Ate there last night with a friend, on the patio. Service was good. We both felt the food was, well, blah. Ordered a couple of their specials of the day, a pork taco tapas which, while ok, was without spice. Also a vegetable plate with a honey mustard sauce. The mustard overwhelmed the small portion of asparagus, mushroom, and zucchini. The Greek salad was ok, but not noteworthy. Lastly, and somewhat sinfully, we ordered the potato chips with bleu cheese. The chips had a good crunch, but something was missing. It was salt. Maybe they were worried about our blood pressure? ;)
Music was much too loud inside; tolerable on the patio.
This place wasn't that large (to my surprise), but it did have outdoor seating. There are varieties of food to choose from.
I had the fried goat cheese (pretty delicious--didn't like the honey that was spread on the plate though). The goat and beef gyro flat bread was pretty okay. My friend had a pizza. It wasn't the best in the world, but was pretty tasty.
There seems to be a weekly drink special going on so it's a nice place to chill. The drink wasn't superb, but I'd give them a second try. The atmosphere was dim and cozy. The scene had couples and large groups enjoying the evening. There wasn't many folks out and about when I was there around 9 PM ish on a Friday night.
Service was attentive. I would recommend this place.
The corner of Haynes Bridge and North Point is seriously some prime property. Â Enough traffic goes through that any place that sits on that corner will get business- it's just one of those things. Â So when Eastside Mario's (RIP) opened here- it was one of my favorite Italian spots of all time- and then management choked. Â IT was then replaced by Joe's Crab Shack- which was awesome too- but it succumbed to a leasing crisis. Â Joe's got replaced by Spice, but I was furious that Joe's was gone- as who knows where the closest location was.
As I am finally catching up on my reviews and trying to cross places off my list, I finally forgave Spice, and decided to give it a shot on Sunday. Â I would also like to thank Annie L for the suggestion as well- I wish I would have came here sooner!
When walking into the place, I was shocked to see the interior- the transformation from a wacky seafood shack, to an intimate brick oven eatery with plenty of seats. Â You would be impressed if not amazed too!
Since it was Sunday, apparently all wine bottles and pizzas/flatbreads were 1/2 off! Â What a pleasant surprise! Â But we stuck to beer and mixed cocktails (oops). Â The menu was vast, but stuck to an order of saganaki, a pizza order, and a flatbread order (should have pics).
The saganaki came out- and for a non-Greek restaurant- it was pretty tasty! Â The lemon was dusted with parsley on one side, so when you squeezed it, the parsley would dust the cheese. Â Yum!
The flatbread came out, which I ended up eating- I think it was the BBQ pork. Â It was yum, and hearty! Â My friend got the rustica pizza, she enjoyed it- but it was so much! Mind you she might be literally 1/3 my size. Â The crust on both seemed to be cooked just right, but if it sits, the crunch is slightly compromised.
Now, at this point, we were slowly getting full- but the server, she convinced us to get dessert. Â I got the Key Lime, she got the Chocolate Molten Lava. Â I couldn't believe it, but that was some of the BEST KLP I have had. Â That choco cake was wonderful too! Â Let's put it this way- I cannot believe I have eaten here at an earlier time! Â The service was on point, and is a great spot for a date- or just a drink- but if you are a fan of flatbreads, I would tell you that this is worth the trip- especially on a Sunday!
I've been here several times for both drinks and dinner. Â The atmosphere is sophisticated casual, if you can imagine that. Â A large bar takes up one wall, there is a large indoor seating area as well as a good sized covered outdoor area. Â I've had good and mediocre bartender experiences, but since I go on a semi-regular basis, the mediocre experience is just funny now. Â (like an inside joke kind of funny) Â The waiters have all been great, attentive, but not overly so. Â The food is tapas, but they also have pizzas. Â I have tried most things on the menu and have like it all. Â They have daily drink specials and some food specials. Â I can see this as a good date place or a fun time to hang out with the girls.
Review Source:One of our absolute 2 favorite restaurants in Alpharetta. Â Great martinis, good beer and wine selection; our favorite tapas are the saganaki (awesome!), BBQ shrimp skewers, the calamari (also awesome!), the bistro filet, and, well, pretty much everything. Â The flatbreads are winners too.
