I am new to wine bar scene and after visiting Tastes of the Valleys while on my honeymoon, I'm wondering what the heck took me so long!
It is such a great way to discover new varieties of wine while staying withing your taste range. I wish I had gotten the name of the woman who helped my husband and I, because she was great; very informative and friendly. It's a pretty small place but it's cozy, not cramped.
I told her when we walked in that we had never been to a wine bar before, but that we prefer red wines. She suggested we do something called a Flight (like a wine sampler, there were 6 one ounce pours). I'm so glad we did it this way because they have something like 700 wines to chose from, we would have been there all night trying to decide. After all of our sampling, we decided to buy 3 bottles and we went home happy.
If you happen to be a wine lover in the Pismo Beach area, definitely hit this place up. If I didn't live 6 hours away, I'd be there every weekend :)
Super cute place with over 700 different wines that you can try by the glass! Definintely a must if you love wine or are getting into it. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and the locals who come in are sincerely nice.
Guiseppe's is right next door so if you are waiting for a table or not I highly recommend checking this place out. Order the cheese platter - loved the balsamic vinger they put on the goat cheese!
For starters, I'd like to admit I'm not a wine connoisseur by any means (I know, a bad Italian!). Â When I enjoy a drink it's usually an icy-cold beer (craft brews preferred). With that being said, my good buddy has been wanting to stop by and check out Tastes of the Valleys, so we checked in on a warm and windy Sunday afternoon.
First impression is that the space is small, however, it's used extremely well. Wine bottles are stored carefully in beautifully crafted wine racks secured to the wall. A large mirror extends a good portion of the back wall, and is adjourned with witty quotes and wine pairing suggestions. The mirror was a nice touch as it adds a great degree of depth to the surrounding area.
The interior is well decorated, which creates an ambiance that welcomes you. It's truly a breath of fresh air from some of the local bars; you can relax and hold a intimate conversation with your friends or date.
We were instantly greeted when we arrived, and pulled up to a small table near the window. I was originally planning to pass on the wine, and let my buddy enjoy, however, the wine tender recommended a couple of wines I might enjoy, and she was right on! I bought a glass, and my buddy went with a sampling.
We also ordered the cheese platter, which I was pleasantly surprised with. I'd like to consider myself a quasi-cheese connoisseur, and find it hard to pass on a quality cheese plate. The cheese served was extremely tasty, fresh, and was paired with dried blueberries and apricots, as well as various other tasty treats. Â
Overall, I was extremely pleased with the experience!
We stopped in here on a whim. The women helping us was wonderful! Â She helped us through the menu and offerings. Â She also was very flexible when we absolutely didn't like/drink something :-). They have SOOO many other wines to buy it's a bit overwhelming. Â I just can't say what a wonderful selection they have here! Â The selection includes wine club only offerings and international wines (Spanish, Italian, Argentinian, etc.)
Review Source:We started out at Sans Liege and were the only two in the place. Didn't really enjoy the staff and it felt a bit stuffy. We walked over to Tastes of the Valley and when we walked in immediately felt comfortable. It has a very warm and comforting ambience and very friendly and engaging staff. It has a cute little cottage feel, small and cozy and an incredible wine selection. You can do a flight tasting or drink by the glass. The staff knew their stuff and the cheese plater with pistachios was to die for. Would 100% recommend if you are in Pismo to stop by here!
Review Source:Hands down the best wine shop/wine bar I've ever visited. Â The owner was there and made great recommendations. Â The rest of the staff was amazing and even helped us with dinner reservations at "The Cracked Crab." Â Prices were great and I'll be back often as this is within walking distance from my condo! Â
Check this place out! Â You will not be disappointed in the service, selection, and advice! Â
Thanks!
Now this was a very fun stop in the middle of a hot day. The whole building is crowded with an enormous selection of wine, with every bottle available to open if you want a glass. Once opened, it goes in the huge new stainless steel argon injecting auto taste machines. Seriously, what I wouldn't give to have one of those at home, but I bet they're expensive to buy and run. Due to that, the quality of every taste is near perfect.
You get five tastes for $7, two more if you check in. The server (owner?) was one of the more knowledgeable bartenders I've met, and she'll ask for examples of what you like, then find you some things you're likely to be interested in, starting with the most similar and getting broader as it goes. The bartenders were very good conversationalists too. As soon as they empty out one bottle they're always replacing it with something different; you can also get anything in the store open as long as someone is willing to have a full glass first, and there are hundreds of different labels available.
