Sportsman's Pub

It was a hot summer day, as Gayle and I were done at the nearby Spirit Lake Library and had time to kill before picking up the Kid at his Art on 16th class. So why not "Dive" in and enjoy a cold one?

We had a choice of 2 bars on this same block of Downtown Spirit Lake. We chose Sportsman's over the Pub Next door, because it has been around longer and it looked dark and cool inside. But who knows, maybe the folk here own that Bar and the old (and sadly unused) Spirit Lake Bakery/Funny Barn building (on the other side) as well.

The inside was neighbourhood friendly and with a soccer match on TV when we arrived. Sports memorabilia were sprinkled throughout and I'm sure this place is a local draw during the College Football season. There's also an outdoor patio (weather permitting) and an odd collection of taped up dollar bills on the bar "ceiling". Smoking is banned within, but you will have to navigate through those folks to get inside.

The Sportsman's Pub doesn't offer draft beer (?), and the fanciest beer we could find was Sam Adams. Past that, this is a "yellow beer" (Bud, Miller, etc.) place, which is about what you should expect in these parts. However, the prices are reasonable and it's one place that you might find me on a cold winter day.