Review Source:The food is phenomenal and the drinks are expensive but STRONG (I'm not kidding. Be careful if you drove yourself there!). I have been three times and had excellent service each time - the last visit was with a big party and even with 11 people on a busy Saturday night we got all of our drinks and food quickly, great recommendations, and just an overall willingness to please.
Review Source:My husband and I were ready to walk in to the neighboring Ruby Tuesday when we decided to give Spice a try - SO glad we did!
The ambiance is great, especially for a date night.
Service was EXCELLENT! Our waiter was happy to go through the various choices on the menu and made numerous recommendations which we appreciated. He was very attentive and everything was delivered on time and correctly.
The food was AWESOME. We started with the hummus and a bratwurst slider. The hummus was a typical tapas portion and was fairly basic, served with warmed pita and a couple slices of cucumber. The bratwurst slider was a generous portion, served in a hoagie roll with a side of mustard. It was really tasty and ample for the price. Next we tried the meatball slider and the braised short ribs. I was expecting frozen meatballs but these were anything but - obviously freshly made and really flavorful. The short ribs were SO tender and served over polenta cakes that were perfectly cooked. We also had a side of roasted potatoes (papas bravas) that were probably my favorite out of everything. They are covered in a tomato sauce and served with a side of aoli - SO good!
My husband enjoyed a couple Sam Adams Merry Mischief and I had a couple top shelf margaritas that were on special for $5 each.
My only complaint would be the price - this isn't the cheapest tapas I've ever had, but the service and quality of the food were well worth it.
It was a nice touch when the manager stopped by our table twice to check on us and even chit chatted for a good while and asked us back in for a drink on the house. We will DEFINITELY be back!
My sister in law and I went here for lunch. Overall, our experience was good. I do highly recommend the fried goat cheese....YUMMY!!!! I do suggest to order the grilled pita points along with it, so you have something to spread the cheese on. I had the the braised short ribs that came on a polenta cake( pretty good). My sister in law had the wood fire salmon( very good) great flavor.
Review Source:I've been here twice. Once was with a group of friends for a ladies night out, and the other was with my two year old son. I wasn't sure how my experience would differ with having a child there, but it was just as good with him there.
They have amazing food. Seriously, some of the best food I've had in a while. My son enjoyed the cheese flatbread and we were there on a Tuesday night, so it was 1/2 off wine and flatbreads.
Here's what I've had:
The braised short ribs (so delicious)- tastes like pot roast and is to tender and juicy.
Beer battered Shrimp- it was good, but not something I'd order again.
Seared scallops- absolutely a must-order item! The combination of truffle oil and asparagus is incredible.
Spinach and ricotta flatbread- a must order item! Delicious and filling.
Grilled asparagus- delicious and a nice smoky flavor
Homemade Chips- this is a BIG order and it's really yummy.
Fish and chips- really light and flaky, tarter sauce is yummy, and the chips are great too!
Tzatziki spread as a starter (so good)! You must try this as your starter!
Spinach Salad- it was good, but not a must-order item.
It's about the service. Bartending has got to be the world's second oldest profession but people still get it wrong. It was a Friday night circa 10PM and there were a whopping 3 people at the bar, including myself. There are two people tending bar and the barkeepers didn't check on me for about 15mins. My goodness, if I ever tend bar, I'd be checking on you regularly. And if there are only three people at the bar, you can best believe I'm going to make you feel like staying and spending more money. But that ain't the case here so I guess they don't need my two cents. Oh well, guess I'll just carry on because IMO Spice is getting a little long in the tooth.
Review Source:Cool spot. Came by on a whim after shopping at North Point Mall, and it was pure accidental. My boyfriend mistook this place for another restaurant he had been too some whiles ago, and said it was really good.
Luckily, the food was really good.
The favorite of the night was the spare ribs. It was cooked JUST right, and the tenderness of the meat makes it feel as if the meat just melts in your mouth as you chew.
The crabcakes was definitely a miss, however.