Oh, and prices are excellent. They state right on the price list that you should go ahead and check online discounters' prices if you want. I did and they really are about as low as it goes - don't pass them up just because they're brick and mortar, they understand good business.
I am writing an update on my previous review not because I have gone back to Taste of the Valleys, but because the owner of the store wrote me a personal email! Now that is good customer service! We spent the weekend up in Pismo to celebrate a BIG birthday. My husband and I loved the cheese platter with the salami. We also purchased the very cute Christmas ornaments made from wine cork! And I would go back next time I am up in Pismo!
Review Source:So glad I stopped at this wine shop on our wine tasting trip. I was able to pick up some bottles from wineries that we didn't make it to (Villa Creek and Turley). The customer service was amazing and based on what I went in wanting, Â I also left with some great recommendations. Small space but full of quality wines.
Review Source:A wine bar so good, I think twice before actually going wine tasting around Edna Valley or in the Paso Robles wine country. Why bother, when you can take a taste of 500 wines by the glass here? Knowledgeable staff and owner make tasting a total pleasure, especially if you want to do side-by-side varietal sampling. A good balance of California and import wines, with fabulous daily sales advertised via Facebook.
Hint: If you're on the wait list for a table at the Cracked Crab or Guiseppe's, you can tell them to call you on the bar phone or your personal cellphone, then while away the boring wait time with a glass or two here. Fab!
This place is the best. Lissa is extremely knowledgeable about wine and also has the unique ability to predict what you will like very quickly after meeting you. She has a phenomenal memory as well. There is a great variety of wine to taste and you will learn a lot without feeling overwhelmed. This is one of our favorite places in Pismo Beach. If you are waiting for your table at nearby restaurants, you must go here. If you want to do some wine tasting without leaving Pismo, this is the place to go. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly (especially Ash and Lissa) and the wine is amazing! You won't be sorry you stopped here and you will go back often.
Review Source:This place was great! Cindy was  behind the bar and she was so friendly. She gave us great recommendations and had these awesome little crackers for us to munch on throughout our tasting! Excellent wine selection and outstanding customer service! She even went to pick up cookies for us from a bakery 45 min away. Talk about going above and beyond.
If you're in Pismo Beach and need a nice indoor place to relax, this is the place. I felt perfectly at home at Tastes of the Valley.
Ash and his wife Liz are very knowledgeable, easy to talk to and very nice people. They have wines in all price ranges and they we're able to quickly access I like great wines at good prices. I always walk away from Taste of Valleys with wines as good at $100.00+ for $45-$60 (which is good but dangerous if you have a big wine fridge like me). Another thing I like about Ash is he will open up just about anything if he thinks you will like it and not pressure you at all to buy anything even if he opened up a special bottle. Â As you probably know, this is rare trait for a wine merchant. The atmosphere is comfortable, welcoming and there is wine everywhere. A perfect place to visit before or after a dinner, or a Sunday afternoon.
Review Source:Today, we  had a terrific time learning about different wines from the SLO region with the gracious help of the staff at Tastes. They were terrific, customizing a tasting that suited our specific needs and recommending different wineries to visit later during our stay.  Highly recommend stopping by and getting some local knowledge.
Review Source:Fantastic, well-edited selection. Ash is the perfect person to chat with wine about, and is always happy to share his favorites and recommendations, from the moderately priced deals to the exquisite high end treasures. Very fun, however, it gets crowded, so keep that in mind. You can always head over to Giuseppe's for a cocktail while you wait. Overall, a lovely addition to Pismo.
Review Source:Gotta say, this place surprised me  - and in a pleasant way.  It has a small bar with a few tables.  They have lots of wine options to taste from all over California and a small stash of wine to sell. I used the yelp checkin bonus and got 2 extra tastes of a nice mix of wines selected by the staff.  Even bought a few bottles to take home.
The store also has fun little goodies like games, knick knacks and goodies for sale. Â Got a few of those too...
Service was very personal and kind. Â They really made an effort to select things I would like, not just wine off a standard list.
Awesome place to taste and drink wine....so many choices...so little time.
