Having been to steak house from Los Angeles to NYC and beyond I think I may know a little something about steak. But if that was my only basis in knowledge, I'd be a bit of a snob if I were to think I'd make a good reviewer of steakhouses. So as a professional Chef, that should give me I little bit more Food Cred. On my one and only visit to this restaurant, I experienced probably the worst Steak, lamb and appitizers I have ever had!! BAR NONE! we started with the crab cake app. It said fresh jumbo lump crab, what I got was a very soggy, obviously frozen cake that lacked the aforementioned lump crab. It came out on a plate that was more a dinner plate then an app. plate, it was garnished with a drizzle of some kind of sauce and 3 hari cote vert. The price ( we will get to that in a minute) was more then anything I have spent for any app. In Bluffton. My friend had a salad it was nice, but the dressing was not made in house. Our steak entrees were next, she had a filet advertised as an 8oz. Dry aged steak. What he got was more like a 6oz. Cryo-vaced steak with absolutely every bit of juice missing from the steak. My strip steak aka. new York Steak was no better! I virtually had no flavor at all, and was way under cooked! I asked for medium rare, I got very rare, with most of it's juices on the plate as if they didn't let it rest. Everything was ala carte on our visit, so we ordered the mashed potatoes, they were the only thing that had any flavor, unfortunately the were over powered by horseradish. They were inedible! When we sent them back, we were told that we would have to pay for them, because the waitress told us they were horseradish flavored. I asked to see the owner, but our server told us it was her that said we were to pay. Our server even told us that if we didn't, then the owner would make her pay for them. We were so mortified by this place that we finished our disappointing dinner paid and left. But before we did, we witnessed what can only be described as the single most appalling thing I have ever seen in my career as a chef and customer. The owner went to our waitress and started cursing her out in front of us, because we had complained about the potatoes! She even went as far as to blame her for our not being satisfied. When I went ton the owner to stand up for the server she yelled at me. I made mention of the fact that we were the only table in the house on a Friday evening after 7 pm. I told her that the problems arose from the kitchen and the prices, ( which were more then something you Would see in NYC!) and not from the server. In fact she was the only bright spot here. The owner fired her when she refused to pay for the potatoes. I will never return to this establishment, and I hope she changes her way of treating staff and customers or the restaurant will eventually fail. In today's economy, you cannot terrorize your guests. They will in turn just not return and they will write blogs or reviews, which will get the word out there to not frequent this place. To bad, it would be nice to have a non chain steakhouse here in town!
Review Source:Sublime Prime is definately NOT PRIME! Â I had seen the fancy ads for this establishment and their "Special Offerings" in the newspaper. Â My wife and I visited the Sublime Prime one weekday early evening to take advanage of their 1/2 price wine offer at their bar and their $39.00 Prime Rib Special - for Two. Â It included Prime Rib (cut in half, 8 oz), a choice of salads (1/2 the regular salad portion), a side (another 1/2 portion) and bread. Â We looked around the restaurant and noone was in it except two ladies at the bar. By now you should see the train wreck we are heading towards!
We were each asked how we wanted our prime rib cooked. Â My wife ordered hers rare and I ordered medium rare, but said more on the rarer side. Â The salad was quite nice. Â I asked if I could sub the soup and I was told there would be an upcharge of $4.00 per the OWNER! Â On the Sublime Prime menu the soup actually costs less than the regular salad price. The prime rib arrived accompanied by two pieces of asparagus for me and an onion ring for my wife. Â I looked at my prime rib and cut into it and it was cooked medium.
My wife did likewise and  hers was cooked a little less than medium!  We asked the waitress/manager to please convey to the chef/owner that these two pieces of prime rib were not what we ordered!  My wife was sent over a complementary glass of wine by the owner lady.
Our "new" prime ribs arrived. Â My wife touched her prime rib and it was COLD! And so was mine!! Â They had apparently cut their prime ribs from a pre-cooked, Sysco packaged prime rib roast. Â Plus they were also incorrectly cooked. Â I asked to speak to the owner and she refused to come to our table!!
After much discussion, my wife and I agreed that the waitress/manager was very tolerent of my behavior and the owner's behavior having been caught in the middle of a very, disasterous situation. Â We tipped her $10.00 for the 35 minutes she spent trying to serve us COLD (previously FROZEN) prime rib at the Sublime Prime restaurant! Â She was so pleasant and tried very, very hard to make our dining disaster a less painful experience. Â Hopefully, she is working somewhere else where her skills are suited for a much better buiness.
We left and on the way out noticed that in the time we were there NO ONE else came into either the restaurant or bar....now that tells it ALL!!
{Prediction: The UNSUBLIME PRIME WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER!
