Steak was overcooked (I anticipated that so ordered it rare, and it still came out with hardly any pink) and salad came with unannounced bacon bits. If there's anything that you can assume will not have pork on it, it's house salad, right? Wrong!
I asked the server what the Burning River beer was like, and he said, "i don't know. We just got it." So either this guy forgot, or is lazy, or the owner/manager needs to know that it's important to let your servers TRY THINGS SO THEY KNOW WHAT THEY TASTE LIKE SO PEOPLE CAN ORDER THEM MAYBE?
My companion ordered an iced tea with vodka which she finished about half of before the waiter "refilled" the glass with water. We finally flagged him down about 7 minutes later and he laughed it off and said "Oh, I know, the bar's making a new one." 15 minutes later we get the new one -- after dinner is finished.
The food was fine. But the service was amateur hour, through and through. I wouldn't come back.
Drawback - you have to pay for parking.
Not worth going downtown for. Â All in all food is pricey for what you get but it is ok..not great. Â I had a cuban. Â Waitress was very sharp at tending to the table 4 stars for her
its ok not great. Â They have a stage so it looks like they have live music - just not when I was there.
When we arrived, the restaurant tables were empty and a few people were seated at the bar. We were seated on the patio area. The waitress took our drink and appetizer order immediately. Appetizers arrived, but no drinks. She said she would be right out. Â A bit later, we began wondering where our drinks were and we looked inside. The waitress was seated at the bar talking to others. My partner walks inside and she says, 'ready for another drink?' He says to her, 'we haven't received the first order of drinks yet.' She apologized and said they would be right out. Our dinner arrives and still no drinks. We were her only table and she bailed on us.
The food was okay, not fantastic. I won't be going back.
Table 44 is a mix between a trendy bar and a casual place to gather with friends and talk. As I start to venture into the downtown scene more and more, I'm finding that there are a number of great places to go and live. (Something I wish I realized 3 years ago).
The crowd at there seems to be everything from regulars to visitors, and all are welcome. Some come just to eat, just to drink, listen to a live band, or just to make a friend. While I did not experience it, it seems as though this is the kind of place where if you park up at the bar for a drink, the person next to you would engage in some pleasantries. The nice wooden look to the bar and the surrounding area gives it a classy look which brings out a classier crowd - doesn't seem like the kind of place where a bar fight would break out.
I went there for dinner and drinks, and I found the prices to be moderate. This is not 'fine dining', but it's a good place to go on a casual date or night out, or to just meet up with a group of friends.
A burger or sandwich of sorts will throw you back about $8-10 which includes great fries and a hardy cut of meat and fresh veggies on top. They also have some seafood and pasta dishes on the menu as well, so there is a little of something for everyone. I asked for a medium black & blue burger, and it came out perfectly. Having a big appetite, I ate the whole burger, but struggled finishing the fries - but I tried for sure.
My night there panned out well with starting inside for a couple of drinks and listening to the band doing hit cover songs and then progressing outside to the patio for a meal and hanging out with friends. The staff, the atmosphere, and the overall attentiveness to creating and promoting an enjoyable atmosphere will bring me back again.
Rude staff, barely average food and completely overpriced. Â I went against my better judgement and gave it one last try this week and left asking myself "What was I thinking?!?" Â It was an awful experience. Â I won't be going back. Â No thank you. Â
The thing that upsets me the most is that with this place being so close to the stadium and arena, folks from out of town are going there. Â I'm afraid it's (mis)representing what Toledo has to offer. Â And after Toledo just got such bad publicity from Forbes, I feel like Table 44 only confirms that. Â Dang it.
My food was delicious, but the service was awful. It took foreever to get our drinks as well as food. Granted we went on the day before Thanksgiving so they were busy but the server wasn't even apologetic and didn't bring us things we asked for repeatedly.
Plus, all our drinks bar drinks were made wrong. My friends "dirty martini" came in a highball glass without an olive and was completely the wrong color. We thought it was a misorder by the waitress but when he went to the bar itself, the drink was still made poorly.
The saving grace was that the manager (I assume though he never said) was SUPER nice and helpful.
You'll have a good meal, but you'll probably get subpar service.
Visiting from out of town, a group of us stopped in for lunch and we pleasantly seated in an area with hot air blowing on us (we walked in the rain).
The menu had something for everyone in our group. I got the burger and fries and was quite pleased with the portions.
Our server seemed to be a little overwhelmed at having a party of nine (but the place was pretty empty) so maybe he was just having a bad day.
