you plan on dancing on your keister) but on a repeat visit, I'd like to check them out.

If I lived in SB, I'd be a regular. Since I'm not, I just need to make sure I keep checking their calendar so I can make up more excuses to head up ... it's only 180 miles roundtrip, after all ;).

What a wonderful night! I brought my 14yo daughter to see Rachael Yamagata on 11/26/11. Even though, I have visited SB many times, I had never been to this venue, in fact, I didn't even know it was there! Nestled at the top of an older building right on State St, Soho is kind of hidden. But there was plenty of parking so that was not an issue at all.

We had reserved seats for the show and dinner, and to my surprise, we were right in front! (You reserve seats but they make the seating arrangement.) Rachael was absolutely amazing and I could go on and on about her, but this is supposed to be a venue review, so I'll leave it at that. (I put a couple videos on Youtube, so you can see her and get a feel for how close and intimate this venue really is.)

The service was decent. A little slow but not because our server was lazy, just because it is kind of difficult to maneuver around the tables and they could really use more staff for dinner shows. That is my only complaint.

The sound quality was awesome. There are no bad seats in this place. It's very small and I would guess it holds about 75-100 people for a dinner show. An after hours show holds probably triple that.

Our food was delicious. I had the butternut squash ravioli and a kale salad and my daughter had the pesto pizza. I don't drink alcohol or eat meat so I can't comment on those items but our food was hot and quite quick to the table.

Also, in my opinion, the price was DIRT cheap! $15 dollars/ticket with an agreement to spend a minimum $15/person on food and drinks.

I would absolutely come back for another show.

Had a great time dancing at their salsa night. Music was good, lots of space to move but the bartenders could work a little faster. It took me way too long to get a beer. also, inattentive staff, maybe it was just busy but there was a spill on the floor that wasn't cleaned up for a good 20 minutes. Very dangerous.

Overall, SoHO is always a good spot for some decent live music and drinks but only if you can afford it.

I knew I was in Santa Barbara when a person working the line said, "Yea, we're about to let people in. Are you meditating?"

I drove from LA to get up close and personal with Dawes and inadvertently, The Smoking Fairies. But back to Dawes, it was amazing!

Beer. Food. Great music experience!

I've been to Soho many times... each and every time, to see Glen Phillips (the most amazing artist on the planet, BTW). I absolutely love this venue! For the most intimate shows, great food, excellent service and the most awesome "date night," you MUST visit Soho. The ambiance feels as if you're in Manhattan and the artwork inside changes up with local variety. It feels just a little bit different every time, but always cozy and delightful. Take a date, to make a memorable evening!

I have just returned from spending the evening at the SoHo house, for dinner and then the Old 97's concert.

The evening started weird, with the venue running late. We had 7pm reservations for dinner, but didn't get inside until around seven thirty. I didn't catch his name, but the guy at the door was extremely nice and made sure that we were taken care of. He checked up on us more than once during the evening. I am not positive, but I suspect that he was the manager. He really went out of his way to make sure that we were happy.

Food- I loved my meal. I had the rare ahi with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My friends and boyfriend all seemed happy with their meals- a french dip, beef stroganoff and a vegetarian dish that I can't remember. The mixed drinks were strong and good. I also think the prices were reasonable for what we were given.

Service- I think that our server was named Amy and she was great,. Very friendly and helpful. She checked back frequently and made sure that we always had drinks. In general the staff was great.

Concert- A small venue. I loved being right up front, but if you don't make sure that you get close to the stage, you might had a hard time seeing. The sound quality was good. It was cool having the band mingle with the crowd prior to the show.

Parking is in a lot in the back. By the time we left, the attendant was gone and we didn't have to pay!

I drove 120 miles to this venue only to find out the show had been sold out. I wasn't going to turn around and go home after that trek to see The Chris Robinson Brotherhood. I hung around and asked the staff if they would allow me to go in after a few people left. They said yes. Kudos for that. I didn't eat there, so I can't write about the food.

The customer service is awesome. The bartenders attentive, even though it was wall to wall people. To be completely filled to capacity on a Tuesday during the recession says something, doesn't it?

I like the stage setup. It's very intimate. When the band gets in the groove, the floor starts to flex much like the infamous Filmore in San Francisco. Overall I had a really good experience at this venue. Lots of friendly peeps, not at all pretentious as I have become accustomed to living in the Los Angeles area. Makes me want to go back home to Ventura County where I grew up.))

This is a great place to see an awesome show and The Chris Robinson Brotherhood absolutely rocked the room! Driving up from LA I got there early for the last show and had some dinner while I was waiting for the band to start. While the food was overpriced it was quite tasty! I love the indoor/outdoor floor plan they have as well, it's super easy to step out for some fresh air.
The main downside? This place was impossible to find the first time I went! I didn't realize it was upstairs & behind the main drag so I was almost late for the show! At least I can find it now, and just in time for another Chris Robinson Brotherhood show :)

Best local venue for live music in town!