We have really enjoyed ourselves each and every time we have tasted there. It is almost like a magnet, we are walking by to Guiseppes and all the sudden we find ourselves sucked into a happy wine vortex. Great and fun place, go belly up to the bar!
I got a group-on to Tastes of the Valleys as part of another package and wasn't expecting much of it, but man was I blown away. Cindy was fantastic, she customized our tastings and we were able to try about 8 different wines each. Â They were extremely accommodating letting us use our second group-on towards a bottle and even shipping a bottle for us. Cindy even provided us with a map of the Paso Robles wineries and circled all her recommendations for us to check out the next day. Will definitely be coming back on our next trip to Pismo !
Review Source:Stopped in at Tastes of the Valleys for a tasting over the weekend. The wine room is a little on the small side, but my husband and I didn't have any trouble finding a table when we got there around 7pm. We had a tasting for two pre-paid as part of a Groupon deal. We each tasted about 8 different wines. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The wines themselves were very tasty. I enjoyed just about everything we had. They also had a guitar player which created a nice ambiance. Overall a cute wine shop perfect for a drink or two before dinner! If you're in the area, I definitely recommend checking this place out.
Review Source:We didn't know where to go in Pismo Beach and decided to try a wine bar as somewhere where we would start our night. Â
We got to Taste of the Valley at 6pm, and didn't leave the place until 10pm. Â The owner, "Ash and Lissa" were unbelievable. Â
We had the best  wine and the best service.  We ended up having one of the best nights we have had in a while. Â
if you are in Pismo, come to Taste of the Valley's!!
Friendliest, most fun, and best wine experience in Pismo!!!!!!!!!!!
Ash and his crew make everyone feel at home. Â With over 200+ wines available, its our go to place for a taste, glass or bottle of wine. Â There is nothing else like it in the area (which I think we can all agree has been lacking in places focused on GOOD wine).
Pair any wine you'd like with a flatbread from Full of Life (to die for) and leave with a very reasonable tab. Â
For the wine snobs out there, they carry vintages of hard to find local wines at amazing prices. Â This is the place to go.
GREAT SERVICE, GREAT WINE, BEAUTIFUL!
Wow, how beautiful this cozy tasting room is! We wandered in here last Wednesday and decided to do a tasting. I chose whites, my BF chose reds. We switched back and forth to try all. There was not a bad wine in either flight!!
They lady helping us was extremely knowledgeable and was sure to show us each bottle of wine as we tasted it. She also had others that she recommended.
We felt very comfortable in the tasting room and well-informed. Plus, I love Pinot Noir and evidentally so does the owner - Yay!! Such a selection!
Will definitely return!!
Went there the other night for the first time and had a great time. What I really like about the wine bar was that they will open any of the over 100 bottles of wine they have for sale and give you a taste. The tasting is not just limited to what they have open or are serving that night. Â The retail pricing is very good and they have a lot of hard to find wines, so I can stop by and pick up a bottle to bring home. The owner seems to be very knowledgeable about wine and is a fun host. Â My wife and I will definitely go back. Â It's a very cool place to hang. Â iI's also next to a good Italian restaurant we like to go to, so we can wait at the wine bar instead of the restaurant's crowded bar.
Review Source:This has become a regular Friday night stop for my husband and I. Â The owner's Ash & Lissa have created a tasteful, warm friendly place in our little beach town community. Â On the weekend's they usually have live music. Â Ash serves hundreds of wines by the glass at a reasonable price. Â It is a great place to try a wine, Central Coast or Napa, that you have never tried before. Â I recommend it to locals and visitors of Pismo.
Review Source:Im excited to write the first review! This location is new, I believe it opened about six weeks prior to our visit. We had so much fun here!! Its a classy establishment with a down to earth feel and great ambiance. We stopped in on our way down the coast because we had been to the Solvang location earlier that week and really liked it. Lissah was great, all of the staff is fun and personable. She gave us really nice suggestions for our coastal road trip. They had several different tasting "flights" you could take so there is something for everyone. They are open late and had really good live music. (My apologies to the musician I can't recall your name) We left to go get some dinner and were on our way into a local bar after but when we got to the door we realized they had a five dollar cover so you could listen to some crappy rap music. We looked at eachother and turned around to head back to taste of the valleys without needing to say much.
I think this place is going to do really well, I wish there was one in Orange County! I will definitely go back and visit if I am in the area and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates good wine with good people :)