The fish tacos were pretty okay, and the sausage and pepperoni pizza was delicious. Although, I think the bbq pizza probably be good, too. It smelled good as it walked by us to another table lol.
I'm sure we'll be back :]
Came here on a Saturday for lunch. It was super empty, but hands down the best service we've had in awhile.
The ambiance is beautiful. Truly, the moment you walk in you're already thinking "oh my gosh this is going to be expennnsiveeee" but honestly, it wasn't too bad. Each tapas item was under $10, with an exception to our pizza which was $12.
Between each tapas, our plates were switched out. Nice!
What we got:
-Hummus: don't get this, not too impressive ($5)
-Mussels: YUM! large portion of mussels in spicy pomodoro sauce = winner ($6)
-BBQ Chicken Pizza: the boyfriend LOVED THIS. Our pizza was cooked perfectly, with a crispy edge and non-soggy middle. It was uhhh-mazing. ($12)
-Crab fritters: served super hot with a tangy sauce...not my favorite--it was okay. ($6)
The food was a hit or miss in my opinion, but the best thing about tapas is it's perfect to share. We also ordered two beverages with our meal (sweetwater beer for $6 and a sangria for $5), AND had leftovers. Total? Approximately $40, around $48 with tip.
It might be a LITTLE on the pricey for lunch on a weekend, but their weekday lunch specials are a must. Come in Monday-Friday for 1/2 off pizza/flatbread deals or $9 lunch specials. There are specific nights of the week that have "specials" so definitely try them out! Unfortunately for us, we went on the only day that had zero food specials (Saturday).
We'll be back! Probably with a bigger group, or for their lunch specials. My favorite thing here was their pizza/seafood so we'll be aiming to try more of those next time.
I am such a fan! Â $5 martinis....yup, I am truly a fan. Â I love the atmosphere. The service is always great! Â The fried goat cheese....yummmmy! Â The pizza and calamari is delicious. Â The bartenders are cool and do mind experimenting with the cocktails. Â This is my go to spot for a girls day out.
Review Source:I eagerly anticipated stopping at this restaurant...so I did for lunch one day. Â I sat at the bar and ordered their Barbecue Chicken pizza...at the suggestion of the bartender. Â She said that the pizzas there were really good...well, she and I have a difference of opinion on good pizza.
The crust was thin and it was obviously that it was cooked on a brick oven...but, the center of the pizza crust was quite soggy and could not hold up to the stuff on it.  The chicken was  bland, to say the least...and it lacked any real barbecue sauce to punch up the flavor.
I simply cannot recommend this place, as it was just mehhhh...
Haiku for it...
Really good pizza?
Had better at Pizza Hut...
Likely no return.
Went there last night and the service was very good (fast, attentive). Â The food was good too although the scallop pizza was a little too salty and greasy. Â Overall, the food here has plenty of taste. And they make up some unique combinations (fried goat cheese with a honey and black pepper glaze) and the tapas portions are of pretty good size to share. Â Their selection is not as large as other tapas places I have been, but there is still plenty to choose from and we left there stuffed. 2 glasses of wine and a beer, 3 tapas and the pizza was about $60.
Review Source:I was excited to try this place since I love tapas. The restaurant was a Joe's Crab shack and I was very impressed with the renovations. Very nice bar with plenty of seating and nice drink/wine list.
The food is okay...nothing that is awe inspiring. I had the scallops and was disappointed that they were bay scallops in a buttery sauce that was overwhelmed with capers (and I like capers). Also, had the margherita pizza and it was cooked well (brick oven).
Service is great and the bartenders are very friendly. Nice patio too. I would recommend this place for a happy hour.
An "A" for service. After learning of wife's food allergies, our server (Izabelle) made a salad dressing that was delicious. Â Very attentive and friendly throughout too.
Food was OK, but did not have any pizza or flat breads. Bistro filet was very good, but Papas Bravas were nothing special and the shrimp were nothing special. Not bad, just OK.