Because of its popularity it can take a good minute to get a drink. But the bartenders are really nice the security is super chill and the sound guy mark is on point! i have been coming to soho for years and i have seen some incredible performences i am soo grateful for this spot bringing international talent to our sleepy town.

Great place for Music! Sucky place for food! Cover charge, parking fee, food and drinks equal no more money in thee wallet!
Food is not that thrilling... I ordered the BBQ Pizza. Tastes like its frozen pizza with a bad after taste.
I drove 2 hours up from LA to try Soho for the first time for a radio station holiday event party. Other then the show and music, the food and service was way mediocre! Service was horrible. Food took about an hour to be served. Food and drinks prices were sky high! But I do love how they have seatings and tables right near the stage!
4 stars for the Venue
2 stars for the food
1 star for the lousy service.

The Venue is very enjoyable though. It's hidden on the second level, on State Street next to McDonald's. When is the next time I will be coming here. I guess it depends on who is performing and not what they are serving.

I strongly dislike this place to the point that if I find out a good band (or even one of my friends) is playing here, I will stop and think "but do I want to give Soho any money?"

The food itself is a bit lame. Not 'lame' like socal surfer-speak, 'lame' as in hobbled, slowed, incapable of movement or action. I... I've eaten here 3-5 times and truly can't even remember what I ate. I remember pretty ok coconut shrimp that were probably frozen, and fries... and they do that obnoxious thing where the only vegetarian thing they're intelligent/creative enough to offer is a stir-fry.

The service is the really appalling part. I wanted to order a round of desserts for my table one visit but we hadnt seen our server in about 30 minutes. I personally could have ordered and put away another 2 or 3 cocktails in that time that I did without, too, same with my dining buddies. I finally walked to the bar to attempt to order our desserts and some drinks there and was just straight up ignored for another 15 minutes. The bar was not even very busy, and the bartender didn't even acknowledge my presence. I returned to the table feeling frustrated and paranoid that I was ugly or something. I'd estimate that if we'd had better service that night our bill (for 5 people) would have been at least $100 more. Is this place so popular and successful that they can afford to let money like that just walk away?

One star for having Firestone on tap. One more star for booking Juana Molina. That's where my appreciation ends.

I've seen two shows here so far and I'm not impressed. The set-up is bizarre...there's really not a comfortable/convenient place to hang out without feeling squished or having a crappy view. Drinks were average and the food is mediocre.

I don't get it. Maybe everyone likes it because it's one of few places to see shows in the area?

I attended a concert held at Soho Restaurant and Music Club the other night and was very disappointed at the way the management handled the situation at hand. She approached my sister and I in an unprofessional matter and with anger told us that we were being too loud. First off, she didn't ask to hear our side and being a paying customer, I would have thought to be approached differently as I am supporting this business. I did not appreciate her and she definitely caused a night of celebration of a family members' passing who enjoyed this artist to be terrible.

I wont ever be attending concerts held here again and I don't recommend coming here either. I hope you take this seriously and take into consideration before you pay money to attend concerts held here. Thank you

I have to give Soho 2 stars because the venue is an excellent spot for bands, but the food... oh my lawd - the food was, for lack of a better word... shit.

I should first say that if Soho has a resident sound engineer, he/she is fantastic. I used t be in the music industry and can spot a good sound engineer right away... bravo Soho for that. I can only rave about the venue for its music.

HOWEVER, my husband and I first reserved a table to have dinner before a show yesterday. Upon viewing the menu online, the restaurant looked promising and I was excited to try it out.

The prices are decent and we both ordered NY steaks, which at around $18 a pop, is cheap. When the food came out and I bit into everything, it hit me... BLECH.

The veggies were definitely steamed in the microwave, the potatoes were flavorless and the steak was nothing to jump for joy about... oh, I should probably say that aside from being in the music industry, I was also in the restaurant business for 9 years.

If that steak was served with some butter sauteed veggies and the potatoes had more flavor, that dish would have had a chance. It would have been nicer to see better presentation as well and investment on nicer dinner plates would probably be a good idea. Until then, it looked and tasted like cafeteria food. If I wasn't so darn hungry, I wouldn't have finished my plate, but... well, I did.

On a positive note, the lemon/pistacio dressing was absolutely DIVINE!

Overall, a great venue for entertainment and drink, but lacks the quality to be properly called a good restaurant.

Sometimes i find myself in need of a mini vacation.
Sometimes i want to rock.
When those times combine, it calls for a trip to one of my new favorite venues, Soho.

