I'm definitely happy that someone finally decided to try this concept in CS. Â This concept has been wildly successful in Denver and Boulder, as well as all over the country. Â Unfortunately, this "barcade" seems like amateur-hour compared to the others I've seen.
They have managed to create a good bar with a nice atmosphere. Â They have good selection of local beers, as well as PBR, etc. Â The food is surprisingly good. Â The bar staff does a great job.
The main issue it that the actual arcade is terrible. Â Over 1/3 of the games do not work properly. Â You can't move UP on Ms. Pac Man. Â Sinistar continually resets. Â Tapper doesn't work most of the time, and even when it will turn on, the controls are broken. Â Raiden, Stargate and Ghosts & Goblins all need the monitors fixed badly. Â The controls on Raiden click so badly, it is essentially unplayable. Â Qbert overheats regularly. Â Tempest has been dead since they opened. Â Many of the games don't work at all. Â They certainly need some tech help, and obviously need to commit more capital to the arcade. Â They have apparently bought a bunch of random, cheap, broken games from Craigslist.
The game selection is awful. Â Only about 1/3 of the games even belong in a vintage arcade. Â I think the owners just aren't in touch with what people want to play. Â They only have one pinball, it's a terrible one, and it doesn't work. Â That's surprising and disappointing, especially with the recent surge in pinball interest among the hipster crowd.
If you love vintage arcades like I do, Supernova might be worth a brief look, if you're in the area. Â Unfortunately, this place is mostly just wasted potential. Â Go check out the1UP in Denver if you want to see this concept done properly.
I will now be moving out of my house and living in the back of Supernova. I effing LOVE this place! came here on a whim last night and I can say that it's my favorite bar in Colorado Springs. This "Arcade" bar has some really great classics such as Mortal Combat, Pac Man and Galactica. But one of my favorite things about it is the Juke Box. It has online access to thousands of songs allowing you to listen to absolutely everything. And what's even cooler is you can pay just a little bit more for your song to be played next!
The crowd in here is like one that I've never seen anywhere else. It seemed like it was mostly 30 and under, allowing me to feel at home. Now some may not understand, but I love any place where locals are and soldiers are not. I do not care for the testosterone and this place has none of it. I didn't have a chance to try the food but I had just eaten before coming in or else I would have for sure.
The beer selection was great! they didn't have too much on tap but they have tons of local beers from Left Hand, Bristol, New Belgium and a few others that I was too intoxicated to remember. They also have JELLO SHOTS!!!! Now this may seem disgusting or immature for you snobs. But I could care less and you can go elsewhere. I ate more than I care to remember. But damn were they good.
The service here is top notch, the bartenders are absolutely awesome and hilarious and this place will now become my go-to for as long as I'm in this city.
I like this place. Its probably the only bar I can stand going to. They have a good beer selection and the staff is nice. My only complaint is the game selection could be better. I hope they rotate some different games through. They have some of the classics but a majority of the games are ones that no one likes.
Review Source:Supernova, what a rad place! Â Small bar and grill with a bountiful selection of 80's and 90's video games most of which are still just a quarter! Â The draft selection is very limited, but they know a thing or two about beer. Â They offer a selection of Colorado craft beers from greats such as Avery, Bristol, and Ska.
Amber (the owner) was super sweet and hooked my friends and I up for my birthday.
Amber (the bartender) was sassy, fun, and she was really quick which is always a plus.
The only thing that was a bummer about Supernova = some of the games were not working, or working well (on Ms. Pacman couldn't go up. Â And getting it up is highly important). Â Area 51 was broken... Â I really wanted to kill some aliens!
Arcade games and beer, what's not to like? They had several of my forever favorites (Joust, Shinobi, Tapper, and Marvel vs Capcom) and a cozy selection of beer. Like someone else mentioned a couple of the games were busted, which is unfortunate. But they get the 5th star from me for making all the games cost only a quarter.
if I lived in the Springs I would visit this place regularly. Look into getting RoboTron guys!
This place might have some growing pains, but I would rather have that then see Colorado Springs lose its first arcade bar! The food is pretty good, pretty satisfying bar grub. Sure, we had some order problems and a wait because of a birthday party that came in before us, but hopefully those kinds of issues will be ironed out as time goes on. Who doesn't love competing for a high score so you can get a $20 bar tab? The arcade machines here are all pretty awesome, not your average crappy movie arcade with stack em' games or generic racer game X. There are some real classic gems here like Street Fighter II, Joust, Star Control, Missile Command, Tapper, Punch-Out, and so much more. If they can maintain these machines and fix the controls on some of the more fragile machines, this is heaven.
Oh, and we need more places to put down our beers in a barcade, but that's a minor gripe as well.
Really great concept but not well executed yet. When we went in, there were high schoolers sitting at the bar. Huge turn-off for grown-ups who want to go have a few drinks. Â That made us choose to eat elsewhere. Â Loved the game selection, unfortunately, several were broken. Â Still had a good time playing the games that were working and will try again as we know it's a new place and will hopefully improve with time.