Overall a good experience and one of the better places I had while in town.
I am only giving this place 3 stars for the reasons that it was my first time there, and I only ordered small things. I am by no means saying that Table 44 hasan overall 3-star rating. However, I am more than willing to go back to try more of, what sounded like excellent food.
Our service that evening was a little slow, but it didn't diminish the attractive food choices Table 44 had to offer.
I experienced the Smokehouse Chili and shared a chips and guac appetizer. The chili was meaty and filling, with a cool dollup of sour cream and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese to offset the slight "bite" and "heat" that hit my taste buds.
The restaurant seems like a "fine dining" location because of the low lighting and dark wooden floors. But the center bar that contributes to the moderate noise of the restaurant gives it an easy-going air. It's a great place for adults to meet for lunch/dinner, but I wouldn't consider it a "family dining" restaurant.
I like this place.
Not the most exotic/extensive menu - but it works. Â I got a nice tasty filet mignon that was cooked properly. Â Sat outside . . watched the fans departing from stadium.
I like the atmosphere. Nice looking place.  There is an outdoor area with A/C vents.  The indoors is spacious.  There was a good sized bar with a lot  of folk sitting around on a WED night.
I live downtown so I eat here fairly often. Table 44 got off to a shaky start, kind of like what Bar 145 is going through right now. After several missteps they seem to have managed to achieve consistency. I usually eat at the bar. I have found the best time to go in there is mid-afternoon/early-evening on the weekends, but I also visit there on weekday evenings as well.
I usually stick to the sandwich menu. I've tried them all and with the exception of the Philly, they are all pretty good. My favorite entree is the Cardinal Steaks. I would avoid the "garlic" mashed potatoes, "cajun" cole slaw, and stuffed chicken. Do they use the words "garlic" and "cajun" sarcastically? I don't know.
Best appetizers are the mussels, ravioli, and brie -- not that those are hard to screw up. The homemade clam chowder is awesome, too.
Really I guess this should be more of a 3 star review, but downtown Toledo badly needed this restaurant. It is a welcome step-up from the Blarney (with comparable prices and better food).
Anyway, please check it out and support downtown businesses. Good luck on Saturday night, though, as there is usually a 2.5+ hour wait (and there is a reason for that!).
Update: What the hell happened to this place? Disregard the above.
Food was tasty and fairly priced. Menu was clear and well thought-out. Atmosphere left much to be desired. Seems unnecessarily crowded for a good sized dining room. I understand the de-constructed look but only serves to create a loud, echo-ey environment. The owners/managers appeared to be attentive to staff and patrons, Â although watching the one gentleman habitually smoke cigarettes outside the main entrance was less than appealing. We were a party of 8, our waitress took it upon herself to write in the 18% tip on the credit card slip. We VERY often tip much more than 18%, her ostentatious maneuver limited her gratuity. If you are looking for what you think people might think is a "hot" spot, Table 44 is your spot. Myself, if a second visit somehow happens I will likely take the food "to go"
Review Source:I can't say enough about this place, IT WAS GREAT! For starters the we had the 'Duck Wings' and the waiter recommendation of 'Rock Island Shrimp'. The wings where actually duck wings and soooo good. Came in a sweet Teriyaki sauce on a bed of cellophane noodles. I think I ended up eating most of them. The Shrimp was simply deep fried shrimp with an insanely spicy dipping sauce. Nothing special here. There is a lot of Veal and seafood on the menu with a decent hot sandwich selection. I went with something called 'The Cardinal'. Beef medallions, a mushroom cap, red pepper, wrapped with bacon with Gorgonzola cheese on top. I had this medium rare with a side of garlic mash. The first bite was pure ecstasy. The bacon kept the meat juicy and the creamy cheese on top was more like butter in consistency. The mushroom/pepper combo really complimented this perfect. I washed this all down with a Stella Artois. Even had my beer out of a Stela gold rimmed glass.
The atmosphere itself was relaxed sports bar that caters to an upscale crowd. If I am in the area again I will definitely come back for that light night meal. YUM!
Table 44 has a split personality to accommodate the wide range of crowd and regulars. It can be a sit-down restaurant if you hadn't eaten and have a hankering for sandwiches, seafood, pasta, etc. It can also be a bar if you're looking to grab drinks, peoplewatch, and enjoy the live band.
