before I knew what good sushi was I would come here.. I can say the seaweed salad is at best the only thing I'd order there but I won't go back there.. the colors of the fish just were questionable.. service is really slow.. and seeing how many times they've failed health inspections shows they just don't care.. I'd say eat at your own risk

Food is OK. Nothing to brag about, but if you want sushi and Chinese that is not TOO expensive, it works.

Here they are AGAIN failing their restaurant inspection. I think this makes the 3rd time. My fav comment is "chef smoking in kitchen" - perhaps ashes are the secret spice to their dishes. Isn't someone smoking in the kitchen of a restaurant illegal now? Those poor employees and anyone who decides to eat here.

I don't order cooked food ever here because they were previously cited in their inspections for having "unlabeled/unidentified meats" and that to me in a Chinese joint is like an urban legend coming true. Seriously Yelpers, I recommend McDonalds over PoPo.

Slow service.  The sushi is not very good.  The Chinese dishes are decent.  They are overpriced.   If you want good sushi go to Sushi Gawa.

In Peoria, I'd probably rank their sushi the lowest. Sushi Popo has no competition with places in town like Happy Fish orSushi Gawa. If you're going to eat there I'd recommend that you not bother with the sushi and just have one of their dishes. However, if I was their owner I would get rid of either the Chinese food or Japanese food, and just do one. The menu seems to be quantity over quality.

Probably the best straight traditional Sushi place in Peoria.

They have a chinese menu as well, which is very good as well.

The service can be decidedly slow at times. Which kind of sucks because the food is very good, but if you're in a hurry, this place will devour your extra time...

This place can be expensive if you're a foody and want to try a bunch of different things, or you go with a bunch of people, and split the bill, all sharing the plates of Sushi. Some of the portions seem smallish for the price, but the sushi is usually very good.

The staff are nice if not a bit slow moving at times.

Excellent sushi and Chinese food! I mostly order sushi, and I think its one of the top places in Peoria - so I rate this one 5 stars for sushi. They have a big menu, so there is something for everyone. My favorite appetizer is the Agedashi Tofu (spelling?), and the big bottles of Japanese beer are always nice.

The downside is the terrible service. The staff is always very friendly, but not very attentive to their tables. You will probably have to wave your server down at least once for a refill on water or to ask for the check.

My favorite sushi in Peoria. Better than Gawa IMO. Tasty and well priced. Lots of other great menu options, but I always go for the sushi.

The food here is not bad, but it's not the best. I am giving this place two stars because the service here when I went w/ my sister was horrible. We literally had to wait for 30 minutes before someone even asked us what we wanted to order and brought us water. Then we never got our water refilled once. Maybe we went on an off night, but I haven't been back since and don't think I will be.

When I found out there was a sushi restaurant in the Peoria area, I was very excited.  However, after we got home (we chose to carry out) and sat down to eat, I was soon disappointed.  I ordered the 6 piece sushi combo, 6 piece nigiri and the choice of tekka or salmon maki.  The eel and the miso soup that came with the combo was about all that was worth our $50 tab.  The fresh fish a) smelled like fish...which everybody knows is never a good thing and b) some looked like it may have been partially cooked.  The sticky rice was too sticky and they put too much in the nigiri.  We also ordered shrimp fried rice and  shredded pork dish.  Both lack in flavor.

Overall, I do not recommend this place if you are use to quality sushi.  It was a learning experience and I am glad that I went so that I could cross this place off my list.

This review is for the Sushi ONLY.

Sure this place is cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.  The fish wasn't very fresh, the rolls were just bland wads of rice and the "fresh" salmon nigiri was partially cooked (like someone accidentally blanched it for 3 seconds).  The color of the salmon was an odd pale orange and tasted funny.  Consider paying $0.50-$1 more per plate going somewhere else.

Pretty sure it was the only sushi place when I lived in Peoria... And in the 4 months I was there, I only went here once.  But after I did I wasn't inclined to go back.

I don't remember it being particularly off-putting, but it just reminded me of how I couldn't wait to get back to Omaha to go to Sushi Japan...

Its nothing special. The atmosphere is bland, and the wait staff doesn't really invite you stay around to much. Not going back...even if it is the only place to sushi in peoria.

If you want any kind of oriental food with a serene atmosphere, this should be your first choice.  I have had both Chinese and Japanese selections from their menu and the food is always hot, excellent quality (even their crab rangoon is exquisite), and presented beautifully.  The staff is very respectful and will give you your space.  The menu is completely in English with lots of pictures and the items are very affordable, with the Sushi being a little more pricey than your average entree (but reasonably priced for Sushi!). Also, they have plenty of Vegetarian choices.  I have probably eaten here 5 times in the last 6 months and it has been consistently wonderful!

Sushi Popo is a pretty good place.  This place serves both Japanese & Chinese food.  The sushi is probably going to be the best that you can get in the Central Illinois area and their other dishes are pretty good too.  Overall, I have been here many times while here at Bradley and I would go back again.
