Great spot overlooking the park & river. Terrific beer selection and cheap eats. Will visit again next time we're in town.

Delicious food-organic options and lots of local ingredients-cool ambiance, I'd definitely go again.

Food [pictures of all of these dishes can be found below]-I had the fish tacos, it was a huge serving with two giant pieces of white, beer battered fish. It was served with a salsa, sour cream, and tortilla chips. The only thing it was missing was a lime wedge. But by far the best dish I tasted, was the dish my sister ordered-chicken enchiladas. They were very unique in that they had some sort of corn meal in them, sounds strange, but it was out of this word good. My brother got buffalo wings, they were also great. My mom ordered a brie and bleu cheese burger, her only complaint was that it was over cooked (but she ordered it well-done, so more of an ordering issue than a cooking issue). The beer battered fries were also divine.

Service-A little slow. It was a busy Sunday night, a lot of guests, and they seemed understaffed. We ordered sodas, and only half of the table got refills, our waitress kept forgetting the other half, which was a little strange. But overall, friendly service.

Ambiance-The place had a cool vibe. They have a huge selection of beers and ales they make in their own Montana distillery (I don't drink alcohol, so I can't attest to the quality), but even though it was part bar, I felt like it was a good family place. They had seating in the back with lots of families and kids. It was a little crowded for my 9 mos old's stroller, but that's really my only complaint.

Beer was good, not great. Best buffalo chicken strips we've ever had.  The salmon was very good also. We received good, not great service, but the food more than made up for it.

I really like the beer options here.  All the tv's make it great for sporting events.  Their food is good but i wouldn't say its amazing. You can also sit on the deck which is great during the summer months

I imagine that this place is awesome in the summer, when you can sit overlooking the river. In the winter, it was still awesome, but the view was March Madness on giant flat screens.

The food was also incredible. We had perfect salmon on top of creamy mashed potatoes with a maple sauce. The green beans on the side were so good I would order a whole plate of them! I also ordered a steak sandwich on the beer flat bread. I didn't really like it that much, though, because the flat bread was so chewy. So, get the salmon, not the sandwiches!

I got overwhelmed with nostalgia going into the men's bathroom where it just so happens that in that same place a decade earlier, when this location housed the dirtiest "club" called The Boardroom, I had vomited all over the toilet seats and got some nice chick named Carl to make out with me both in the same night.  You are only 21 once I suppose.

Also hard to take this place seriously when just an hour North there is the parent brewery that has the same menu items and somehow makes their food and beer better???  Hmmm?

I've been here a half dozen times, including the Super Bowl recently, and it's a comfortable Missoula joint for young people and families.  The food has always been good (I'd say 3.5-4 star for bar food) and they've got a wide range of options, from burgers to salads.  The flat bread pizza appetizer with sundried tomatoes and mushrooms  is a good choice to start off, or just have with a beer.  As far as the beer goes, though, the brews are a bit too straight forward for me.  Not enough complexity or depth of flavor.  They've got a great selection of ales (from IPA, to plain ole Pale Ale, to Porter, to Amber, to White, to Rye, etc) but I've never been much impressed with the execution.  The beers tend to have some flavor up front, in that first sip, but it quickly dissipates and doesn't offer anything as you breath in.  No rich florals or citrus of the hops or deep dark malts or nutty grassy tones from the wheat or rye.  Totally drinkable, don't get me wrong, but I don't got down to Tamarack to get my beer fix.   I go there to hang out with a friend after a long hike.  The staff is friendly, helpful, and I always feel comfortable sitting back and watching the sun set over Lolo.

Tamarack is definitely a restaurant I find myself at often. The soup, salad, and half a sandwich deal for $10.95 is one of the best deals in town! In addition, I've never had bad service at this restaurant. It provides a nice quiet atmosphere upstairs, while there is also a lower floor with multiple televisions for watching sports. This is definitely a great place to hang out. I recommend it.

Just because you serve large portions does not make it good. The burrito could feed a family of 5, but it is bland mushy pork, and the sauce is boring.  I came back one more time to try the happy hour, and the wings are dry with no fire to speak of.