I have never been to Spice before and didn't know what to expect of this place. Â The restaurant seemed to be an upscale establishment but that was just a facade. The service was mediocre and the food was food was OK but nothing to rave about. Â I was expecting better service from especially when the occupancy was 20% full. I am not sure if I would go back.
Review Source:A tremendous improvement upon the Joe's Crab Shack it occupies, Spice is a welcome tapas addition to dining choices in and around North Point Parkway.
1st star - Decor / ambiance
My wife and I came in for a random Saturday night dinner, around 8pm. Â The patio was about half full, and the restaurant seemed rather full. Â We were seated immediately at the back of the dining room, near one end of the bar in a booth.
The lighting was understated, and the bar was upscale contemporary. Â Lots of pendant lighting. Â Dark woods and seat covers. Â All in all, comfy and definitely NOT Joe's Crab Shack (which should die in a fire).
At the back of the restaurant, near the door of the patio, there's a stage where a lone guitarist strummed some tunes. Â The volume wasn't terribly overbearing, which is always a concern when you see this sort of thing in a restaurant.
2nd star - Service
Our waiter, Michael, was at our table getting drink orders almost immediately. Â He returned with water and club soda and ran through the menu for us. Â We asked for a little time to pick out some tapas.
When we were ready, we placed the order and were assured that the items would come out as they were ready. Â Indeed, our food items arrived one after another in a reasonable amount of time.
Refills were quick, including an additional order of a $5 special sangria for my wife. Â Managers (???) stopped by once or twice during the meal to check on us, and our waiter (or another member of the wait staff) was always pretty easy to flag down.
3rd and 4th stars - The tapas we enjoyed
We ordered the ~$7 spinach salad to share. Â It had about 4-5 toppings listed, but it didn't look as substantial when we got it. Â Regardless, the salad, with the lemon dressing, was tasty, and it was sufficient for 2 people to split. Â I would get the arugula salad next time, as it was a little cheaper at ~$6.
We also ordered a gyro flatbread (12-15 inches long, 5 inches wide) at ~$10 and a 4oz filet with chimichurri sauce. Â The filet was round and a rather tiny. Â It was cooked as ordered (medium), and the chimichurri sauce was good (my wife said she'd had better elsewhere).
The flatbread was the best thing we ordered. Â Field greens, gyro lamb meat, tomatos, tzatziki sauce, and seasoning on a crispy flatbread. Â It was a huge portion -- enough for 2 people to have 3-4 pieces each. Â Lots of flavor to boot.
We rounded out the good tapas with the ~$5 grilled asparagus. Â It was cooked perfectly and had a nice brick oven char / flavor to it.
Lost 5th star - The tapas we didn't like, and pricing
I ordered the blackened tuna and found it to not be worth ~$9. Â The tuna was fine, but it wasn't much for the price. Â I wouldn't order it again, only because of the portion.
Speaking of prices, that's one reason I knocked off a star. Â The prices for certain tapas items didn't jive. Â We saw someone with one of the ~$6 steamed mussel dishes, and it looked huge. Â Then we have the tuna dish that I ordered, and I felt like the tuna could've been sliced thicker and more consistently for what I was paying.
The prices seemed a little medium-high for what you were getting. Â The flatbread was the exception. Â At ~$10, the flatbread we ordered was a bargain. Â Even better -- they have 1/2 price flatbread and bottled wine on Tuesdays.
Overall, we liked Spice and will be returning to try more of the flatbread selection. Â The menu was varied enough that I feel like we could also find some more tapas gems that are in line with the prices they're asking. Â Finally, if we support this local restaurant, perhaps it won't get replaced with another godawful Joe's Crab Shack.
I decided to try out Spice after work one day. Â This is a very nice alternative to the boring Cheesecake Factory and Bahama Breeze. Â I was impressed! Â The price point is excellent for the tapas. Â I had the fried green beans and wood grill salmon and they were both tasty. Â But the highlight are the drinks. Â They have martini specials on Wednesday and Friday nights for cheap! Â I had a peach mojito and it was perfect! Bump the happy hour at those other places, this is my new spot for cocktails!!