The bartenders have always taken great care of me - with drinks and the occasional tasty snack. The venue is small but packs in enough guests to really get the place rolling. I always buy my tickets online, that way i pass up the line that forms outside and make my way straight into the place hassle-free. If a band you like is playing here, don't hesitate to make the trip to see them at this awesome, intimate venue.

Despite what many may think, SOHO is an AMAZING venue.

Great place for intimate shows! You don't get sweaty people rubbing up on you while you're trying to dance, people bumping into your elbow causing you to spill your drink on the sweaty beast in front of you, or the random moocher who wants to puff away or sip sip your drink. Lovely place to let loose and even catch a bite to eat.

The food is kinda pricey for the lack of taste/quality that each dish had. We got an artichoke appetizer, Soho Pizza, and a Cajun chicken sandwich with a Stella and 2 Shots of JD (which cost me $17!): everything cost roughly $62.

The service was meh, nothing special, except for our busser Todd! MUSTACHE MAAANNNN! You'll know him when you see him!

Otherwise I just like this place for the shows!

I went here on Valentines Day weekend with my boyfriend, as I remembered it to be a cute, fun place when I attended college at UCSB.

We were able to make a reservation and were promptly seated when we arrived-which is always nice. We ordered some delicious drinks (the long island is always a winner) and the pot sticker appetizer-which we were surprised didn't come with chop sticks, but was very tasty nonetheless.

For dinner, he ordered a boar shank: a hunk of meat designed for the manly man that he is, served with potatoes and fresh veggies galore-talk about a feast! I ordered the Ahi-which left much to be desired. If not for the gravy it comes smothered in, there would have been absolutely no taste to the fish whatsoever! As a lover of Ahi, I was extremely disappointed in my selection and picked off my boyfriends plate instead.

Saw soja, rebelution, john browns body, boombox orchestra, and a few others there. Very intimate some small tables in the back by the bar. The patio area is really open and confortable. Met some of the coolest people i know at soho.

For me, I've never been to a show where you watch the performance while eating your dinner. At least not in the setting that Soho offers. Me and a couple friends went out to see Priscilla Ahn and Robert Francis play.

It's a tiny little place seating maybe 50-60 people max. The benefit of that is that the performances get really intimate. There isn't a bad seat in the house. We got a great view in the middle. And because of the low amount of people, you don't feel claustrophobic that some might have a problem with. And you get to talk to the artists that perform as well!

Food is not bad at all. I had the Seared Ahi Tuna with Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables. Very very good. And if you're a burger fan, those bad boys are HUGE. Although the my friend was saying it was a bit on the greasy side.

One thing I could nit pick is the service. It might be a little difficult to call your server due to the amount of tables and the number of staff on hand. But they don't forget to check on you periodically to see how you are doing.

This is definitely a little gem in Santa Barbara that needs to be checked out. I felt extremely comfortable and was able to relax and sink in and enjoy the performance. Both Robert Francis and Priscilla Ahn were great! So if you see your favorite artists playing here, I highly recommend you catch their show here.

We just happened across this place on a Friday night when we heard live music wafting down the stairs. It sounded good enough so we decided to check it out. It was a cool local band (Badlands I think?) with a bluesy sounding chick singer. We hung out and had a couple of drinks before heading back to our room. It was a great end to the night.

I spent New Years Eve at Soho with Smiley, Michigan and the Kingston 13 (reggae artists) and it was fabulous. This was not my first time to Soho, but certainly my best visit ever! The cover was $25, which got you in the door for less $$ than most other clubs downtown. The cover also included a champagne toast at midnight - which they actually managed to get to everyone in time!

Their food isn't my favorite as it's over-priced and forgettable, but they sure put on good shows! I've seen the Sting Quartet here, Glenn Phillips from Toad the Wet Sprocket and now Michigan and Smiley! Normally they'll take dinner reservations on nights they've got shows, and offer you a discounted cover for the show.

5 stars for their shows, 3 stars for the food = 4 stars

Word is this is the best live music venue in Santa Barbara. I experienced it for myself this past saturday at the Halloween/Punk Rock Karaoke/Costume Contest/Nerf Herder show. Very fun vibe, lively costumes, and engaging staff. $7.50 for a grey goose chocolate martini plus $10 cover is pretty reasonable for a night out with so much to offer.

The space is really big considering it's hidden in Victoria Court - there's two main rooms and an outdoor patio plus more I didn't see. Extra thoughtful items on their part - big screens in the back of the bar allow you to watch what's going on onstage while you're getting a drink, chilling at a table, or just taking a break from the crowd. Also, the bathroom is centrally located & right by the entrance

I hit it up with a friend of mine (she needed a night out) and we ended up spending over $100: not a cheap place.

But boy was it worthwhile! Live music, good food, and great drinks. it didn't seem like a regular place for the younger crowd (prolly 'cause it was so expensive) but it was a lot of fun!

And the Pink Martini made the evening.