I am giving Tamarack three stars because their beer is good and their food is sub-par.  I have been there more than a few times for food and beer and I was disappointed with the eats that came to the table almost every time.

Some of the good things I have had to eat here were the Dirty Cajun Shrimp and Railroad Ties; in my opinion, one should stay away from the Buffalo Chicken Strips...while the homemade beer batter is crispy and delish, when it's drenched in sauce, it gets soggy and gross fast.  I would also stay away from the Brew Bread sandos...just not very impressive.

The beer is good but this place still needs to sell me on the food.

My husband and I sat upstairs on a Sunday afternoon and it was absolutely fantastic. The waitress was very knowledgable about beer and extremely prompt with our orders. We ordered the nachos which were absolutely fantastic and way more food for even two people to share for lunch. I would recommend this place for beer lovers but also those who love great food and an easy going atmosphere.

Tamarack offers an excellent variety of beer, amazing food and friendly staff who are eager to share with the community! The atmosphere is friendly and casual, its right in the heart of downtown and overlooks the beautiful Clark Fork River!

Go here for the outstanding beers but stick around for the food. I sampled both the Scotch Ale and the German Kolsch and  both were true to style and exceptionally well made.  For lunch i had the mixed green salad topped with baked Brie and Montana bacon, it was one of the best salads i have had in a while and it was more than a meal.

I gave the Tamarack Alehouse & Grill my usual minimum three visits prior to passing judgment.  After all, any place can have a bad night when everything goes wrong.  But, after gathering in my three "experiences," I have to conclude the TA&G falls right in line with the common problem that runs rampant in Missoula eateries, pretty much across the board... management and staff training is seriously lacking.

It is painfully obvious that the employees are missing some basic customer relations skills.  While those I encountered proved to be friendly, helpful, and generally outgoing, I had to be the one to initiate any interaction.  Had I not; I'm pretty sure they would be little more than order takers, attired  --again as with most locally-owned operations--  as though they had just come in from mowing the lawn, and busily texting away between their duties of having to tend to that necessary inconvenience: customers.

The overall ambiance of the downstairs bar is okay.  It's large and has a sense of being someone's basement, but with a bit of creative lighting management, its fine.  Upstairs, the bar is small and a tad "industrial" with little or no warm/fuzzy appeal.  It's located at the front of the building.  'Should have been at the back where a view of park and river would be possible rather than of cars racing down Front Street.  And, of course... again as seems common to all Missoula saloons... the patron population is well laced with everything from cardigan-clad senior citizens out for a bite with the kids and grandkids to out-of-character-for-the-ambiance, Marlboro-scented, Rastafarian wannabes, bent on seeing just how many shots can be consumed prior to the sun setting...  for no particular celebratory reason.

The Tamarack is clearly in business to hawk the operation's micro brews and as such, the food is... well... the usual "second reason" fare.  Good enough, and priced there as well.  Admittedly, I have more investigation to do on that.  Their micro-brewed beers are fun to visit and... subject to your personal palate of course... all seem to offer an enjoyable memory.

Went here for happy hour with some peeps, and  I was actually surprised at how good the food was here. I don't drink, so part of what makes this place awesome is, I would assume, the tasty beers. They did have a non-alcoholic beer for me, but it was Kaliber, which is easily the worst N/A beer out there. People think that because it's made by Guiness that it is good. Not the case.

The fish tacos are super good, so I'd say try those. They fill you up as well. Took the server a minute to get to me, but all in all, service was decent.

    Good experience

Lots of TVs to watch while you get your fill on good food.  Was referred to this restaurant by a local and it was as good as he said. Big portions, decent prices and a huge variety.

Really good IPA to help wind down after a long drive.  Also enjoyed the chile verde burrito, which was huge, and good, but not great.  If I lived closer, I'd go more often than once a year : (

Overlooking a park and river, this brewing company was a delightful treat after a long day in the car. We were in need of some good beer and good eats. We arrived to find happy hour in full swing. We sampled some local beers and shared the spicy calamari, quesadillas, and rack flatbread. Since we managed to get during happy hour, we found an amazing deal. The flatbread was particularly good.