Review Source:My wife and I decided to give the tapas at Spice another try last week, and I'm glad we did. Â It's clear that management has been listening to customer feedback and they've taken steps to improve the quality of the food.
We shared several small plates and were really impressed with the goat cheese appetizer - what a great way to start a meal, especially when paired with a nice beer (I chose Bell's Oberon, one of my favorites). Â I also highly recommend the fish and chips, the gyro flatbread and the black & blue tacos. Â My wife couldn't stop singing the praises of the bratwurst sliders. Â Most everything we ordered was fresh and packed with flavor... a definite improvement over previous visits. Â The only plate we didn't really care for was the beef satay.
They were sold out of a couple of the beers I ordered, but I didn't really mind because they have a huge list of microbrews so I was able to find a variety of choices that made me happy.
Service was on-point and we really enjoyed our waiter's suggestions. Â I definitely don't regret giving the food at Spice another chance, and I'd recommend that others do the same, if you haven't dined here in a while - or if you've been thinking about visiting for the first time.
Spice is a very cool we went here with a group of friends the pizza is very good and the drinks are also very good try the peach martini or the watermelon martini according to my wife the service was awesome only thing they need is a live Dj!oh the hummus was pretty good also and the calamari and fried green beans!
Review Source:It was not my choice. I've generally found this restaurant group to have average to slightly above average food at best. But I have an open mind.
I was a little encouraged about the use of "OO" flour and a brick oven for the pizza. Turns out the pizza is slightly above average. But it tasted like cheese well below Grande. Dough made it very acceptable, but with the quality of competition in the area, no way in hell would I go back for it.
Worst was the so-called crab fritters. They were hush puppies with some crab crumbles thrown in for flavoring.
This place isn't for locals. It's for the ITP crowd who drive in for shopping and is looking for a break from the half-dozen chains per mile that pollute in-town. In that sense, Spice rises to that level.
For those who know the area though, it's not a good option. Â Eh the bar area is okay. Maybe I'll grab a beer. I'll just eat somewhere else first.
Awesome interior!! High class looking restaurant!! Bad Bad Bad food!
OMG.. I've never tasted anything so amazingly tasteless... holy SHIT!
Shrimp Al Ajillo - salty, dark sauce, over sauced
Tilapila Fish Tacos - blend, blend and blend (no seasoning what so ever)
Calamari - chewy squid and soggy breading
Jerk wing chicken - over sauced once again and tastes more like bbq, hot sauce, and soy sauce with dry rub
The worst of all, they ran out Glenlevit at 6 PM. Â Only 12 year old McCallan's and the bar tender recommended something that I had no idea what it was... wait a minute, she was not our bartender.. Oh that's right, my bartender looked pissed off the entire time I was there... jeez.. jeez.. jeez...
Where is Robert Irvine? Dude.. you need to fix this place UP!
I was highly tempted to go with a 3 star review, but ultimately decided the most positive thing about this place was the cute blonde I brought with me. Sorry Spice, you're not riding my good fortune into an extra star.
I personally am not a huge fan of hostesses dressed like they're on the way to the club, but other than that I really liked the atmosphere. The decor and lighting fit the place really well.
Our service could best be described as "attentive but impersonal." We skipped the alcohol but our drinks were always promptly refilled. The food came out quickly and we were frequently "checked up on," but it was by a different server every time it seemed.
The food...well, if you like tapas and driving, there are better options in Atlanta. We had:
Tilapia tacos- The fish was good, but it was a little heavy on the sauce.
Lamb kabobs- This could be described better as "lamb meatloaf with a stick poking out." It was well seasoned but a little dry.
Papas bravas- Since we had both been to Spain, our standard for papas bravas were admittedly a little high. Some of the potatoes were a little under cooked, likely due to their inconsistent size.
Fried goat cheese- The best thing we had. It was fried to perfection and the sweet sauce (forgot the name) drizzled on it was great.
So it really wasn't that bad of a place, but with so many dining options around, it's hard to get away with mediocre food. Fortunately for Spice a little pep rally in the kitchen could solve their problems, as the issues I saw appeared to be cooking technique problems rather than just a bad menu.
