Went for dinner. The food was good but the portions are terrible. For the price they charge they should offer at least two sides. I feel they charge high prices for minimal. Service was not the best she seemed irritated. Â Ordered a virgin strawberry daquiri was chaged the same as if Iit had alcohol. Wouldn't go back anytime soon.
Review Source:I have been to this establishment twice. So here goes... My first experience was mediocre, but would have earned the restaurant 3 stars. During my first visit, I was bamboozled by a scoutmob deal that was misleading. I'm not sure if it was the fault of scoutmob or Spoon's. Nonetheless, I decided to try the place out for lunch, considering that I was very hungry. The restaurant was very cold. I had to keep my coat on the entire time. I will admit that I am picky about my BBQ. I grew up in Memphis, which has the best BBQ ever, so I would say that my standards are pretty high. However, I keep in mind that Georgia is not a place for great BBQ in general, so I'm pretty fair with my assessment of the BBQ restaurants here. Now to the food. The smoked BBQ wings were acceptable. The smoked flavor was good, but the sauce left much to be desired. The fries that came along with it were simply those frozen steak fries from the frozen aisle at the grocery store. The meal was fair. It was neither stellar or terrible.
Now on to my second visit. My significant other wanted to try the place out, since I had mentioned it a few days before gave and because it is close to were we live. This visit was totally awful! First, we called ahead to place the order. They were out of some of the side items that we wanted to order. Given the limited items, I changed my mind and ordered mac and cheese and had second thoughts and thought I'd just go with something basic like fries. The waitress asked for our credit/debit info over the phone, which I have NEVER experienced when ordering food over the phone that was a personal order for just two people. Now had it been something that was going to feed a large group and amounted to hundreds of dollars, I would have understood that. I objected, but my SO gave out the info (he was very hungry). For me, that would have been a cancellation. We proceed to pick up the order and when we arrive it is nowhere near being done. We wait....and wait...and wait in the cold restaurant. Keep in mind that the place is not at all busy. There were less than ten people in the building. They offered both of us a beverage, since we had to wait. We declined and continued to wait. Finally, the food is ready. I asked the waitress twice to make sure that they included fries instead of mac and cheese. She assured me twice and even put a bag full of ketchup in the bag. I tried to check it, but SO told me not to. We had been there so long, he was just ready to go. We arrive home and open our boxes and guess what....no fries at all. II cal back to let them know that my order was wrong. They treated me like I was lying about even placing an order in the first place. Wheew! This is getting to be a bit much. Finally, they remember me (I was there about 10 minutes ago). I go back to get the fries, which I have to wait for. To their credit the fries were hot. Now to the food, again, my wings, which were the same as the ones I ordered during my previous visit, were burnt, rubbery, and just plain nasty. Ewww. I ate one and could not take another bite. I didn't even attempt to try SO's ribs. How do you mess up wings? The restaurant earned 1 star based on this experience.
I decided to average the two visits and I give Spoon's 2 stars. I will never try this place ever again. The service is terrible. The food is not tasty. It is too cold inside the restaurant. Â Please, don't waste your time.
Decided to give Spoon's a try because we live in the neighborhood and had a taste for some barbecue. Ordered the Brisket and Turkey sandwich combos and the smoked wings. The sides (Sweet potatoes, greens and fries) were passable, but nothing special. ALL of the meat was dry and flavorless and barely had any of this so-called 'famous Kansas City sauce'. It was just dry meat on equally dry bread! Thought I could get some much needed lubrication by dipping the brisket sandwich in the juice from the greens, but guess what...they were nearly bone dry too!! WTH?? How is that even possible? Horrible "barbecue"...horrible food and serving size overall...ridiculous prices. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.
Review Source:FIrst let me say that the only thing I enjoy more than some GOOD barbq ribs is watching my Cleveland Browns attempt to play football. I was in Atlanta on business and the hotel did not have the NFL Network and the Browns were playing a Thursday night game and I needed somewhere to watch it.