The inside of the brewery has a nice ambiance too and a number of tvs for game watching.

Sitting here finishing my beer and I just had to review. I came up from Bozeman and the restaurants there could really learn something from Missoula. First thing: service here today was fantastic! Our server/bartender was very nice and quick to help me with the beer selection, explaining all the different brews in detail. The food menu had a little bit of everything but each item had their own special twist. Every beer we tried was delicious and the burger was cooked perfectly without even having to specify a temp. Blue cheese and garlic fries were tasty and the portion was huge.
    Overall excellent service
    Delicious beer
    Impressive food
    Very pleasant staff

Wow, this place is pretty great. I came here with the family for the Sunday Brunch and the food was great. I had the Breakfast BLT and it was fantastic. Crispy thick bacon and great bread. The Veggie sandwich was really great as well. Fresh produce and lots of flavor. I would absolutely come back next time in Missoula.

Sadly this place clearly retained some of the "meat market" clientele from the multiple booty-bars previously in its place - and don't fool yourself, this is NOT a "brewery." It is a retail location to sell only Tamarack beers, brewed 108 miles away in Lakeside. This is how they circumvent the 8pm closing rule for all Montana breweries. Their Hat Trick IPA and Rye Sally Rye Pale Ales are pretty good, but otherwise their beer is only average. If it wasn't for all the drunk kids the food may taste better, but I can't enjoy a good meal if you have to yell at each other to overpower the noise.

I am new to the area and had been looking for a great spot to eat and drink. Tamarack does the trick, and more. Their beer is solid ( I will fault them for often times being out of multiple beers, but it is always busy there) the yard sale amber is a great beer to go with any meal. Speaking of food. It's great here! Very well priced and huge portions! My friends and I ordered the nacho's for an appetizer, and it fed four of us until we couldn't eat any more (had to take our entrees togo!) The service has always been top notch as well. In the last month I have come here around 6 times, each time has been awesome! keep it up

Really enjoyed the food, the brew and the weather! The portions are huge so order appropriately (and we were hungry after a mountain bike ride). Definitely recommend this brewery! Music was good, too.

space is well located in town, and patio is nice spot to spend some time - either upstairs or downstairs.  service was very good, food was large portions, and tasty.  I had a buffalo burger, and table split some nachos.  beers are cold, and tasty.  try the hat trick hop.  thanks for hosting the beer run

I eat here often and have only had a couple bad experiences. You can't beat the wings, there is enough for two people to eat.
If your really hungry get the Verdi burrito you will not go away hungry!
For lunch get the soup and sandwich it is awesome.
Yes sometimes they are out of certain beers but hey get a different one or a well drink and quit wining.
Avoid the fish &chips, the white fish is tasteless and coated with too much batter that hold grease, nasty.
But I do eat here anywhere from1to 5times a month.
    ILoveThis Place!

We wamted to do at least one beer tasting in Missoula.
The beer tasting was terrific for less $10.00 we tasted no less than 9 beers, all of which were interesting and some were fantastic.

We didn't stay for food (although I wanted to) but the fish taco the woman sitting at the bar beside us ordered looked  and smelled fabulous!

We will definitely go back for the beer and this time  a lunch when we do our annual May in Montana drive south.

Yes, this is a must stop for Tourists because behind the restaurant is The Carousel.  There are also a few shops in the vicinity but the main stroll is down the hill where the river runs by the carousel and the children's play park are fun just to look at!

Completely inconsistent in service.  The bar downstairs tends to be quicker and is great for grabbing a beer and watching some sports.  Lunch service and the upstairs section is horrible.  Food is overall drab, and the brew bread is often undercooked.  I will say they have a good plate of nacho's and craft beer.  Overall avoid as a lunch and dinner location, but stop by for a beer if you are looking for a place to watch your team.

