We came here to see Bernie Worrell and Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads fame. Â I thought this might make up for missing David Byrne playing in Kansas City while I vacationed in Marin. Â Well, we arrived about 45 minutes before the place was supposed to close, so we only had to pay for one ticket. Â We saw a show all right! Â In addition to some funkadelically cool music, I was able to watch about 250 children of the 80s jump up and down (dancing?) and act a fool in the peaceful town of Mill Valley. Â Who knew? Â
But on to the actual venue. Â Sweetwater has called other locations "home," but this one is pretty cool. Â It is simply a big room with a bar on one end and a stage on the other and a wooden floor in between. Â My guess is it holds 250-300 standing, tops. Â Outside is a nice-sized patio for people who want to get a breath of fresh air and have some conversation. Â Based on the noise and the traffic, I am surprised it is allowed to exist in this location, but it doesn't bother me since I don't live nearby. Â
I am happy to have discovered Sweetwater, as it gives us a live-music option when we visit Marin in the summers!
Went to the Sweetwater for the first time to see Holly Williams last night. It was a casual atmosphere, the food was good, the cost of admission and dining bill fantastic and the seating up close and personal. We saw Holly at Grand Ole Opry 3 weeks earlier where she only sang 3 songs. We were thrilled to get the full show last night. Looking forward to her rise in fame!
