Sully's, like most nearly-fast-food joints, suffers from some inconsistency. It's usually good, and I'll base this review on several trips in which the food was well-prepared. It's a bit unfair to rate places (which aren't, say, Christopher's) on a single trip, anyway.
Let's start with the french fries.
There's several places popping up in B/CS serving skinny fries, and I think this is a good thing. I like steak-cut fries from time to time, but not with every meal. When cooked well, the fries here are great, and that's pretty much a must for a burger place. If you don't have good fries, I don't care how good your burger is (Koppe Bridge, cough cough.)
The burgers are fabulous.
Without fail the meat has been cooked properly with a slight char on the outside but juicy on the inside, the pink just barely warmed to grey. There's a certain flame cooked taste (although I am not sure how they're cooked) that just sits right on my palate. The Aggie Special is a burger and fries for $4.99 and, because of that price, it wins the best burger/price ratio in B/CS hands-down.
Try the chicken strips.
Unlike Laynes and Canes, who both serve thickly battered, mostly flavorless chicken strips, Sully's strips have some true flavor. The batter is almost tempura like and, I swear, has some beer in it, along with some spice and black pepper. They don't have a unique signature sauce like their neighbors, but you do have a choice of dipping sauces. I admit that I'm from Texas, so I default to ranch dressing or gravy.
If you're truly hungry, get a patty melt.
The patty melt is a 1/3 or 1/2 pound burger served on crispy toast and topped with grilled onions and, of course, cheese. If this doesn't fill you up, you probably need to go on a diet anyway. :) My favorite meal at this place.
I haven't enjoyed everything.
If you're in the mood for a salad, you probably want to skip this place. They have chicken and waffles, which I normally adore, but theirs just doesn't work for reasons I can't put my finger on. And, while my friends loved it, I didn't enjoy the Philly steak sandwich.
The onion rings are home-made and, while greasy, quite good.
All in all, like I said, the best Burger Bang for the Buck in B/CS, along with a few more menu items worth trying.
PS. If you suffer from TV addiction, get your meal to go.
Took my family. Real clean and friendly. My daughter loved her salad.
As a family we got grilled and fried versions of the chicken. Awful. The fried was dropping of grease and couldn't taste meat. The grilled had some flavoring that just couldn't wash out of our mouth. We ha to leave and go eat somewhere else.
I really tried to like this place but after four times I will not be back. The burger was some kind of preformed patty with hard bits in it. The fries are greasy and there is no other side to choose from. The poboy is just a chicken strip on a bun with lettuce and mayonnaise. The patty melt was probably the best thing I had except for the fact that it made me sick. If you have to go here I would recommend eating at either place next door and just getting a beer at sully's.
Review Source:I've had a better burger, but I've also had worse. Â The person taking our order had the personality of a tree stump and I'm guessing was mute cause I don't recall him ever saying one word to us, including when we asked him if our chips and queso would come out first. Â We just got a head bobbing from him. Â And we got our chips and queso AFTER our burgers. Â Oh well. Â The order taker also assumed since my husband didn't want onions that I didn't either, which couldn't be farther from the truth.
The burger itself was over-cooked and quite dry. Â The flavor was decent and the produce was fresh. Â The fries were pretty good. Â The queso was just alright, Â I liked the salsa quite a bit but would be 100 times better if it were cold, just my opinion. Â Sadly, the chips we got were almost all tiny broken pieces (usually a surefire sign that folks don't care enough to pay attention to what's going out to the customer).
Yes, there are A LOT of TVs. Â If you want a marginally decent meal without having to talk to even look at the people you're with then this is the place for you!
For us, I highly doubt we'll be back.
I hadn't tried Sully's since it was Fowl Digits, so I figured I would give it a go.
I had the Philly cheesesteak, my accomplice had the wings. First, the "skinny" fries are MUCH improved over the crinkle fries that Fowl Digits had. The onion rings were large, thick-cut and heavily battered. They looked pretty good, but I didn't try any. The accomplice said that they were good though.
The cheesesteak was served with au ju, although I'd find that a little odd for a cheesesteak. The sandwich was passable, nothing spectacular in any regard but definitely edible. Accomplice said the wings were good, not as messy as Wings N More.
Overall it was a fine experience, nothing negative, nothing overly positive about it. I don't think it will make it to our frequent rotation, but if someone else suggested it I wouldn't have a problem going back. I do wish they had wait staff, especially considering it is a "sports bar".