While I wouldn't necessarily call Table 44 "fine dining", the place does boast an eclectic (and tasty) menu guaranteed to please even a discriminating taste. The curried swordfish was phenomenal, as was the hefty portion of fries that accompanied it.
Other plusses include: Â friendly and personable staff, parking (lot for $3), and atmosphere in general. I can definitely see the patio being a hit in the upcoming warmer months.
If -- like me -- venturing to Downtown Toledo is beyond your comfort zone, give Table 44 a whirl. You just might be pleasantly surprised at what this place holds.
The service is slow and generally crappy--and that is regardless of how busy the restaurant is. The food isnt great but it's cheap. So you get what you pay for in this case. Also, the acoustics are horrible when there are more than 3 people in the place due to the tin ceilings and the layout of the place. You have to yell to have a conversation with your party.
Review Source:AVOID
First let me say I usually avoid writing negative reviews if at all possible. Â I am making an exception for this place.
Last night a group of us had reservations for 5:30. Â We had a hockey game to get to at 7 but felt we had plenty of time. Â We were seated at 5:30 and were probably 1 of 6 groups in the whole place. Â It was pretty empty. Â Our server was pretty slow. He greeted us about 15 minutes after we were seated. Â He took our drink orders which took another 10-15 minutes. Â We ordered beer so should not have been hard to get. Â Our server dropped off our drinks and did not take our order. Â No problem as it was about 6pm and we had plenty of time and were talking with our friends.
The time finally came for us to place our order. Â We found out later that we ordered at 6:15. Â We still felt we had enough time so we ordered more drinks and waited.
Now things go south. Â It is 6:50 and we are still waiting for our food. Â We ask our server to check on it. Â He does and comes back and says it is coming out now. Â We are getting frustrated at this point but wait a few more minutes. Â It is now 6:55 and no food. Â A guy from our party goes and talks to the manager. Â He tells the manager that we have been waiting for an hour(he estimated, we were not watching the clock). Â The manager goes into the kitchen, which I expected him to return with our food. Â Nope. Â He comes to our table and informs us that we ordered at 6:15 and it had not been an hour. Â Really!?!? Â So it had only been 45 minutes. Â How is that good service? Â 45 minutes is ridiculous. Â We still did not have our food mind you. Â After the manager has a couple more words with my buddy, my friend cancels our order. Â As we leave the resteraunt my friend tries to tell the manager that all he had to do is apologize. Â The managers tells my friend and I quote "get the fuck out of my resteraunt.". Â I have never been so badly treated in my life.
Do not go to this place if you want any kind of good service. Â If you have 3-4 hours to kill than this might be the place for you.
I'm a pretty big fan of Table 44, although I wish it were in a different location (perhaps towards the mall, somewhere on Central, further up Monroe, or Talmadge), because parking isn't the easiest to find near the restaurant. The food was pretty good. The night I was there I had a turkey burger. We sat outside and the atmosphere is pretty nice. (Of course, give me a late summer night and a tall table with a few cocktails and good food any night). The menu is pretty diverse and somewhat large, without being too overwhelming or needing 15 minutes to just review each entree. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Their website is pretty pointless, as the menu does not seem to work half the time when you click on it and the information on the website is fairly vague.
Interesting menu of appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees.  The mussel in lobster sauce appetizer was great.  Decor: old Toledo  architecture: metal stamped ceilings, wood floors, and exposed brick walls. Unfortunately this makes for a very very noisy restaurant. The music and staff dumping dishes into busboy bins doesn't help.  Overall the food is pretty good as is the bar. Unlike some other reviews, service was fine.  However avoid Table 44 if conversation is part of your dinner plan.
Review Source:So far I have been fairly impressed with Table 44. Â The food has been good, the service has been good and the atmosphere is really nice. Â
It is nice to have a little bit nicer place downtown, yet still not what I would consider a fancy, expensive place. Â
It has a great patio when the weather is nice. Â It is a nice change of pace from most of the bars in the warehouse district and am hoping that they will be able to maintain the quality that I have seen so far.
The inside is great - a warm place. Â We ate outside and the service was POOR. Â We ordered two appetizers - the Fried Green Tomatoes were outstanding. Â The caso dip was poor. Â We had to ask three times for plates for the appetizers. Â The chips were a mix of three or four day old soggy chips and fresh crisp chips. Â My wife ordered the Rubin and I had the blackened Grouper. Â Her sandwich was just sliced meat stacked up - so so. Â The blackened Grouper was so hot in spice I could not even tell if there was any fish taste to be had. Â It could have been on Carp and taste the same! Â Well at least we tried a new place - and to think these are the same people who run the Chop House. Â Never Again!