With this being at that major intersection of Haynes Bridge and North Point Pkwy, I like many others saw this being worked on for months and was looking forward to a Tapas restaurant in the Alpharetta area, especially knowing that the owner of this is also the owner of Sage, North Point Diner and Peachtree Diner.
I have been here 4 times now. Twice with others, sitting at tables and twice sitting at the bar. The service at the bar was good while the service at the tables was not so great considering the prices here. Drinks were not filled until asked even if they were clearly empty. The second time at a table, we did not see our waitress from the time she took our orders to the time she gave us our bills and it was not very busy yet.
Busy or not, the food has always come fast.
My favorites are the Fried Green Beans w/ a wonderful Hoisen Sauce, Pulled Pork Sliders and their Spinach Salad. And the Beer Battered Shrimp was surprisingly a wonderful dish with the best Sweet and Sour sauce I've had.
While the biggest disappointments have been the Crab Fritters (can barely taste the crab....the FAKE stuff would give more flavor, sorry to say), and the Braised Short Ribs.
I still look forward to trying other things, but I will most likely enjoy the service at the bar if I have the choice!
Came here with some coworkers for lunch. We made a reservation and got our own little section. The place just opened up a little over a month ago so the interior was fairly clean and snazzy.
Server: Took him a while to come and get our orders. He did a good job refill out waters a lot (party of 10). I look at how attentive the server is at our water levels to determine tip %.
Food: All 10 of us ordered something different. We ordered the fried green beans, asparagus, salad, flatbreads, chicken and sausage skewer, BBQ Chicken pie, fish tacos, BBQ Pulled Pork sliders, Fried Calamari. Overall, the veggies, flatbread, and pizza were the best. The skewer was a complete fail. It was very small for $7 and taste/texture was just average at best. Fish Tacos (2) came out and the first thing I noticed was the amount of tortilla I saw. There was not enough ingredients inside the tortilla. The fried calamari was decent.
Drinks: We all ordered water / soda since we took out an applicant for lunch.
Since the company paid for it, I was satisfied with what I ate. However, I would not recommend nor visit again.
First time visitors last weekend. Â Hostess was a bit 'cool' but the rest of the experience was great. Â My husband, daughter and I shared several plates; short ribs, scallops, fried goat cheese (yum!), mini filet, spicy fried green beans (double yum!) and the sliders. Â Food came out very quickly..our service was great. Â We had 3 glasses of wine and our total bill came to about $100. Â It's a class environment, great bar, and would be a nice 'date night' kind of place. Â We'll be back.
Review Source:Spice? Not so much. Â It is a cool space with a lot of energy. Â The bartender recognized us from our previous visit and provided excellent service. The name, however, tickles my misnomer bone. Â
Dinner came lightning fast. Â The fries were not very crisp but they came with a really good garlic aioli dipping sauce.
The Chilpote  Pulled Pork sliders were mushy as if the meat was prepared in a crock pot.  The sauce was more sweet than heat.  I am not a fan.
The Italian Sausage Pie was uninspiring. Granted, they use a high quality sausage with lots of fennel, but the pomorodo sauce did not bring much to the table and the crust was a huge disappointment.  The fact that they use 00 flour and a brick oven suggested a well crafted light crust with a bit of char and an interesting texture.  This crust was heavy, lacking both flavor and complexity, and  obnoxiously round as well.
There was a guy singing covers with a guitar and a cheezy karaoke setup. Â
We wanted to like this place; cute kids work here and they work hard to provide prompt and friendly service. Â But they there are too much good food around to waste much time here. Â We thought we might give it another shot with other selections from their (rather extensive) menu.
I had high expectations of this place. Even before it opened though I was confused by the name. The name "Spice" indicates to me something exotic. Something east asian- Indian, Thai, even Vietnamese. But not a brick oven. This place would be better off called "Flavors" or something.
