    The Stonehouse is offering great musical entertainment, plays, poetry nights, and open mic events.
    Synthetic Unlimited has teamed with the Stonehouse to offer an evening of entertainment.  I have attended three performances.  The acting was superb.  Dinner, music, and drinks are offered before the plays and more musical entertainment after the play.  The food has been excellent.

    Absolutely beautiful and professionally run establishment.

    I had the opportunity to do a volunteer show for, "The Typsy Gypsy". I really enjoyed performing at the Stonehouse  :)

    I was looking into wedding reception venues and stumbled across the Stonehouse Restaurant.  After walking around the outside and peeking in the windows, I was really excited about this venue!  It has a lovely patio area, two floors inside, and a wine cave outside.  It is currently only available for special events, so there wouldn't be other diners present while we held our event.  I emailed Stonehouse and DeAnna wrote back and was initially very friendly and helpful.  Basically, you could rent the space from 10am-midnight, starting at $2900 (includes tables and chairs).  The info on their brochure didn't quite match the info on their website or the info that she was emailing me (some places it said a 12 hr rental, some places 14 hr rental, some places it said no catering available, other places it said that you were required to use their catering), so I asked for a clean copy of their actual contract to make sure of what I was getting.  I also requested photos of the interior of the building, as there aren't many online.  While I was waiting to hear back from DeAnna, I started speaking to wedding planners in the area (to book one of them as well).  A couple of the local ones started warning me that Stonehouse is quite flaky.  Supposedly the owner is attempting to lease the space to a restaurant (their website actually shows that), but they don't really highlight the fact that it may not be under their control in the near future (if a new tenant moves in and your event isn't until next year... you may be out of luck).  One of the planners warned to read your contract carefully with them, as details are often not what they seem.  Anyway, I sent several follow-up emails to DeAnna asking for the updated contract/info and photos.  After a week, she said she had a family emergency and would write back later.  It's now been a month and I've never heard back from anyone again at Stonehouse... maybe they got a restaurant tenant and now don't want to hear from wedding parties??  I don't know, but if they are this unreliable BEFORE they get your money, I can only imagine how it'd be AFTER they get your money.  Be careful if you choose to book with them (though the wine cave and outdoor patio are cool!)...

    PS. To those having over about 75 guests: the two dining rooms are fairly small, so depending on your wedding party size, you'll have to have everyone in two separate places, which is kind of a bummer (I was having a small wedding, so didn't matter to me).  There's a youtube video of someone's wedding videography at Stonehouse - gives you an idea of what it looks like inside.  Due to the small size, most weddings are set up to have two dining rooms upstairs and a dance floor downstairs (kind of a negative for us as the older guests would want to sit at their tables after dinner and watch the young people dance).

    My fiance and I are getting married here in July, and we have had wonderful experiences working with them. Last week we had our tasting and we were absolutely shocked at how amazing the dishes were. Our guests are seriously in for a treat!!! The prices for weddings are fantastic. My friends who recently got married cannot believe how cheap everything has been for us. The best part? Probably the amazing bar, which our guests will be hanging out in for an hour or so while we take photos. And don't forget that we're getting married in beautiful Nevada City, which is pretty much the cutest town ever!!

    I would suggest this place for a wedding to anyone who is having a small wedding. We are inviting 50 people and it will be perfect for this place. I can't wait to experience the wedding and rave even more about our experiences with them!!!

    I do not recommend the Stonehouse at all.  The manager there is unreliable and not trustworthy.  He totally lied and screwed up my party plans.  He double booked the date which we had discussed and I thought was secured.   Suggested cancelling the other party which was a wedding.  Pretended he was sorry and offered to help find other accommodations.  Said he would get back to me, never did.  Kept me thinking perhaps we could use the upstairs, said he would get back to me.  Didn't.  Finally bumped into him in the parking lot, said he just left a message on my phone, lied, no message, never called.  Be very leery of this guy.

    According to the local paper, quoting the building's owner, the Stonehouse will not reopen as a restaurant.  Instead, the owner signed a contract with a culinary school whose aim is job training 18 to 24-year-olds who want to work in food service.

    The building is rentable for special occasions, but you can't just walk in and order dinner.

    SWEET NEWS!

    the stonehouse in under new management and will be back open early this summer. this is fantastic news for me and my family as it is a huge favorite whenever visiting nevada city. it's been a long time since i have been to nevada city but mostly because of it's closing. this place is classic so i'm sure the new owners will keep some things the same. i sure hope they keep the roadhouse steak sandwich because it was always a big favorite of mine.

    this is gonna be a great summer for sure for me and my growing gut but it's worth it.

    Went here tonight for my ex-Mother-in-law's bachelorette party. Yeah, I know, it's a little odd..................Anyway:
    Ambiance = 4 stars
    Food = 5 stars
    Service = 2 stars
    Service was REALLY slow. I'm talking 15 minutes from when we sat down until we got menus. They were astounded that we wanted more than 1 basket of bread for our party of 10. Other than that though, the food was  fab. The patio was quaint, and the waiter was hot, even though we didn;t see him too often.

    The staff was friendly though the service was a little slow. I had the panko crusted trout. The crust was white, not a bit golden, though the trout was cooked. The berry sauce was very lightly trickled across the top. The green beans and squash were a tad overcooked.

    The setting is great.

    Wound up here to celebrate the retirement of my Girlfriends mother.  didn't so much enjoy a real meal so much as I got to sample some of the finger food they had for just such an occasion.  I wasn't really that impressed by anything I ate...their buffalo wings in particular were really mild and disappointing.  that said the beer was wonderful... I tried both their amber and blond ales, both of which were very good beers in their own right.

    I may come back and actually eat here at some point...but I'm definitely not in a rush to do so.