Review Source:First time dining here. Took a couple of friends along before we headed to the Mud Hens game. Couldn't wait to try it after reading and hearing so many rave reviews.
Well, as experience has taught me, Toledoans will eat just about anything and think it's wonderful - especially if they can get huge portions for a perceived low price.
Started off by greeting the owner outside who had stepped away from his host duties to have a smoke in front of the restaurant's open door - so all the smoke could blow back into the restaurant. Tacky. I knew he was the owner because I recognized him from the parent restaurant in Maumee - the Chop House - a wonderful dining establishment. Too bad they didn't bring their talents along to Table 44.
First off, the place is EXTREMELY loud. All solid surfaces - no carpet or anything soft to help absorb the sound.
We started off with an appetizer of crab cakes - $9 - for two little crab cakes that were mediocre at best.
My buddy and I each ordered a Stella Artois draft. Served up very nicely in a Stell Artois stemmed glass with a gold rimmed top. Nice presentation. Lukewarm beer.
I ordered the Lake Superior Whitefish with a small house salad. My guests ordered a beef Reuben with fries and a cheeseburger with cole slaw respectively.
Dinners were served with nice presentation. My whitefish looked stunning draped across a bed of extremely greasy fries. Too bad it had no flavor whatsoever. No sign of my salad yet.
My guests semi-enjoyed their meals. My female friend said her burger was acceptable but the cole slaw was absolutely drowning in dressing.
My buddy said his Reuben was ok but his fries were inedible. Our server who was doing "drive bys" of our table - never stopped to actually hear our answers to her "Everything good here?" as she flew by to the next table. Granted, she was quite busy.
I managed to flag her down for my salad which turned out to be the best part of my meal. Nothing special - a few grape tomatoes and some baby greens but it sure beat the flavorless fish and fries dripping in grease.
We were all quite anxious to leave this establishment and finally flagged down our server for the check. Three meals, two beers and an ice tea with a $15.00 tip - $74.00.
Trust me folks, you can do much better in Toledo for that kind of money.
Will we go back? Perhaps. I believe most places deserve a second try but it won't be anytime soon I can assure you.
Try this place at your own risk. We should have stuck with our first thoughts and gone to Manhattan's or Manos Greek restaurant.
This is my new favorite place to eat downtown. Â My wife and I both work and live downtown, so we get really excited whenever a something new opens up in the area. Â I've eaten there numerous times, and the food has been amazing each and every time.
I will admit the service was a bit slow the first few times, but I think it's safe to chalk that up to it being a brand new restaurant. Â Also, It does get a little loud inside when the place is full. Â Finally, I was surprised to see that they allow smoking in their outside seating area. Â The smoke was never enough to bother me, though I'm fairly certain it isn't legal since the area is only open on one side.
Great addition to the downtown/warehouse district. One of the few more upscale eatery's in the area as most spots downtown are more pizza and beer sort of places. Table 44's interior has more of an upscale feel but the price are not. Prices are fairly reasonable. Sandwiches between $8-$12, while most entrees are between $10-$20. Drinks are extremely reasonable as well considering how nice of a place this is.
They did a fantastic renovation job on the interior. A very classy feel to it.
Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals. The fried ravioli was fantastic as were the crabcakes (though the portion left something to be desired for the price).
I would suggest to try something on the menu other than a steak. I had the fillet and my sister had the strip, we both enjoyed them quite a bit and they were technically proficent there was nothing really extraordinary. They were cooked to perfection, but there was absolutely nothing unique about them, no house seasoning or marinade. If you're in the mood for red meat they will certainly hit the spot, but it seemed like the other folks at the table were far more enthused by their dishes.
Overall, had a great time here the food wasn't amazing but it was good. Nothing about any of our dishes were extraordinary, just solid food so don't expect to be ushered into flavor country. Again for the price and quality this is a welcome addition to the downtown area.
Our 1st visit was their second day of business. Our server was delightful and very capable. Service was fast and the food was delicious. We were impressed and planned to go back.
Dinner out last night was at Table 44 again. We asked to be seated on the patio but the only table available was next to a six-topper with several people smoking. The smoke was awful so we moved inside.
I ordered fried ravioli which was delicious. My wife ordered the spinach salad. She said it was awesome! We decided to split a burger which also was very good. Our server was very much on top of the game. We'll go back!