I come here a lot to eat. The upstairs restaurant gets a lot better service than the downstairs, which I find a bit odd. The portions are huge and tasty every time. If you want a food challenge, try the Verde Burrito! It's a Goliath-like challenge! The beer is good and the happy hour is also decent. I definitely recommend this place for the after work beer!

A great revamping of the numerous eateries upstairs and a great den for sports fans downstairs.  Great food that incorporates the beer lover lifestyle Missoula is becoming famous for.  Service is great both up and down and you'll always have a friendly face.  The back patio upstairs in the evening is an amazing place to watch the sunset over the Clark Fork.  Must stop for any out-o-towner!

Wow, wow, wow. Great big remodeled two-floor showpiece of a place. Gorgeous construction, thoughtfully laid out for staff and patrons alike. Schmany bathrooms. Comfortable everything. Nice light. Tons of flat screens. Clearly, having a successful NHL veteran own you makes you a nice-looking restaurant.

The beers are very good. A little milder and more accessible than a couple other breweries in town, a little more mainstream appeal, but still pretty good for the beer nerd. They're served quickly, with knowledge and enthusiasm, by kids who do not appear to be even old enough to drink. But how young they look says more about how old I am than it does about them.

The food is great. Fantastic burgers, good happy hour specials, good bites of this and that. Pub grub done very well. The place gets packed, but not rowdy. You can bring virtually anyone here and have a great time.

To sum up my experience in two words, Completely Underwhelmed. The service was slow and inattentive and the food was completely unimpressive for the price. I had the Prime Rib dip sandwich with salad. The sandwich was greasy and the meat was dried out and the sandwich was plain. I had their house dressing which I would not recommend. This is my second time trying this restaurant and my last as the first trip wasn't any better. I'd walk the extra few blocks to the Iron Horse next time. Their menus are similar but the food is worlds apart.

Brew: had the IPA, it was hoptastic.
Food: buffalo chicken strips and beer battered fries, overall tasty but the   chicken came out mildly warm, I like my phoood piping HOT. Fries were good but the portion size was ridiculously excessive.
I would eat there again for sure.

First off, I want to say that this place is pretty good and I will go back for a second go to try other things out.

I didn't have a beer, so I can't give you a review on that, but of what I've heard, it's pretty good. Now for the food: I had the PETA brew bread. Not what I thought it was going to be. It was kind of bland and was served in a pita-type bread, which was not what I imagined. The bread was a little overwhelming but good when dipped in my salad dressing. The toppings and aioli could of had a little more seasoning. I would recommend trying something else unless you are not very adventurous. A couple of my friends ordered the classic chicken strips and fries and they looked rockin'. Fries were really good.

The service was ok. I think they are still working out the kinks, it just recently opened. There was only two servers on one floor and the place was packed, so I know she was really busy.

After so many great experiences at the brewery in Lakeside, what a disappointment things are in Missoula. Yes they just opened and they will have some growing pains, but don't open until you have a well trained staff. The service and the food here is awful. The Beer however is good. We were a party of 7 that was seated promptly at 5pm by a very rude and unfriendly hostess which was followed by servers not knowing who had what tables. The menu appears impressive, however the servers had zero knowledge to answer questions. I ordered the salmon,,,,,,terrible ...dry and no flavor with side items I did not ask for. The problems were fixed over time and we all left wishing we had eaten down the street at Bigga Pizza. The bottom line is they are overwhelmed by the the number of people wanting to dine and they are not trained or have no experience. It will be a long while before we return here.

Lanny McDonald knows how to throw an establishment together. Huge improvement from the Board Room and such a bonus that they scored the liquor license so you can dabble in their brews and or mixed drinks! Sit down environment upstairs, bar scene downstairs with a ton of Tv's!
If you like hockey this is one of the few places in town with the NHL on the fly package and they always have Versus on!

Highly recommend stopping by for an Old Stash Porter! See the photos for a preview!

After such a great experience on Tuesday, it's hugely disappointing to have such a bad one just a few days later.

The food and beer was good, but the treatment from staff was appalling.

I will NOT be going back for awhile. Hopefully by the time I do, the staff knows enough to not give paying customers a time limit on how long they can sit at their table.