Spoons was near the hotel and it had large screens with the projectors to show the game. That was pretty good even though I had to keep asking them to turn off the music on the speakers so the game could be watched.
Drum roll ............................ now for the food.
The wings as appetizers were very good! Especially with the Spicy Spoon barbq sauce.
The smoked turkey was tender and pretty good.
The beef brisket tasted like the tongue on my Jordan tennis shoes.
The ribs - looked great!
They were terrible - terrible - terrible .. did I say terrible.
All of the meats had sauce sprinkled on them. I asked for some more sauce, since there was NO sauces on any table. Isn't that strange for a barBQ place? But maybe that's just me.
They charged me 39 cents to bring me some more sauce.
Whaaaaaaatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt??? That was a first for me ....They should hage brought a 2 liter bottle out to the table to try to liquify those pretty looking - hard to chew beef jerky type barBQ ribs. It was like having Halle Berry show up at your door only to have Phyllis DIller walk in.
Great to see the game
Terrible for ribs
Cant do it again. Â The words smokehouse got me a bit excited...the reality of a 30+ minute wait for a burger in a less than busy lunch stop for 9 bucks left me less than limp. Â See I want places like this to do well, it probably is a decent place to watch a game and eat something simple - probably has great drinks as well....but I cant recommend it as a lunch spot at all.........even though the waitress staff was kinda cute.....being late AND overpaying for lunch isnt cute at all.
Review Source:Before I get to this review "The FOOD HERE IS DECENT". Ok, now that is out the way, let's get to the review. Â I try my best to support Black Owned Businesses especially on the Southside of Atlanta since I live in this area. One thing about most (B.O.B.) is they do their very best to squeeze every nickel and dime out of you. Spoon's Smokehouse Bar and Grill is no different. Â The cornerstone to most BBQ establishment is their Ribs. Â It's usually the most expensive item on the menu, and Spoon's hold this true to form. Â But this is not the issue. Â The issue that I have is "WHY DON'T A HALF SLAB of RIBS COME WITH AT LEAST ONE SIDE"? Their Chicken dinners (Entrees) menu come with one, even their Fish dinners come with two, but a Half a Slab gets not one. (What is that about)? Â A paying customer that doesn't want to eat just meat has to break down and purchase (Nickel and Diming) a side at over 3 a piece. Â God forbid you order two sides like I did. So they are charging you 15 dollars for 6 ribs and over 6 dollars for 2 sides totally over 21 dollars. That is ridiculous. So after paying for this, I drive home to enjoy my over 21 dollar BBQ to recognize that there wasn't any bread in my box. So I called back and spoke with the Manager, to have her say "Bread is offered on Request". (ARE YOU SERIOUS)????? Â (HOW MANY BBQ SPOTS ARE DOING THAT)?????? With all that said, I will never go back here to eat or spend another dollar here, and it's a shame because this place is local and I love BBQ.
Review Source:I read Alicia's review during the week and was delighted to find that Spoon's is next door to my hotel. It is a sports bar with 5 wall mounted TV's tuned to different events  and has 2 big 10-12' projection screens you can watch from the bar.
Enjoyed my sandwich, but not blown away.... will ask for sauce on the side next time. Â It is a BBQ place so I ordered beef and pulled pork. Â Not a rib fan, but theirs look good. Â The place certainly smells good!
Next time I go (soon) I think I will try the Angus Burger..... little display at the table that I saw after placing my order makes some pretty heavy-duty claims about how good their burger is... absolutely have to try that. Â Recently found out I liked collard greens and they have them..... they also have Brunswick stew that I still haven't tried and had never heard of until moving to Atlanta. Â
All in all, certainly worth a try if your down near the airport.
----
Went back the next day and tried that Angus burger.... very good. Â The mac and cheese was excellent! Â I'm going to be a regular.
GRAND OPENING is July 26th-29th.