Went with a friend got 3 dishes, 2 drinks and dessert for $40:
seared scallops: When I read "seared scallops" I envisioned large diver or bigger than a half dollar sea scallops seared golden brown on each side. But that's not what you get. They were the tiniest scallops I've ever seen- like half a styrofoam peanut. I would rename the item "sauteed baby scallops" That would be more accurate. They had a very light taste- Sauteed and buttery tasting with asparagus and mushrooms.
crab fritters: Terrible! Needs to be taken off the menu or revised. We received 3 hard brown hush-puppy looking dumplings. They were so dry inside it was almost like they were previously frozen and refried. There were barely noticeable strands of crab interwoven in the bready dumpling. My friend with me commented if it weren't for the sauce (which was a nice lemony aioli) the fritter would have been to dry to eat.
fish tacos: The best item of the night and I would actually go back to eat this. You get 2 in one order. Nicely battered and fried tilapia with crunchy coleslaw. Yum.
Dessert- inside out tiramisu: I guess the inside out means the lady fingers were on the outside and encompassed a cream in the middle. This was awful. It tasted like it was freshly made at some point then put in a freezer. Then left to thaw out before service. So the lady fingers were soggy with melted ice or water- not espresso like it should be. The center cream was stiff and slightly clumpy. Not airy and light like tiramisu cream should be.
Overall- yes I feel like I've experienced much better tapas elsewhere (Red Sky in Marietta is great). . .But considering this is a neighborhood place that's just started I'll give it another try. I just hope my incliniations regarding their use of their freezers are not true. I would hope everything is made fresh to order.
We were so excited to try Spice because we love the Diner at North Point and Sage. The atmosphere and wait staff were great, but the food was average. The portions were smaller than we were used to for tapas. We like the Blue Grotto in Sandy Springs and always can share things there. Here the shrimp app was tiny as well as the short ribs which were recommended. They tasted like cubes of pot roast to my husband and I instead of short ribs and the polenta cakes they were served on were tasteless. The eggplant spread with pita points were good and the bbq chicken skewers were good as well. We were still hungry so we ordered the dessert of the day which was oreo mousse pie. It was good, but not the big slice like we're used to at the Diner at North Point.
Overall, this was a nice change of pace from the restaurants around the area, but over priced for what it is. You can get the same quality food at Sage or the Diner at North Point and pay less money. We might stop in for drinks, dessert, or pizza, but pass on the tapas. It is certainly a great atmosphere for happy hour because their drink menu is extensive so it should please everyone.
It's great to get a tapas restaurant in Alpharetta. Â I've been twice since they opened and the food's been great. Â
I went with a group of girls on a Thursday night and we were seated immediately. Â The other time was on a Saturday at 7pm and there was a 15 minute wait time. Â The bar was packed, but we we able to snag 1 quick pre-meal drink. Â I had an orange-tini and it was very yummy.
The time we went with just two of us, we were seated at a high top, which I'll say wasn't very conducive to multiple plates. Â The other time was an oversized both that seated all 5 of girls comfortably.
The beef satay skewers and the pulled pork sliders were my favorites. Â My friends loved the crab fritters (I'm allergic). Â Also I heard the brick oven pizzas were amazing ( I was too full when our group ordered ours).
It was a fun environment, they had a musician on the Saturday night. Â I'll definitely go back, it's nice to have a lot of variety to accommodate different palates.
I have been waiting for several weeks to try this place. Spice is in the location where Joe's Crab Shack used to be and is owned by the same people who own Sage Woodfire Tavern just down the road as well as the Peachtree Diner and Northpoint Diner.
I've been in several Tapas Bars/Restaurants and this might be the best yet. The menu is extensive and very different. Obviously, from the name, you'd guess that they specialize in brick oven cooking, particularly their pizzas and flat breads (I like the thin crust of the flat bread version). However, their beer list is very extensive with lots of drafts and are not overpriced. Most drafts are $3.95 16 oz. or $4.95 22 oz.. Menu items vary from $4 to $9 and, like the pizzas and flatbreads, imaginative and varied. I tried the blackened tuna, grilled vegetable flat bread and fried goat cheese. All were excellent.
I was there the first night they were open and, needless to say, people were still learning their way around but the service was excellent, the food was great, the staff friendly and the atmosphere borders on eclectic. I think this will become a regular stop for me.