I'll start with the good. If you want a sports bar, then this is the place. Good selection of beers, reasonable prices and tons of TVs!
The restaurant side of it? Not so much. Ordered chicken and waffles, which sounds good on paper. In reality, it's more like an average waffle that you would make yourself at breakfast during an overnight hotel stay. And the chicken is uninspired and lacking any type of flavor.
What made my first visit here worse was the fact that my food sat under the heating lamps for a good 5 minutes before it was brought out. How do I know? I watched the whole scene unfold. Finally I went up to the window and grabbed it myself. Their excuse? It didn't have a ticket with it. I guess the staff working that day werent smart enough to figure it out on their own. Never mind that I was one of the few without my food and the big glaring number propped up on the table. Needless to say, the waffle was cold by the time it reached me. Pair that with the room temperature syrup and it makes things even worse.
First impressions may not mean much to everyone, but they do to me. I will not be back. There are too many other restaurants in this town. Do yourselves a favor and don't waste your money here.
So based on a few reviews as I searched for the best burger around, I settled on this place. Burger was bomb...no question, well prepared, perfectly cooked to order. Staff was friendly(even did that Howdy thing that you Texans love) I sat at the bar, got my drink in a plastic cup which was odd, but I guess down here it's a little different overall. You order your food before you sit, that includes, apps, main dish and dessert. Presents a bit of a rushed atmosphere, but I've noticed that in these parts they all have a similar set up. Not sure if it's because it's so college dominated that they feel students my pull a "chew and screw" but either way, it is what it is. Mad TVs, pretty cool spot, not sure I would classify as a sports bar but since it does say Sport's Grill and Bar I guess technically they must already known there main pull is their good food and then the fact that they have TVs. Anyone overall good spot for a burger! Would definitely return next time I have a hankering for a burger!
Review Source:I went and ordered the Aggie Burger Basket and was satisfied with it. The burger had probably the best beef patty I have tasted; very delicious! The fries were also awesome!
The reason why I'm giving four stars and not five is because the portion was fairly small. I had seen the portions served for this same order that were not take-out (I ordered take-out), and they were significantly bigger. Just a bit disappointed in that aspect.
So, have an important friend coming from Houston, never been to College Station before in fact, living in Houston, asks me best place to eat? Â Sully's on Business 6 I tell him and we met there. Â He exits Hiway 6 Business instead of University (30).
What do we find? Â Graphic wrapped Hummers from Candy 95 and KZNE 1150 The Zone. Â (Uploading photos). Â And a limo I believe. Â Every parking slot was full out to the back, my friend accidentally parked at Layne's and I created a place that was not technically a parking spot. Â
Small line, two people ahead but we noticed that every table was full. Â Saw Owner Mark (nice guy) and said hi (yes he has read my Yelp reviews, he has told me) and asked how long for a table. Â He said "Half Time, kickoff in in 14 minutes", but there's still the patio". Â So we started to order, friend went to grab a table outside as the weather was nice and that fast they had filled. Â Line behind us was out the door and Bam! Â No seats. Â
I thought the game started later (& Tivo them anyway) and accidentally arrived 14 minutes before kickoff for an A&M Football away game (Where A&M defeated Auburn 63-21.)
So..... My previous reviews could not even get me a seat? Â LOL! Â (Joking) Â
I guess I should have never told ya'll that this is the best place to watch the game, and the only Sports Grill with great food, cause it actually really is. Â A suggestion is that when coming to watch the game, come early. Â Sully's rocks as previously advised. Â :)
We went to Abuelo.
Now this is a sports bar!
I've come here twice so far, and I can say that I think the changes from Fowl Digits to Sully's is a good one. Expanded menu, expanded bar (with nice craft beers), quality ingredients. What's not to like?
To start, the burgers are very good. I'll still be eating Stover Bros, Tai, and Burger House on occasion, but these burgers definitely have their place. I got grilled onions, avocado, tomato and lettuce on mine and it was great! I didn't even need cheese (although cheese never hurts).
The Rib-eye cheese steak was very tasty, the wings are very good (try the Sully's sweet and smoky sauce) and the chicken strips are as good as before.I also was a big fan of their bacon cheese fries and poblano poppers. They had a unique taste to them and were not just plain-old cheese.
This is the nicest sports bar in College Station with it's great food, 1000 televisions and nice craft beers. When they greet you at the door with a Howdy, you know you're in Aggie Land.
